I'm going to address Violet/Cat first. I think it's well known I think Cat is an absolute piece of work and the fandom give her too much credit. I mean, don't even start me, it's been one of my biggest bug bears lately. Do not accuse fanfic writers of demonising her, she came that way.

In regards to the pairing though...it could work. Would I personally read it? Probably not, but I think if given a really good redemption arc—one better than *checks notes* finding a boyfriend—I could see it. Of course, that would all be predicated on Xaden being idk dead or something, sooooo yeah.

Bodoc...oh god the bodoc. I'm signing my own death warrant here, I swear.

I'm going to hold everyone's hand when I say this...the fandom practically created the Bodhi they adore. He has very little substance in the book. Bodhi is this fandom's Darcy Lewis. We know next to nothing about him and honestly, half of what we do know, we know from Rebecca's interviews and not the series itself.

Do I like him? Yes! But it's kind of weird to me that everyone insists we know more about him than say...Rhiannon. It's almost like he's got a cult following. He's the One Direction of this fandom and I am terrified to say it kind of kills the vibe for me. He's definitely the one you don't want to admit you're not vibing with out loud, because people will come for you...but here I am, doing it for you, anon!

I sound like a broken record but this series has such a large ensemble cast that you genuinely don't get that much background or substance...for anyone. We get his general demeanor and attitude, enough to know what he's like, but what he's thinking? What he cares about? All guesswork. He's shippable with almost everybody because he's a fun little template you can superimpose however you like.

Ridoc has more depth, in my opinon, after Onyx Storm, and everything about him is easy. To me, Ridoc is the fandom bicycle—shippable with practically everyone. There are opportunities for some really fun romance no matter who you put him with.

Which brings me to yes, I would read bodoc, though personally...I find it a little boring most of the time. I think their affinity as a ship lies in both of them feeling like they're not enough—that angst gives you some juicy bonding material, but without it...they're a bit mundane?

I enjoy it in The Underpants Heist because I think Yanny has a good thing going with grief and jealousy and all these other things that make it compelling (though I'm not up to date on it right now), but in other works it can just seem...boring? Background? Filler-esque? And I'm saying that as someone who's written it!

I think the fandom just defaults to it now as the most popular pairing for each of them, but that doesn't make it compelling. There are definitely instances where I think oof, it would have been more interesting to pair him with [character], you know? Or to make him aroace—I find aroace Bodhi very compelling!

I did proudly suggest Ridoc/Sawyer for dead on arrival, because I thought it would be fun, which is how it's meant to be!

Ultimately, no shade to those who ship it—as I said, I've written them as a side-pairing myself!—it's just not the default for me, I suppose. I enjoy it when it's fun though! 🖤

RIGHT time for another rant... So I've seen a lot of people getting upset because people who like Hamilton ship various characters so I thought I'd explain: When I say 'oh Jefferson is one of my fav characters' no one calls me a racist. If I say 'oh I like George the third' I'm not labelled a colonialist. Because Hamilton characters aren't the same as their historical counterparts. We ship the singing, dancing characters, not the probably awful people who were the reality. And so please stop saying it's wrong to headcannon characters as queer or to make them be in relationships from this show. Please. I'm not saying you have to ship them, or read fanfics, or agree with it, just leave the rest of us alone. We aren't hurting anyone and regardless, the folks are dead anyway, you think they care? Also sidenote I find it so funny that there's this discourse in the Hamilton fandom over it yet there isn't the Six fandom when I kid you not we ship everyone with everyone, the only limits are familial relationships. So I saw this post recently about a trans person shooting laserbeams out of their eyes at a bigot and in the notes there was someone saying "omg what if all genders had superpowers?" so here's my list:

Cis(male): turning random weapon shaped sticks and rocks into actual weapons. Also talk to fish.

Cis(female): the tips of their fingertips are like tasers. And telepathic stares.

Nonbinary: invisibility. Toggle on and off when social battery is charged.

Trans(masc): heat vision

Trans(fem): ice vision

Bigender: duplication (only once)

Agender: phase through solid objects.

Genderfluid: can turn into any liquid.

Demi: pulling/pushing objects around them. Almost like a magnet but for everything.

Genderqueer: mind control.

Twink or Twinkie?

Y'all know that scene in The Attack of the Killer Garage Sale in Danny Phantom where Dash is studying with Jazz, Danny comes in accidentally ruins the study session and makes his leave and when he does so Dash says "Now that the Twink(ie?) is gone..." and so on?

You probably do and I have to say, this is bothering me. Not because of the scene possibly giving us a hint that Danny is trans, not even because the scene might have something to do with anything trans. No, I don't care about that, what I care is people are hearing what Dash is saying all wrong.

Before I go on in this post, I'm gonna clear this up. I have nothing wrong with trans people or the Danny is trans theory. It's a public show and people can come up with their own head cannons, and I personally would think it be nice to have a show where the main protagonist is a trans super hero, my thing is just people mis hearing and mis defining a word, that's all.

He doesn't refer Danny as a Twink but instead he refers him as a Twinkie, which are two very different words.

Twink as most know refers to young, good looking trans/gay males.

Twinkie on the other hand is a insult that means someone is being dumb, frustrating or both.

The more you know, huh?

(Again, I have nothing against the Danny is trans theory, I just have a pet peeve with words being misidentified.)

I will DIE on the hill that you can’t copy a story concept. A lot of books have the exact same premise but the story itself is different because a different person wrote it. I’ve read about a million regency romances about a reformed rake falling in love with a wallflower and none of those authors copied they just had an idea and liked it so they wrote it. And I’ll read a million more of them I’m sure.

i do agree with this to an extent. i think people are very quick to see a basic, overused premise that they happened to write about and say it was copied from them, but the truth of the matter is that there are about a billion tropes and aus, especially in fanfiction that have been written over and over again. like, i wrote ex-convict baby daddy rafe. if i see another fic featuring the premise of rafe being a criminal and having a child, i'm not going to immediately assume it was copied because 1. rafe IS a criminal, and 2. the pregnancy trope is a common one.

i think a lot of fanfiction and books, like you said, are just bare-bones ideas that people put their own unique and personal twist on to make it different and make it stand out. now, i'm not saying outright that you can't necessarily steal an idea from someone, but i am saying that coincidences do happen !! it's not unheard of for two people to have the same ideas. i have thought of things or had plots written down from my wattpad days that i come on here and see super similar stories. obviously, they didn't copy me. we just happened to have the same thoughts.

all this to say, if you think someone is plagiarizing or copied from you, have a real, mature conversation with them to try and work out if it was copied or just a coincidence, and be open to their explanation !! be open to admitting that you may be wrong. now, you may not be wrong. there are people out there who intentionally plagiarize and steal, but i think it's important to approach the situation with at least a little benefit of the doubt unless they clearly copied you by like, copy and pasting your specific words or paraphrasing your lines.
