Does Protection from Red, say through Sword of Fire and Ice, always stop other damage redirection/changes like Stuffy Doll, Phytohydra, Blazing Sunsteel, etc, or ilcan you stack the effects to still get it?
It depends on which of these cards you're talking about.
Stuffy Doll and Blazing Sunsteel have triggered abilities, not replacement effects. These effects require damage to actually have been dealt and not prevented, so protection/damage prevention won't allow these abilities to trigger at all from damage from a red source since no damage will be dealt. (Also Blazing Sunsteel can't be on a creature with Protection from red anyway.)
Phytohydra, on the other hand, does have a replacement effect and so when damage from a red source would be dealt, you get to choose whether to prevent the damage with protection or to replace it with the Phytohydra ability.

mtg discord I'm was talking about doing a lil even thing where people make their own commanders and I immediately thought of a hydra commander I've wanted forever.
Behold, my boy Polukranos (also I have no idea who made the art for this, the site I got it from looked like it was trying to give me viruses when I tried to check)
Basically I'm combining two things that bother me about some of the hydra card design, and fixing them with one commander.
Basically, because a lot of hydras are 0/0 creatures that you pay extra to make big, a lot of effects that pull things out of your deck or graveyard for free will cause you to play them as a 0/0, killing them instantly. Apex Devastator, Genesis Hydra, and Gyrus are all bad in hydra focused decks, because their mechanics go against how hydras work in the game. My card I designed fixes that, giving every hydra at least a few +1/+1 counters.
It also works with hydras that provide buffs.
By using these on Polukranos, it will make all hydras going forward more powerful. Sure a lot of these work on Animar, but Nyxborn specifically doesn't and it makes me sad.
Finally, it combos well with Hydra Broodmaster and Zaxara, the Exemplary.
Both of these create more hydras, which will in turn power up Polukranos.
I decided on his colors being blue black red and green because there's only like four hydras with white, one being the only wubrg hydra, Progenitus, one being another polukranos card (from when he was compleated), a random phyrexian hydra, and phytohydra which isn't even the best card with "phytohydra" in the name.

“We agree that life should flourish. We disagree on the optimal number of limbs.”
The Selesnyan elf glanced over at the Simic vedalken who had just spoken. The shaman rolled her eyes. “On that, at least, we can agree.”
“Yeah. But, uh…” The vedalken met the elf’s gaze. “You guys in the Selesnya think it’s four, right? Two arms, two legs?”
“No, twenty- Yes, four!” The elf grew annoyed, but the vedalken only grew more curious.
“Well, the reason I ask is: aren’t some of you guys centaurs?”
The elf’s eyes widened, and she immediately backpedaled. “Uh, well, I was mainly referring to-”
“Also, what about those plant hydra things you use? Phytohydras, you call em, right? They have plenty of limbs to go around.”
“Look, you’re arguing over semantics…”
“Some of your dryads are grown into their trees-”
“All right, I get it!” The elf’s reddened face angrily stared down the scientist. “It was a bad analogy! My deepest apologies!”
The vedalken raised an eyebrow. “A bad analogy? Do you perhaps mean, ‘a biased and insufficient system for determining whether or not a living organism deserves-’”
“That one! Sure! Whatever!” The elf raised a glowing hand. “Look, let’s just cast this spell, okay?”
“Okay, sorry,” the vedalken answered nervously. “But, do you think I have a point?”
The elf conspicuously glanced around to look for any eavesdroppers, and found none. When she finally spoke, her monosyllabic answer was almost silent. “…Yes.”
“Aha!” chimed the vedalken. “So there is some sense in there!”
“Cast spell. Now.”
“Sure thing, partner.” The vedalken prepared to cast the spell while looking over at the elf, and could nearly see the steam emanating from the woman’s pointed ears.

Combo-Modbo ~
Here’s a few goodies for you, with some proper credits at the end. These are uncommon and rare examples, so take that into consideration when thinking about common or even mythic entries! What would be a good draft uncommon vs. a solid draft bomb rare? What does it need to make it “work?” If something is perhaps aimed at constructed instead (Barrowboon Storm), what would that look like? How aggressive do you want your synergies to be (Perpetualemental)?
Permanents and nonpermanents alike can have different abilities. Think about card types, lands, combinations of cards, creature types, already present synergies. This is a contest where a lot of strategies that use similar effects might come together, so look through history. What are some unusual examples that you can use?
@abelzumi — Barrowboon Storm
@follower-of-liliana — Consulate Archivist
@illharg-the-rave-boar — Cultivated Phytohydra
@mistershinyobject — Bothersome Ouphes
@thatboonguy — Perpetualemental

Thought it was about time I posted about my fanwalker, Aegen, the Hydra Breeder/of the Infinite/Momir's Legacy/etc.
Colors: BUG. Truth Seeking, Growth Mindset, Profanity. "A driven wanting, not fiery or passionate, but sure and unyeilding, willing to break any rule or law, but respectful of the powers of nature and fate"
Creature Type: Elf Hydra Mutant. Aegen is genetically linked to her hydras, making them an extension of herself; through the process of biomancy and an unique form of body-to-mana conversion (pay X life, add X mana).
A female elf from the Simic guild on Ravnica. Aegen was mentored by the best biomancers in her district, Aegen was a prodigy, having a knack for genetic modification, and loved to experiment with combining various creatures. One of her favorite specimens, were the Phytohydras, their abilities to regrow even after being reduced to little more than stalks, and grew rapidly in response to harm, Aegen's favorite hybrids contained hydra.
One night, Aegen was in the archives, reading experiments of previous guild members, and stumbled upon Experiment Kraj, a creation that had the abilities of all that were connected to it, what a marvelous idea.
Aegen soon grew bored with her colleagues work, always ending in destruction, no better than the Izzet! But Aegen knew better, she learned from the mistakes of Momir Vig and her peers. They lacked foresight and respect for their creations. They lackesd control.
Aegen's spark most likely ignited for this reason, she no longer had the resources or the means to do what, needed to be done.
Theros is the first plane she visited, there she saw and studied the voracious, powerful, and resilient hydras of the plane. She learned their behavior, their hunger, it was easy for her to, entice them, to follow her command. She spliced her genetic memory into them, theirs onto her.
After mastering control over her pets, the extensions of her will, Aegen realized, they had more potential, if only she had more power to pour into them...
Searching the multiverse, Aegen found relics that extended ones own power, and beings who could create their own mana, and lots of it. Combining these two things was easy for Aegen to do, it was what she did best.

Mimosa Pudica isn’t a good card name?
If you have Twitter, I encourage you to watch the video, it’s kinda cool. But basically after being touched the leaves fold up. Sort of like how instead of being hurt, Phytohydra pumps up its defense.
One cool thing about that is rerouting damage to the Phytohydra so it gets really big.

You like potted plants? Could I interest you in the hearty, fast growing new type of plant? You might need . . . a constant supply of pots. (I really need to get rid of some of these phytohydra, please take one.)
...No.
In fact, you’re under arrest.

How do Deathtouch and Infect/Wither affect Phytohydra?
They don’t.
Phytohydra prevents all damage that would be dealt to it, so the damage is never dealt and thus the effects of wither/infect can’t occur.

Very similar to Sprouting Phytohydra, but no defender and more toughness. Things that combo’d with the Phytohydra still work here though, and there’s also things like Cherished Hatchling and Temple Altisaur coming out in Standard.
An oldie but a goodie, Pyrohemia only hits for one damage to all creatures, meaning you double the number you have with each activation...and then subtract the number you’re losing to lethal. Still a great way to ramp up, and will help you get enough creatures for that new Huatli to pay off.
Derek Zooraptor: Who am I?
Derek Zooraptor’s Reflection: I don’t know.
