Department Store Escalators

This is the flagship store of Pizitz, a department store chain in Alabama. At its peak, Pizitz operated 12 other chains, mostly in the Birmingham area with some stores in Huntsville and other Alabama cities. It was founded as the Louis Pizitz Dry Goods Co. in 1899 on this site downtown. The company was sold to McRae's in 1986.

Aha moment meaning

I do this by guiding my students’ learning journeys and allowing them to be active learners. Do not misunderstand: the role of teacher as guide is not a diminished one! I still direct, support, nurture and celebrate my students’ learning. Huntsville City Council met on Monday, March 16th and unanimously voted for a state of emergency, The State of Alabama has issued a “Stay at Home” Public Health Order requiring individuals to remain in place at home with exceptions for essential work and certain activities such as buying groceries, going for a run, walking the dog, picking up medicine, visiting a doctor and traveling to and from work (if designated as an essential business or operation). 6 feet of social distance is necessary for all activities.

The order is in effect from 5 p.m. April 4 through 5 p.m. April 30, or extended to further contain the spread of COVID-19 in Huntsville and Madison County.

The 20,000-square-foot space on Second Ave. North is on the ground floor of the former Pizitz department store building, which has undergone a $70 million restoration that also includes apartments, office space and, eventually, two independent movie theaters. CreativeMornings, global creative organization, launches Birmingham Chapter

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – January 15, 2019 – CreativeMornings™, a global breakfast lecture series for the creative community, is pleased to announce the launch of its Birmingham chapter. The first event will take place Friday, January 25, 2019, from 8:30-10:30 a.m. at Forge coworking space in The Pizitz. Tickets are free, but must be reserved in advance. Attendees will have the opportunity to network and hear from a local guest speaker in a TEDx-style talk.

“Birmingham is the perfect addition to the CreativeMornings global community,” said Julie Schneider, community manager for CreativeMornings HQ. “With its long-standing impact in the publishing and creative industries, robust and evolving food scene, and rising status as a technology and entrepreneurship hub, the city of Birmingham is already bringing to life the CreativeMornings manifesto: to bring passionate and purposeful people together to inspire change around the world.”

CreativeMornings Birmingham will meet on the fourth Friday of every month, rotating through various venues throughout the city. Local businesses and restaurateurs sponsoring the event will provide complimentary coffee and breakfast while attendees mix and mingle. The chapter will select local speakers, based on a global theme, for a short talk with Q&A.

Birmingham chapter organizer, Madison Hall, said, “Our goal is for CreativeMornings Birmingham to become a platform for creatives from all industries to build relationships that better serve our community and give our city the global recognition it deserves.”

Tickets are available through the CreativeMornings website starting Friday, January 18, 2019 at 8:30 a.m. This month’s guest speaker will be Billy Ivey, award-winning copywriter and brand strategist, and founder of #napkinisms.

In 2008, Tina Roth Eisenberg started CreativeMornings out of a desire for an ongoing, accessible event for New York’s creative community. The concept was simple: breakfast and a short talk one Friday morning a month. Every event would be free of charge and open to anyone. Today, thanks to volunteer hosts and organizers, and the generosity of both local and global partners, attendees gather in 196 cities around the world.
