Year 1 — Late Autumn CHAPTER 7: WARM

Life is... dare I say, good? 

By rights, Octavia should be heading into the most treacherous winter of her life: a first-time mom in a new area with limited resources, alone with a helpless little one to protect and nurture.

And yet here she is, in a better place than she ever could have imagined this time last year. A roof over her head, a working furnace, another new set of hands to help out—they’re another mouth to feed, sure, but with the abundant harvest from the rooftop garden this year, and the new greenhouse to keep out-of-season staples growing, there’s somehow plenty to go around. Everything is coming together. 

She got this far by trusting others, even when it went against her every instinct. And it’s exhilarating. Fucking terrifying too, sure, but what isn’t these days? For the first time in a long time, there’s hope.

And somehow allllll those feelings are wrapped up—nauseatingly, intoxicatingly, inextricably, unexplainably—around just oooooone person. 😆 It was easy enough to shut down when she thought it was just attraction. She’s a mom now, and that comes with a certain set of priorities. But months later and all those same feelings are there, and they might just go a lot deeper than she’d initially assumed...

Maybe it’s time to just go for it already? 😳
