Benefits of Using Food Storage Containers
Prolong Food Freshness:
Food storage containers create an airtight seal that helps to keep food fresh for a longer time. They protect food from exposure to air, moisture, and bacteria, reducing the risk of spoilage and food wastage.
Portion Control:
Using food storage containers encourages portion control, helping you manage your diet and maintain a healthy lifestyle. They enable you to pack meals and snacks in appropriate serving sizes, reducing the temptation to overeat.
Easy Organization:
Organizing your kitchen becomes a breeze with food storage containers. They allow you to neatly store grains, cereals, and other pantry staples, making your kitchen more efficient and clutter-free.
Convenient Meal Prep:
Food containers are perfect for meal prepping. They enable you to prepare and store meals in advance, saving time during busy weekdays and promoting healthier eating habits.
Tips for Choosing Food Storage Containers
Material Matters:
Consider the material of the container and its suitability for your needs. For microwave use, opt for glass or microwave-safe plastics. For durability, go for stainless steel or glass.
Airtight Sealing:
Ensure that the containers have secure and airtight lids to maintain the freshness of your food and prevent leaks during transport.
Stackability and Nesting:
Look for containers that are stackable or can nest within one another to maximize storage space in your kitchen cabinets.

the kitchen shop is having a sale on the really good storage containers, and I keep having to talk myself out of buying like a really fancy $100 set of glass containers
like on one hand, yes that would make your pantry the most fuckable pantry on the street, but on the other hand you are poor and you need the money in your account to pay for food
#the worst thing is that all of my plastics got yeeted in the move from hell and like#I need to put food in things to store it#but#I don’t need those extremily fuckable containers#that is not something I can afford#also#christmas is the time that I’m allowed to buy jars and stuff so…maybe if I put some money away for christmas I can buy ONE (1)#fancy pants container#the sale times out today and I will finally be free from thinking about it

My #1 advice for people moving out is to NOT buy nonstick cookware... not only is the lifespan of nonstick a MAXIMUM of 7 years (usually more like 2-5 years) but teflon, aka Polytetrafluoroethylene-- the plastic coating that makes the cookware nonstick, infuses microplastics into your food.
New cookware sets can cost hundreds of dollars so my advice is to look for 100% stainless steel cookware in thrift stores. Safer, cheaper, & instead of needing to replace every 2-7 years they can potentially last you the entire rest of your life AND they won't start shedding plastic into your food
#x#PS plastic food storage containers are also not ideal... I'm going to replace all mine with glass containers when i can afford it#i bought everything nonstick thinking it would be easier to deal with. i wanted to be cost-effective & save time so buying cheap nonstick#seemed like a good idea but every single nonstick thing I bought either already needed to be tossed in the trash or the teflon is flaking#aka they have become unsafe to use. but i dont have the money to replace all my fucking kitchenware!!!!!#today the casserole dishes that i bought 2.5 years ago are going in the trash. fucking waste of money and awful for the planet#boiling water to get rid of microplastics in a flaking nonstick pot... my life is a joke LMFAOOO#i was going to put a brand suggestion for nonstick here based on what lasted the longest for anyone who absolutely NEEDS nonstick#but when i search for who owns that brand and then searched with israel in quotes... first result was them being voted brand of the year#in israel... so never mind... dude fuck all these big companies i fucking hate this shit#oh btw ceramic is a good nonstick alternative but all my ceramics lasted less than 3 years... their lifespan is about 2 years apparently#theres way too many tags on this already but for anyone who reads them all HIIII and also you can literally find better furniture#on the side of the road than you will ever find on amazon or from ikea or where the fuck ever

I agree that we use too much plastic, and I've spent my whole life trying to cut down. But you can't make me feel that bad when you're the ones manufacturing unnecessarily large plastic containers and filling them with cotton wool to pad them out, when your 120 pill option could fit into your 60 pill bottle absolutely perfectly.
Don't even talk to me about marketing or standard sizes or whatever. Change the standards. That's what the entire eco movement has been about because the standards are contributing to killing us. Don't sell me a half-empty pill bottle; sell me a pill bottle made to fit your product without excess packaging to prevent breakage from spare space you've created to give the illusion of value for money.
This isn't on the consumer-it's on manufacturers.
#seriously#until i can take my own container to the pharmacy and scoop out pills into my own reusable container for a CHEAPER price than the prepacked#seriously tho byo container options should be universal and CHEAPER! than prepacked#think of the food savings too! for people who only need a little and would otherwise have the food go bad on them before finishing#think of the saving to local councils suddenly dealing with a fraction of the waste!#single use plastics still have their place but if we make them the exception not the rule#then we dont have feel guilty about banning plastics that make the world accessible to millions!#fuck capitalism#ive woken up grumpy and righteous#i think i might... have to look into these crypto jobs fuck.#eco#plastic waste#text tag#milkaid#ugh i hope thise tags are clear above. i mean yes we need to keep si gle use plastics for medicine and accessibility#plastics can be good! lets just reduce them where we can while not screwing over people who cant live without them ya dig?

I kind of want to try making mead or ambrosia 👀
Obviously not right now because I have Shit To Do; but maybe during the summer after I’ve moved
#alcohol mention#Apparently you can make mead out of honey and I love honey so of course I have to try it#I want to make more food from scratch so I can reduce my plastic consumption#because my ten-year goal is to convert to a completely anticapitalist zero-waste lifestyle#Just for me… I don’t put pressure on anyone to do the same unless they’re well-off and being ridiculous about their consumption#Except for maybe encouraging people to switch to reusable water bottles if they’re in an area where the tap water is potable#(like where I live)#or flaunting my canvas shopping bag that I got for 5 dollars at a hardware store whenever possible#Okay I guess I do push people a little bit#But it’s all reasonable things directed at people I know are physically mentally and financially able to do those things#or I’ll just casually mention microplastics and pollution in conversation as a “fun fact”#But I’m not ridiculous about it with anyone but myself#I hold myself to some weird standards that I don’t hold others to and I’m fine with it#Obviously it’s the corporations’ faults that everything is the way it is and no single person can make a huge difference#But if everyone does one thing to help the planet; then it might buy us some time to change the system#There is also the issue of supply and demand; if more people reduce plastic intake then less plastic will be produced#But again: it’s very hard to be ethical in this society. EVERYTHING enjoyable is packaged in plastic and it sucks#(ok not literally everything but consider: most candy is wrapped in plastic and clothes have plastic tags and chips are in plastic#sushi is in plastic containers and meat is in shrink wrap or styrofoam and most modern chewing gum is a byproduct of vinyl#toys are packaged in plastic etc. etc.)

Return of the Sol badguy noodles anon, and I actually never threw the container away though I was planning to until my friend asked to keep it for some reason. He said he’s put it in the dishwasher 5 TIMES and the stench still hasn’t gone away and it is in fact worse. So now he is using the container as a weapon and now I forever live in fear with being blasted with the badguy stench.
You're killin me man lmfao Why do you still have this thing!!!
What's white vinegar do to it
#asks#PLEASE don't put food in that container again. The plastic's clearly doing something funky. There's no way it's still food safe

I finally bought a real trash can for my kitchen after 5 years of living on my own and I finally feel closer to being a Real Adult
#you may wonder what i did before this#the answer is mildly horrifying#i simply hung a plastic grocery bag on the corner of my open pantry shelf#sadly if i actually lived alone i probably wouldve continued that horror show#but my younger brother lives with me and was losing his mind slowly using my shitty trash bag situation#so today i bought a real trash can a bags and even got us a better trash can for the bathroom#bc i CAN technically afford that so i should stop living like im 20 and totally broke#having a real trash can is already noticabky better like going through and cleaning shit is easier#just having a can open and ready to recieve my trash is amazing#i am slowly transitioning out of my makeshift ways of doing things now#next i need to buy a normal plastic tub to keep the cat food in#preferably a clear one so i can tell easily when its low#right now its in an old tidy cats litter container i cleaned out.....#so#that needs to change lol#personal#i am finally accepting that i will benefit significantly mentally by improving my home situation#so its okay to spend a little money to replace shit#i had a REALLY hard time with that for a while#tidying up 2023
