i feel so chronically online for getting pissed and triggered over fandom spaces being called “[insert fandom] cult” but i’m just sick of being reminded of my trauma in the one space i feel safe to connect with and talk to people interested in the same things as me.
can we stop calling things cults? thanks !! it’s super insensitive to people like me who are cult survivors.
cults and cult survivors are a lot more common than people realise !! there is a 99% chance you have a friend who is a cult survivor without even knowing.
i think everyone should be a lot more sensitive to the topics of cults. it’s serious and causes life long trauma that i will never be able to heal !! so don’t make jokes about it, don’t generalise it and honestly, if you’re about to say something about cults that you think might be insensitive, just don’t say it.

thinking bout that time my seminary teacher said that if you’re having intrusive thoughts, just think of something good because “you can’t think of two things at the same time :) :)” like, bro maybe YOU can’t

you will not be stuck here forever.
they will guilt you and force you to attend every meeting and participate in every activity but one day you will be gone and they won't be able to control you anymore.
one day you will not be forced to find solace in church bathrooms.

People who talk about how “how could you believe in the church ever, how did they talk you into getting baptized when you were 8? I NEVER would’ve fallen for that!” Did you believe in the Easter Bunny? The tooth fairy? Santa Clause? All things that are made up but you believed were true even though there were some weird and honestly creepy aspects of it if you look at it now, but you still believed in it and believed in the good parts of those things. Do not blame people for believing in something that they were fully taught was the truth because the people around them were taught it was the truth. Do not criticize a little kid for believing in Santa.

its really fucked up that mormons send out young men (barely even adults) to be as annoying as possible so that they get yelled at to solidify the churches doctrine of "you cant trust anyone outside of the church. if you leave you will never be happy" and call it a mission

Exjw's what are some songs that you love that helps or you relate to?
I will open this question up honestly to literally any excult member or anyone with religious trauma. I'm genuinely curious what kind of songs everyone has found.

Bro why does mormons talking about “marriage between a man and a woman” and “gender is ordained of god” and “god never changes his policies” hurt more than someone calling me slurs on a discord server

every conference is the same thing. Some old white guy goes up and is like: you should pray. If you don’t know what to pray for do it anyway. Then a different old white guy comes and goes you should go to the temple. Then ANOTHER old white guy comes up and tells you to not be gay/supportive without explicitly saying that. Cue a bunch of white people singing a song. Something about Joseph smith, something about worldly temptations, the longest prayer you’ve ever heard, then you’re done until they decide it’s time to waste more of your weekend. Fucking sick of it.

There are many, many reasons I left the lds church, and one of them is because when I was forced to go to seminary, my teacher would always reiterate time and time again how important it was to make sure you're getting your information from good sources, which is generally very good advice, but then say that the only good sources come from the church itself and claimed that any source that even remotely criticized the church was unreliable. She would tell us to look through the scriptures or through old conferences talks whenever we had a question instead of doing actual research.

Being PIMO (physically in, Mentally out) is the threshold to freedom. It is the bravery of questioning your universal truths. It is the practice of critical thinking and opening to new, better beliefs. Yes, it's scary to still physically be within an organization, but once you learn to trust your gut and rely on your own understanding, you are at the threshold to freedom
