stone ocean has a few really big issues with pacing, the group dynamic often feeling pretty weak bc of how long people get shelved for, and the expected issues with araki's misogyny and racism but i do think it doesn't have the fundamental flaws that jojolion and vento aureo do where they just completely undermine themselves with their endings so like i do think it's probably like. the second strongest part after sbr. it does have some really big low points (like my least favourite fights take place in SO: dragon's dream and yo yo ma in the manga, planet waves and yo yo ma in the anime) but i do think it has a consistency most parts don't. mostly because of the strength of the protagonist and antagonist. like, pucci is a great villain in general, but i think having him be so present in the story almost the entire way through did so much for keeping up the tension and making the danger feel real in a way you don't get at all with VA or JJL.

#dragons dream is funny to me bc i HATED it so much in the manga that i took a break bc of it #but i think it's one of the few places the anime actually improved the story #like i found it very cute in the anime. i don't think it's a “great” fight but giving it a voice did so much for making it entertaining #planet waves however was much worse. agonising anime fight. should not have been two episodes long #i think the anime was also improved by cutting out some of the “jerk weather report” stuff like the electrocution scene #i think that moments stupid and ooc to the point where it goes beyond being just a silly jojo moment and actually harms his characterisatio #bc while he doesn't care about bystanders or their safety his malice is entirely directed towards pucci after that #it's just a weird women getting hurt joke for no reason. bad.#stone ocean
