believe it or not, I used to own a copy of the Game Boy Advance game hue

(technically, Naoto Ohshima created this little guy, so it's no surprise his own little vibes!)

Just realized there are two versions of this Pinobee render (Left shared by Naoto Ohshima on Twitter, right a promotional wallpaper)

The most notable differences are the fairy being removed and weirdly Grandpa Bee changing eye colors. Perhaps the render Ohshima shared was an earlier version, since Grandpa Bee has purple eyes in the final game.

“Grandpa Bee has kidnapped before finishing you, Pinobee - a robotic bee made to defend the world. The player must go through 9 worlds in order to find and rescue your creator. There are multiple storylines with multiple endings. Pinobee can take out most enemies by jumping on top of then, but the most important means of attack is a dash, which can be executed in any direction (also diagonal). The amount of consecutive dashes can be upgraded when meeting a certain character. Pinobee collects flower and question mark bubbles provide power-ups, enhancing the dashes, providing temporary shields or other bonuses. Players can use the Game Link to collect and trade items with friends for power-ups.” ~MobyGames

You hate Sonic CD, you hate Blinx, you hate Pinobee... Do you just think Naoto Oshima should just quit trying to make games forever?

Hate is a very strong word.

Hate is for games I will only play if I am forced to. For example, my copy of Sonic 2006 went untouched for more than five years, and then I had to play it for the charity marathon I did.

Sonic CD on the other hand…

There are things about it I don’t like, but I want to like it. I think it has some legitimately cool ideas. It’s just clumsy and tedious. I definitely do not hate Sonic CD.

I did not play enough of Pinobee to hate it, and that’s because, more than hating on it, I just thought it was ugly and dumb. It was like Rocket Knight Adventures, if Rocket Knight Adventures was ugly and dumb. But it never really had a chance to get under my skin deep enough to classify those emotions as “hate.” It was plain old fashioned repulsion.

I have never played Blinx the Time Sweeper, but I did watch my friend Drak play it and was actually pleasantly surprised. In screenshots it looked incredibly ugly, and it’s always thrown out in the same context people reference games like Bubsy and Gex, so it’s easy to assume that Blinx is probably an abysmal trainwreck, but…

I don’t want to say the game is “great”, but it at least seemed to be interesting. It was better than I expected. Which definitely counts for something. I have even entertained the idea of buying and playing Blinx for myself one day now, but I’d need an original Xbox for that, as the 360 backwards compatibility seems quite poor.

I don’t think Naoto Ohshima should stop doing anything. I think that man deserves to do whatever makes him happy. I can’t imagine what goes on at Artoon/Arzest, what kind of people he has working under him, etc. 

Could some of the games his company has put out been better? Like, a lot better? Sure. But very little of it is probably worth hating.

Whenever a whole new game with whole new characters is released, said new Character arrives to the house bearing their Creator's name/s. There they are greeted by the older Creations as a New Arrival with open arms.

it's a bit too crusty and janky for my tastes but i do, legitimately, find some of the concepts interesting. the fact that this old ass game has multiple endings based on what you do AND how you treat other characters is honestly pretty impressive
