@tgmsunmontue !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE!! (everyone should add this idea to their list though, lets get all the different versions of it we can hangster fandom!)
But yes, Jake's definitely ready for that next step in his life. He wants marriage and kids and he thought his FWB/situation-ship was starting something (until of course he gets told through text that they're done because they think they found something better).
So it's easy to let himself be talked into doing the calendar and win-a-date thing by Javy and Nat (who want their date nights back and to not see Jake doing his version of moping around their house) and Jake is honestly just hoping for a decent night to basically reset himself before he throughs himself into blind dates (he let himself agree to a set number of dates from his sisters, Javy and Nat) and then he walks into the restaurant and promptly trips over air because holy shit. holy fucking shit. the single hottest man sitting at the table.
and then he hears Bradley's voice as he bashfully introduces himself and Jake is just. gone. has checked out. wants to know everything about this man and is happy and charmed and besotted as he listens to Bradley ramble and ramble and ramble and Jake can't help but ensure the date continues as the restaurant closes down around them, by offering to go get ice cream or shakes or something to keep Bradley just a bit longer.
of course Bradley is all bashfully apologetic for taking up so much of Jake's time and talking his ear off as they walk out of the restaurant and is absolutely stunned when Jake insists on continuing on for a late night stroll and then more dessert and then back to Jake's place. and hey, Jake is offering breakfast after a fantastic night spent together and then breakfast leads to lunch and then a movie and all of a sudden the weekend has passed and they didn't even realize they literally spent it all together until Sunday night and they have to part because they both have work in the morning. but that's okay because Jake ensures they make plans as soon as they can because fuck, he's never felt like this before.
and Bradley? the same. he was so worried about the date and make a fool of himself and then ruining the date and everything but it's okay because now, after Jake and spending the whole weekend together, he gets his parents, their love for one another. a full believer in love at first sight now, because he's sure that's what happened with Jake.
(all of Bradley's patients are thrilled when he bashfully tells them about the date and spending whole weekend with Jake and how they set up several different dates already to keep spending even more time together!)
(Bradley's patients are Sereshaw's biggest supports, along with Nat and Javy)
I've been holding on to this one tight but I figured y'all deserve it

Gonna Make You Sweat | Rooster x Reader
Summary: Bradley is determined to get back in peak physical condition, but you are more of a distraction than he anticipated.
Warnings: Fluff and smut
Length: 2000 words
Pairing: Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw x Female Reader
This was written to accompany my series Is It Working For You? along with a bunch of my one-shots! (But it can be read on its own) Check my masterlist in my profile for the reading order!
Bradley had finally graduated from physical therapy, and while he had regained full use of his left arm, the scarring was still very much present. He hated the way it looked, but there wasn't much he could do about it.
But what he could do, was get himself back in top shape before he married you. His physical therapist had given him the green light to work out as much as he wanted to, and he decided to buy a weight bench for the garage.
"We don't really even use the garage, and this way we can have a home gym," he told you as he ordered everything online from his spot on the couch.
You climbed into his lap and took his phone out of his hand. "Promise me you aren't doing this because you think you need to, Bradley. You're very physically healthy already. You go for a run most days, and I feed you very well."
Bradley examined your face. "Don't you miss my abs, Baby Girl?"
You just shrugged against his chest and ran your fingers under his shirt and across his belly button. "They were nice. This is nice, too. And I'm going to absolutely love it when you have a dad bod someday," you said, biting your lip and moaning.
Just hearing you say the word dad had his dick signaling that it was time to be inside you, and that moan had him pushing you down onto the couch.
"A dad bod, you say? As soon as you want that to happen, you just let me know, Sweetheart," he said, yanking your shorts off as you stroked him through his jeans. You giggled as he kissed your engagement ring and slid inside you.
-------------------------------------
The gym arrived two weeks before Labor Day in what seemed like a million delivery boxes filled with pieces that needed to be assembled. Bradley coaxed you out to the garage one evening after work to help him put it together, but you weren't much help at all.
"Let's go to bed," you whined over and over again, crawling into his lap where he sat on the floor. "I like your body the way it is. You don't even need a gym."
He just chuckled, wrapping his arms around you. "Well, I just spent thousands of dollars on it, so it's staying. Need to look good for our wedding," he said, kissing your hair. "Besides, Jake has been acting weird, and everyone thinks he has a new girlfriend. I want to look better than him again so you can gloat to his girl next time we go to the beach."
You rolled your eyes so hard, Bradley had to laugh. "If Jake was seeing someone, I would know about it."
Bradley narrowed his eyes. "How?"
"Because we have girl talk all the time," you said as you nestled against his neck and rubbed your hand on his belly.
"You and Jake... have girl talk?"
"Yeah, he tells me stuff that happens and I let him know how he fucked up. I'd like to say I'm his guru," you said seriously, making Bradley laugh.
"Well he certainly needs one. Help me put the last part together so we can go to bed," he said with a yawn.
When he stepped back and inspected it, everything looked perfect. And when he started using it the following day, he was happy with his purchase. In fact, he ended up in the garage for an hour every night after he finished cleaning the kitchen from your dinner preparations.
He'd been listening to the gym playlist you made for him and really getting back into the groove of things. His arm was giving him no pain now, and he was working himself slowly up to heavier weights.
"Looking sexy, Roo," you told him when you poked your head in, raking your gaze over his body. "All hot and sweaty."
Bradley sat up on the bench and patted his thigh with his gloved hand. "Wanna join me while I take a little break," he asked you innocently.
Your lips parted and your nostrils flared, and Bradley was curious about what you would do. You were supposed to be going out for drinks with your colleagues and your boss to celebrate Bickel's upcoming promotion. But he knew you hated being late to anything work related, even a happy hour.
Bradley watched you hesitate, your hands grasping the fabric of your dress where it sat against your thighs. "No!" you said suddenly. "I know how you are, and you do this to me all the time!"
"Do what?" he asked, cocking his head like he had no idea what you were talking about.
You sighed. "You make me late for everything, Bradley. Flaunting your appeal right in front of me. But not today, sir!" you said, spinning on your heel. A few minutes later, he heard your car start, and he returned to his workout with a big grin.
--------------------------------
Bradley checked himself in the bathroom mirror before he pulled on an old tee shirt for working out. Just a week later, and he was already feeling better. He jogged through the house and let Tramp out into the back yard as he headed for the garage. He could probably squeeze a quick workout in before he needed to shower to leave for the airport.
He turned on his playlist and got to work, singing along to everything and completely losing track of time.
"Bradley! I thought you would be in the shower by now!" you said when you strolled into the garage.
He set his barbell down and turned to face you. "What time is it?"
"Their flight lands in an hour," you told him, strolling closer. You were wearing one of those romper things he both loved and hated. They looked cute, but they were annoying to take off.
He licked his lips, tasting his own sweat there, and when you got close enough he reached out and grabbed your hand. "We've got time," he said, his voice deep and raspy.
"Roo," you cautioned, pressing your lips together, but he was already pulling you down to sit on his thigh where he was straddling the bench. "You look good," you whispered, and he grabbed your chin, kissing you hard.
"Do I?" he asked between kisses.
"Mmhmm," you hummed. But you were already moaning softly, turning to face him a little more and running your hands up and down his sweaty biceps. He watched you pull away from his mouth, your tongue darting out to taste the sweat that trickled down his cheek.
Bradley could feel his balls tighten as you pulled your tongue back into your mouth before licking your lips. "You always look good," you added, pulling his shirt off and running your fingers along his flat tummy while you kissed and licked his neck.
After he made sure all of the weights were locked in place, he turned back to you, tipping you down until you were laying on your back on the bench one leg over each side. "You always look perfect," he whispered, unbuttoning your romper and guiding it carefully down your body, watching you lift your hips so he could remove it. You had skipped a bra, something he was wild about, and he hummed against your skin as he kissed your breasts.
"I wasn't kidding though," you gasped. "I liked your little belly. The precursor to the dad bod looked hot on you."
Bradley wrenched your underwear off and planted kiss after kiss on your pussy as he eased his gym shorts and boxer briefs just low enough to get his dick free. The bench was narrow, and there wasn't a lot of room to work with, but he managed to get himself in a good position to slip into your wet slit.
"Oh," you gasped, reaching for his shoulders as he leaned over you.
"Listen, Baby Girl. Whenever you wanna make me a daddy, you just let me know," he told you, moving in a steady rhythm inside you as he planted his hands on your hips for leverage. "I'll give up the abs to spend my time changing diapers instead."
"Oh!" you whined louder, biting your lip. Bradley leaned down to kiss you, and he watched a drop of his sweat land next to your mouth. He was mesmerized by your tongue darting out to taste it.
"Oh fuck, Sweetheart. I'm ready to be a daddy when you want me to be," he promised running his thumbs in soft circles along your pelvic bones as he fucked you a little harder.
"You're already my Daddy," you whispered, and Bradley thought his brain must have shut down.
His movements came stuttering to a halt just as you started whining for more. And when you looked up at him, your eyes absolutely pleading for him to keep going, you once again whispered, "Daddy?"
Bradley slowly withdrew his dick and slammed himself back into you, never taking his eyes off yours. "Oh!" you gasped. "So you like it when I call you that?"
"Say it again," he growled loudly, fucking into you so hard, the bench moved a few inches across the floor as your tits bounced wildly. He watched your eyes roll back as you moaned Daddy a little louder.
"Don't stop," he demanded, giving you everything he had left.
"I won't, Daddy," you cried out.
Bradley had no idea he would like this so much, but in fact, he fucking loved it. Now he was grabbing your waist so hard, he saw tears in your eyes as you chanted, "DAD-DY! DAD-DY! DAD-DY!" Each syllable you moaned matched perfectly with each thrust he landed.
He came so hard, his teeth were chattering. You were whimpering beneath him, completely disheveled with smeared makeup as you whined and squeezed every drop from his cock. Bradley withdrew himself from you and finger fucked his cum back inside. He leaned over you, teasing your swollen clit and working his semen into you until you were literally crying.
Then he kissed your tears away, his fingers still rammed deep inside your pussy. "Daddy loves you," he promised, as you tried to catch your breath. "You're Daddy's Baby Girl."
-----------------------------------
Bradley drove the Bronco to the San Diego International Airport with an enormous smile on his face. You had your left hand laced with his right, and he was slowly spinning your engagement ring around your finger while he drove. You had your head resting against his bicep while you selected songs from one of your playlists.
His enormous smile still remained as he parked and helped you out, walking you to the terminal with his arm wrapped around your waist. Your romper was a wrinkly mess, and you still had a small smudge of mascara below your eye, and he knew your pussy was filled with his cum. He fucking loved you.
Sex in the garage had made you late, and your parents were already waiting next to the baggage carousel when the two of you arrived.
"Oh, honey! Show me your ring!" your mom called as soon as she saw you. Bradley let you out of his grasp as you went to hug them both, and he smiled, because he knew how lucky you were to have both parents here.
Then he almost choked as he heard you greet them, "Mom! Daddy! I missed you."
Bradley shook hands with your father, but he was barely able to make eye contact with him. This was going to be a very long weekend.
------------------------------
Oh, Baby Girl, he loved that so much! Well, stay tuned for A Love You Don't Find Everyday...there will be more of Baby Girl and Daddy Roo and their next adventure!

just found out that i need hip surgery, and i was wondering if you could write something with rooster x hangman x reader and them taking care of reader? including spending all day making her feel good after surgery so she can get her mind off of the pain ☺️
I’m sorry you’re having surgery! I hope your recovery goes well! There’s a little blurb for you below 👇🏻
“Are you trying to hit every pothole?” Bradley asks from the backseat beside you with a smack to the back of his head.
“I’m doing my best here, Roo,” he huffs, turning to glance back and briefly meeting your glazed eyes. “You okay there, sweetheart?”
“‘m fine,” you mumble, feeling out of it from the post-op drugs, “can’t feel a thing right now.”
“Good,” Bradley murmurs, kissing the top of your head, “the surgeon said the nerve block should last between 12-16 hours.”
“Mhmm,” you reply as you nod off.
They argue about the best way to get you into the house, bicker about the placement of the pillows once you’re in bed, and you fear they’re going to throw punches over who gets to rub your back first.
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
“Hey,” Jake tilts your chin up to wipe your tears as he helps you sit on the toilet once you wake up with a full bladder, “what’s wrong? Are you in pain?
“No,” you reply, sniffing, “this is so humiliating. I can’t even sit to pee by myself.”
He looks confused, “I’ve seen every part of you hundreds of times. It’s not a big deal. For better or worse, in sickness and in health, right?”
“You didn’t sign up for this though,” you reply, “and we’re not married.”
“Yet,” he says under his breath as he closes the bathroom door to give you some privacy.
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
“Stop,” Bradley says, holding Jake back by the bicep, “the doc said physical therapy is the best thing for her recovery.”
“But he’s hurting her,” Jake replies, “and look! He’s touching her ass!”
“That’s her hip. She had hip surgery. The therapist is going to work on her hip,” Bradley replies, rolling his eyes, “beside, you never complain when I touch her.”
“That’s different and you know it,” Jake grumbles, sitting back in his chair and folding his arms over his chest with a frown, “and of course he’s hot. It’s not fair that he gets to touch her and we can’t.”
“It’s only a few more weeks,” Bradley says, setting his big hand on Jake’s knee, “besides, she never said we can’t touch.”
“I know,” Jake murmurs, eyes heating as Bradley moves his hand higher and squeezes, “it’s not fair to her though.”
“Guaranteed she won’t mind,” Bradley replies lowly, “we’ll hand her the vibrator and let her watch.”

Till Death?
Pairing: Rooster x Reader, Hangman x Reader
Warnings: Major Character Death, language, PTSD, Physical and Domestic violence, pregnancy loss, Minors DNI. 18+
Previous Part
Next Part
...........................................
Part 4
You sat in the bathtub with your knees pulled up to your chest. The water around you was starting to turn cold, bubbles long dissipated, but you didn't care. You were numb. You had been this way for the past six weeks.
Six weeks. It had been six weeks since your fight with Rooster and Jake. Six weeks since Rooster's "lover" had shown up on your doorstep. Six weeks since your fight with Jake, where he had threatened to take your children from you. Six weeks since your crash and six weeks since you'd lost your child. A son that you would never get to meet. A brother that Nick would never know.
You hated Jake. It was his fault. You had gone to him looking for comfort, and instead, he chose to break your heart. He was the reason you were so empty inside.
Part of you hated Bradley, too. His hypocrisy cut you deeply, but he had been there for you. Well, been there as much as you would let him in. It's not that Jake wasn't trying. No, he had been persistent. But you could stand him. You couldn't bear the thought of looking at him.
He couldn't even see you in the hospital because he was too afraid to face you. Rooster had to be the one to tell you. The one to hold you when you mourned.
Bradley came in and helped you out of the tub. You were almost ready to graduate from physical therapy, but you still had a lot to work through with your therapist on a mental level.
After you were dressed and ready for bed, you went to read Nick a bedtime story. You held him until he fell asleep. You couldn't believe how fast he was growing up. He would be two in a few months. Which reminded you that you needed to start planning a birthday party for him.
You shuttered at the thought of it, thinking back to the fiasco that was his first birthday.
After he was asleep, you joined Rooster in bed. He pulled you close to him, tucking you under his chin. Something you had come to let him do after everything. You sigh before drifting into a dreamless sleep.
By the time Nick's second birthday rolled around, you were on better terms with Jake. You were friends, but you would never be back to the way it was. In public, it seemed that he and Rooster had settled their differences, but in private, it was always a competition between the two of them.
Their little back and forth drove you nuts, especially when it came to Nick. There had been many times when you would have to break up arguments between the two of them. Both of them were trying to be his father. Jake would always bring up that Rooster missed the first year of his life, and Rooster would counter that he was there now.
You were getting sick of it. The worst of it came, though, when Jake had once again brought up Rooster's absence, and Rooster had countered with quote, "At least I did kill my son." That ending with both of them having black eyes, you kicking Jake out of your house, and Rooster sleeping in the guest room for a week. Sometimes, it felt like you had three children instead of two.
Thankfully, you had great friends. One night, you were having girl talk with Phoenix and Bob. Both of them couldn't believe how well you were handling everything. "If I were you, I'd throw both of them away." Bob remarked, taking a sip of his wine.
"Bobby, I'd be lying if I told you I hadn't thought of packing up and taking Nick and just leaving and taking some time to find myself. I just get so aggravated with both of them. It's been a year, and I just wish they would grow up!" You confessed. Bob and Phoenix looked at you with sympathy.
"Please don't tell them I said that." You asked them. They both swore to keep your secret.
Moving on from them, you continued to go through the motions of life, and then a bomb was dropped.
Rooster was being deployed for a two month long mission. His first since returning. On the one hand, you were thankful for some space. But on the other, you were worried about him, because you cared about him.
Later, you discovered that he, Payback, Fanboy, and Coyote would all be on the mission. Phoenix, Bob, and Jake were not a part of it. It made you happy to know that you would have some of your support group with you. But you also worried about how you and Jake would interact with each other.
Soon, the day you were dreading came. It was a Thursday evening, and Rooster was shipping out early Friday morning. Everyone on the mission had been ordered to stay in the barracks. He had been training all day, and you had brought Nick with you to see him off. You were paitenly waiting your turn to come onto base.
When it was your turn, you handed the attending officer your ID. Only, he didn't raise the gate or give it back to you.
"Is there a problem?" You asked him.
"Ma'am, when I scanned your ID, it says it's invalid." He explained.
"I'm sorry, what? How is that possible?" You asked.
"It says you don't have a sponsor." He told you.
"What do you mean? I'm married to Lieutenant Commander Bradshaw. He's my sponsor." You told him, voice pitching up with agitation.
"I'm not sure, ma'am. I'm just looking at what the computer is telling me. Is there any way you can call him to come down here, and we can take this to get cleared up?" He said.
You huffed and dialed Rooster, but you figured he was probably flying or in a briefing. Finally, after five minutes of trying and several angry people later, you broke down and called Jake. He immediately came to help you get on base.
After explaining the situation to him, he was able to get you and Rooster an appointment to get your ID straightened out. The only downside to this was that he had to stay with you since you were his "guest"
Over an hour later, the three of you plus Nick were crammed in an office trying to get to the bottom of the issues.
"Well, it seems that the main cause of the issue is that you are Lieutenant Commander Bradshaw are technically no longer legally married." The woman working with you explains.
"What?" You all shout in unison.
"Well, there are three ways for a marriage to end. Annulment, divorce, or death. So, when Rooster was declared legally deceased, that meant legally, your marriage was over." She explained
"But, I'm very much alive ma'am so wouldn't that, I don't know, cancel it out?" Rooster asks.
"You would think, but unfortunately, no. The law is a very strange thing." She continues.
"But I haven't had any issues before! Why is all this happening now?" You huff out.
"Well, it takes time for everything to process, and it finally caught up with our system. I know it's awful." She tells you.
"So if we aren't married anymore, what does that mean for me?" You press her.
"Well, you'd lose your benefits, unfortunately." She states.
"My health insurance, my home? What about my son?" You're on the verge of tears.
"Your son would still have his. Rooster's situation doesn't affect him as much as it does, you dear." The woman is trying to be helpful. You know she is just doing her job, but you really don't like her right now.
"Well, what are we supposed to do?" You yell at her.
You immediately feel bad for doing so. This isn't her fault. "I'm sorry ma'am, I didn't mean to yell. I'm just—frustrated." You sigh and sink back into the chair. Rooster strokes your hand while Jake is keeping Nick occupied.
Jake feels bad for you. This really isn't fair. But at the same time, he feels almost happy—hopeful maybe, that you and Rooster technically aren't married. Maybe he could still have a chance.
"Well, the two of you could always get married again. It would solve the issue." The woman tells you.
"How are we supposed to do that before he gets deployed?" You asks her.
"Well, we could call a Chaplin, and they could marry you today." The woman says confidentiality.
"Ma'am, there's only one problem with that, it's 5:30pm, city hall is closed, we can't get a marriage license." Rooster tells her.
"The two of you could go first thing in the morning. I can help you make an appointment online right now." She tells you, trying to be helpful.
"That won't work either. Rooster is being deployed tomorrow morning at six. He will be gone for two months. We can't— I can't go that long without my benefits and my ID. Especially without our separation pay. How am I supposed to take care of my son?" You finally break down crying. All of the stress from everything you've gone through, finally catching up with you.
Rooster tries to soothe you. Nick leaps from Jake's lap to come hug you. The woman hands you some tissues and tries to apologize.
It takes you a few minutes to compose yourself.
"Well, I can always check and see if we can make an exception for your special circumstance." She says furiously typing on her computer.
You thank her, but you know all of her efforts are in vain. You could always ask Penny for a job, and if you really had to, you could stay with your parents for a few weeks. You sighed. You felt like the world was against you once again. Rooster continued to talk with the woman as they tried to find a solution.
You were lost in your thoughts when you felt one of Jake's hands come rest on your shoulder.
"I think I have an idea. Something that might be able to solve the problem for now." He said. You, Rooster, and the ID specialist all looked at him with curious eyes.
"I'm not going on this deployment." Jake began.
"So, Honey, what if you married me."
Alright loves, I thought I would give you a break from the super crazy trauma. I know I've been putting you through the wringer with this one. Just when we thought things had settled down, boom, another wrench in the plan. I will say I have about two more parts and an epilouge planned for this. I hope you enjoyed this chapter. As always, likes are great, but comments and reblogs are golden!

In The Mood For Chaos
"He knew her in a way no one else ever could."
“You corrupted her soul, what else did you expect”
🍒 Previous Chapter | Next Chapter | Callsign Cherry Masterlist
🍒 Pairing: Jake 'Hangman' Seresin x Y/N 'Cherry' Bishop, Bradley 'Rooster' Bradshaw x Y/n 'Cherry' Bishop
🍒 Word Count: 7.3k
🍒 Warnings: Parental death, angst, POW and very sensitive topics, Bradley... idk what he's doing today lol, swearing, breach of trust, loss of friendship (and love...), protective Jake, protective Bob, mourning, a lot of crying, drinking, dark headspace
🍒 A/n: I would like to note that I know how sensitive this topic is and I want to caution anyone that is reading this. I could never know or capture all of the feelings that families go through, and if you have been through this situation or lost anyone while they were in the military, I'm sending you my deepest condolences and am sending you all the love.
🍒 A/n pt 2: I just wrote this in the last five hours and cried a lot. It wasn't supposed to be an angsty story, but we've got multi-layered characters here.
🍒 Library (Follow for updates! I no longer have a taglist.)
Your chest heaves as the sweat drips between the swell of your breasts, and the sound of your shoes hitting the packed sand keeps a steady tempo for you to run to. The sound of waves crashing barely reaches your ears, as you push yourself harder. You catch sight of the sun starting to peak up over the horizon, which causes you to check your watch.
4:45
4 miles in 45 minutes wasn’t horrible, but it was nowhere close to your best. You had woken up at 3, drenched in sweat and gasping for air. It was the same reaction every time you came back to San Diego, maybe it was how abruptly your grandparents took you away, maybe it was a visceral reaction that you had no control over, or maybe you were still that broken little girl.
It was most likely the latter, though you don’t allow the thought to float around long in your head. It’s how you had ended up running, any way to get away from the reality of the situation. Quiet literally running away from your problems.
The bay curves around, low tide with an expanse of sand that led right up to the house you rented. Your eyes cast across the bay and find the small white house, placed perfectly on the beach and close to the base, with a small dock off the back that connects directly to the harbor.
You only let yourself look at it momentarily as the sunrise lights up the expanse of sand, before focusing back on the path in front of you. A harsh breath pushes from your chest as you break out into a sprint, a gasp toeing the line of a cry. Your chest burns and you relish in the pain, anything to take away how your heart hurts.
You reach the pavement of the street that’s a straight stretch to the bungalow, 1 more mile. You had been pacing yourself, but as memories flash across your mind you could care less. You needed, to feel something that was physical pain, to prove you were still breathing. A sharp ache settles in your side, but you can see the front porch from a distance and so you push harder.
A grimace crosses your face as a metallic taste settles in the back of your mouth, and your chest aches, but you can’t stop not when you were so close. Another gasp releases from your chest and causes you to push that final step more.
You don’t make it to the door, the moment your feet touch the grass, you collapse. Your chest heaves in pain and have to spit out the mucus coating your throat. Though the tint of red proves that it was more blood than spit. You roll on your back as your gasps, turn into silent sobs.
Your body aches and screams at you for your reckless behavior, though you settle in the pain. Letting it pull you down and consume you completely. Your therapist had once told you that pushing this hard, was a form of self-harm. You stopped seeing her after that appointment, it wasn’t that you couldn’t come to terms with your trauma. It was the fact that it was the only thing, other than flying, that could clear your mind.
Besides, it wasn’t the worst thing that you could do.
No, you’d gone down that road while in high school. Jake was the only one that knew just how far things had gone. As much as you despised him now, for a long time he was your only reason to keep breathing.
...
You wipe the steam from the mirror, before towel drying out your hair. The sound of a door closing is followed by a knock on the door.
“Hold on Bobby. Your coffee is in the kitchen too.”
You hear a small hum in reply, and you laugh lightly. Bob was never a morning person and in the last two weeks, you had made sure that you had his coffee ready before he got out of bed. It’s not that you liked waking up early, but more so that sleep escaped you regularly.
You grab the oversized tee shirt from the counter, before slipping it on your frame. For going shorts, the old Texas longhorn’s shirt covered enough and it wasn’t as if didn’t Bob hadn’t already seen everything. One of the perks of living with each other for 4 years, it had become such a regular occurrence that it no longer phased either of you. You were quite positive that you could walk around naked, and the only thing Bobby would comment on would be the set of tan lines that adorned your skin over the past two weeks.
You slip out of the bathroom and head toward the kitchen, wanting to make sure that he had indeed found his coffee, but also that he didn’t steal yours. You almost laugh at the sight of his half-naked form leaning over the kitchen table, while keeping his coffee tucked in close.
Though the cup of coffee sitting opposite of him, has you smiling as you slip into the seat across from him. You slip your cup silently waiting for Bobby to at least get half the cup in his system before you try and hold a conversation. You glance at the oven, it was only 6:30 and you didn’t have to be on base until 8 and the drive was only 15 minutes. Your eyes fall back to Bob as an empty cup now sits between the two of you. You snicker as he rakes a hand threw his hair, it causes his baby blues to settle on you.
“It’s Saturday tomorrow, Bobby. Two whole days for you to sleep in.”
“Yeah, as long as you don’t wake me up.” His tone is teasing though your smile falls into a frown.
“I didn’t mean to wake you; it’s just being back here.”
Your words have his sleep-deprived brain clearing and the apology is already sitting at the tip of his tongue. Though you stop him before he has the chance, by giving his hand a small squeeze. His hand settles in yours and gives you a squeeze in return. You had lost so many people throughout your life and couldn’t have been more thankful that you had him.
The pair of you sit in silence, enjoying the quiet morning before the chaos of your everyday life commences. The past two weeks had been relatively calm, other than the sublet jabs that Rooster and Hangman like to throw at you. It was funny, and it only got worse as you stayed slightly ahead of them in all of the exercises. It had gotten to the point that you were just taunting them; dogfights were your favorite. Maverick had switched to having someone from the class be the enemy target and somehow.... by some luck unbeknownst to you, the three of you always ended up in the air together.
The three of you had kept the jabs surface level, nothing digging too deep that would actually cause damage. You weren’t willing to risk losing your place on the detachment or let some feud put anyone else in the squadron at risk.
Your eyes shift back to Bobby as he rises from his chair and takes both of your cups to the sink. His hands settle on your shoulders as he stands behind you and places a kiss on the top of your head.
“You don’t have to go through it alone, Cher.”
Your hand reaches up to clasp one of his hands, giving it a squeeze and a small kiss. While Bobby knew everything, it didn’t make actually talking about it any easier.
“Thanks, B.”
The nickname slips from your lips and causes Bob's hands to tighten, as a full laugh falls from his lips. You rarely called him B, and when you did it was used to break the tension in the air. That first night that the pair of you tried to see if you could be anything more, you had made a point that you wouldn’t be moaning Robert or Bob. So, B became the given name, and well... it only landed you two in a fit of laughter. It was your own personal inside joke.
...
Your eyes scan the hanger as you and Bob make your way to your seats, though as your eyes settle on a familiar face a massive grin appears on your lips. Bob had already made it to your seats, and you give his shoulder a gentle squeeze to get his attention from Phoenix.
You nod to the front of the hanger, toward the group of older gentlemen talking before the day starts. His eyes find the dark head of hair that had been missing for the last two weeks and gives you an understanding smile, before pushing your hip forward lightly.
Your boots echo through the hanger, and you can feel the different sets of eyes find your passing figure, though you pay them no mind. You come to a stop just behind the three men, waiting for Maverick to finish his sentence. You see Warlock’s shift to see you and give you a small smile, which makes your own smile grow as their conversation ends.
“Admiral.” Your tone is steady as you say it, and you quickly wipe the smile from your face as he turns.
“Lieutenant.”
His face remains serious as the pair of you stare at one another. You can hear the rest of the pilots behind you quietly talking about the pair of you, though you pay them no mind. Slowly the stern look turns into a full smile, though yours stays in place waiting.
“Hey, kid.”
The nickname makes a full smile break across your lips and for a moment you’re a little girl again. His arms reach out to hug you, though you’re already throwing yourself into his arms and grasping on like you were worried he might slip away.
“Hi, Uncle Beau.”
Your throat catches as you say it and cause Cyclone’s arms to tighten around you before letting go. The both of you pull back and give each other one last smile, before falling back into line. You nod at the other two men who hadn’t moved, each of them giving you a small smile. You give the three of them one last smile, your heart already finding some form of peace over the fact of having your godfather close.
Your smile falls as you turn and make direct eye contact with Hangman and Rooster, before brushing passed them to go sit with Bobby.
“Lieutenant Bishop,” Cyclone's voice echoes through the hanger and causes you to turn back around. “Come see me later, we’ve got a few things to talk about. One of them being Lieutenant Commander Adams.”
Your eyes widen slightly, the man might have only been your godfather, but he sure took the job of vexing any of your “friends” seriously. You can hear Bob laugh to the side of you and your arm punches out to hit him on the shoulder.
“Of course, Admiral.”
You sink down into the seat next to Bob who is still snickering beside you, “You think it’s about you and Adams in that f-18? What were you doing again?” Your face blanches slightly, though your eyes remain trained on the whiteboard. “Going over how well you could grip the yoke?”
You slowly turn to Bob, who has a cheeky smile taunting you. Your eyes find Payback, Fanboy, and Phoenix who are practically leaning over the back of your and Bob's chairs to hear. Each of them looks at you while trying not to smile, which they are failing phenomenally at.
“Fuck you, Robert.”
Your tone is anything but harsh, and a small chuckle breaks from your chest as you rest back in your chair.
...
Once again you had been chosen to be the enemy target for the dynamic idiot duo, by now you were sure that Maverick was doing it as a way of “therapy” for the three of you. The two of them stop at their own F-18s as you head farther down the tarmac, though Rooster’s voice yelling at you has you turning around to see what it was now that he was bitching at now.
“What do I have to do to get on the Cherry Popping List, Cherry?”
You almost let the words go over your head, though the small snicker at the in pulls you back. The comment and action not only affect you though, as you watch Jake tense up and glare at his wingman. If looks could kill, Rooster would be six feet under.
“Sorry, I’m not one to lower my standards.” A smile crosses your lips that has Rooster standing straighter. “Especially for pilots that can’t get into the Academy on the first go.”
You don’t wait to see his reaction, already knowing that Maverick holding his papers was a sore subject. You’d heard the rumor when the three of you were in the Academy, though hadn’t realized it was true until you heard Maverick and Rooster arguing last week.
It doesn’t take long for the three of you to get in the air, as you hear the pair chattering across the coms. You stay low level, just above the hard deck, waiting for them to get restless.
Rooster's voice cuts across the frequency again, “So Hangman, tell me, was she any good? Figure asking from someone with first-hand experience is better than nothing.”
Rooster's laugh echoes across the radio, and for the minute you give them, before you're officially pissed, Jake doesn’t say anything. You glance up and see their pair of F-18s right above you before you pop up. They’re separated just enough, and they have no clue that you’re just under them, soon to be on top.
“You should worry about your own sex life Rooster; I’ve heard quite a few underwhelming reviews.”
The sentence slips off your lips, though before either of them can reply you shoot up through the pair. Sending each of them off to the side in a barrel roll and now it’s your laugh that echoes across the coms.
“What the fuck was that.” Jake’s voice rings out and breaks up the laughing fit you were having due to them both gasping.
“It’s called, I’m about to kick your ass and win 50 bucks from Coyote.” They both go silent trying to figure out what you mean. You knew that the rest of the squad would be listening to the coms, specifically Javy. “Ain’t that right Javy? This will make ten-”
You're cut off before you can finish, “We’ve gotten tone on you six times.”
You roll your eyes at Rooster, as you bring the nose around and find the two of them.
“No, you’re right Rooster. You’ve done such a good job of coming in second, too bad there’s only one winner.”
You go silent after that, paying neither of them any mind. You need to focus and not worry about the birdbrains; you also knew that your silence unnerved them. Just another perk. It doesn’t take long for you to get behind the pair, though it’s Rooster who you have your eyes on.
He had constantly been trying to piss you off. While Jake made comments, dumb snappy comments, Rooster was like a lover scorned and picked at every little thing he could.
He’d almost brought up your dad the other day, after seeing a picture of your father and Cyclone standing side by side on a carrier. Both of them had been deployed and it was one that you personally had tucked away at home.
Though just as the words “Your father” slipped passed Rooster's lips, Hangman had thrown him a glare that silenced the man. For a minute you saw Jake, not Hangman, though the flash of his green eyes to you was quickly covered up and Jake was gone again.
You didn’t know if you could ever forgive either of them, you had never really thought about it until now, with every look that Jake gave you, you questioned yourself. Could you ever risk opening up like that again, giving someone that much power over you.
Sure, Bobby knew everything, though the “power” he had over you was different than Jake did. Jake held a power over you that terrified you, your bond ran deep and though it was broken, you had never been able you get rid of it wholly.
The pair of them split and you immediately follow Rooster, he’s just in front of you and with every second you’re gaining on him. You’d need to get tone soon; Hangman would be circling back around any moment and on your ass.
“Hey, Chicken” Your words cut through the radio before tone rings out alerting everyone. “Your dead.”
You hear Rooster swearing over the coms, though you're too focused on finding Hangman.
“Where’d you go Hangy.” Your voice is condensing and as it slips over your lips, you level out to find him directly in front of you. The pair of you heading directly for the other.
“Hey, Cher” His laugh has you gritting your teeth, though neither of you hit the button to get tone, even though you’re directly in line.
“You really wanna do this?”
“I missed our games, sweetheart.”
Every second brings you closer, and you can hear chatter echoing through the radio from the rest of the dagger squad.
“You should know better than to play this game, Jake.” The name slips out, though you don’t even realize you’ve said it.
“Just break off Cher, easy as that.”
“Then you do it.”
“Y/n Marie Bishop,” Bob's voice cuts through and gains your attention. “break off. Cher, you don’t need to do this.”
You don’t reply and Jake’s right in front of you now. He doesn’t say anything either and you silently wonder if still remembers how the pair of you played it in the Academy before he ruined everything. You’d gotten caught a couple times and had your fair share of ass chewings. Though if there was anything Jake was good at, was sweet talk his way out of anything. Even when a higher-up was threatening to ground you.
There’s a round of voices echoing through the coms, even Rooster freaking out slightly. Though they fall silent to your ears as one voice echoes out.
“Y/n” Your name falls from his lips so gently that it makes your heart ache. The last syllable of your name passes Jake’s lips and you both break hard right, just barely slipping passed the other.
You’re not sure how to feel knowing that Jake had remembered; did it mean anything or was it just a random fact he hadn’t forgotten?
...
Before you know it you're back on the tarmac, slipping your helmet off and tying your flight suit around your waist. The afternoon heat had become unbearable, and your sweat had made your damn shirt cling to you like a second skin.
You see Hangman and Rooster both climbing from their jets, chatting back and forth, though you can’t hear what they’re saying. Hangman catches your eye, though doesn’t say anything. Maybe he would have if the rest of the squadron wasn’t making their way across the tarmac, Bobby leading them as his lethal gaze settles on you, not wavering in the slightest.
You step toward Bobby, as his eyes asses your sweating form. His hands settle on your shoulders, and you give him a tiny smile, knowing that you were about to get your ass chewed.
“You’re, okay?” The question doesn’t surprise you; Bob had always made your health and safety his first priority when it came to ripping you a new one.
“Yes, Bobby. In one piece, and ready for the Floyd ‘I’m disappointed in you’ speech.”
The answer causes him to laugh, before pulling you in for a hug. A quiet whisper of comfort is muttered against your shoulder and has you tightening your hold before pulling away.
By now the rest of the group, as well as Rooster and Hangman had formed around the pair of you. Your eyes move around the group and each of them looks at you in stunned but apprehensive silence.
“Bob might not be ripping into you, but I sure as hell don’t wanna be there for when Cyclone gets ahold of you.” Fanboy’s comment has a smile breaking across your lips, as you pluck your sunglasses from Bob’s shirt pocket. Bobby clicks his teeth before a small chuckle pushes pasted his lips as he shakes his head at you. Your eyes leave Bob and you give the rest of the squad an award-winning smile.
“You would be surprised just how good I can sweet talk someone,” You move towards Fanboy, and pat his chest gently as you pass. “Especially when it comes to my godfather.” The words are thrown over your shoulder, though you keep walking as a round of questions breaks out.
“Seresin, let’s move it.”
Your tone is harsh, though has both you and Hangman questioning when he became Seresin to you again.
...
“What in the hell were the two of you dumbasses pulling out there?”
Cyclone paces behind the desk that both you and Jake stand at attention in front of. Though before you can answer, Jake speaks up.
“It was my idea, sir.” Both yours and Cyclone’s head whip to look at Jake in bewilderment. “I wanted to make a point that this mission was serious, that it is life or death.”
Cyclone hums though his eyes don’t leave your own, “and you thought playing chicken, with government property, was the proper motivation.”
A sharp nod comes from Jake while his eyes remain dialed in on the bookshelf behind Cyclone.
“First of all, even without hearing the audio from the coms, I would always know this was something Lieutenant Bishop orchestrated.” Cyclone’s eye glances at you, though you’re quick to move your center focal point to something behind him. “Secondly, don’t think that I forgot about the shit you both pulled in the Academy.”
Your eyes follow Cyclone’s gaze to Jake as he mutters that last word. By the way, Jake’s eyes widen slightly and the harsh tone of your godfather, you know that your flight habits are no longer the topic at hand. The silent stare-down between them would be unsettling, if you didn’t know how big of softies, they both were. The clearing of your throat has them snapping out of the daze.
“I’m not grounding you, not when the mission is so close.” A sigh you didn’t realize you were holding leaves your body, you had yet to be grounded in your career, and the thought honestly scared you. The closest you fell to your parents was in the sky. “But I promise you, if either of you pulls that shit again, I’ll ground you the second the mission is finished.”
While you knew that Cyclone was being a hard ass, was because it was his job. On base, he would always be Admiral before Uncle, though the flash of worry in his eyes tells you that it wasn’t his only reason.
“Lieutenant Seresin, you’re dismissed.” Jake glances at you as he leaves though your focus remains forward, silently trying to figure out just how much Cyclone knew about yours and Lieutenant Commander Adams’ agreement. The clicks behind you and the sight of your uncle sighing so heavily does nothing to ease your worrying mind. A nod of the head to the chair directly across from his own causes you to sit.
“What did Adams tell you about the mission?” Your head cocks slightly, this was defiantly not the direction you thought and prepared yourself for.
“Only that Jake and Bradshaw were going to be here.” There you go again, how had he in such a short amount of time, have you back to using his first and last name. You had stopped using them after everything and started only calling him Hangman. He hated when you called him by his callsign, always said it was too impersonal.
Your uncle’s silence paired with the tick in his jaw, causes your chest to tighten. He was never this serious when it was just the two of you, that wasn’t the type of relationship you had. The last time you remember seeing him like this was the day your grandparents took you back to Texas, while you bawled and clutched onto him and your Aunt Julie begging them to change your grandparents’ mind.
“Y/n, Sweetheart, we need to have a talk.” You quietly suck your teeth, and your eyes instantly land on the file Beau sides across his desk. The bright red letters spelling out classified aren’t what catches your attention, it’s the black letter under it, in such blocky letters ‘BISHOP’ glares back at you.
“Honey,” your eyes leave the smile, and the small tremble in your bottom lip, confirms to Cyclone that you have an idea where the conversation is happening. “you were so young when everything happened. I didn’t have the clearance to tell you, even if I wanted to.”
You force a harsh breath through your nose, silently begging for whoever controlled the universe to not break you absolutely with whatever lies with those pages.
“But with you getting placed on this mission, Commander Kazansky, and I both agreed that you should know. That you had a right to know.”
The words catch in your uncle’s throat and have your eyes flashing to him. You wish that you’d have stayed focused on the file because seeing the eyes of one of the strongest men you know lined with tears makes it all worse. Makes whatever you’re about to read more real.
“What part of the story wasn’t true? What’s it have to do with this mission?” you’re surprised that he can even hear you, with how quietly the words slipped passed your lips.
“We’ve been watching the location, where the Uranium plant is for a long time, honey. It wasn’t a plant back then, it was supposed to be some ragtag militia group that broke off Russia’s military.”
Your hands twist in your lap as you boot intently taps on the floor. You can’t bring yourself to grab the folder, too consumed with the voices bouncing around in your mind. They hadn’t told you much back then, just that it was supposed to be an in-and-out mission. Things went wrong, and they lost him. They’d given you minimal details, you were only seven and you’d never questioned what happened.
Because you knew what happened.
Didn’t you?
“We didn’t have the right intel and it wasn’t until we were right over them, that artillery that rivaled ours at the time, started going off.”
A harsh breath leaves your uncle as he turns and pulls a 5th of whiskey from a bottom drawer. The seal is still intact and the snap of it echoes threw your ears, as your eyes slightly blur in and out of focus. A glass is sat in front of you, though you can’t seem to make a move for it.
“Your dad’s plane went down in a clearing; it was the perfect spot. The safest crash site we could have asked for.”
The shake of your uncle’s hand as he downs the rest of his glass has your gaze, you’d never seen him so unkept. Beau Simpson was the top of the top, the United States Navy’s poster child for god’s sake.
“He was gonna be fine, we’d already called in e-vac.”
The shake of his voice as your eyes refocusing and the red-rimmed eye’s staring back at you aren’t one’s you’d ever seen before. Not in this capacity at least.
“They appeared out of nowhere,” your jaw clenches and it’s surprised your teeth haven’t cracked. “they had him out of his plane, before any of us to circle around and get a shot.”
Your body lurches forward slightly and it feels like all the air had been ripped from your chest and the ringing in your ear only gets louder as your uncle talks.
“We were able to bring him home, the week before your mom passed.”
You hadn’t had a panic attack since you were a teenager, though the way you gasp for breath as the words break from you. “That was three years later.”
How you ended up pacing is beyond you,
“don’–” your hands brace against the back of your chair as you rock back on your heels. “Don’t tell me that they had him for three years.”
“That they held him captive for three years before you could get him.”
Your legs fall out from under you and cause you to harshly crash to the floor. Your breath shutters, as you wrap your arms around your knees. Your eyes fall in and out of a hazy as flashbacks of his funeral filter through your mind. “He was alive for three more years, and you swept it under the rug. They had a funeral...”
Your eyes meet Cyclone’s as he watches you, and it breaks you even more. He was fully prepared for you to hate him. You can hold his gaze, instead, you find the folder that lies on the desk still. Without a second thought, you scramble up for it, you knew that whatever it was going to break you. But you had to know.
Cyclone's hand lands on it at the same time yours does, holding it firmly on the desk.
“Sweetheart, you know now. You don’t need to see; I shouldn’t have even gotten the folder out.”
“I need to. I need to see just exactly what I’m going up against, the reason that I’m going to fly this mission and kill every last one of them.”
Your throat is raw with pain, though the drip of hate that seeps from it echoes even after the words died out.
The folder slides from your uncle’s hold and you grasp it cowering back to the corner of the room settling against the wall. The file just sits in your lap, and your hands shake while they ghost over the top though you make no move to open it. Cyclone doesn’t move from his chair and by the time your fingers pry the file open, you don’t know how long you’ve been sitting in silence.
The top page is just logistics and a few photos of the landscape you’ve studied endlessly over the last two weeks. Even after 23 years much hadn’t changed, sure they had a runway and a couple more buildings now, but you and your father had studied the same location.
Your tears had stopped falling by now, the realization that your mother had only lived long enough to get buried with your dad settles in. She had been so numb and broken, but still holding it together for you. Nights that you cried yourself to sleep, yelling at the universe for taking him from you. And yet she knew.
She knew that he was somewhere, possibly dead, possibly captive...
Death would have been easier, clean-cut. Without the constant wondering.
Without the small piece of hope that you’re, she held until the very end.
The next page has your stomach turning, and your hands shaking as they ghost across the page. Tracing the fuzzy images, and even though your heart aches, you could feel that blank numb feeling settling in with each page you flip. It’s the last page that kills something within you, your body acting on its own accord as it starts to shake.
It was your father
the lacerations lining his back and chest
the caved in eye socket and broken jaw
the burns and carvings spread across every inch of skin
it was your dad
but the once bright blue eyes were dimmed
dead
he was dead
three years of mutilation
23 years later and now you finally know
but even still it didn’t change that he was gone.
And somehow it felt like a piece of you was too.
Your feet push up from the floor, though the shaking in your hands remains. Your foot sets are slow and careful as you place the folder back on your uncle’s desk. Though the last page remains in your hands, slightly crumped from the grip you have on it.
Those first years in Texas were hard, you missed your parents, but you knew they were together at peace. Now, there still together and at peace... but the truth tares into you in a way that their death hadn’t even been able to.
“Y/n, sweetheart?”
You can barely find the strength to lift your eyes, and the sight of heartbreak looking back at you is only worse. Your head shakes, though the words can’t seem to form. You knew that he would want you to talk about it, but you couldn’t. Not with so much more on the line with this mission. You could finish what your father started; you could do one last thing for him. You would let the pain consume you for the next two days, but when Monday came, you’d shut it down.
Your nose sniffles and your eyes ache. You were tired, so emotionally and physically tired. A knock at the door pulls Cyclone’s attention though your eyes stay settled on the folder. You hear the voice and while you would usually have some snip to say to him, you had nothing. The whiskey bottle sets on the edge of the desk and the hand gripping the god-forsaken page reaches out and grasps it. Your hand drifts off the side of the table, you can’t seem to find the strength to carry it and so it just hangs at your side.
You turn to find a silent Rooster staring at you, they had been talking but stopped at some point now both of them quietly watching you. Your eyes glance back to Cyclone and you can see that he wants to talk, to protest your leaving.
“Not today. Not tell I finish this fucking mission.” Your empty hand points at Cyclone, though your voice lacks your usual conviction.
You can hear him start to say your name, though before he can you sidestep passed Rooster and leave. Your shoulders brush and cause the pilot to turn and watch your disappearing figure. Rooster glances back to Cyclone, though he doesn’t meet Rooster's gaze. His eyes stay settled on the folder on the desk and just barely Rooster can make out your last name.
...
The sound of the Hard Deck door has Bob’s head snapping up in hopes to see you. Jake had shown up two hours ago and said that Cyclone kept you to talk. It didn’t seem like anything out of the normal, plus Cyclone had made the comment about Adams, Bob was sure that you both were just having a good catch-up and laugh.
Though the uneasy face of Rooster coming through the door gains his and everyone else’s attention. It’s a little busier tonight, but Rooster makes it through the crowd in record time and aims straight for Bob.
“Something happened.” The comment is aimed at Bob, though it gains the attention of the whole group and causes them to surround the pair.
“What are you talking about?” Bob was usually meek and mild around the group, though with you missing and Rooster now, his voice comes out hard and demanding.
“Cherry, Y/n.” The use of your name doesn’t go unnoticed and the sight of Rooster now racking a hand through his hair and pacing causes an uneasy feeling to settle over the group. Before Bob can reply, Hangman’s voice cuts in and if you’d have heard it, you would have known that it was Jake. At that moment he was your Jake again.
“Bradshaw, stop fucking pacing and talk.”
“I don’t know what happened. I had to talk to Cyclone about some paperwork, but when I got to his office Y/n was there. Just standing in the middle of the room, gripping onto some paper and not saying anything.” His pacing starts up again, though he keeps talking. “I was just going to ignore it; tell Cyclone I’d talk to him Monday. But the look in his eyes as he watched her, he was barely holding it together. Before I could leave Y/n grabbed the 5th of whiskey and went to leave, she was a shell, guys. Cyclone tried to stop her, and I don’t know what she meant, but I’d never heard her sound like that. Broken, completely vacant.”
“What the fuck did she say Rooster?” The curse word falls from Bob’s lip so naturally, it would call for some attention, though with the problem at hand, no one seemed to notice.
“She said ‘Not today. Not till I finish this fucking mission.’ The words were barely a whisper and then she was just gone. I caught sight of a file on Cyclone’s desk, was classified but it had Bishop blocked out across it.”
You and Bob had this location rule, that you would always keep it on for each in case something happened, and he had never been so thankful. He hears Hangman release a round of curse words as the group talk trying to figure out what to do.
The small dot that lights up Bob’s phone has him releasing a breath, though the location was on the edge of the water, and he didn’t have any idea where you would be around there.
“I’ve got her location, but I don’t ha–”
The phone is ripped from his hand by Jake and before Bob can say anything Jake shoves the phone back into Bob’s hand and turns to leave.
“You’re not going to see her, Hangman.” The comment halts Jake and causes him to slowly turn around and assess Bob. “You’ll just make it worse; you need to say here.”
Jake’s shoulders tense up and the five steps to Bob only take him two. The pair of them stand eye to eye and causes Javy to try and slip in between them.
“Floyd, don’t fucking test me right now.” Bob doesn’t falter at the words and instead steps that inch closer. “You might know a lot, but this, you don’t know fucking shit.”
Jake’s voice cracks slightly and Bob’s stance softens slightly.
“I know exactly where she’s at and I’ve got a pretty good idea of what it’s about. So, I’m gonna go and if you try and stop me, I’ll put you on your ass so fucking quick.”
“Thought she didn’t mean anything to you anymore?”
“She has and always will mean everything to me, Floyd. And right now, she isn’t Cherry. She’s the little ten-year-old that I hugged and held every day that first summer. That little girl needs me and I’ve fucked up a lot, but this. You would have to kill me, to stop me from helping Her.”
...
How you ended up back here, you’re not sure. Call it survival mode that took you back to your safe place. You hadn’t been here since you were fifteen, when you and Jake had flown in for your mother’s, and you guess your father’s, five years.
You’d stripped out of your flight suit after you finished 1/4th of the bottle, finding a pair of shorts in the back of your jeep. Then found your way out to the little cove, it was just off the trail you ran this morning and from it, you could watch the one place that should have been your forever home. But lost the glimmer and shine after they died.
You lift the bottle and the lightness of it has you looking at it in wonder of how you had already put over half the bottle away. Your toe’s dig deeper into the sand as you take another drink. The tears flow from your eyes freely and the burning sensation that should be in the back of your throat is missing.
The sound of feet walking across the slippery rock path, that’s slowly disappearing as the tide rises, gets your attention and you find the one face that you're surprised to see and yet not at all surprised. Jake was the only one you’d ever brought here, he was the only one you trusted enough once upon a time.
“Are you Hangman or Jake today?” Your eyes cloud over and cause you to look back out at the water as he stops just to the side of you. “Cause there’s only one of them that I’m gonna talk to.” You try to sound strong and sure of yourself, though the end breaks through with a small laughing cry.
“Hey, Darlin’.”
The name causes a sob to release from your chest and finally breaking down around the only person you’d ever let fully in. For this moment none of the bullshit matters, you’d need him. You needed your Jake, and he’d come.
His arms wrap around you as your chest heaves, and you can’t seem to catch your breath. Though the hand against the back of your head and the chest you rest against feels like home. He rocks you gently, whispering soothing words against the crown of your head, separated by a kiss every now and then.
Time seems to escape you, though you know it’s been a bit because the tide has risen, and yet Jake hasn’t let go of you once. Your breathing has finally slowed and matches his, grasping onto the one thing that has always grounded you. Even through the bullshit, the thought of Jake, not Hangman, but Jake always settled you.
“What happened, honey?”
Neither of you had talked, other than Jake’s quiet muttering, you had disconnected. You pull back from the warmth of his chest before your eyes then fall to the crinkled piece of paper sitting under the whisky bottle. You don’t make a move for it, you couldn’t look at it again. One of his arms slips from around you to grab the paper, and the small whimper that leaves your chest has Jake’s other hand tightening around you.
“I got you.” You cling to his shirt as another kiss is placed on the top of your head. The sudden tension that rips through Jake’s chest confirms that he’s finally looked and knows exactly who he’s looking at. Anyone could see the resemblance between you and your father, but Jake had come to know him on a deeper level. Through each picture, letter, and tearful night Jake knew him through your eyes. He knew what he meant to you.
Another shaky breath falls from your chest, at the thought of the image and Jake is quick to discard it. He leans back from you, to look at you, needing to see what was racing through your head. He lays a hand across your cheek and gently wipes the falling tears away.
“That was three years after his funeral.” He’d never seen you so broken, not even during the first years you lived in Texas. His brow creases in question and the words fall from your lips so vacantly. “They had him for three years, Jake. They... they... they”
The sentence doesn’t make it passed your lips, as another sob breaks from your chest. You fall back into his chest and the arms wrapped around you hold on to you a little tighter. You miss the shutter breath that matches your own, the harsh breath that shakes through his chest. The words try to break from your lips, but only quiet mutters bounce off of his chest.
“I know, darlin’.” You miss the tear that falls from him. “I’ve got you; I’m not going anywhere.”
You stay like that, curled up in Jake Serein’s lap. The home that you lost. And somehow found again.
He was your Jake again...

Hi! I'd like to submit "standing on your tip toes to reach your partner's lips" for Marry Me!
hi anon! I love this one so much!!
send me a physical intimacy prompt for any of my Dagger, Sword & Shield couples!
Romeo, oh Romeo
pairing: Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw x Mariella “M&M” Vertucci (fem!OC)
warnings: 18+ minors DNI, discussions of body image issues/insecurities, mentions of pregnancy/giving birth, mentions of smut but nothing explicit, this is set once they're already together, so many goddamn pet names, also you don't need to read Mar[r]y Me to read and understand this, but you should anyway
word count: 1.7k (will I ever write something short? the world may never know)
Mariella Vertucci has never been the smallest girl around. Growing up, she was always bigger than her classmates. The ones that got asked on Saturday night movie dates or who got to wear a cute boy’s jersey to class on Friday before a big game. The girls that got asked to prom by guys who wanted to go with them. Not by their mother’s best friend’s neighbor’s son, who got rejected by the cheerleader of his dreams and had to settle for some girl whose family owned a bakery.
But with age, maturity, a good therapist, and distance from her mother, she had grown to accept her body. It kept her alive and healthy. It allowed her to play with her nieces and nephews. It allowed her to excel at a job she loved. It allowed her to make food for the people she loved. It allowed her to love Bradley in every way he deserved to be loved. She accepted that she had always been bigger and probably always would be.
Then she found out she was pregnant.
With twins.
That she created with her gorgeous, hulking 6’3” husband.
And now, at six months pregnant, she looked like a VW bug turned upright. Large and in charge was the joke one of her technicians had made last week. At the time, she had laughed with everyone else. It was true; even with three months to go until birth, she was comically large and round.
But when she got home that night, the sweatpants she usually wore to make Friday night dinner no longer fit over her bump. Bradley had come home to her sitting on the bathroom floor in tears. He was two seconds from calling an ambulance when she explained what happened.
“I’m fat, Bradley. I can’t even wear my sweatpants anymore! They don’t fit over my stomach! I just feel so big and gross. I can’t stand this.”
“Oh, sweetheart.” He pulls her up, nudging her from the bathroom towards the bed sans pants. “I know it’s hard that your body is changing so much so quickly, but you are the furthest thing from gross. You are the most gorgeous woman I have ever seen, and you are so sexy. Baby belly or not. But believe me, the baby belly is doing things for me.”
She sniffles from her perch on the edge of their bed, watching him peel himself out of his khakis. “Really?”
“Baby doll, I can’t even begin to explain how sexy you look carrying our girls. It makes me want to get you pregnant all over again, even if that’s biologically impossible.” He gestures towards himself, and she glances down, finding him half-hard already. “See, just looking at you sitting there in your cute little panties and my t-shirt has got me going.”
“Bradley!” She squeaks when he tips her back, bending over her and pressing himself into her, hooking her legs over his hips. “What are you doi-”
He cuts her off with a deep kiss. “Gonna show you exactly how sexy you are, and then I’m gonna order you whatever you want for dinner. Gonna give you whatever you want, mama.”
An orgasm or two later, Bradley ordered pizza from their favorite shop, and the two of them enjoyed it in their underwear on the couch. The next day, he came home with three bags full of maternity clothes. After asking for recommendations from the mothers in their friend group, he had spent the morning scouring the town for clothes he knew his wife would like. He was thoroughly thanked, and Mary felt like herself again after doing a fashion show for him. Her wonderful husband oohing and ahhing over every new piece, even though he insisted it would be better if she just walked around without clothes on.
Bradley had been giving her extra compliments and love since then, helping her restore her confidence and remember the joy that she was growing inside her.
But all the confidence and reminders in the world couldn’t stop situations like this.
“M&M, please, this is for your safety. Pregnant people aren’t allowed to climb on ladders after the first trimester. If you want to look at the progress on the engine repair, we’ll pull the platform out.” Mika, her second in command, had been trying to bargain with her since their 9:30 meeting. It was now 11:45.
“That’s a stupid rule. I want to talk to whoever made that rule!” Mary’s frustration is severely undercut by her inability to fully cross her arms over her stomach.
“I believe that’s your rule, ma’am.” Lieutenant Johnson meekly interjects. Just a few months at NAS North Island, and he’s sufficiently afraid and in awe of the repair shop senior director, even if she’s a civilian. The stories of her standing up to admirals who questioned her knowledge and reaming out pilots who disrespected her authority were known through the entire aviator community. The rumor that she had at least three admirals who would take her side without a second thought was shared every time a new top gun class came through.
She whips around and stares at the younger man, who is barely making eye contact. “Fuck! Damn my past self for being so reasonable and smart about safety. Alright, pull out the platform; I want to get a look at the frame welds and see what’s going on there.”
Her technicians snap into action, and within a few minutes, the rolling platform is in place with the wheels locked. She’s just about to instruct her techs to climb up their ladders while she raises the platform when the lunch bell rings.
“Okay, everyone. That’s lunch, we’ll pick up right here in an hour, and then you guys are out on the tarmac with the Dagger Squad for the rest of the afternoon. So please make sure to apply sunscreen and fill your water bottles, I don’t need anyone passing out on me while I’m in meetings.”
“You want help down?”
“Nah, you head to lunch, Mika. I’m gonna pop up here real quick so I can get a good look before I meet with Cyclone this afternoon, maybe take some photos.”
“Okay, but please call me or someone if you need help.”
“I will, I will.” She presses the button to start lifting. “Oh, by the way! Marty definitely has a crush on you! You should unzip your coveralls some and see if he finally asks you out!”
The other woman rolls her eyes. “Goodbye, boss! Have a good lunch!”
Mary snickers as she pokes around the FA-18 engine, using her flashlight to look at the welds that everyone is concerned about. Jack had done a good job, and she was confident in his techniques, but she wasn’t sure this was the best route for the repair. Her mental list of people to reach out to for advice is interrupted by a familiar voice.
“But, soft! What light through yonder window breaks? It is the east, and Mary is the sun.”
She looks over the side to find her husband grinning up at her like a fool, his nose a bit red from morning training in the sun, and immediately hits the button to lower her down.
“O Bradley, Bradley, wherefore art thou Bradley? Deny thy father and refuse thy name. Or if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love. And I’ll no longer be a Vertucci.”
“You’re already not a Vertucci, baby doll.” He wiggles his eyebrows and flashes his ring at her, making her giggle and swoon at his ability to be equally romantic and ridiculous.
She rubs a hand over her bump. “Yeah, and you made sure that I’ll never want to change my name back, huh?”
“Never getting rid of me now, honey.” He moves up to the platform once it locks in position at the bottom, rubbing his hands over her thighs when she sits down to climb off. “Hi.”
“Hi, handsome. How was training?” She runs her hand through his curls, smiling at how quickly his eyes close to enjoy her nails scratching the back of his neck.
“It was hot, I got a little burnt.” He pouts, making puppy dog eyes at her. “A kiss would make it better.”
“Yeah? Does my big strong man need a little kiss to feel better?” She teases even as she leans down.
He’s just an inch too far, her belly hindering her ability to fully bend down, and he raises up to collect his healing kiss. He hums, pulling back as he feels her tongue brush his lips. “Baby, I would love to make out with you right now, but I don’t think I can take the trauma of Mav finding us again.”
Her face burns, remembering when her godfather-in-law found the two of them a few months ago. It was before they had announced the pregnancy and her hormones were going crazy, making her want to jump Bradley as often as possible. Including during their lunch break in her office. She’s still not sure whose face was redder during family dinner that weekend.
“I hate when you’re the logical one. Help me down.”
He helps her climb down the small step ladder and once she’s back on solid ground he pulls her in for another kiss. “That’s better. Having to go on my tiptoes to kiss you was kinda weird, never had to do that before.”
“What you’ve never kissed a tall, Amazon woman before?”
“No, the only goddess I’ve kissed is 5’5” according to her license.”
“Bradshaw! Stop flirting with your wife when I need to talk to her and go eat lunch.”
“Sorry, sir.” He grins at Cyclone, whose exasperated expression lets him he’s not in trouble, yet. “I’ll catch up with you later, honey. Let me know what you want for dinner.”
He takes a chance and presses a kiss to his favorite pair of lips before scurrying out of the repair shop, smiling when a roar of “Bradshaw!” follows him out.
His smile turns to laughter when he hears a faint, “Yes, Admiral? What can I do for you?” from his girl.
God, I love that woman.

Flashback: Bria was working out in the pool with her physical therapist. She had a huge smile on her face. Phoenix laughed because she was so happy! She was adorable! He and Linsey were visiting her for the afternoon. She was talking a lot more than she had been. There were a handful of words she could say. She repeated them over and over. Mama, Papa, Dada, yes and no. As soon as her muscles were ready, she would learn how to walk again.
They were so proud of her! One day, she would be back on stage performing to a crowd of thousands. They would be there watching her. Seeing her happiness was the break from the stress they needed. She was their inspiration in getting through the hard times. If she could do it with a smile, so could they. When they got out of the water, a towel was wrapped around her.
She had to take a shower to wash off the chlorine before getting dressed. Once they got back to her room, she had a glass of water before going into the bathroom. Swimming around made her thirsty. They would wait outside to give them privacy. Her bear was patiently waiting for her return. He sat on her bed as his motionless glass eyes looked around the room. Linsey checked her phone just in case a client called her. As a realtor, she often got last-minute calls.
Usually, things could be sorted quickly over the phone. Every so often, she had to go into the office and work for a while. If Phoenix was at home with her, he either came with her or stayed home. When that happened, she took his car keys. He was constantly working on his sobriety. She was so proud of him. They checked in with each other. He opened up about what he was going through.
Even if it was something simple like Chester being unintentionally annoying. He was a very patient person, but he had his moments where he just wanted to tell him to shut up! His high energy was hard to deal with at times. He always felt bad because he couldn’t help it. It helped to know the other guys were just as annoyed as he was. Even Mike. They usually told him to sit down before they had to remove him from the ceiling.
His energy was better than his depression. He just needed to remember to find a balance. Bria practiced using silverware as she ate. Her hand-eye coordination was getting better. She played a game with Rob where she had to find her nose, mouth, eyes, and ears without looking at a mirror. It was a fun game. She studied his face and used it to try to figure out where everything was on her face.
He thought it would help improve her hand-eye coordination. Her occupational therapist thought it was a great idea! She watched them play it. Bria got most of them correct. It was almost half. They made sure she didn’t poke herself in the eyes because that would hurt! She put her finger on her eyelid.
“That’s your eyelid that covers your eye. I’ll let you have that one because I don’t want you to hurt yourself”, her therapist said.
They gradually added other body parts like feet, hands, knees, shoulders, head, and tongue. She stuck her tongue out. Yes, that was her tongue. She looked down at it before putting it back into her mouth and laughing. They laughed with her.
2007. Another album meant more Grammy awards. But Bria’s heart wasn’t in it. She was still mourning the death of her mother and didn’t want to be at the ceremony. But she went anyway. Everyone she talked to could tell something wasn’t right. She wasn’t as energetic and she had sadness in her eyes. Only the people closest to her knew she was struggling.
Bradley was working on and off, so she felt alone. His career was heating up and he was in demand. She was truly happy for him and she wanted him to have all the success he deserved. Mike and the band were getting ready to go back on tour to promote their new album, Minutes to Midnight. Phoenix, Mike, and Bradford were worried about leaving her behind. They couldn’t bring her with them because they already booked their hotel rooms.
She was on a new medication to help with her severe depression. The only reason why she got up in the morning was because her animals needed her. They had to be fed and the dogs had to go outside. She also had to clean the litter box. Matthew came over to see how she was doing. He was taking a break from filming to be home for a while.
He listened to her talk about her mother. Emma also came out, which freaked him out a little. Bria apologized for scaring him. What the hell happened? She had a dissociative disorder and Emma was her alter. Did she have whatever it was called? Dissociative Identity Disorder? No, she didn’t qualify for a diagnosis. Her diagnosis was similar but it didn’t have all of the same symptoms. Emma came out whenever she was experiencing negative emotions.
How old was she? She was twelve. Was her diagnosis due to severe trauma? No, it was thought to be caused by brain damage. She was without oxygen for a significant amount of time after becoming unconscious. That caused her to have memory loss and trouble speaking. She couldn’t remember anything from before she became unconscious.
What else did she have? ADHD, Borderline Personality Disorder, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and Unspecified Dissociative Disorder with a history of Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome. Plus, a history of addiction, Borderline Personality Disorder, schizophrenia, and domestic violence from her biological parents. Both of her parents were drug users. Her father was abusive towards her mother and it was believed she was a product of the abuse.
Her grandfather was also an alcoholic with undiagnosed PTSD. He abused her mother growing up. As a result, she had severe mental health problems. The only way she was saved from repeating the cycle of abuse and addiction was because her birth mother lost custody of her after she was born with crack cocaine in her system.
Her mother signed away her rights, allowing her to be adopted. She was eventually adopted by her parents. They thought she would have significant developmental disabilities and would need to be in a special school. He remembered the crack cocaine epidemic of the eighties. What year was she born? 1981. Yeah, that was at the beginning of the epidemic. What happened to her parents? They were killed in a car crash when she was eighteen.
A guy hit them while under the influence of drugs and alcohol. The only way she knew about that was because she was told about it. She didn’t remember her parents or her mother. When she died, she was incarcerated at a hospital. She hit her and her friend while under the influence of drugs. Thankfully, they had minor injuries. She was determined not guilty because of her severe mental illnesses.
She never visited her. That was what she was having trouble with. Why was she in the hospital? Low blood pressure. Her friend found her unconscious and called 911. They put her into a coma to prevent severe brain damage.
They were told that if she woke up, she would have severe disabilities and would need around-the-clock care for the rest of her life. Through physical, occupational, and speech therapy, she proved the doctor wrong. Wow. He saw what Bradley loved about her. She didn’t seem like the type to give up. Yes, she had severe mental health problems but there was something courageous about her. He felt like he had known her forever, even though he had just met her. Could they continue hanging out? Yes. Okay.

WORDS: 1302
A NOTE FROM THE AUTHORESS:
I leave next Tuesday (07/18/2023) to head out to San Diego for San Deigo Comic Con. I won’t update until the next week when I get back home again.
I smiled as I watched Peter working on regaining use of his leg with his physical therapist. It was currently three weeks post-surgery and Peter was doing really good by the surgeon’s standards. The girls had started up the school year a few weeks previously and I was thankful for the help of James and Aaron, who had quickly stepped up to helping our family.
The babies were happily giggling as Peter used them as weights, to much of the employees’ mirth. While Peter had been busy his first day, the head of the clinic came over to talk with me.
“Do forgive me for saying this, but Peter does not look like a family man,” she told me as she took in Peter’s cast, decorated with doodles from the girls and how gentle he was being with the babies attached to his legs.
“You honestly aren’t the first person to judge his book by the cover,” I told her as I multitasked by helping the girls with their homework while we all motivated Peter as his own personal army. “But really- he’s such a sap, it isn’t funny. Our fans had dubbed him as #petertheprotector for his territorial ways with his family.”
“Ah.” She turned to eyeball my older husband, who was taking a break by peppering the giggling babies’ tummies with whiskery kisses. “Aren’t you ever afraid of him-”
“No.” I shut her down before she could finish her sentence. “If you are just going to stand there and preach to me how sinful it is that I’m married to a man double my age, you can go away now. And before you ask me, yes, we are planning on expanding our family in a few months.”
She opened and closed her mouth a few times before scuttling off to the office in the back, where she shut the door and left us Ratajczyk family to our own devices.
I looked up and giggled as the sight of Peter sitting on a bouncy ball before rising back onto his feet with a baby in each arm. He sat back down again before repeating the simple movement, his physical therapist standing next to him as she supervised my soulmate and made certain that he wouldn’t hurt himself or drop the babies.
I snapped a picture on my phone of the sight, smiling before I turned back to helping the girls with their history homework.
PING PING
I picked up my phone to check who was ringing the doorbell. I groaned at the sight of the baby face fucking Mormons ringing the doorbell on an endless loop.
“Can I help you with anything?” I heard Aaron say after he opened the door to talk to them.
“Hello sir, we are here to tell you about the miracle that god-” one of the young men started to say before Peter called my attention.
“Yes, my love-?” I hummed as I set my phone down and looked up to find my big beefy husband looming up above me with a baby in each arm.
“Can I get a kiss?” he asked me, smiling as I scrambled to stand up on the chair that I had claimed as my throne to tug him into my loving embrace.
“You are doing so good, oh wonderful husband of mine,” I giggled, pulling away and catching sight of the telltale look in his eyes- he was asking for my permission to fuck me ravage when he got back home again. “Peter…-”
“Alright, that should do it for today!” Peter’s physical therapist chirped happily. “You are doing so good! Keep up the good work!”
“Will do,” he grumbled, accepting his walking cane from Katie before moving us outside to get into his car for the drive back home. “Do we have any errands we need to run before he head on home for the day?”
He pulled out of the parking spot as I took down the handicapped placard hanging over the front mirror of the car.
I looked behind me and smiled at Baby Tommy, who had his mini me in his arms as he babbled softly to it and patted it’s little bandaged leg. Little girl was conked out sound asleep in her car seat, Katie was braiding Jing’s hair. Elizabeth was nodding off to sleep with Elle in her lap, the doll’s smile making me smile back in response.
“My love, I do think that when we get back home, the kids are going to want to go straight to bed,” I hummed out softly. “Jackie and Sammi are coming tomorrow to drop off our faire stuff, I told them to just throw everything into the boxes and that I will organize it when I get a moment.”
“How’s Sammi doing?” Peter asked me, his hand on my knee as he maneuvered the family station wagon through traffic.
“Sammi and Baby Bradley are doing good,” I told him. “Baby Bradley is thirteen weeks old and is currently the size of a peach. Little bean is due on February first of next year. Sammi told me that she’s still going to do OnlyFans while she’s knocked up- apparently, there’s a market for pregnant sluts.”
“Ah. Go figure,” Peter chuckled as he pulled onto the freeway. “Segodnya vecherom mne nuzhno poprobovat' tvoy greshnyy mazok na moyem yazyke.”
“When we get home my love,” I clucked, amused by my husband’s high sex drive. “And we get the kids tucked away in bed, deal?”
“Yes sweetheart,” he chortled as he pulled off the freeway and began to drive on the road that led up to the house. “I hate hospitals- there no privacy whatsoever for me to love on my woman.”
“I hate the hospital food,” I told him, scrunching up at face at the food that Peter had to eat. I just ran out, got some food, quickly assembled it and brought the meal back to the hospital for my husband.
“I love your cooking sweetheart,” he told me, pulling into the driveway and opening the garage door. Aaron and James came downstairs to help carry the kids upstairs for us while Peter and I stayed down in the garage until the last child was whisked upstairs. “Like, I know you don’t like eating out, and I respect that. But you’re a witch in the kitchen with your magic spoon!”
I scrunched my face up and cackled softly, giggling when he leaned over to kiss me.
“Come on now,” I clucked as I followed him up the stairs and into the house for the night.

Day 24: Fight or Flight ➢prompt: Catatonic ➢character: Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw ➢warnings: Catatonia, PTSD, violence, mentions of choking (non-sexual), dehydration, mentions of torture, mentions of the Uranium Mission, therapy, arguing, denial. Based on the episode of Grey's Anatomy where Teddy goes catatonic. ➢word count: 2.2k ➢A/N: can be read as a part 2 to Day 16 Masterlist || whumptober || library page ||
Bradley was near his wits end as he leaned against the doorway of his bedroom. She hadn’t left the bed, in the same position she was in since she laid down three days ago. He was starting to get both concerned and annoyed at her behavior. He knew that she was probably going through hell, but he wasn’t sure how much longer he could take the forced silent treatment. He sighed and pushed himself away from the doorway not being able to watch her anymore, and walked back into the living room.
“How is she?” Natasha asked as Bradley walked back in. Bradley just shrugged and sat down on the couch, turning his focus on the football game that Jake and Bob were watching, “Bradley, how is she?”
“Not talking, not eating, not drinking. Same as yesterday,” Bradley mumbled. Natasha sighed and pushed herself up from her spot on the couch and began to walk down the hall, “Where are you going?”
“To check on her,” Natasha said, turning around.
“Why bother? She hasn’t moved from her spot in three days. She’s not going to suddenly start talking to you. She hasn’t said a word in over three months.”
“And that’s not concerning you, Bradshaw?” Natasha crossed her arms over her chest, “Look, she needs help. It’s not healthy that she’s gone this long without at least water. I called Fanboy to bring an IV. I didn’t think you would want to take her to the hospital to be committed.”
“No,” Bradley muttered. Natasha didn’t say anything else as she walked down the hallway towards the bedroom.
Bradley had seen people go through this before, he had heard the screams and the cries at night of military personnel who had gone through hell overseas. His first couple nights after being rescued had been full of nightmares, but it was always Y/N who woke Bradley up and held on to him. She had survived all the torture the enemy had put her through. She remained resilient, even when she had to stay at the VA hospital for an extra month, getting mental health therapy and some physical therapy.
The biggest issue they were trying to overcome was getting her to start talking. She would do anything but talk to her therapist, she would draw them pictures or write things down, but would never become verbal. Her therapist said she was okay to come home, that the refusal to speak was a personal choice, a way of letting herself heal. Bradley had learned to momentarily live with it, his own therapist giving him ways to help her. He thought he was doing the right thing by talking about his day, but when he mentioned something about an award for their service during the Uranium Mission, she shut down and crawled into bed.
“You think this has to do with the award thing?” Bob asked, softly.
“No fucking clue,” Bradley sighed, “I barely even mentioned it but she lifted her head up and had this look in her eye. . . like she was going to say something, but instead she just kept cleaning the kitchen and then went to bed, and never got out.”
Bob opened his mouth to say something back when the front door rang. Bradley got up to let Fanboy, and not surprisingly, Payback in as well. Fanboy gave everyone a brief greeting before Bradley showed him down to the bedroom. Fanboy was the only one on the dagger squad who had his combat lifesaver certification, and could give IVs to patients. Bradley was suddenly very grateful for the WSOs skills as he walked into the room. Natasha had pulled up a chair and sat by the side of the bed. Y/N’s eyes were open and it was like she was staring right through you. Natasha had tears in her eyes as she ran a hand through Y/N’s matted hair.
“Hey Y/N, it’s Fanboy,” Mickey said as he set down his bag of supplies.
“She’s not going to say anything to you,” Rooster answered.
“I worked with patients like her before I became a pilot,” Mickey said, setting everything out on the dresser, “I know she might not answer me, but she can still hear everything that’s going on. Studies show that talking to comatose patients can help them come out of their comas.”
“She’s not in a fucking coma.”
“She pretty much is,” Fanboy said, looking over at her, “Let’s roll her on her back, and set her arm on the pillow. I’m going to put the IV in her hand and then wrap it, so hopefully she won’t pull it out.”
Natasha nodded and stood up. Her and Fanboy rolled Y/N’s body over as Bradley watched from the doorway. He stayed out of the way as Fanboy brought over his supplies to insert the IV. He was glad that Natasha was here and held Y/N’s hand, and whispered sweet things to her. For growing up with such an affectionate mother, Bradley didn’t do well in these situations. When his old wingman had gotten hurt, Bradley didn’t even visit him, simply because he didn’t know what to do.
“Alright, Y/N,” Fanboy said and checked the tubing to the IV, “You should start feeling better, now.”
“Thank you, Mickey,” Natasha said. Fanboy nodded and cleaned up his stuff before leaving the room. Bradley stared at the IV leaving Y/N’s arm, “If she doesn’t get better, we might need to have her committed.”
“I’m not doing that,” Bradley shook her head, “She’s fine.”
“She’s not! Bradley, she’s not, okay,” Natasha said shaking her head, “I’m not having this argument with you in front of her.”
Bradley rolled his eyes and walked back down the hall towards the living room. He sat back in his spot, and tried to pay attention to the sports game on the TV, but he couldn’t. His mind kept replaying those hours of him and Y/N being trapped in that basement. Her cries and whimpers as she tried to keep herself alive. They never touched Bradley, and that was the worst thing. He didn’t have anything physically wrong with him, he didn’t have scars like Y/N did, just the emotional scarring.
In a way, it was easier for Bradley to bounce back after the mission. He only spent the mandated time at the VA, and was sent back home after it. He didn’t have to go through months of physical and behavior therapy like Y/N did. Yes, he occasionally saw his therapist when the Navy told him, but it was once every two weeks or so. Even though they had both survived, it was as if a part of Y/N had died in that basement.
She wasn’t sure why the Navy thought they had to give her an award for what happened during the Uranium Mission. Yes, they had completed it successfully and that was probably the only good thing that happened. Everything went to hell as soon as they hit coffin corner. Y/N could still hear the sounds of her fellow aviators trying to avoid the SAMs as they came right for them. Every time she closed her eyes she could see Rooster sacrificing himself for Mav and calling out to her. She knew it was stupid to go back and try to find him in the middle of enemy territory, but she had to. Every single person in the sky that day yelled at her and tried calling her back, but she wasn’t going to let the love of her life die in the middle of enemy territory. Y/N was still unsure how Bradley managed to get to her, she didn’t remember much about the ejection, other than her plane breaking apart from the impact of the SAM.
Y/N always thought military awards were stupid, unless you were getting something like the Purple Heart. But Y/N didn’t need another Navy Commendation Medal for what happened in the basement of the enemy’s house. She didn’t need any more reminders of the worst hours of her life. The hours that she wished she could block out from memory, but they played every single time Y/N closed her eyes. She remembered everything about that night even though the doctors and nurses said she didn’t.
After sitting by Y/N’s side for nearly an hour, Phoenix walked angrily down the hall to the living room where the guys were.
“This can’t go on for any longer,” Phoenix said, “I’m taking her to the hospital.”
“No, you’re not, Trace,” Bradley said, rolling her eyes.
“She needs help!”
“She’s fine!” Bradley yelled, standing up from the couch.
“Oh and you were fine when you choked her in your sleep?!” Natasha yelled at him. Bradley felt himself falter as he looked around at the living room.
“How do you know about that?” He mumbled out, looking down at his sock covered feet.
“She called me after it happened. She didn’t say what happened but she was in uncontrollable tears, I thought she was going to pass out,” Natasha crossed her arms over her chest, “She texted me afterwards and told me what happened.”
“I was asleep, I had no idea what was going on until Bob pulled me off of her,” Bradley said honestly. He had no idea what he was doing until he felt Bob’s strong arms circle around his waist and tackle him off of her. When Bradley’s body hit the ground, he came to, watching as Y/N heaved through tears, standing up from the bed and quickly rushing to the bathroom and locking the door behind her. Bob explained several hours later what happened and Bradley was so ashamed of himself.
“You struggle with PTSD from the mission, and so is she. You acted out in violence, and she shut down. You got help after that night. And now she needs it,” Natasha’s voice cracked, “Please, Bradley. I can’t watch this any longer.”
“Nix is right, Bradshaw,” Hangman said, “She’s wasting away in there. She needs help. She needs you.” Bradley felt tears running down his cheeks and he nodded. He looked up at Phoenix, who stepped out of the doorway for him to go down to his bedroom. Phoenix let out a cry and Hangman stood up from the couch, and took her into his arms. She cried into his chest and he placed his chin on top of her head, trying to soothe her.
Bradley let out a shaky breath as he stood outside of their shared bedroom door. He hadn’t been sleeping in there since the catatonia started, choosing instead to sleep on the couch. He opened the door to the dark room softly, and very carefully walked over to the chair by the side of the bed. Her eyes were still open as they watched the rain hit the window. It hardly ever rained in California, and when it did, Y/N was usually pulling Bradley outside to dance in it. He couldn’t bring himself to look at her for several moments, but turned his brown eyes to her frame. Her eyes looked exhausted, dark circles underneath them. She hadn’t moved from when Fanboy and Phoenix rolled her to place the IV in. She was on her second bag of fluids, which was probably a good thing.
“I’m sorry I haven’t been. . . I haven’t been in here a whole lot,” Bradley said, and cleared his throat, “I just. . . I don’t know what to do,” Bradley sobbed out and held his head in his hands, “I just keep fucking this up. If it wasn’t for me trying to save the damn day, you would’ve never been captured and ended up in that fucking basement with me. I will never, ever, forgive myself for what they did to you.” Bradley moved closer to her, and grabbed her hand. Her eyes still hadn’t moved from the window, but according to Fanboy, she knew every single thing he was saying, “I am so sorry for what I did too. I didn’t even know what I was doing. Y/N, I would never ever hurt you like that. And I’ll spend the rest of my days regretting that.”
“I just need you,” Bradley sniffled, and wiped his cheek, “I need you to be okay, I need you to keep fighting. I need you, Y/N.” Bradley held her small hand clasped in his two big ones as he cried. His body shook with sobs as every single memory of his life with her played in his mind. From the moment they met, to when he first said I Love You, to those moments before their life changed forever. It didn’t register to Bradley at first, the feeling of her hand finding its spot on his cheek like it usually did. She rubbed her thumb gently over the apple of his cheek, and Bradley looked down at her.
“Baby?” Bradley gasped out. Her eyes were looking at him, and looked less frozen in time than they had earlier. Bradley placed a hand over hers as it rested on his cheek.
“I’m here,” Y/N said, barely audible. Bradley let out another sob as he collapsed on the bed by her. She had tears running down her own face as Bradley intertwined their fingers and held her hand tightly.

Psychoanalysis and its Roots in the Great War
When the term 'psychoanalysis' is mentioned, we often imagine a patient lying down on a reclined armchair, disclosing their darkest secrets while placed under hypnosis by an elderly, bespectacled man, claiming to be a therapist. Frequently portrayed as such in popular media such as movies and books, we often conceive of psychotherapy to be pseudoscience – not far off from astrology and tarot card readings.
Pictured: Bradley Cooper and Cate Blanchett in 2021 film Nightmare Alley. Cate stars as psychotherapist, Lilith Ritter, and is portrayed to be engaged in a psychotherapy session with Cooper's character, Stanton.
However, the actual therapeutic setting far differs from how many movies portray psychotherapists. Today, therapeutic methods are rigorously scientifically-backed, requiring practitioners to go through professional training before officially working in the field. Medication is also prescribed to treat more severe cases of mental illness – similar to how a medical professional would treat a patient suffering from a physical ailment.
How, then, did this portrayal of psychotherapy materialize in the first place?
World War I marked the birth of many developments in psychological treatments, due to the mass scale at which soldiers on the frontlines suffered from shell shock [CF Assignment 1]. This blog will document the medicalization of trauma and mental illness, and will demonstrate how WWI acted as a watershed event in the history of treating PTSD.

i already know a couple of them but am dying to know more about the wedding date one!! also i live and die for pt trainer bradley so 🤫
I wasn't sure which wedding date one you wanted (because there are two because I have no chill) so I did both!! and a lil info about trainer bradley!!
the wedding date fic:
this is an idea I had ages ago that I sent to @theharddeck in this ask that I've since modified. Natasha and Javy are getting married and as their besties, Jake and Bob are obviously part of the wedding.
Jake has decided he's in love with their wedding planner (a friend of Nat's but wasn't sure what her schedule would look like and if she'd be able to be in the wedding so she's helping them plan) but instead of flirting like a normal person he's gone the tugging pigtails and snarky route. he accidentally makes her cry with a comment that was supposed to be a joke. he immediately apologizes and they make up before the wedding, happy ending of them slow dancing at the reception.
Bob on the other hand as Nat's man of honor has become enamored with Javy's best friend and best woman (better name to be thought of I promise). these two are doing a lot of the heavy lifting when it comes to decorating, keeping the family fights away from the happy couple, etc. their night ends with Bob helping her take out her complex hairstyle and unzipping her dress. he takes his sweet time giving her multiple orgasms and then orders room service while she relaxes in the tub.
the wedding date fic (AU VERSION): this is a Bradley AU of the 2005 movie, The Wedding Date (I saw one gifset of Dermot Mulroney in that movie and my brain went !!!!!BRADLEY!!!!) it follows basically the same premise and is very sweet!
pt/trainer!Bradley: my beloved AU. our leading lady tears her ACL in a biking accident (that wasn't her fault) and her doctor was kind enough to get her into the best physical rehab facility in the county - the Metcalf Center! there she meets her very attractive physical therapist, Bradley Bradshaw. they both keep it professional while she's recovering, even as they're lusting for each other internally. but when her rehab course is finished and she's no longer a client??? whoooo boy. *cue the nastiest sex I've ever written*
send me a title (or several!) from my wip list to learn more about them!

just started the falcon and the winter soldier (im starting ep. 2 and editing it while the episode progresses) and i have some opinions:
i never took a big liking to bucky, not saying i disliked him, but so far im really reevaluating my opinion on him
i really sympathise with james and i could go on but i wont
the lil date he had was cute though
i love sam and i really hurt seeing his family struggle like this, especially due to his lack of income for the last five years- that wasn't even his fault and yet he's being penalized for it
i really fuck with the way you either have money before becoming a superhero, or you're poor and you still struggle with being poor while doing superhero shit- prime examples are peter parker and i nkw recognise sam wilson too
forgot to mention this earlier but joaquin 🥺 and i don't just say this because danny ramirez is my boy-
fuck john walker...idk know him fully yet but his look already has me putting him in my dislike pile (no spoilers pls i know he's not a good guy but nothing else about him)
the chemistry between sam and bucky has me smiling i love friendships like that
redwing...thats my mf baby i love them :(
again, the physics of the shield never fails to amaze me, id give anything for it to be real so i could throw it myself
isaiah bradley :( hurting for him rn
man fuck the police-
once again, fuck john walker
i also don't like this therapist that much
god sam and buck are hilarious i love them
battlestar? whatever the fuck his name is...he lowkey annoys me, i dont like that smug look he has
lastly, i'm excited to see zemo being brought back into the fold
