Had a wonderful time at the Pima County Fair. We looked at all kinds of prize winning farm animals, viewed local arts and crafts, drank margaritas with a straw, ate greasy Chinese food and deep fried cookie dough and watched the Village People perform YMCA and Macho Man. Good times! April, 25th, 2022.

Here’s What’s Happening in Tucson This Weekend!

Happy Friday Everyone!

We’ve made it through another Pima County Fair without the temperatures being over 100 degrees!  Enjoy the fun, games, rides and music during this final weekend.

It’s almost May 5th which means its time to explore and celebrate the cultural, commercial, and culinary significance of the agave plant!  The Agave Heritage Festival offers a 2 week agenda of events that will entertain and enlighten you. See the full list of events here.  It culminates with the Cinco de Mayo celebration of course but now those margaritas will taste that much sweeter!

The Tucson International Mariachi Conference starts today and continues through the weekend at AVA Amphitheatre.  Dating back to the 19th century in Jalisco, Mexico, the indigenous music was influenced by the introduction of Spanish instruments.  Today Garibaldi Plaza in Mexico City is the center of Mariachi music. It’s fitting then, that the culmination of the conference is the Fiesta Garibaldi where you can enjoy the sights and sounds of some of the best Mariachi in the world.

Arizona Theatre Company presents ‘Things I Know to be True’, a well-received play centering on suburban family drama, plots and sub-plots.  Playing in Tucson for the next few weeks.

Your dream is to slow jam the news on Jimmie Fallon?  Okay, get some practice with this weekend’s Tucson Poetry Festival.  Listen to poetry readings, attend performances and discussions with over 150 poets attending. Learn how to move others with the spoken word.   

Jazz fans will be heading to Nogales tomorrow for the Charles Mingus Hometown Jazz Festival, honoring their native son who recorded over 100 albums and wrote over 300 music scores in his short lifetime. Here in Tucson, catch the John Mellencamp Show at Tucson Music Hall Sunday night.  You’ll hear ‘Little Pink Houses’, ‘Jack and Diane’, ‘Blood on the Scarecrow’, and other iconic hits from his career spanning over 40 years in addition to new music. He’s been nominated for 13 Grammy Awards, Co-Founded of Farm Aid, and is a painter and poet to boot.
