•｡ ✩ All it took was for the young man to rest against the trunk of a tree - blanketed by its shade in the midst of the waning summer - to fall asleep and awaken when the shade that covered him was replaced by vast darkness. Rock stretched on the grass and gazed up through the leaves of the tree to see the stars twinkling above him. He laid there for a few moments until he remembered that he was simply taking a break from walking at the zoo when he accidentally took a nap, and if it was such a late hour already, then the place must be closing soon. If that were the case, then he could be considered trespassing unto private property - but what was more of a crime was just how relaxed he was.

He opened one eye and caught sight of someone walking past him, albeit no one he recognized; nevertheless, with an innocent intonation to his voice, he spoke up as a soft smile traced his lips. “Beautiful night out, yeah?”

🦋 - “Um, Agate... it’s been a while, and nothing’s bitten yet... am I really doing this right?”

Ever since a certain incident from her childhood, involving a fumbled attempt at fishing and resulting distaste for fish, Sherry didn’t have any interest in trying it again.

But Agate wanted to spend time with her, and when the other girl showed an interest in fishing and other such outdoor activities (just like the old days), Sherry found it hard to say no. It wasn’t everyday she got to hang out with the other woman, especially now that all her time was being taken up by mayoral duties. If she didn’t take the chances to stay connected to her friends, she might not ever get those chances again.

So she spent whatever time with them she could. Even if it involved... learning how to fish...

Sherry bites her lip, hoping a repeat of last time wouldn’t happen. She really didn’t want to be dragged into the water again... “D-do they not like the bait, maybe?”

✒It was quite fortunate to just happen upon a sparring partner in the woods and a competent one at that. Agate was throwing shurikens at a tree stump when Kasumi stumbled upon her. The idea came naturally as Kasumi was preparing to practice her aim as well, however in archery.

They began meeting up where they first met to practice hand-to hand combat. At their first meeting, Kasumi wasn’t sure what to wear. For most martial arts she tended to wear the traditional aikidogi, so it only made sense for these training sessions. Aikido was her preferred form of combat, after all. 

As she began her stretches, Kasumi thought about how she would have to get the grass stains out of her hakama. Agate would be here any minute. Kasumi arrived early, being the punctual person she is, but perhaps she arrived too early. It was then that she heard the rustling of grass behind her.

“Good morning, Miss Agate. I trust you are having a productive day.”

Well, there went Georgia’s holiday bonus.

Begrudgingly, but with certainty in his heart, Vaughn enclosed 5,000G each in four separate envelopes. 

The Pelago Wildlife Rehabilitation Center was in its infancy. It was a repurposed winery, and shaping something like that into what it was now had been a lot of work. But it was up and running, and their little cast of injured animals was slowly growing, all the while being given the utmost in care and compassion. 

He was proud. This was the most important thing he had ever done. 

Without these people, he wouldn’t be doing it. They were something special. They were people he, despite his taciturn demeanor, would call his allies, without a moment’s thought. Maybe someday they’d even be his friends.

With these sentiments, he could bear to give up a bit of money, if it helped them live a little better. He wished he could give more but the man wasn’t made of money.

🌧️- favorite thing to do on rainy days?

Walking the streets at night is the first thing that springs to mind. The strong scent of petrichor, coupled with liberating silence and the reflection of lamp lights in puddles, it made for a quiet evening and therapeutic time to himself.

“I think painting is an underrated past-time. You’d make an awfully cute muse.”

Probably not a good idea to bring up playing with Ouija boards as a creative outlet.

☾✭☽  Barney’s circus was looking a bit...bare. Mimi didn’t have money for much more than what she already had. After paying for the circus, she wasn’t left with much money. If she could get more acts, then more people would come...but how..?

When she first arrived at Pelago, Mimi picked up a map. Central Park Zoo immediately caught her eye, but it was put out of her mind by other things. Now, as she was sitting on her cot thinking, she saw the map peaking out from under her bed. When she pulled it out, her eyes immediately landed on the zoo and she knew what she had to do.

Mimi looked around the zoo with twinkling eyes. Such majestic creatures! She could definitely see these animals performing at her circus. Hopefully the zookeeper would too. A deep breath in through her nose reminded her of one of the less glamorous parts of having animals. Maybe she could just spritz the place with some perfume.

After asking around a bit, Mimi found who she believed to be the owner. Mimi was surprised to see a young woman where the owner supposedly was. What an amazing girl she must be, being in charge of a whole zoo!

Welcome to the Safari || Raguna & Agate

[✿] — It wasn’t often that Raguna went out, but after the opening of the safari, he couldn’t help but grow curious. Even though he undoubtedly loved plants more, he had a bond with monsters and animals he couldn’t quite explain.

So as he walks through the safari, he finds himself feeling relaxed and at ease. The animals all looked happy and content as they moved about, and Raguna could tell that they were watched over and taken care of with great consideration and love.

This thought brings a smile to his face, and as he turns to move off into the next area, he nearly walks right into a girl who had been standing behind him, the farmer stumbling and quickly stepping back to put some space between him and the woman.

“S-sorry ‘bout that! I didn’t see you there.” He gives a sheepish smile, running a hand through his hair. “I didn’t run into you, thank the Goddess, but uh, still... are you alright?” There was really no reason for him to ask that, but he couldn’t help but do it, anyway.

❃.✮:▹❁ — The Central Park Zoo was one of the attractions of the islands that Komari wanted to visit one of these days. Truth be told, she...didn’t get out much from her hometown being busy with one thing or the other. Not to mention how much she’d have to hear from her dad about venturing out on her own. 

It was one time she got lost! 

Okay, maybe a couple, but she wouldn’t make the same mistake. Hopefully. So, while waiting in line to hand the worker their money, she made sure to grab a map of the place so at least she had a guide to the zoo. And if she still got lost, then she could totally ask one of the nice staff members! 

Like her cousin, Agate. 

Wait, what?! 

When Komari was at the front of the line, she couldn’t believe her eyes. It had been too long since she had last seen her, and to finally spot her, not only at a zoo, but working here... Guess it really was a small island after all.

“Agate?” She asked, mouth agape.

All Natural || Georgia & Agate

[🐎] — As owner of one of the only two pet shops operating in the archipelago, Georgia often found herself consulting and doing business with her Leudan counterpart, a woman that went by the name of Agate. Through their work, the two had managed to forge a bond thanks to their shared love of animals and the outdoors, and whenever they both had the time to, they would hang out, or go on occasional nature hikes with their dogs.

Today was one of those days. Agate had gotten off of her shift at the wildlife center a little earlier than usual, and with the snow cutting down on a lot of her ranch work, Georgia found herself with a little extra free time, too. 

Now, it was far too cold out to do any actual hiking. And with the treacherous conditions of Mt. Reineir, Georgia didn’t feel they would be prepared enough for one, anyway. So instead, the rancher stops by her friend’s workplace, and decides to take her out to eat.

...If ‘going out to eat’ meant ‘saving her money and eating leftovers at home’, that is.

“So you don’t mind eatin’ over at my place, do ya? Laney made a lot of food last night, so we’ve got plenty of leftovers!” She chuckles, “I’m sure Muku and Roxie would love to see you, too.”

Alex loved animals. There was nothing more he wanted than to adopt a big, active dog and take it to the park, on runs or on mountain hikes every day. But with his current living situation, that wouldn’t be possible for a while. So to sate his desire for a pet, he decided to go to the zoo instead. 

He headed straight to the big cat exhibit first. House cats, he wasn’t really too bothered with. They didn’t do much other than sleep or attack. But lions, tigers, panthers, they were cool. He wandered around for a while, reading the signs and snapping a couple of pictures before moving on.

On his way to the next exhibit, he spotted a familiar face. Waving to get her attention, he called out, “Agate! Hey!”

He’d known she worked at the zoo, but he hadn’t expected to see her, assuming she’d be more behind the scenes.

The zoo had been open for some time, but Lily had never found the time or excuse to visit. Finally, on this work-free Saturday morning, she decided to do just that. She didn’t have a strong interest in animals in particular, but she was curious to see animals she’d never seen before up close.

She wandered somewhat aimlessly around the zoo, peering in enclosures as she passed. The zoo was big and crowded, and she hadn’t put much thought into her plan of action. As she read an information board outside one of the exhibits, she spotted what looked to be a zoo employee nearby, chatting animatedly to some guests. Once their conversation had finished, Lily approached the worker. 

“Hey, I was just wondering if there’s a map available anywhere?” she queried. “It’s my first time visiting, and the number of exhibits is quite overwhelming.”

Billy knew his shoelace on his right foot was untied. He just didn’t care. It could wait until her got home. His arms were full of groceries that he had been putting off getting anyway. Some things could wait like shampoo and hand soap (he was getting the remaining contents out of the containers by filling them with water), but other things like toilet paper and instant ramen noodles couldn’t. He knew where his priorities lied.

A misplaced step. That’s all it took to send Billy and all of his groceries crashing to the ground. There were plenty of people around, but just one person approached seemingly to help. Not yet noticing the conscientious individual, he first reached for the most valuable item, the ramen.
