ok i dont know why this is where my mind went for this??? i hope its. alright. set right after parrot leaves kww for the capture the flag game.

“He's the worst,” Ken says, leaning back in his seat. “Is he always like this?”

“Yes,” Wifies says, rubbing his face. He cycles through the motions over and over. “Probably a bit worse than usual but yes.”

“And you like this guy?” Ken scoffs. “I did not drag you ass first out of that bedrock box just for you to have horrible taste in men.”

“I don't even know why you did it in the first place at this point.”

“Okay, wow, no, do not say that,” Ken says, sitting up. “Don't say that.”

Wato sits on the table ahead of Wifies, kicking at his seat lightly. Wifies drops his hands and looks at them, eyes stinging.

“You know that wasn't okay, right?” Wato asks.

“Yeah, sorry, it just kind of came out of my mouth without thinking,” Wifies stands up and tries to shake the malaise off.

“Hey, no, not that,” Wato grabs Wifies's arm. “Parrot.”

“Yeah, he's the worst,” Wifies rolls his eyes. “I know. I get it. I make bad choices.”

Wato and Ken glance at each other.

“Wifies,” Ken stands up too, closing in on his other side. “He's like. . . a walking red flag right now. You tried to defend him and he was a huge bitch about it.”

“I guess nobody did ask me,” but something hard lines those words, thick shelled and old.

“Wifies!” Wato snaps. “What are you saying? Who cares if nobody asked? You're a third of all decisions made here, you're always supposed to be here giving your opinion.”

“And who cares if Parrot didn't ask?” Ken continues. “I want to know anyway.”

“So do I.”

“That's gotta count for something, doesn't it?”

Wifies closes his eyes and breathes. His chest feels spiderwebbed, a hundred small threads spun together into delicate shape.

“It does. I'm sorry.”

“That damn bird,” Ken mutters under his breath.

Wato tugs Wifies over and bumps their turtle shelled head against Wifies's own.

“Unfortunately, he has a point with the whole beating them at their own game thing.”

“Do you actually agree with him, or do you just want his approval?” Ken asks, watching as Wifies tenses up.

“I actually agree.”

“If we win, it'd be really funny to drag the Warriors faces in the mud with our victory,” Wato says, bumping their heads together one more time before leaning back.

“Wato, the fact you know the easy way to my heart is kind of horrible,” Ken says, clearly sold on the idea. “We gotta win though.”

“Of course we're gonna win,” Wifies says, opening his eyes and glancing over at Ken. “We're the best at beating people at their own game.”

“That's my Wifies! Let's get out there and ruin their day.”

Notes. i Hate the farmers compound i hate the idea of death following ken every where she cant have anything. can you imagine? can you imagine masses of people just dying anywhere you go no matter what you do. blows up uu with my mind. anyway heres ken telling wifies about how all their citizens died. divider

Ken's hands are shaking by the time she finishes the story. Wato has long since gone quiet. Wifies stares, and stares, and realizes for the first time how much worse Ken looks now.

Ken has always been like that—haunted, maybe—but Wifies thinks when they first met, Ken could still hide it. He looks awful now, there are circles under his eyes and his fur looks thin, like he hasn't been able to take care of it. Wifies glances Wato's way, and she averts her eyes, but Wifies can see the tangles in her hair. It's longer than he's ever seen on her.

He could have lost them.

The realization hits him like a physical blow to the stomach, hard enough to make him feel sick. He could have lost them. Ken and Wato were here, millions of blocks out, and they could have died. Would Wifies have even known?

Even in his worst moments, Wifies has never been able to imagine a life without Ken and Wato in it. They've both always just… been there, for as long as he can remember and even before that. Not even his nightmares could conjure up a world where he didn't have them, it felt like trying to imagine a new color. And Wifies had gotten so, so close to living in that impossible world, and he hadn't even known. What the hell has he been doing?

Ken mutters something. Wato stands from her seat to round on him, placing a hand on his shoulder to guide Ken closer to her. Ken follows with no fight. Wifies feels horribly, horribly hollow.

"I'm sorry," he says, finally. He doesn't know what for; maybe everything. He's sorry they went through that. He's sorry they went through that and he wasn't there.

"It's alright," Wato says. One of her hands rubs over Ken's back, up to his shoulder and then his neck before repeating the process. The movement is even and rhythmic; Wifies gets the feeling this is a position they've taken a lot. "We're glad you're here now. Yeah?"

Ken hums from where he's half-tilted into Wato's chest. Wifies swallows, and then he shifts closer, too. One of Ken's arms folds around his waist easily—Wifies wraps himself around the two of them, and neither of them complain when he holds tight. Wato's free hand comes up to pet his ears.

Wifies has never been allowed to cry. At least, not in a way that matters. His heart does not beat hard and his hands only shake as much as would look good on camera. Crying is ugly, so Wifies doesn't cry, but he buries his nose in Ken's soft hair and his throat still burns.

"Yeah," Wifies croaks. "I'm glad to be here."

I have a HC that they both read a little, but they both categorically do NOT understand poetry at all. they suck at it. so here is them reading one of my favorite poems bc I like suffering.

“I didn't think you were a poetry guy,” Parrot says as he walks past the living room, a few bundles in his arms.

“I'm not,” Wifies calls out at him.

He's on the loveseat, poetry book in hand. He's more skimming than anything. He doesn't get it, exactly, but it's something to do and a new experience. Parrot rounds back and stands in front of Wifies's curled up form.

“Anything good?” he asks, glancing over the edge of the book.

“Here, this one's called—” he flips to the next page to a fresh poem. “Another Lullaby for Insomniacs.”

“You're the only insomniac here.”

“Let's see if it does anything for me then,” Wifies clears his throat. “Sleep, she will not linger: She turns her moon-cold shoulder. With no ring on her finger,” and he lifts his left hand and wiggles his ring less fingers at Parrot. “You cannot hope to hold her.”

Parrot snorts and grabs Wifies's hand, turning it back and forth.

“She turns her moon-cold shoulder, and tosses off the cover. You cannot hope to hold her: She has another lover.” Wifies raises an eyebrow. “She tosses off the cover and lays the darkness bare. She has another lover. Her heart is otherwhere.”

“It's repeating lines,” Parrot notes. “It's got a pattern.”

“Yeah, that's kinda cool,” Wifies says. Their fingers are interlocked now. “She lays the darkness bare. You slowly realize her heart is otherwhere. There's distance in her eyes.”

It's melancholic. Parrot has no commentary, nothing to say.

“You slowly realize that she will never linger, with distance in her eyes and no ring on her finger.”

There's silence. Parrot squeezes Wifies’s hand, shaking him out of his trance.

“I don't think I get poetry,” Wifies says, looking up at Parrot. “Like. . . I don't really know what that was all about. Obviously it's about insomnia, but it just sounds dramatic.”

“Yeah, I don't see the point.”

Parrot traces his thumb against Wifies's ring finger, an absent, soft movement. His talon brushes against the back of his hand over and over.

“But I mean, it means something to someone right? I'd like to understand.”

Parrot loosens his hold and Wifies slips his hand out of his grip, flipping to the next page.

“Well when you're done with that, come help me.”

“I will.”

I think Clonefies is almost basically canon to UU but idk if the new wato video is meant to run in line with any particular canon....... but it's fun to imagine ! Wifies all dejected from the whole Parrot breakup and Wato and Ken aren't on speaking terms 😭😭😭 but I think Wato would be extra clingy to Wifies in the aftermath of the 100 days bc despite everything it was that hallucination that pushed Wato to finally lock in and finish
