My PC hard drive failed :( I got a couple Windows errors in the last week or two saying there were bad sectors and I ran the built-in repair stuff, but yesterday when I turned on my computer I got clicking and it's showing up as unformatted. Luckily it wasn't my boot drive, but I was using about 3TB of the 4TB drive for storage. It still shows up in device manager/disk management so I'm a little optimistic that a data recovery place would have luck getting stuff off of it, but just browsing around they seem reaaaaaally expensive. I poked around some DIY software solutions but I'm less optimistic about those getting anything usable, and I don't want to damage the drive any more.

I got a new hard drive and I'm thinking I'll just start to reassemble what I have on other sources and I'll keep researching data recovery services. There wasn't anything super vital on the drive, it's mostly the inconvenience, but it'd be nice to get my photos back, some of my documents, my Steam saves, etc. If anyone's had a good experience with data recovery services at a reasonable price (especially in Mass but I know lots of places take shipments) please let me know.
