Yeah yeah yeah ribbon seal mood boardddd. I haven't seen a lot of seal things, let alone ribbon seals, so here you go. Ribbon seals primarily live in the Bering sea (between Russia and Alaska). Males tend to be dark with white stripes, where as females tend to be silver or light brown with white stripes.
I want to do more silly species and less recognised ones for all my therian friends who have a hard time finding content for themselves. What animals would you like to see me make a moodboard of?

Some pride art of my theriotypes but anthro (sorta). Not necessarily supposed to be furry versions of myself, more so just how it feels sometimes when I have phantom shifts
Please do not RB with "me", "ID" or similar. It makes me uncomfortable as these are self portraits!

last year I was swimming around in a little cove in Devon somewhere, and this female grey seal came up to me and we swam together, maybe two or three metres away from one another. I turned blue from the cold because I couldn't leave. I've never felt so alive and special, and I think about her almost every day.

HI GUYS I MADE A PICREW!!!!!!!!!!!!
WOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you make something, please share! I'd love to see it!!!! Preferably via a reblog, but you can also send it in an ask or make your own post and tag me (Just know that i won't be reblogging or replying to those, sorry)
This was a huge project that took a lot of time and energy, and there's still so much stuff i want to add and change and perfect. I'm posting it now though, because otherwise i will never call it done. But! Expect future updates at some point!! (Not soon tho) And if i add something, i will absolutely post it here 👍
The picrew is also not beta tested! I tried my best to check for everything, but im sure there's still plenty of mistakes i missed. If you see any, please do let me know!
Enjoy :D

As per the poll (that's not technically finished yet but oh well) leopard seals won! I personally am very discomforted by leopard seals, their mouths are just so strange.
Fun facts:
Leopard seals are the only seals that eat warm blooded prey, including other seals (justifying my leopard seal fear). They are also relatively aggressive compared to other seal species.
They can reach up to 3.5 meters/11.5 feet long, making them the same size as an average walrus.
Not previously mentioned in my other moodboard posts but none of the images are mine, they're all from Pinterest. Feel free to use any of my moodboards, as long as you don't claim you made them.

Hello! My name's Finch, and I'm a therian who's questioning a harbor seal! You're one of the first seal therians I've seen, so I was wondering if I could ask a you a question or two to help me figure out if a seal is my theriotype :]
If it's okay, here are my questions:
How did you future out you we're a seal?
Do you have any tips/experiences/etc. that could maybe help me out?
Thanks in advance! :))
Hey there, Finch!
So, ever since I was a child I've had very strong phantom shifts, mental ones too but I definitely experienced the former much more frequently. And as I grew up and learned about all these different species of animals, it gave me a feeling of like.. seeing my reflection for the first time. I could connect the feelings which I've always felt to something tangible. My wolf self was the easiest for me to discover given that they're the easiest for me to relate to as a human.
Mostly I have seal shifts when I'm laying or sometimes sitting down or when I'm swimming. So that was very helpful in aiding with my discovery. I knew I was some sort of aquatic animal but just didn't know what exactly. And then eventually I learned about harp seals and it just clicked.
I think the best advice I can really give you is to remember that there is never any rush into labeling yourself. Do your best to not stress over the details and just let yourself do what feels natural to you.
I hope that helps!

LOVE posts like these lets go!!!!
I'm a therian, polytherian actually!
My theriotypes are a dhole, a white fairy tern, and a harbor seal! I am questioning a domestic dog theriotype as well as I have some additional canine traits that don't fit with the dhole.
I do experience shifts! I have permanent phantom ears and tail, and I have wing shifts pretty often. I have paw shifts nearly every day, just because I walk on my toes (I have no cartilage between the bones in my heels :,) )
My alterhumanity affects my daily life in a lot of ways. One of the biggest ones is just how I interact with people and the world. I'm most connected to my dhole theriotype, and those behaviors show a LOT in my day-to-day life. I set aside time every day just to go out into the field near my house with my dog to romp around and do doggy things :)
I think the community (on tumblr since its the only one I actually interact with) is awesome! everyone here is super nice and friendly and accepting!!! love y'all <3
Probably these tails I got a few months ago. I originally got them because I'm a big taxidermy fan, but it turns out its mega species euphoria with my phantom tail. Also just getting to swim in any capacity.
I experience a lot of species dysphoria, but I've learned to deal with it. I set side time aside every day just to do silly animal things and that really helps!
For people, especially teens who have just awakened, I would say don't get too sucked into all the trends and stuff with TikTok and everything. TikTok therians aren't bad, but until you're comfortable in your identity I would take the time to do some soul-searching to really give yourself a chance to figure yourself out before getting online. And if you end up being wrong about your identity, that's okay!
I'd love some ears at some point. But that's pretty much it. :)
Probably trauma tbh. That and just my funky brain wiring. There's a lot going on up there. It's WILD what your brain can do
Tagging my moots :D @styxthecaracal @k9kuiper @jamiesolas @deerfox-of-the-woods y'all are great and I appreciate you!!!!!
If you are a alterhuman, reblog and answer these questions!
(don't be afraid to write a lot, do what you want ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
1/ Which category of alterhumanity do you belong to?
2/ What/who is/are your type(s)? (if you have any)
3/ Do you experience shifts? If so, can you tell us your most common shifts and your strangest cameo shift (if you've ever had a cameo shift)?
4/ How do you experience your alterhumanity in everyday life?
5/ What do you think of the community?
6/ What are the things that make you most comfortable and euphoric in your alterhumanity?
7/ Are you experiencing species dysphoria?
8/ What advice would you like to say to a young alterhuman who has just awakened?
9/ Do you have/want to have gears?
10/ Do you know/have any theories about the origin of your alterhumanity? If so, tell us! (all beliefs are legitimate)
11/ Tag someone/a creature to answer these questions!ㅤᵕ̈

From the leviathans of vast stature to the ones feeble and numb; all succumb before the hunger of diving vultures. Piercing the skies of gelid seas are those who hail from ice. Woolly seals wear a title of deceit, for their kin stray far from the graceful mammals of our oceans. These hellish creatures revel in their carnage, with dozens of clawed tendrils reaching from their gnarled maws begging to cleave flesh. Although small and nimble, you are a fool to judge the capabilities of these predators. All who cross paths with a murder are mercilessly torn asunder from muscle to bone. Boasting a powerful muscular structure, woolly seals find ease in wrestling the strongest of leviathans into submission. These persistent animals are reliant on their numbers, overwhelming prey with the sheer volume of the murder whipping lacerations into their flesh. Fending off a murder is a futile pursuit, for a leviathan will quickly exhaust itself as it thrashes about to no avail. Fleeing yields no promise either, as woolly seals will leech onto their prey via puncturing the body with their prickly pectoral flippers; ensuring that the animal is secured tightly to its victim. Deceased leviathans are left to wither away in a crimson sea painted by their canvas. Woolly seals garnered their name from extraterrestrial human researchers, who upon first discovering the species noted how vaguely reminiscent of earthly pinnipeds they were—only, these creatures donned a thick hydrodynamic coat likened to wool. While their pelage serves to maintain a streamlined form when diving, it is also vital to maintaining body heat against the unforgiving cold. Because the frame of a woolly seal is so muscular, they lack insulating blubber found in most marine mammals. To compensate, their coats double as a highly effective insulator. Unlike true pinnipeds, the hind flippers of a woolly seal fuse to form a more tail fluke-like shape. This enhances the animals swim speed, while also reducing land mobility. As a result, woolly seals are remarkably vulnerable when lounging on sea ice. As such, woolly seals prefer to remain close to water.

And that's a thousand followers, guys!
Tumblr media
So to celebrate here's a five-in-one oneshot art compilation (fiveshot?):
Tumblr media
'The small subcontinent of North Westerna, off the coast of Arcuterra, is in many ways a glimpse of the past. The last hammoths, stunted survivors of the Glaciocene, have begun their return to glory, with some species shrinking to miniscule scales, but others growing bigger, coming to approach the sizes their forebearers once were. But with bigger herbivores thriving in abundance, bigger carnivores follow suit--like the pterowrex, a macropredator descended from the pterowrist that can reach up to 700 kilograms in the largest and heaviest females. Like their predecessor, the pterowrex is a heavily dimorphic species, with flighted males having specialized into stork-like ground-hunters while far bigger, flightless females being megafauna hunters and the Temperocene hammoths' primary predator. Fortunately for this particular hammoth herd, however, this large female pterowrex is sated and not hungry, and is content to let them pass and watch from a distance, with scarcely any hostility, at least for the time being.'
-------
Tumblr media
'The abundant valleys and grasslands of the northwest peninsula of Arcuterra echo with deep, reverberating calls, as herds of elephinos--largest of the extant piggalo-- court and compete for mates during the rainy season when food is abundant. Male elephinos are distinctive with their pale bluish cheek patches, which turn more vibrant the healthier they are, and with their blunt, keratinous nasal bosses used for inflicting blunt-force impacts onto rivals. Their stubby, straight tusks, predominantly used for digging up and uprooting vegetation, are far too short, delicate and valuable to be utilized in combat, and at eight tons in the biggest males, fighting is energetically expensive for such large animals: thus favoring males with displays that can assert their dominance without costly, and risky, fighting.'
------------
Tumblr media
'Deep in the dark caves of the Sub-Arcuterran Cavern System, a small daggoth scurries among the fungi, mocklichens, meatmoss and microbial mats as it carries a remarkable cargo: a collection of tiny, underdeveloped offspring attached to the smooth, bare skin of its underbelly by sticky oral secretions. These, much like the newborns of marsupials, latch on to their mother's mammary patches and feed off on milk secreted out by the skin by many scattered glands as opposed to a more typical teat. Unlike a marsupial, however, they only remain attached for a few days, after which they drop off and are able to live independently from there on, burrowing into clumps of meatmoss or being deposited there, until they are sufficiently developed enough to begin foraging for small prey on their own.'
---------
Tumblr media
'Next of kin to the fully-aquatic cricetaceans, the jousting bayvers are an unusual clade of tusked marine pondrats with a very complicated history and a fickle relationship with the sea: having evolved to be fully-aquatic like the cricetaceans several times, but also have returned to a semi-aquatic life, with the help of strong shoulders and flexible wrists, at least twice in their evolutionary tree to a lifestyle more comparable to basal bayvers filling pinniped-like niches. The most widespread of these is the narwalrus--a fairly large species that can reach a weight of almost two tons, and is equipped with a single forward-pointing tusk derived from misaligned asymmetrical upper incisors that find use in probing for food on the sea floor, prying open bivalve shells, and being used for defense or territorial conflict. An abundance of marine predators such as phorcas may have played a role in their re-evolution of terrestrial mobility, able to clumsily but successfully flop their way ashore to escape the reach of their water-bound enemies.'
--------
Tumblr media
'Beta's crimson rays shine through the convoluted, tangled horns of a clusterbuck: one of the largest of the stagotaurs that now flourish as Arcuterra's predominant megafaunal browsers. Heavy and slow unlike most typical podotheres, clusterbucks have in many ways returned to the form of their Glaciocene ancestors the drundles: save for the elaborate growths on their heads equipped with bony cores but further expanded by branching keratinous sheaths. These structures are far too fragile to be used as weapons, and indeed their size and forelimb claws are sufficient enough to deter attackers. Yet their horns persist as a sign of fitness, and as a key to their reproductive success that makes them far more attractive to females: even if they prove cumbersome and unwieldy to their owners in the long run and end up trading off longevity for fecundity.'
