I managed to get the clapper and the actual bell off, but couldn't twist the metal attachment piece hard enough to break it away from the toy. I tried for several minutes, during which Keeley sat on the corner of her cage watching me. When I failed, I said, "Well, I fucked up."

She looked at me and said, in a very concerned tone, "Oh no!"

Agnieszka is gone. I drove 12 hours to pick her up in deepest New Jersey when she was 3 months old, and she's been my constant companion ever since. I make her breakfast before I make mine, and I look forward to hearing her quiet little "good morning" beeps every day. But now she's just a warm, limp little body that I drove to the vet to hold for the last time after she had a seizure and decided it was time to go.
