Through the years I’ve used a lot of different brands of Cameras, lenses and lights for all kinds of assignments. However, I’ve always enjoyed all my friends in the photo industry and always kept in touch even if I wasn’t using their products. Late in 2021 my friend at TamronAmericas came to me with a lens she thought I would be very interested in and the transition started the 35-150 F2-2.8 Tamron lens opened a whole new world for me, it was a Sony mount and I didn’t use Sony cameras. Another friend at Sony made me an offer I couldn’t refuse so now I’m a Sony user! My lighting was much too big and cumbersome for on the go photoshoots, so another long time friend from 8x10 film days now at Profoto said I have some you may like!! Famous last words! So armed with all this gear I really enjoy using I’m off to photograph a magazine cover shoot and I couldn’t be happier with my choice and also my friends who always have my back!! My quest with #photographingamerica🇺🇸 is to never photograph models,only real people doing what they do everyday. This is Albert Thorn a cattle rancher from West Texas. Albert and his wife Sheri invited me into their home to show me Sheri’s vintage John Deere collection. Meeting real people telling me about their lives is priceless to me. It’s Pow Wow season in the Native American Community. Google it and find one near you. I spent a week in Standing Rock during the pipeline conflict. To really know them is to love them. A few years back I had the pleasure of meeting Douglas Kirkland and under terrible lighting made this portrait. Douglas was an icon photographing Marilyn Monroe and so many of Hollywood’s greatest celebrities. October 2, 2022 the photo world lost Douglas! His iconic images will live on forever.
