Too damn right she did! And all of the City Watch stands behind her! (Okay, Buggy Swires is flying his patrol pigeon and dive-bombing miscreants, but the point remains!)
"This is Ankh-Morpork, you know. We've got extra pronouns here." from “Feet of Clay” is such a fucking baller line to drop
Angua Von Überwald really said trans rights and took her new bestie to a gay bar

Discworld Fight Club 2023 Masterpost
Welcome to the biggest rumble the Disc has ever seen! Thrill as some of the turtle's premier brawlers, assassins, vampires, magic users, and tricksters face off in a five-round tournament to see who's the best of the best!
But first, please read the Rules:
Remember to vote based on who you think would win in a fight, not necessarily who is your favorite character. This is a tournament, not a popularity contest!
These fighters are good guys and shouldn't really bear any real animus toward each other, so consider this a more or less friendly event where no one is literally trying to murder anyone. So, when considering what weapons and techniques a character might use, think more in terms of how they'd incapacitate one another. That might involve using weaponry of course, but like, maybe Detritus shouldn't have access to the Piecemaker, is the kind of thing I mean, ha.
A contestant can win by knocking their opponent out, making them 'say uncle' so to speak, or even tricking them somehow! Think about the characters' strengths beyond, well, physical strength!
Successfully running away counts as a victory for the runner, not as a default win for the contestant left behind.
Reblogging and replying to the polls, especially with commentary on your reasoning for your vote, would be super fun and I hope a lot of people will do that! I tried to seed the bracket so the matchups are interesting, and I think there's some room for debate on a lot of them even at the start. Have fun!
So without further ado, let's have Discworld Fight Club 2023!
This will be updated as the rounds progress, with links to each poll. Winners on each match are in bold.

Round 5:
Final: Esmerelda "Granny" Weatherwax vs. Gytha "Nanny" Ogg
Granny Weatherwax has taken the title!! Thanks for participating, everyone! It's been a really fun week of battles, just as I'd hoped! And it's all thanks to you guys, for voting and commenting some pretty insightful and funny stuff! I definitely encourage everybody to go into the match links above and check out the notes if they haven't been doing so all along.
And thus ends Discworld Fight Club 2023!

Ankh-Morpork City Watch Tournament!
Detritus is the longest-serving troll member of the Ankh-Morpork City Watch. Before getting this job, Detritus had been a splatter (like a bouncer, but with more force) at the Broken/Mended Drum. During the Moving Pictures Craze, he got involved with Ruby, who wanted him to better himself; thus his change of careers. He is very well-versed in patiently questioning suspects, training new recruits, and Being Tactful. He wears adapted battle elephant armor and carries a 2000-lb-draw siege crossbow (the Piecemaker) as a hand weapon.
Angua is a werewolf, from a noble werewolf family in Überwald. She has a reliable nose and can track any thief, killer, or miscellaneous miscreants. She is constantly on guard against her animalistic instincts. She strives to be a vegetarian (at least in human form) and pays for the chickens she eats as a wolf, because animals don't. She has occasional dog-like habits and problems; she finds Mr. Fusspot's squeaky bone toy hard to put down, for example, and has both a bed and a basket in the place where she lives.

Detritus is educating the masses with a shotgun built from a major piece of artillery.
Detritus really was like, we’re completely out of our jurisdiction and facing down an army but call Cheery a slur again and we can do Koom Valley 2.0 right here right now I don’t give a fuck. King shit.
[image ID: a screenshot from The Fifth Elephant
Cheery dropped down from the coach. Her leather skirt flapped in the wind.
As one dwarf, the column swiveled to stare at her. Their leader went pop-eyed. “B’dan? K’raa! D’kraga ‘ha’ak’!”
Vimes saw the expression that appeared on Cheery’s small round face.
Above him there was a clunk as Detritus rested the loaded Piecemaker on the edge of the coach.
“I know dat word he said to her,” he announced to the world. “It is not a good word. I do not want to hear dat word again.”

A continuation of my assessment of Discworld books.
I have read Feet of Clay.
Heck.
Not exactly sure what more I can say.
Well. I'll try to get more in depth.
I haven't heard many good things about this one (mostly neutral opinions), which is a shame. If you've read the watch books in order, G!G! is a great start for Discworld overall and Men at Arms is a stellar follow up. But Feet of Clay makes everything make sense. It shows us why and how Vimes exists (because Vetinari sculpted him and put words in his head), what the watch is really capable of, and it is a better analogue to our real world than any prior book.
Feet of clay is about 3 different kings. The king made by kings who knows better than to rule, which is Carrot. The King made by lords and wealthy men who doesn't want to rule because he knows it's a figurehead position, which is Nobby. And the king made by the oppressed that could not be a good king despite trying, which is Meshugah. It is interesting that all three of the first watch novels have this obsession with kingship. In G!G! The villain wants to be king because he wants power and wealth and money and so on. In Men at Arms, the inciting incident is that someone realizes there is a "proper" king to be had and it would only be right and proper by the lord's and ladies of the city to have him installed. But in Feet of Clay everyone seems to want a king; not for power per se, but because they envision a king as a savior in a time of crisis. But they don't realize what Vetinari and Carrot know as of the end of Men at Arms, that kings fail and the throne is rotted hollow behind the gold leaf. And this is the point of the novel, I think. To have feet of clay means to be mighty and powerful but simultaneously weak or to have a particular weak point. It seems that kingship in and of itself is a weakness. No good king could be a good king because no good king represents a cohesive community, no great kingdom can be ruled by one man because it is inherently fragmented. And a good king in a position where he cannot be a good king is driven to madness. It happens to Nobby when he jumps out of the window and wholesale rejects the offer of kingship. It happens to Meshugah right when he's made, because he comes into being with the role of king and no way to fulfill his role. And Angua fears that it is happening to Carrot, that he is so close to snapping but unable to let himself snap.
Personally, my favorite part of Feet of Clay is Dorfl. Dorfl is the ideal person in the book, almost as much the hero/protagonist as Vimes and as much of a self realization story as Cheri. Because Dorfl starts out wanting a king, believing he must have a master and that there must be a savior for his kind. Dorfl is one of the golems that makes a king. And it is literally Dorfl's feet that become the feet of clay upon which the golem king Meshugah stands. When Dorfl realizes that he can be his own master, that he can own himself and his actions and his body, he realizes that the king he made is more his responsibility than he is its responsibility. And so he goes about trying to dismantle the king he made, because of all the people that make a king in this book Dorfl is actually capable of assuming responsibility for the king he helped create.
It also doesn't hurt that Dorfl is just a cool character. He gets to catch a javelin fired from the Piecemaker at near point blank range, he gets a fantastic fight scene, and he does something that I think no other golem ever does in Discworld which is he lives by his own words.
There is more to love about the book, of course, like the scathing take on capitalism and property (though I don't think that is as pertinent now as when it was written), and the whole matter of Cheri (who I also love and will perhaps write more about later) and her manifesting her self.
Anyway. It is worth reading the watch books to get to Feet of Clay. And I imagine Feet of Clay is worth reading for the rest as well.

Who Is The Mystery Woman on BLÜM Entertainment’s YouTube Channel?
February 20th, 2015
by Nadia Williams
Around a month after their news that disheartened fans, BLÜM Entertainment released a video simply titled “Game… Start!” to their YouTube Channel. It immediately flew under the radar because of Nalina’s comeback announcement. But the video soon sparked internet-wide confusion.
Many Netisims screenshotted the thumbnail alone and posted it to social media because of the girl featured.
It features a younger looking woman with shirt hair and casual clothes. People immediately wondered if the members of Ki-Ti were up to something, but one user cross referenced the thumbnail with a current photo of each of the members. None of them have this hairstyle. When a Netisim humorously suggested people watch the video for more clues, it only caused more confusion.
It wasn’t a Ki-Ti member, as the young woman introduced herself as “Ahn Yeseul”. Many people complimented her beauty, lamenting at the lack of close-up shots. Blurry, zoomed in screenshots of the woman began trending and people with her as their profile picture began popping up all around the internet. Two photos seemed to be the most popular.
The part when Yeseul enters the house and when she’s picking a bed. Netisims were so preocupied with the woman in the video that they were missing the other parts of the video. They eventually pointed out many key details: this is some sort of show where people will get to know each other, these people might be living together, and there are seven beds from which they can choose from.
Quickly, a fan club arose for the assumed seven member group and their appointed leader. One person even found out that Yeseul is currently a trainee under BLÜM Entertainment.
Other Netisims were a bit more skeptical, stating that this could just be a random activity given to a trainee that didn’t make the lineup of the next group. They urged people to stay patient and even insulted them for creating and joining a fan club of a nonexistent group.
Regardless, the placeholder name for the group has been creatively dubbed “Piece” and their fan club “piecemakers”.

Kay this is why you don’t post things at 1am, I realized the diagram and instructions required a lot of edits so I’m just taking down that post for now. I’ll make up for it by giving y’all a materials list for the Sea Guard Cadet Tunic:
So. You want to make the Sea Guard Tunic. You will need:
2 yards of teal medium-weight linen or wool. All pattern pieces, excluding the cuff interlining, will be cut from this. I used linen from fabrics-store.com in the color “Sphinx.” For a fully screen-accurate wool tunic, use this wool from renaissancefabrics.net (currently sold out, but will probably be restocked)
1”x22” of a lightweight but stable fabric for interlining the cuffs. I used a different linen I had lying around. A plain cotton or something similar will work just as well. Silk organza is bizarrely good as an interlining but it is also ass to work with, so I don’t recommend it for this project.
Sewing thread. I used 50wt Kinkame silk thread from britexfabrics.com, color 47. You can use whatever regular sewing thread you have on hand, but you will have to wax your thread if hand-sewing with something other than a high-quality silk thread. Treat Gutermann silk sewing thread like it’s cotton.
4 small buttons (2 on each cuff). Mine were 1/4” diameter vintage shell buttons. You can also substitute these for 2 larger 1/2” diameter buttons, 1 for each cuff.
Size 8 or 9 quilting “betweens” (or whatever you prefer). These are shorter than regular sharps. Nicole Rudolph, who is an excellent historical costumer, uses embroidery needles, which are thicker and longer than sharps. This all comes down to personal preference and comfort. Betweens work for me, but they may not work fo you. Test out different needle types and invest in them when you find a good fit. I used the size 9 betweens from Clover.
Size 28 tapestry needles, if sewing linen. Just trust me on this. The blunt point will make all the seams so much less annoying, and you will need them if you want to do any embroidery. You may still find it necessary to fell the seam allowances using a smaller sharp needle. I use the ones from Piecemaker’s. Note: you can find these at a cheaper price from other online shops, and I can’t vouch for their shipping because I didn’t order mine from them, but I want to link to their shop directly.
Fabric scissors. I used embroidery scissors for everything. This is stupid. Do not do that, it takes forever and is deeply unnecessary. Use regular fabric sheers unless you’re a masochist like me and need everything to be perfectly on grain or you’ll go bonkers.
Beeswax, for waxing your thread. You don’t need this if you are using a smooth silk thread like Kinkame or Tire silk threads. You can get it from Burnley and Trowbridge. One thing of wax will last you forever and is a good investment even if you use silk for this project. I got mine many years ago from Whole Foods, in the…health and beauty aisle? The one with all the essential oils. It is also sold by various Indigenous-owned small businesses!
Optional:
Embroidery thread of your choice. I used a size 12 perle cotton from Valdani in shade 152, and a size 16 perle cotton from Finca in shade 4074. Valdani perle cottons can be found on etsy, and I got my Finca perle cotton from roseground.com, a UK-based lacemaking supplier.
Beads, if you want some sparkle. Size 11 and 8 seed beads would work well, especially if trying to emulate the show’s aesthetic. I get beads from direct.auntiesbeads.com which sells them in little bulk-quantity baggies. I didn’t bead my tunic, but I may bead future TROP cosplays.
You may want to have a 0.65mm (very small!) crochet hook, if sewing with silk thread. Instead of using a seam ripper, I pull my stitches out and reuse the thread. You can do this with other threads but they will start to fray and fall apart very quickly. Kinkame and similar silks will not. The crochet hook helps speed up the process. Always remove stitches in reverse of the direction you put them in, on the chance you pierced your thread on the backside. This allows you to maintain the longest possible usable length of thread.

✨Lupin III Discworld AU✨
Miscellaneous headcanons
Aka stuff that didn't fit in the other posts
If you have ideas, headcanons, or even just vague vibes, please do reblog or send me an ask!
///
Rincewind is terrified of Zenigata. He once got arrested because he was startled by Zeni yelling LUPAAAAAAAAAN! and started running for the hills, making Zenigata believe he was Lupin in disguise.
///
Detective Yata befriended Head Secretary Drumknott after his and Zenigata's first visit to the Palace. They competitively compare their respective bosses, share filing tips, and commiserate about pencil theft (a quirk that Lupin has unfortunately copied from Lipwig). Drumknott accidentally called Vetinari "Sempai" once.
///
Zenigata tried to arrest the Luggage once, before the Watch explained to him why he shouldn't (apparently the Luggage eating his hat wasn't enough to deter him).
///
Lupin made Jigen one of those wristwatches that tell the phases of the moon (like the one Carrot made for Angua).
///
Lupin had a phase where he obsessively stole famous dwarf breads, prompting Carrot to ask to be assigned to the Lupin case with Zenigata.
///
The Gang adapting to the moon cycles and Jigen's transformations. Yeah. (I have a lot of feelings about werewolf!Jigen if you couldn't tell already)
///
The Thieves’ Guild and the Watch are competing to catch the Gang, but secretly Vimes is rooting for the Gang, because he dislikes Lupin only slightly less than he dislikes the Guild. Lupin knows at least a dozen different ways to escape from the Tanty (and has a hefty stock of Hope Spoons as a result). Vetinari probably planned to reassign him into public service, but has long since given up on the idea, and now only tolerates him as Enrichment for Lipwig.
///
For Jigen's birthday, every year Lupin steals a public figure's hat. Jigen returned Mustrum's hat (a custom wizard hat with drawers, a crossbow and an alcohol flask in it) the next day. The theft of Lipwig's golden winged postman cap lead to Adora-Belle claiming she didn't recognize him. Lupin's next target is Srgt. Detritus' ventilated helmet. (He hasn't tried to steal Vetinari's skullcap yet, probably because he retains a smidge of survival instinct.)
///
For Goemon's birthday Lupin raids the Assassin's Guild's museum of historical weapons, and pilfers anything that has a blade.
///
Jigen's greatest dream is to shoot Detritus' Piecemaker.
///
The Gang visits Lancre in an expedition to steal... I don't know what. There isn't much to steal in Lancre. They meet the local coven and Nanny Ogg starts hitting on Lupin. (I'm still unsure whether Lupin reciprocates, that would honestly be hilarious).
///
Zenigata regularly enlists Angua's help to track down the Gang. He's one of the rare outsiders to the Watch who's allowed to know that she's a werewolf. Angua has a personal rivalry with Jigen, who's constantly teasing her when they meet in human form.
///
Jigen and Bengo Macarona are exes. (Actually, would it be funnier is Bengo is Jigen's or Lupin's ex? He's Quirmian so it would make sense that he's met Lupin, but also he's a soccer player and he is JACKED.)
///
Goemon's Zantetsuken is a talking sword (like Kr!ng in The Color of Magic). Its personality is the living embodiment of Bushido, and it is extremely annoying. Fujiko stole it and ran from Agatea thinking she could make a fortune from it, but it kept insulting all her potential buyers. She was about to throw it in the Ankh when Goemon finally caught up with her. The Gang have threatened to throw it out the window countless times during long carriage rides. It's part of the reason why Goemon typically sits on the roof, and why Fujiko only rides on her horse golem and not in the carriage.
///
Again, if you have ideas, headcanons, or even just vague vibes for this AU, please do reblog or send me an ask!

And Detritus is the one who points out the slur in the first place.
...with the Piecemaker.
I like that Vimes' reaction to Cheri Littlebottom's character arc in Feet of Clay is... distracted acceptance. Like, he's so caught up in the a-plot of the novel (Sam and Carrot Unravel a Conspiracy) that he doesn't really consciously notice the b-plot (Cheri and Angua's Adventures in Gender Expression). He notices her wearing fingernail polish and high heels, asks about them, and moves on before using her preferred pronouns at the climax.
It's easily missed, but it's nice that it's there.
Then, in Fifth Elephant, he's willing to throw the fuck down - like, start a goddamn war - when someone uses a slur directed at Cheri.
