Instead of the “Jason vs Percy” rivalry we should have gotten Annabeth vs. Jason but instead of a fight for power it’s them having a battle of autism cause their special interests were Greek myths vs Roman myths.
Jason calls a Greek god by their Roman name and Annabeth pops up out of nowhere and goes “erm, actually”
The 7 is talking about some landmark and Annabeth and Jason start arguing about which pantheon it was dedicated to.
“It’s amazing right? It was dedicated to Athena.” “Erm, it was actually built for Mars…”

I have funny but first a quick history lesson
In Ancient Athens they had things called ostracons. Basically every year everyone would carve a name of someone they didn't like into a small stone tablet and then submit it. Then they would look at all of the ostracons and if there were too many of one person then they told that person to get tf out. They had ten days to flee Athens and couldn't come back for ten years.
So now I would like you to imagine Dionysus doing a pseudo version of this at Camp Half-blood every month because we all know he LIVES for the drama. (He's stuck there for a hundred years he might as well have some fun)
He would hand out stone tablets (it was very important to him that the names were carved don't ask why) and every person at camp would write a name.
Whoever had their name written down the most would be sent to live in a cabin in the woods for two weeks. If they survived they would be allowed to return to camp.
Mr. D always makes sure there's a crowd around to witness their walk of shame and he takes a picture of said person every month. He keeps them hung up on a wall in the big house.

netflix posting a compilation of kaos tumblr posts featuring THIS SPECIFIC ONE is my last straw
Tumblr media
that literally also describes dead boy detectives.
like kaos does look really great i fucking love mythology and i will probably watch it eventually!! this is annoyance at netflix not kaos as a show, it's just pissing me off a bit that they're giving this show SO much more attention and promotion than dead boy detectives got when they seem to have somewhat similar themes and target audiences

*everyone watching the swimming portion of the olympics, in percy and annabeth’s apartment*
leo: wow they’re going SO fast! and they look so elegant! can you do that percy?
percy, nodding: mm hm
leo, critically: really? i mean… they look like they’re just gliding through the water. you can really do that? are you sure?
percy: uh, yeah man. i can.
annabeth: leo, he can swim at like 4000 miles per hour. he can manipulate water to do whatever he wants. and incredible swimming comes naturally to him, just like building does to you.
leo: i know i know. but… they’re just swimming so gracefully. i mean, speed aside, do you really have that posture?
percy, slightly annoyed: if i wanted to, yeah dude
leo: okay but-
piper: leo is this another one of your attempts to get percy to wear his speedo?

someone needs to steal octavian from rick riordan and give him some nice old character development but they ALSO need to make him not look like a complete angel and an innocent sweet baby boy that can do no wrong

frank and piper are interesting counterpoint narratives to me. both of them have relatively mundane problems compared to the rest of the cast yet their parent's domains represent the heights of human passion as defined by the series, despite piper and frank both being (outwardly) dispassionate and (inwardly) mopey. the good end of these domains is love and protection (selfless), the bad end is heartbreak and bloodlust (selfish), which both of them try to resist. they both get claimed last out of their trios and had beforehand assumed that they were the children of someone else. both also experience perceived rejection from their mortal family directly before the series begins - both express anger and hurt at being "sent away". their rejection and unexpected claiming, back-to-back, results in discombobulation for them both, and feelings of humiliation brought on by both sets of parents.
they also both go through forced physical transformations by their parents to fit an ideal they don't want. all of the characters experience issues of identity and self-esteem but i think its the most pronounced with these two in the series. neither of them really knows who they are, and are pessimistic about their own capabilities. they are also counterpoints in that they feel disconnected from their own looks - both are very self-conscious people, but, based on how they're described by other characters, piper is probably the most beautiful member of the 7 and frank is probably the least. piper is frequently harassed and objectified, whereas frank is teased constantly about his looks. he neither feels as childish as his face is nor as grown as his body is, and he doesn't understand how to move through the world. both of which are common experiences throughout puberty - suddenly being treated differently on the basis of a body that's changing faster than you want or understand.
(discourse alert) i don't have a lot to add to the piper transformation discourse except that i do think its interesting that her blessing was temporary within the book and her love interest actually self-reflected on his reaction to it and realized that he should not have told her that she looked hot in that instance. rick did reverse frank's transformation five years later and i'm curious about his thought process about both writing it in the first place and in reversing it, and what feedback he received, if any. piper's transformation was a makeover whereas frank's was a puberty, which later rick walked back with "actually frank is still going through puberty". piper's was cheesy, sure, but frank's falls so flat bc that's just not how it works. its too much of a stretch. i don't even think it was in rick's og plan for frank, maybe he just watched captain america and was like "hell yeah i should do that" and flipped a coin between frank and leo, bc again frank was already initially described as physically grown in his debut book. and i can't even talk about hazel's reaction to to it bc its not real to me and i can't read suddenly. idk frank's plotline in general was too rushed in that book and he should have gotten another pov chapter set at least bc rick was trying to do too much too fast and relied on idiocy like the transformation to support it in the place of real character work when it wasn't even necessary for anything he accomplished in the book. he could've just walked around with better posture and achieved the same effect.

when i seriously engaged w dw i was a big ol rose girl (and so love her very deeply even still) but your recent answer so neatly crystallized here why martha/s3 was some of the (modern) show’s best AND worst writing. the fans were def unkind and racist bc she was Not Rose ™ and Black, but the show (and occasionally the doctor himself) literally also did the same thing. in better hands, the tenmartha emotional arc could have been an incredibly powerful exploration of the doctor’s capability for ‘human’ manipulation because of his more or less constant rolling thru a rotating cast of (usually young) beautiful creatures who often, at least somewhat, worship his alien inhumanity and he’ll outlive - made all the more powerful by martha recognizing it and Getting The Fuck Out tbh. like make no mistake i love the doctor but he can be so terrible about keeping companions at arms length while also clinging and never letting go of them
literally exactly precisely thissssss; the doctor is not (and never was) all good; he has messy deeply contradictory flaws that show up in both his broader sense of morality/what he considers right and wrong/what risks he chooses to take/what he's willing to sacrifice or put in harm's way in order to to have what he believes to be the moral high ground AND the way he interacts one on one with people ESPECIALLY his companions. i think so much of the tenmartha dynamic is genuinely really fascinating (and drives me mildly crazy) but so often when the doctor is manipulating martha, the narrative punishes her in a way that i think is neither due nor deserved. i say this not because i think that the doctor's "bad" behavior needs to be punished narratively in some sort of puritanical way—characters should be complicated and have issues that are interesting to look at in analysis—but martha as the person receiving all of that shit shouldn't have had to endure it for a full season seemingly without end. the fact that she got out really feels so important to me because very few other companions get that type of ending and the will-they-won't-they of it ends in a way that feels very decisive; martha traveled with the doctor and loved him deeply and realized she can and would be fine without him and when he wanted to cling on tighter she prioritized herself and left him. it's a choice that very few people who know the doctor on that level, having seen the very best and very worse of who he is and what he's capable of, get to make and i think that it's extremely significant that it's martha who's allowed to make that decision.
