In the Evil Twin AU, when Stan is 35 and trying to get a prescription for sleeping pills, the hospital forces him to attend mandatory therapy. During his therapy session, the therapist points out that he has way too low an opinion of himself and asks him to look in a mirror and say, "You're doing great. I love you." Stan does it and immediately throws up in the therapist's office out of sheer disgust. ​​​

You know… these two are really living an ABO AU lifestyle without it even being an ABO AU. Imagine this: for all of Ford’s enemies, for the demons spying on Gravity Falls, they can clearly see that Stanley has been walking around all these years with Ford’s mark on him. He’s remembered as “that non-threatening human marked by Ford.” Even Bill, when recalling Stanley, only remembers him because of that mark!

Like… Grunkle Stan is walking through the woods, and monsters rarely bother him. He thinks it’s because he never picks a fight with them, but in reality, it’s just because everyone sees Ford’s mark on him, remembers that lunatic, and decides, “You know what? Let’s not. I’d rather take the long way.”

Still some sketches related to the Evil Twin AU. Stanford’s daily life goes like: Stan: (does nothing) Stanford: (annoyed) "You just have to make me compromise, huh? Fine!"

Stanford gets hotter as he ages: as a kid, he was a snot-nosed potato; during his teenage years, he was a plain beanpole; in his early college days, he was a nerdy but kinda cute STEM boy; by the time he hit his thirties, he had transformed into a charming and dependable scientist; and when he returned, he became the hottest old man you've ever seen.

Stanley, on the other hand, always looked soft and huggable: as a kid, soft and huggable; as a teenager, soft and huggable; during his sales years, soft and huggable; right after losing his brother, still soft and huggable; and forty years later, he remains soft and oh-so-huggable. Soft and huggable.

Stanley’s view of Stanford: A handsome brother, always has been. Stanford’s view of Stanley: A soft and oh-so-fuckable brother, always has been.

Inspired by this scene from my Evil Twin AU novel:

‘As he climaxed, he pressed his face into the crook of Stan’s neck. Stan was warm. The room was quiet, safe, and a bit of light began to filter through the blinds, allowing Ford to see everything in Stan’s room more clearly. Strangely, he suddenly realized he hadn’t seen wooden planks like the ones making up the house in ages; most planets didn’t have tall trees. Earth should feel familiar, but it didn’t. He felt like a stranger here. Perhaps that’s why he had never actively tried to return all these years—there were some truths he also didn’t want to confront.

Stan's scent, after scraping away all the chemicals, hadn’t changed much over the years. If Ford closed his eyes, maybe he could still recall what home used to feel like.

Stan probably had no idea what Ford had left on his neck because Ford noticed the bathroom mirror Stan used was broken. Anyone living here who wanted to see what they looked like had to borrow a handheld mirror from Mabel. During the day, Stan would unknowingly walk around his little shop with the hickey half-covered by his shirt collar, telling tourists that they had to slice their hands and spill blood on the ground as a fun ritual before entering the shack. The only person who noticed was Wendy, who looked Ford up and down before disdainfully turning away. Not that Ford cared what she thought.’

I really love this post-breakup, amicable 30s AU, something like:

Stanford: We weren’t rational back then. But now we’re adults, we can handle being civil. Stanley: Yeah, the past is the past. Let’s just be good brothers again, alright? Stanford: Forever good brothers. Stanford: Though good brothers can occasionally— ​

And the part I love watching the most in this amicable breakup 30s AU is probably: Stanley, who’s mastered the ultimate moves in arguments, and Stanford, who seems to always be joking but is secretly trying to lure his brother back.

There’s also plenty of dark humor, like: Stanley: Let me play with your sci-fi blaster. Stanford: No. Stanley: Stanford, look at how dark the sky is tonight, but it’s still not as dark as the night you kicked me out of the house. Stanley: happily shooting birds in the woods

When it comes to the possibility of TikTok stealing privacy, there are two types of people in this world:

I love this amicable breakup 30s AU. Even when Stanford outright apologizes to him, Stanley just jokes, “Oh, sure, you’d say anything to get in my pants, wouldn’t you?” He’s really just playing dumb, trying to deflect and avoid the conversation entirely. That way, if Stanford ever asks him something like, “Don’t you want to get back together?” or “Haven’t you forgiven me?” he won’t have to answer honestly with, “No. I don’t want to. And no, I haven’t forgiven you.”

Both of them act like everything’s fine—one still wants to punch the other square in the face, and the other knows that but pretends not to and still holds on to hope.

The key to this AU is that they actually did date back then, really date, with all the intensity and sincerity of a first love that you never forget. And on top of that, they went through the most brutal breakup night in history. It was the kind of breakup where every cruel thing that could be said was said, and it ended with the conclusion that their love wasn’t real, their familial bond wasn’t real, and the two of them were about as compatible as a hippo and a brick.

Aside from all the breakup humor, this AU’s Ford is in an objectively terrible mental state (already starting to build the portal), but the mere sight of Stan casually walking by drives him insane. He completely loses composure in a way that’s so unlike himself. It’s like watching the The once-sunny golden boy has turned into the guilty secret that haunts the ghost the most. It’s adorable.

After that earth-shattering breakup night, I can’t help but wonder: When 19-year-old Stanford comes home for Thanksgiving dinner and goes to bed that night, does he lie awake wondering if Stanley will be standing over his bed with a knife? 🤤
