Have you just purchased a beautiful new orchid plant? Does it have one of those cards sticking out of it that cheerfully insists you can water it with an ice cube?
Here's what you should do. Throw that card away. Every week or so, depending upon how dry your climate/house is, water that orchid until the water comes out the bottom. If your pot doesn't drain, check and see if the plant itself is in a separate pot liner and pull that out so it can drain. If neither of those things are happening, put it in a different pot with some drainage, or stick your finger in the soil every week and make sure it isn't soggy or dry. You want slightly damp, not bog. If you DO have a secondary pot inside the outer one, you can pull it out and soak the shit out of it for a few minutes (like, 3-5, probably not more), let it drain, then pop it back in the other pot. (And when I say "soak", I mean you can fill up your sink, or a container the pot can sit in and let it sit in water that covers the roots and soil.)
You don't have to do all that- even just dumping some tap water into the pot when you remember is better than the stupid ice cube thing.
Orchids are tropical. You know how many ice cubes fall out of the sky in tropical climates usually? Approximately none. Ice cubes are (wait for it) cold, which isn't great for the roots of your orchid, and a single ice cube isn't enough water to slake their unholy thirst. Please don't water your poor orchids with ice cubes. I promise they'll bloom longer and die less if you don't.*

It's a tough call on which window I love the most; my kitchen sink, or my desk.
