hiii! i was admiring your beautiful collection of mice and thought i might ask if you've ever heard of a wallet mouse? they're sometimes also called a purse or pocket mouse. they're extremely small metal figurines of mice (often made out of brass) that people carry on their person alongside their money as a charm to attract wealth and good fortune!

while prevalent in chinese culture, the wallet mouse concept is also found in other asian countries and even in some eastern european traditions. it's difficult to track down their exact origin, but it's said to come from the belief in several ancient cultures that mice symbolize abundance and prosperity, particularly when associated with the act of gathering and hoarding food combined with their prolific breeding habits, which are metaphorically linked to not just accumulating but saving money and the prosperity and happiness of family.

they have also been associated with an obscure 13th century legend in which a simple mouse saved a nobleman from death, awakening him when a snake was approaching. therefore they are not just associated with good luck, but with protection as well.

it's said when you place your mouse in your wallet or purse, you're supposed to recite a small spell that goes something like: "little mouse little mouse, please settle down here!"

it is also believed that if you put the mouse in the same compartment as your coins, then only a trifle will be found. the same rule works with an empty compartment; If there is no money with the mouse, then the mouse will be unhappy and not work. the more bills, the more comfortable and happy your mouse will be! following this logic, i have two wallet mice together so they're not lonely. 🐁🐀 :,)

this was just an old, cute little superstition i thought i'd share with you based on our mutual love of mouse figurines. i thought maybe it might be something you'd enjoy if you're not already aware of them.

I have seen these! Though i haven’t acquired one yet. I do have a mouse/rat piggy bank and for years now i’ve kept a small piece of citrine in the coin pouch of my wallet for similar reasons! The mousy bank is nice bc i enjoy finding coins on the ground, it kind of reminds me of finding coins in video games lol. Once when i was young i found a twenty dollar bill! I asked the park’s staff if anyone had reported it missing, and they said no and that i could keep it. I even sometimes dream about finding coins lol
