#with other characters i tend to default to things like “sweetheart” and “darling” and “dear”#plainly because well... not only are they cute they're also period-appropriate for fantasy stuff#but i just... get into this boy's headspace#and all I can hear is “babe” spoken teasingly early on#to get a rise out of her#and “baby” sincerely much later#it's still mostly teasing but in a tender and sweet way#and i can hear her scoff sarcastically and say something about how him seeing her as an infant would be a wrinkle in their relationship#but inside she's like “fuck. holy fuck. fuck. shit. why do i like that. i don't. do I?
