We always find greatness in the dead. In the end, we forgive them. I don't want anyone to forgive you.

Seen both. Both are good in their own way.
The film is cinematographically beautiful, so it's worth watching just for that. It's 3 hours long, it still left some chunks of the story out, but I'm sure anyone who's read the book will understand that it's impossible to condense the whole story into a film. It always has to make choices. Instead of a Bonapartist Noirtier, we get Bonapartist Villefort sister Angele, whom I personally really liked. My favourite parts were Edmond and abbe Faria in prison and the dinner party at Auteuil where the count tells the story of the buried baby, it has a true gothic feel. The biggest issue is (I should say semi-spoiler here), as part of his revenge plot, the count has Haydee seduce Albert, but then she falls for him for real and while it's not a bad idea by itself, it could have been handled better. End semi-spoiler.
The series has 8 episodes and covers more or less everything from the book, but also has many changes, so it's true to the book in many ways, but also not, but where it's not, it still works for the series. For example, the conclusion of Caderousse's storyline differs, but it ends up making sense for this version of Caderousse. Jacopo becomes the count's number one man and Vampa takes on the role of a fake Italian aristocrat as a potential suitor for Eugenie, instead of Andrea. It's a bit rushed at the end, it feels like they cut out a lot of scenes, but that's not that big of a crime. One thing that stands out is Danglars; the way Blake Ritson plays him, he turned him into an entertaining character, like his eyes literally light up with dollar signs when he sees money, lol.
How you end up feeling about these adaptations depends on how important the parts of the book that are left are for you. So if your fave is Bertuccio, for example, you're not gonna like either of these, as he doesn't appear. The task of un-burying the baby is given to other characters.
Funny thing is that the film, despite having less time, works in the count's disguises (both abbe Busoni and the English lord), while the series does way with them. But the film also kinda goes overboard with it, bc they have him use masks and he also wears a mask when he is the count of Monte Cristo. Which doesn't compliment him, and that's a shame bc he's a handsome guy.
So that's about it in a nutshell, if you want to know more, feel free to ask.
I saw the ask about the French Monte Cristo movie coming out, there’s apparently an English series too— https://variety.com/2023/tv/global/bille-august-mediawan-the-count-of-monte-cristo-starring-sam-claflin-1235751810/
weird how there’s no adaptations for 20 years and then two at once
Sorry I’m so late to this ask!!!! I just remembered that two tcomc 2024 adaptations exist now. We’re eating ig????
Anyways @anyone who’s seen either of them - are they any good 👉👈

Wait, I think this is the first time that I see English-language media mention Sam's series. Is it finally getting on their radar?
Also, Pierre's film actually had a 100% Rotten Tomatoes rating, it's when it got to America that it went down to 98%.
I didn't know there were two Nosferatus (not that it's necessarily my kind of thing anyway) but it again proves right what I said in one of my recent posts, referring to Fox's cancelled Persuasion adaptation, that you can have two titles of the same thing made close together and it doesn't matter. Basically they planned to adapt Jane Austen's Persuasion, starring Sarah Snook and Joel Fry, but then they decided not to go ahead with it, bc Netflix was also making their Persuasion (that one with Dakota Johnson which I hear is terrible). I saw Austen fans saying that they believed the Fox one would have been a good one. It's a shame that they felt they had to cancel it just bc of the Netflix production. Like, I'm sure Austen enthusiasts and period drama fans would not object to two adaptations of the same book in the same year. And those who complain can just not watch it. Or they can go to hell.
I mean, there's always some Sherlock pastiche going on and people are still into it.
