Yesterday was a really fun night, got invited to a lgbtq pinkdot party. Met alot of people there, felt super welcome. People are very warm. We were chatting and drinking. Thats the 3rd time i went out fully dressed as myself. But the 1st time dressing up from home and went out. Usually i will dress up in my car but last night i did it. I was super nervous. But i really had a great time.

but yeah though i am proud of the progress made it’s still infuriating how much it took and how slow it comes? idk i don’t want to take anything for granted ofc but ye lol all our progress is basically (most of the time) no thanks to the govt

and tbh my read of why they repealed 377A is uh. probably more cynical than urs lol ��😭 i feel like the govt only saved the announcement for the NDR speech so that it makes them look benevolent; like they learned on their own. if they announced it closer to pinkdot day or following one of the many court challenges to 377A, it would make them look like they’re relinquishing or backing down, iykwim? basically i feel like they did it to appease queer ppl and progressives AND in a way that saves face haha

Oh exactly. I agree 100%, and I'm glad to have found someone who thinks that way too, because you'd be surprised at how rare of a take it is.

I think it's a masterfully-pulled-off balancing act that reeks of politicking. Like, they never evER want to lose in court, and so the best way to give ground on 377a is to proactively grant it to the gays/liberals, and use it to sweeten the deal while simultaneously going the opposite ditection on way more insidious, homophobic state structures and systemic oppression e.g. marriage laws and housing access. (So that they don't lose clout with moderates/conservatives). In the end, the PAP is once again having their cake and eating it too.

And yes, all while looking like the balanced, "benevolent" ruler with total grasp over the current situation/trends/shifts in values.

Compulsory Qn 3

One collaboration project that I would like to work on would be to create a school fashion magazine together with the Fashion Department. The magazine could feature students who have interesting or creative outfits, and we could interview them to ask where they got their inspiration from etc. This collaborative project would utilise Design Comm students’ design skills as well as Fashion students knowledge of design, and could overall be a fun monthly magazine that could be distributed throughout the school.

One final project I would like to do is to create a platform (app/website) to raise awareness for potential adoptee pets in Singapore or in SPCA. As someone who cares for animals a lot, I would like to use this opportunity to help these animals by utilising the skills I would have learnt over the 3 years. The platform could list pets that are available for adoption, and could include details such as their health status, age, breed etc so that potential owners could learn more about them before coming to a decision.

One organisation that I would like to contribute to is PinkDot. I would like to contribute to their design sector by helping out with the advertising, be it designing their promotional materials or their physical sets. I feel like their strong brand or image would be nice to work with, and I would like to see how I could help to build up on their image.

One job scope that I would like to branch out into is the UI/UX sector, where they are responsible for creating or designing the user interface for any interactive media. I think that CTS can help me in this sector as UI/UX designers have to go through a lot of trial and error until they get their desired outcome. Having a growth mindset can help me to embrace my failures and look for other ways to improve the interface despite running into problems.

Eyyyy I was at pinkdot too!! First pride after 377A got repealed! It always makes me a lil teary eyed to think how far we've come (there's a cynical part of me that thinks they only repealed 377A to keep the liberals and gays happy while they double down on marriage being between a man and a woman though 🤦‍♀️)

Maybe we even crossed paths at Pink Dot! :) LOVE myself a good picnic and man, weren't the free coconut water drinks SO GOOD? Hahaha. Hope you had an awesome time at Pink Dot, and wish you an awesome day ahead too :)
