Okay, so the gas goes in the car and explodes which make the car go voom. To make it do that, the gas is pushed into the cylinder of a piston by an injector. The sparkplug makes a spark and the gas goes boom which expands the gas and makes the piston extend. If you line up your pistons so they extend in order at the right time it spins the crankshaft which is how we get forward motion.(with a few extra steps)
As you would imagine, you want the thing igniting your fuel not to go anywhere when you blow things up. So the sparkplug is threaded into the engine block like a bolt. Mine blasted out anyway.
Imagine if you stomped on a waterbottle so hard the threads just came off with the cap. That's what happened to my sparkplug. I don't know that was a thing.
My truck only has 4 cylinders so with one of them not working it doesn't actually work. So I basically glued the sparkplug back in. The wire that supplies the spark was also bad so that got replaced but I halfassed that because the part for my truck is like 180$ and the part that fits my husband's truck that almost fits mine was free. (I did not cannibalize his truck for parts, but I did think about it, this was a spare)
But the wire almost fits. It doesn't actually fit. So I have a beer can folded up between the engine block and the hood pinning the wire in place. The can is light and cheap but won't catch on fire if it gets too hot and is still springy enough to absorb vibration.
So the sparkplug of my truck blew itself out of the block. What is the most redneck fix you could possibly imagine? I'll give you a hint: it involves a beer can holding the wire boot on.
I also recognize that this is tumblr and there is a large demographic that doesn't know how to drive, let alone what a spark plug is.
