some of these units are about useful, practical things. a lot of these units are about common sense things. I already know to wear my seatbelt and I know that drinking and driving is illegal. you don’t need to tell me this. you don’t need an entire unit on this. I know this. what I don’t know is how much space I need to have when I’m trying to merge onto a freeway and shit. I don’t know when to slam vs pump the brakes. I don’t need to know the fuckin stats. I don’t need to know how many people die doing the thing that I already don’t do. please shut the fuck up about the stats and tell me how to pilot this fucking metal deathtrap

I've completed that unit)#I'm using this as an example of practical shit that I need to know but don't already #also yes I know the answer of 'just bc u don't do it doesn't mean other people don't need to be told'#I first heard that answer when little babyace me (who did not yet know what asexuality was)#was forced to sit through seminars #about how many fucking stds and shit there were that wanted to kill me #and sit through people metaphorically comparing me (afab) to an inanimate object #(curiously they never compared the boys to inanimate objects)#while I sat at the back of the room TRYING to zone out because I was 1. wildly fucking uncomfortable #and 2. I do not care for or have any interest in sex #and one point I straight up just raised my hand and asked #'if I don't want to have sex ever... can I just leave and do my homework? I have a lot of math homework'#I was not allowed to leave to do my homework #I was forced to keep sitting in that room #and yes. yes. I know the reason. sex ed is a necessary thing. yeah. I know. but can we PLEASE have the option to NOT be in a room full of 20 #other 13 year olds?????/ PLEASE #besides my school's sex ed wasn't even good #just the typical fearmongering promotion of 'abstinence! abstinence! abstinence!'#religion isn't allowed in schools. ~in theory~
