Why did the cops shut down the ball 😨 thats bullshit, im sorry :( how long have you been doing ball stuff?

so no one i talked to seems to have actually known why. some folks were told the establishment's license was dubious (the ball was held at an event space that was a tiny bit sketch but for the most part it was a perfectly fine establishment) and others were told there was a noise complaint (which was super unlikely bc the event space was out in the middle of nowhere in northeast philly).

my friend was talking to me on our way out about how this kind of thing happens without reason all the time, and especially since it's a vogue ball aka a place with lots of queer & trans poc, this kind of thing isn't particularly shocking but it is definitely disparaging and just another example of an oppressive police force in black spaces. this isn't the first ball ive been to thats been shut down like this, but it was pretty eye-opening to consider my perspective as a white guy in a historically black space and how it compares to others’.

anyway i've been doing ballroom for about 7 months, though i started taking vogue classes about a year ago. i joined my house in july, walked my first ball last october (also shut down), and this recent one was my second time walking although i didn't get to battle. having lots of fun developing a new skill, and of course i've encountered plenty of new perspectives on gender, sexuality, race, performance, the arts in general. living learning growing loving.

at the beginning of the pandemic i lived with 4 other people and a cat named cheeks. 2 of my roommates bought a gamecube w animal crossing and resident evil 4 on it and we would buy prescription vyvanse from this hot frat guy named pat. we went on these "vyvanse heists" roughly once a week and wld come home take the vyvanse and stay up all night. one roommate would take it and do work for her classes but the other one wld split a dose with me (we wld pour the contents of a pill into a cup of water and mix it and take turns sipping and we called it vyvanse water) and we would stay up all night switching between video games. at this time i was also really into playing wizard 101 with my friend tim. so for much of april 2020 i was taking my online classes and also staying up all night to play wizard 101 and resident evil 4 while taking recreational prescription drugs. genuinely one of the happiest months of my life

ok guys not to be a nerd on main but i just created my first ever like... really good ocs and i’m so happy to have them. like i have no idea what i’m gonna use em in but i really love and cherish them. they have like. a little world that they live in and a little mini-plot going on in my head. it’s very cute and good. anyway. i mite talk about them some other time
