BTS Takes on L.A. With Vogue—And It’s “Hella Lit”
“Whoa, is that Raf?” asks J-Hope—the main dancer of BTS—striding into a chintzy suite in Downtown L.A. decorated with mustard-colored couches and heading straight for the racks of tapered jeans and Western tops in the middle. “It must be expensive,” he murmurs, running his hands over the grosgrain stripes, then calls out to his bandmates as they enter: “Guys, it’s Calvin Klein!” The hotel’s 10th floor has been completely closed off for this week in November to accommodate the seven-member K-pop act on their first major run of U.S. press: James Corden, then Jimmy Kimmel, a historic performance at the AMAs (the first Korean group to do so), and Ellen DeGeneres, with a slew of interviews squeezed in between. On their penultimate day, they hit another milestone, becoming the first K-pop band to book a full-fledged shoot with Vogue, who proposed a fun and carefree tour of the city they had taken by storm. One by one, they file into the room—Jungkook, the youngest, is so striking in person, an audible hush falls when he enters, startling him slightly. He heads straight for the makeup chair to wait for his touch-up, singing softly to himself to pass the time. Other members make a beeline for the pile of snacks on the sideboard: cup ramen and boxes of Pocky, crunchy Cheetos and Fritos, cans of Coke, slices of castella cake, iced Americanos, and thick “body conditioning” shakes in teal sports bottles, individually labeled and lined up with military precision. Raf’s Spring 2018 denim (later shot on the Kardashian-Jenners) is duly admired, then the boys slip out to get dressed in private and return for group inspection. They are extremely particular about clothes: “They are perfectionists,” a staff member proudly notes five times that day. Hems are cuffed and uncuffed and repinned until they hit the ankle just so; Jungkook fusses with a belt to perfect the fit, while Jimin and Suga compare silver chain earrings, left long to brush their collars. Jin walks in promptly, shrugs on a pair of cornflower blue cowboy boots, and sticks a wedge of castella in his mouth. Some 45 minutes later, the boys pile onto one mustard couch and happily recount the highlights from the past seven days—meeting Post Malone at the AMAs, airport Panda Express—and move onto their favorite bit of American slang. “Teach us something!” RM, formerly Rap Monster, the leader, asks. One editor proposes “lituation,” a portmanteau of “lit” and “situation.” Their eyes glow, as though they’ve been given a shiny new toy. “Lituation! That’s hella lit.” And so it was. By now, everything there is to know about BTS has come out in interviews. BTS stands for Bangtan Sonyeondan, or Bulletproof Boy Scouts; last summer, as their U.S. visibility grew, they added the meaning Beyond the Scene. The seven-member boy band debuted in 2013 through Big Hit Entertainment, a Seoul-based entertainment company that has been a smaller player. Initially, their music took more from rap and hip-hop. In 2015, they shifted direction and began to attract international attention with high-energy dance tracks (“Dope”) and EDM torch songs (“Save Me”), but Big Hit remained focused on Asia (This editor attempted to shoot the band that summer, but was rebuffed). Everything changed last May at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards, when BTS flew to Las Vegas to accept Top Social Artist in silk Saint Laurent suits and the subsequent flurry on Twitter (the band’s preferred social media platform) made the rest of the world take note. From there, the attention snowballed, and by the time they had scheduled their flights to the West Coast, the press and fans were ready to pounce—on their arrival at LAX, they were greeted by a crush of shrieking girls and boys, who strained against the line of security guards in yellow shirts that had formed a human wall to protect them. The L.A. trip was the sort of pop cultural milestone not seen since the Beatles arrived in New York (or One Direction arrived, well, anywhere), but of different magnitude. For countless Asian-Americans, it has meant everything to see seven Koreans celebrated on a global scale. Back home, Koreans are astonished to see a group of their own go so far (unusually, BTS exploded overseas first, only winning their first daesang, or major Korean music award, in 2016). The boys know it too—over the course of our day with them, they spend a great deal of their time blissfully awestruck by the attention. “It’s still hard to believe it’s happening,” Jin says. “It’s like a dream.” It is 3:45 p.m. and the boys have finally boarded the party bus (how else to travel L.A. with a small entourage?). The final head count: seven K-pop stars, three Vogue editors, a four-man video crew, one manager, one body guard, one translator, one makeup artist, an assistant, and the driver. The rest of the team (three additional bodyguards, two hair stylists and a makeup assistant, more managers, and two publicists) follow in gleaming black Escalades. The bus is lined with leather seats and armed with flashing colored lights and a silver pole at its center. There are snacks here, too: bottles of Coke kept on ice, passed around by the boys, yogurt-covered pretzels, Kind bars, and a bag of nacho cheese Doritos, which Jimin grabs gleefully (“These are my favorite!”). “This is the kind of place where you have a party?” Jin asks, eyeing the pole with some suspicion. Once it is explained that the party bus takes you from club to club (“so the party never stops”), the group is stunned (“Wow, Americans . . . ”). Agreeably, J-Hope plugs his phone into the sound system to play a selection of their favorite songs: “Havana,” “Dirty Pop.” Let loose for the first time in days, with the stress of the AMAs behind them, they seem full of pent-up energy. The bass shakes the walls, and V picks up two discarded Coke bottle caps and pops them in his eyes, grinning and shimmying wildly to peals of laughter. Jin and RM take turns slinking and bouncing around the pole in a dramatic fashion, until every member of the team and crew is laughing, too. Why is BTS so popular? They are far from the first South Korean artist to make a splash in the U.S.—SNSD with their viral hit “Gee,” Rain, who famously defeated Stephen Colbert for Time’s top influencer in 2007 (as voted by fans)—but the attention around them feels different. It comes down to timing: at the right moment, they found a fiercely loyal group of fans called Army, who fell hard, grew fast, and delivered their boys to international stardom. Yet there’s also the current media landscape to consider. It is why the Billboard Music Awards marked a turning point—the media saw the potential for page views, and the exponential rise in coverage that has followed has at times, to Army’s dismay, felt disingenuous. Take James Corden, for example, who drew some ire for pandering to fans. Worse still were those American interviewers who had done no research and asked often patronizing, uninformed questions—“Do you dance?” when they’re known for it. It has been tough for Army to watch wafer-thin interviews, conducted by people who barely know (certainly don’t care) about their boys, only the attention they might bring; in many ways, they have been treated as an Asian novelty. Yet the fashion world appears eager to embrace them on more balanced terms, something the boys like quite a lot. They wore Anthony Vaccarello’s Saint Laurent for both U.S. red carpet appearances; they spend a lot of time worrying over watches and earrings and documenting their daily looks. On the party bus, they take careful bites of their mustard-topped hot dogs, careful not to spill a drop. They’re big fans of brands like Gucci, WTAPS, and Calvin (and Raf, for the matter), though in Korea, the price of CK is quite steep due to import fees. “What about a group discount: 30-pack of Calvin shirts for $30, how’s that?” Jungkook proposes, laughing. “Cut us a deal?” Last fall, BTS was accosted by a cameraman outside a famous hot dog stand near Hollywood. The footage went viral and rumors quickly spread that the band had canceled a “meet and greet” for no reason. Of course, the truth is that there never was a meet and greet, but a private photo shoot with this magazine: the owner signs a standard agreement, part of which stipulates the event is closed to the public. Later, the stand’s Twitter account posts the exact time at which the band would be arriving and encourages fans to come. The bus pulls up to see at least three camera crews, including ABC News and TMZ, and a crowd of fans waiting; the shoot is no longer possible. To stick to schedule, the team is forced to move a few blocks away to continue. Eventually, a few cameramen find the new location; one particularly aggressive man begins screaming about his rights to a bodyguard (the guard, not understanding English, is quite literally unmoved). Shooting is forced to wrap, and the boys step back onto the bus. “You’re going to lose all your American fans before you even get here,” he screams after them. “What’d he say?” they ask back onboard. They seem on edge, though mostly confused by the panicked affair. The hair and makeup team rush forward to dab herbal oil behind their necks and offer soothing shoulder rubs. Once his remarks are translated, however, the tension lessens and they laugh. “Tell him thank you for worrying about us!” J-Hope says, smiling. “Yeah, thank you so much!” Even the Big Hit team, though openly displeased, seem privately thrilled. “The paparazzi were here!” one says in passing. “That means we’ve really made it, huh.” Flash back to 2014 when BTS came to L.A. to film a reality TV series, American Hustle Life, where they learned about hip-hop culture. In one memorable passage, the boys are sent out on the street to approach random girls and invite them to star in their music video with little success. Now, it’s security teams and TMZ. A happier scene unfolds at Dave and Buster’s, the adult arcade games chain, where the boys are given an unlimited points card and set free. On a weeknight the floor is quiet, just a handful of families with small kids killing time; not much notice is paid to the handsome group in the back. Jungkook and Jin race to the DDR machine and face off, their patent cowboy boots darting frantically across the mat. Suga and Jimin reach for a first-person shooting game, while J-Hope and RM start throwing baskets. Across the way, V draws the attention of a small kid—”Mom, they were on TV last night!”—and takes a selfie with him, before turning his attention to a machine where you toss palm-sized footballs through different hoops. “Wait, this is really hard!” he says, calling to Jimin to take a turn (Jimin effortlessly throws a few into the correct slots). Their energy is infectious—and seemingly limitless. After shooting has wrapped, and they have politely bowed to the entire crew, the seven boys board their Escalades and promptly return to the hotel. They walk to their separate rooms, change into fresh clothes, and continue an interview that had been interrupted that afternoon. The next morning, bright and early, they appear on Ellen, then head straight to LAX and back to Seoul to begin rehearsals for the end of the year award shows, practicing late into the night. No doubt they are tired, but still, they smile and keep at it. Perhaps the beauty lies on that basic level: just seven young boys, enjoying the ride.

Blank Stare: Daisy Ridley Reveals Her Mysterious ‘Star Wars’ Character Rey Was Almost A Kenobi
Source: Walt Disney Studios / Disney
Even though Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has come and gone, the movie still continues to haunt Star Wars fans around the world.
When it comes to the final chapter in the Skywalker saga, there has been a whole lot of woulda, coulda, and shoulda going on. Since the film’s 2019 release, there have been plenty of revelations that pretty much have pissed off fans who have seen their theories tha have formulated since 2015’s The Force Awakens be taken and thrown in the trash can.
The film’s star, Daisy Ridley, who played the mysterious Rey, shared another interesting revelation that has fans of the now Disney-owned film franchise heads exploding in frustration. Speaking with fellow actor Josh Gad who filled in for Jimmy Kimmel on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Gad asked about her *spoiler alert* huge plot twist the revealed her to be the granddaughter of Star War’s supreme villain and Darkside aficionado  Emperor Palpatine.
Ridley revealed that despite director J.J. Abrams ultimately deciding to make Rey a Palpatine, it was never really truly set in stone and that at one point, they were considering making her a descendent of the legendary Jedi Knight, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Ridley also detailed how they juggled back in forth with what her lineage would ultimately be, confirming how much of a mess The Rise of Skywalker indeed was.
“At the beginning, there was toying with an Obi-Wan connection — there were different versions — then it really went to it was no one, and then it came to Episode IX, and J.J. [Abrams] pitched me the film and was like, ‘Oh, yeah, Palpatine is Granddaddy,'”
“Then two weeks later, he was like, ‘Oh, we’re not sure. So, it kept changing. So, then even as we were filming, I wasn’t sure what the answer was going to be.”
The revelation, of course, had Star Wars fans already mad about The Rise of Skywalker, infuriated about the decision to scrap Rey Kenobi. One person tweeted:
“Daisy Ridley was supposed to be Rey Kenobi, then Rey Nobody and then Rey Palpatine in the worst planned and written trilogy in the history of cinema.”
Ouch.
Ridley is the latest cast member from the film to speak about the conclusion that arrived with the loudest thud ever. John Boyega hasn’t been shy about his disdain about how Disney presented his character as an essential piece to the Star Wars puzzle only to see Finn reduced to a screaming sidekick. Boyega also called out the house of the mouse for its treatment of the film’s diverse cast members.
The only thing that can solve this issue now is some sort of director’s cut, like Justice League’s Snyder Cut, and we know that ain’t happening. You can peep the interview below if you want to get mad at The Rise of Skywalker all over again.

Kevin Hart Says He Was SHOCKED To Find Out Eniko Watched Porn Without Him - Her Fave Category Is Everything He's NOT
Tumblr media
Kevin Hart's wife Eniko Hart loves a good porn clip and he was shocked to find out she watches without him. We don't know why he's surprised, but we digress.
Also, her favorite category shocked him even more. Get it all inside...
Porn! A lot of folks watch it being that the billion dollar industry is BOOMING. According to NBC News, porn is an estimated $97 billion industry globally, with about $12 billion of that coming from the U.S. And these are stats from 2015, so it's likely even higher now.
However, Kevin Hart was taken back when he learned his wife of two-years, Eniko Hart, *gasps in fake shocked* watches porn without him.
Tumblr media
In his recently released Netflix standup special "Irresponsible," he talked about how he felt when he learned his wife gets it poppin' by her damn self.  High fives to her, by the way. At first he was intrigued, then he got in his feelings once he found out she was watching videos in categories that are the complete opposite of him.  (But let a beautiful, non-mixed, brown skin, B cup woman tell her man she feels a way about him stalking the "exotical big ti**y babes" category and he'll throw out that "insecure" word.)
“That was a tough time for me,” he joked during an interview on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" recently. “That was a tough time, that was a tough situation in my household. We were just having a conversation. It was a random conversation, and through the random conversation I was like, ‘Do you watch porn?’ She was like, ‘Yeah, I watch porn from time to time.’ I was like, ‘Get out of here! Really? Like what? What you watch?’ She was like, ‘Porn. Stuff.'”
Tumblr media
This peaked his interest, so he had her pull up what she enjoys watching.
“‘Let me see, let me see the stuff you watch. Let me see what your stuff is,'” he continued. “And the sh*t that she showed me…It really hurt me. It did a number. It did a hell of a number on me because it’s so different from what I am. It was so…everything was big. Everything. Everything. Tall, everybody was tall. I got mad! ‘What is this? What is this?!’ She was like, ‘What? I like that stuff!’"
We're sure it hurt her as well to find out he was smashing women that weren’t her in real life. Just sayin'.
Peep the clip below:
youtube
In another clip, the Night School actor explained why he "keeps my lil a** out of Vegas." Check it:
youtube
However, he was in Vegas last night for CinemaCon:

In Las Vegas at the CinemaCon Awards...Tonight I'm receiving the "International Star Of The Year" award and I am truly humbled by it. This doesn't happen without all of my amazing fans & partners....Major thank you to NATO for always showing me so much love and support. Love all of you guys. Styled by @ashleynorthstyle

Ariel Winter, 19, Is Shacking Up With Her Older Boyfriend
Tumblr media

Ariel Winter certainly looks all grown up in the racy ensembles she loves wearing — and she’s living a grown-up life too. The Modern Family star, 19, says her decade-older boyfriend, Levi Meaden, has moved into her $1.5 million mansion.
While appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday, the teen talked about her new living arrangements. Last year, she bought her first house in Sherman Oaks, Calif., and now her 29-year-old boyfriend, an actor who has appeared on Aftermath and The Killing, is her housemate. They cohabitate well together, she said.
“Last year I bought my own house,” she told Kimmel. “My boyfriend and I live together and he cooks. I can’t cook at all. He takes care of all that handy stuff. It’s great — he does all that. I can bake pie occasionally — pumpkin and apple.”
yahoo
Ariel, who can be seen on the big screen in Dog Years with Burt Reynolds, added, “I’m the worst wifely person,” though we’d bet most 19 years old are because they’re still pretty much kids. “Like I said: I bake those pies, he does everything else.”
The 3,200-square-foot, four-bedroom house is great for pie-baking as it features a gourmet kitchen with Viking appliances. It also has a wine cellar (even though she’s a few years from the legal drinking age) and an outdoor entertaining area with  a fire pit, grassy area, and built-in BBQ, which is great for entertaining.
Ariel has been linked to her older man since last fall and he’s a regular fixture in her Instagram. In fact, she recently referred to them as “Bonnie and Clyde.” She opened up about him during a recent interview with Maxim, saying that, despite their age gap, they make a good pair.
“I grew up a lot earlier than I should have, and I’m only 19 but it feels like I’m a lot older,” she said. “I needed somebody who had a lot of life experience and who was at a point in their lives that they could take care of another person, but where I didn’t have to take care of them. Being with an older guy isn’t always amazing, but I got lucky — I have an amazing guy who’s super supportive and loving and is just an all-around wonderful human being. He’s also Canadian, so, go Canada! Canadians are like, so much nicer.”

In the same interview, she described herself as a “give-no-s***s person,” who like to swear and is known to be “vulgar.”
Ariel growing up “a lot earlier than she should have” relates to her career as a child star. Her mom pushed her into the biz, putting her in a commercials at age 4. She landed the role of Alex Dunphy in Mod Fam in 2009, when she was 11. However, she subsequently had her momager removed as her guardian, claiming she was “physically and emotionally abusive,” and was emancipated in 2015.

Ariel’s racy ensembles have been a hot topic for the last year, but even more so lately after she wore this to a Modern Family screening. (Even her on-screen big sister, Sarah Hyland, has defended her.) Last night, she brought the sexy to Kimmel as well, wearing a low-cut, spaghetti strap dress that was sheer on the bottom. (Or, in short, something a Kardashian would wear.)
Here’s the sexy rear view of Ariel’s talk show outfit:

Ariel told Kimmel that because she started on the show when she is 11, the public — as well as her co-stars — are now facing the fact that she’s grown up. (For the record, her co-stars are cool. “They definitely treat me like an adult,” she said.) And we’ll be seeing a lot more of her adult looks. While she was accepted at UCLA (she’ll pursue a political science degree and hopes to ultimately become a lawyer), she told Kimmel she’s not giving up her acting career, including her hit ABC series, which was renewed yesterday for two more seasons. Cha-ching!
So girl can hire someone around the house to do the “wifely” things, if needed. She’s busy making bank.

interview
He disarms with a simple introduction. “I’m Ben,” says the 44-year-old star, extending his hand. In a casual gray sweater and black pants, he picks a place to sit on the balcony of a room at the Four Seasons Los Angeles at Beverly Hills to discuss his latest drama, Live by Night (out January 13). The two-time Oscar winner maintains laser-sharp focus while chatting about his fourth directorial effort, in which he plays a 1920s gangster running a rum operation. Ben Affleck, father of three (with Jennifer Garner), answers all with Us West Coast Bureau Chief Rebecca Bienstock.
US: What’s the hallmark of a Ben Affleck film?
BA: I don’t know that there’s a hallmark. I try to cast really good actors and give them a chance to do their very best work, give them as much time and space as they need. I feel like casting is the most important aspect of making movies. Hopefully a good story, good dialogue. It’s hard to say. That’s for other people to say, I suppose.
US: Describe the vibe on the set of your films. Do you pull practical jokes like George Clooney?
BA: I don’t like to take a dump in the litter box like George Clooney, that’s for sure. That’s his thing. I work hard and other people pick up on that, so it’s not a superjokey environment. It’s more, “Let’s get down to work and down to business.”
US: Many of your films are set in Boston. How are you influenced by it?
BA: I grew up there, and I have a good instinct for what’s real and what’s not. I don’t have to second-guess myself.
US: Live by Night explores the idea of having an unconventional moral compass, what are your thoughts on how you try to live your life?
BA: I think it’s kind of interesting, it’s a provocative notion — this idea that if we try to define our own moral universe, there’s a price for that. There’s a lot of romance to sort of living by your own rules and sort of not subscribing to what society tells you to do, but society pushes back pretty strongly, so there’s a lot of compromise that goes with that.
US: You’ve said you took the role of Batman, in part, for your 4-year-old son, Samuel. I’m assuming your kids will not see Live by Night?
BA: My kids can see this when they’re 13.
US: Does picking movies that would appeal to your kids inform your decisions at all?
BA: It definitely informed my decision to do Batman. That was part of the excitement. This movie has nothing to do with my kids, but there are themes about fathers and sons, which is moving to me.
US: What do you draw from your own experiences with that father-son dynamic in the movie?
BA: Well, I think when you have children, it just changes your worldview, and that’s reflected in the movies. The perspective that you have is just different, and so the movies are different. The more children I’ve had, the more I’ve felt that presence in the movies.
US: I saw in one interview that Chris Messina and Chris Cooper both said you created a relaxed vibe on set. How did you keep that going?
BA: You know, just by allowing actors to have enough time to do whatever they want, to not feel rushed, to not feel pressure to act and hurry it up and get it done and get it done right, just that we have enough time to make sure that it’s going to get done right.
US: Would you ever let your kids get into acting?
BA: No.
US: Are school plays OK?
BA: School plays are fine. Theater in school is fine.
US: You’ve said that your kids are your most wonderful achievement. How does that compare with your professional success?
BA: My professional success is really important to me, and my career is really important to me. It’s the most important thing to me outside of my family. I take it very seriously and work really, really hard at it. Family comes first, but this is something that’s really important to me too.
US: What would you have done for a career if this whole Hollywood thing hadn’t worked out?
BA: Gosh, I don’t know. I probably would’ve been a history teacher somewhere.
US: You started working on the film in 2015. How do you feel about your life now versus then?
BA: I feel better about my life every day. My kids get older. My life is very rich and full of wonderful things. I’ve been very lucky, careerwise.
US: How do you spend a free day with your kids?
BA: My kids like to do a lot of crafts … just getting a chance to spend time with them, play with them, do stuff with them, activities that are focused on house and home. That’s ideal.
US: I know the title isn’t literal, but are you more of a night or a day person?
BA: I like to sleep, I’ll say that.
US: What’s your average go-to-bed and wake-up time?
BA: I go to bed pretty early. I’m old, I’m sad to say. I go to bed at 9:30 or 10; I have to get up at 6.
US: What’s a perfect day like for you when you’re not working and not with your kids?
BA: I don’t know if that day ever comes. I don’t spend too much time just kicking back. On Sundays I like to watch the [New England] Patriots with Matt [Damon]. That’s a nice, relaxing day.
   PHOTOS: Celebrity Siblings
US: You spent the holidays in Montana with Matt, your brother, Casey, and your families. Who has cooking duty when you’re all together?
BA: Not me! Jen [Garner] is a really great cook. She’s probably the best cook I know. We had roast chicken this year; it was really, really good. Other than that, we do pizza nights, where a guy comes and makes pizza and nobody has to cook.
US: And who cleans?
BA: Me. All the cleaning.
US: Oh, really? That’s impressive. You don’t mind?
BA: No. [Laughs]
US: You’re like, "I have no choice."
BA: No. [Laughs]
US: Your younger brother, Casey, is having a busy awards season, thanks to his role in Manchester by the Sea. Have you given him any advice about how to handle the circuit?
BA: My brother is very mature. He doesn’t need any advice. He did an extraordinary performance, and I’m voting for him and rooting for him. I don’t want to say I’m proud because it sounds like I’m his dad, but I’m really happy for him. I’m really happy that he’s gotten a chance to play a role that showcases his talents.
US: Is there a healthy rivalry between you guys?
BA: No. With my brother and Matt and Joaquin [Phoenix] and guys that I’ve known really well for a long time, we tend to just root for each other. I think there’s room for everybody, if you find the right parts. It’s not a zero-sum game. Manchester is a good example of that. He’s got his own part and his own thing. That doesn’t take anything away from me or anyone else.
US: Casey did joke [at the Palm Springs International Film Festival] that people should see his movie first. Do you have any thoughts on that?
BA: [Laughs] As long as they see mine second.
Stars You Didn't Know Were Related
US: You do a lot of work with the Congo. Are you concerned about how the world is going to perceive us now?
BA: I don’t know what’s going to happen. It’ll be very interesting to see who’s appointed for the secretary of African affairs, and I look forward to working with them and the Congress. I’ve done a lot of work with a lot of Republicans so far in Congress and in the Senate, and I hope that won’t change, and I hope that the president views the situation in the Congo with the same importance that I do.
US: We’re two weeks away from the inauguration. How are you feeling as we go into the next administration?
BA: Well, I’m curious — as everyone is — to see what the next administration will look like. It seems much more mysterious than past administrations. It’s hard to read the tea leaves around what it’s going to be like, what it means and what kind of people are going to staff the administration. I’m certainly very curious to see.
US: How did you explain the election results to your kids?
BA: I explained that more people voted for one person … but we have something called the Electoral College, and because of it, that’s now our president, and we should give him a chance to be successful.
US: Did they have questions about it?
BA: My daughters [Violet, 11, and Seraphina, 8] wanted the first woman president to win, so they were disappointed.
US: Well, there’s room for an Affleck presidency.
BA: At this point, anyone is qualified, as far as I can tell! [Laughs]
US: How about a Matt Damon–Ben Affleck presidential ticket?
BA: As long as he’s my vice!
US: Where would Jimmy Kimmel be in your cabinet?
BA: I think secretary of the interior.
US: And your favorite NFL quarterback, Tom Brady?
BA: I’d have to make him president.

Vanessa Bryant and his daughters were Kobe Bryant’s great loves
https://newsource-embed-prd.ns.cnn.com/videos/newsource-video-embed.js
LOS ANGELES – It all began with a music video.
Kobe Bryant was barely in his 20s and already a basketball phenom when he met a 17-year-old California high school student who captured his heart instantaneously.
He and the former Vanessa Urbieta Cornejo Laine were engaged after six months and married after she turned 18.
Now Vanessa Bryant is facing the devastating loss of her husband and their 13-year-old daughter Gianna who were killed Sunday along with seven others in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California.
Their fairytale beginning
Many people didn’t even believe Laine was really dating the NBA star.
After all the Marina High School in Huntington Beach student led a pretty sheltered life as a Latina teen growing up in Orange County and Bryant traveled in celebrity circles, having taken singer Brandy to prom.
“She said, ‘Guess who I met and guess who called me — Kobe Bryant!’ ” her stepcousin Laila Laine told the Los Angeles Times in 2005. “I said, ‘Sure. Have another drink.’
But for Bryant and Laine sparks flew after they met when she had a stint as a music video extra and he was on set having decided to launch a side career as a rapper.
He began sending her massive bunches of roses at school and picking her up from there in his Mercedes Benz. They were soon engaged and the attention that garnered became so much that she reportedly had to finish her senior year via independent study.
The couple married in April 2001 at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church in Dana Point, California, and Kobe Bryant’s family was reportedly less than happy.
The family became estranged and his father Joe reportedly said at the time “Once he decided to get married, it’s his life now.”
Vanessa Bryant was quickly given a crash course in being the wife of a star NBA athlete which includes a sisterhood of fellow NBA wives, wealth and plenty of media scrutiny. “I remember at one point she had this sort of identity crisis,” Laila Laine said in 2005. “She told me she was starting not to know who she was anymore, other than the wife of Kobe Bryant.”
A dark time
Six months after Vanessa Bryant gave birth in 2003 to their first child, daughter Natalia, Kobe Bryant was accused of sexually assaulting a 19-year-old Colorado hotel worker.
Bryant insisted the encounter was consensual and his wife was at his side during a press conference where he said he was “Disgusted at myself for making (the) mistake of adultery.”
“I love my wife with all my heart, he said at the time. “She’s my backbone.”
Much was made of the fact that the basketball star reportedly gifted his wife with $4 million eight-carat, purple diamond ring following his admission of adultery.
The criminal sexual assault charge was dropped in 2004, and the accuser agreed to settle a civil lawsuit against Bryant in 2005.
During the tumult, the Bryants suffered through a miscarriage.
Kobe Bryant said during a 2015 Showtime documentary that he blamed himself for their loss. “The reality is it happened because of me,” he said. “That’s something I have to deal with.”
The family welcomed daughter Gianna in 2006.
The couple hit another rough patch in 2011 when Vanessa Bryant filed for divorce citing “irreconcilable differences.”
By 2013 they had reunited.
“We are pleased to announce that we have reconciled,” Vanessa Bryant said on social media at the time. “Our divorce action will be dismissed. We are looking forward to our future together.”
Doting father and husband
Daughter Bianka was born in 2016 followed by daughter Capri in 2019.
Kobe Bryant often took to social media to share his love for his wife and their kids, whom he referred to as their “princesses.”
In November 2019 he shared a throwback photo of him and his wife.
“On this day 20 years ago I met my best friend, my Queen @vanessabryant I decided to take her on a date to Disneyland tonight to celebrate old school style (pre 4princesses),” he wrote in the caption. “I love you my mamacita per sempre.”
He shared a special bond with his second daughter Gianna who was lovingly known as “GiGi.”
The pair could often be spotted in floor seats at NBA games as he taught her about basketball.
In 2018 Kobe Bryant appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and talked about coaching Gianna’s basketball team.
“(Gianna will) be standing next to me, and it’ll be like, ‘And you gotta have a boy. You and V gotta have a boy, have somebody carry on the tradition, the legacy,” he said. (Gianna’s) like, ‘I got this. No boy for that, I got this.’”
He told Extra in 2017 that Gianna was “pretty fierce” when it came to basketball.
“She came to me last summer and asked if I would teach her the game a little bit, so she just started playing,” Bryant said. “Natalia’s a great volleyball player and Gianna’s great at basketball, great at soccer.”
Weeks before he and Gianna died Showtime Basketball’s “All the Smoke” podcast ran an interview with Bryant in which he said that he was “psychotic” when it came making sure he had quality time with his family.
It was a different side from the one people saw when he was on the court, he said.
“I can be an absolute teddy bear when I’m at home with my family, with my kids enjoying that family time,” Bryant said.
He also touched on how he and his wife had managed to endure.
Their mutual “competitiveness of ‘We’re going to succeed’” helped them, he said, as well as the difficult times they weathered.
“That’s all the beauty of it: having the persistence and determination to work through things — very, very tough things — and we’ve been able to do that,” he said.

Fittest Late Night Talk Show Hosts 2017
Late night talk show hosts can crack a joke and carry a skit, but can they run a few miles without getting out of breath? The nightly format of most of these shows means that these hosts are in our living rooms and on our Twitter feeds every day. They should use their large platform and extensive followings to rally people around healthy lifestyle.
At the HFR institue, we’ve emphasized the connection between entertainment and fitness since 2013. Our innovative lists of fittest celebrities hit all categories of entertainers, from comedians to rock stars. This is our third annual fittest talk show host list, with previous research ranking the fittest late night talk show hosts and daytime hosts. We used Samir Becic’s knowledge of over 33 years in athletics coupled with his experience as 4 times Number 1 Fitness Trainer in the World to scour all available information on the late night hosts to find the fittest of the bunch.
Samir Becic, author of ReSYNC Your Life, says of these late night mavens “Late night talk show hosts have a specific role in American society because of the tens of millions of viewers and followers on social media. They can be among the most influential trendsetters and can inspire millions of Americans to embrace a healthier lifestyle.”
We used a combination of internet research and interviews to create this list:
Andy Cohen – Watch What Happens Live
A post shared by Andy Cohen (@bravoandy) on Oct 27, 2014 at 11:39am PDT
Scuba dives.
Enjoys fly-fishing.
Rides horses- can even be seen herding cattle in Montana on his Instagram page.
Has said his rescue dog Wacha, has made him more of a morning person, and he regularly walks him.
Works out daily with a trainer for an hour.
Although he is up late for his live late night talk show, he always makes time in the morning to workout, something he enjoys.
Cohen eats a healthy diet and is big on healthy eating. He often eats toast and tea for breakfast, quinoa for lunch, and religiously eats the same meal every night of grilled chicken fajita meat when working.
Trevor Noah – The Daily Show
A photo posted by Trevor Noah (@trevornoah) on Mar 31, 2014 at 11:05am PDT
He’s well-aware of the prevalence of heart disease so Noah likes to stay moving when he’s at the office. He does so by spontaneously completing a set of moves with a colleague throughout the day. This can include 10 reps of lunges or squats per person.
Noah finds no excuse to be physically inactive and discourages chronic sitting. He’ll squeeze in some pull-ups, squats, etc. when he’s preparing for The Daily Show.
He believes jumping is a wonderful and easy way to spruce up your monotonous daily actions.
Was runner-up in a reality dance TV Show in South Africa called Strictly Come Dancing, where he trained 14-16 hours daily.
For Noah, it’s not just about being active, it’s also about being proactive in finding ways to include some sort of mini-workout despite your busy schedule.
He is a conscious eater when it comes to processed foods. In a GQ interview, Noah comments that American food “has too much added to it” compared what he ate in his native country, South Africa. To accommodate for these differences, Noah omits excess sugar from his diet and sometimes he’ll even avoid refined carbs for multiple weeks.
Stephen Colbert – The Late Show
A video posted by Late Show with Stephen Colbert (@colbertlateshow) on Nov 20, 2015 at 11:04am PST
A NASA treadmill for astronauts, Combined Operational Load Bearing External Resistance Treadmill (COLBERT), was named in honor of Stephen Colbert.
NASA named the space station treadmill after him- Jokes that his daily routine involves:
a protein shake thrown in the face of a jaguar
Crab walks for 25 miles and stabs a mountain
Finishes up with self flagellation and some catapult work
Attended the 2014 Shape & Men’s Fitness Super Bowl Party
In the 2010 Winter Olympics, the “Colbert Report” financially supported the US Speedskating unit as they competed in Vancouver
He used his power as TV show host to promote a fundraiser for the US Speedskating team after their sponsor collapsed during the financial meltdown. His efforts totaled to $300,000 that were used to cheer on the team on the less popular Winter Olympic Games.
He is a yogi in training.
In 2009, Colbert and Matthew McConaughey were ranked the same position for the sexiest Yoga Dork’s male celebrity yogi
Carson Daly – Last Call
A photo posted by Carson Daly (@carsondaly) on Sep 15, 2015 at 6:15am PDT
In 2015, his goal was to lose weight, Daly shed off 30 pounds through dedication and hard work and he continues to maintain his healthier weight.
Upon approaching his 30s, he reveals his growing desire to “eat healthy and be healthy”
Changing his dietary and fitness habits helps him concentrate on the important things of life and work.
Daly credits the blissful California weather for encouraging him to workout.
He’s been recognized as a Health Hero by WebMD in 2014 for his efforts to promote sustainable fresh foods by building gardens for children in Brooklyn.
He enjoys SoulCycle- a high-intensity spinning class

Jimmy Fallon – The Tonight Show
A photo posted by Jimmy Fallon (@jimmyfallon) on Feb 1, 2015 at 10:18am PST
He once had a fitness face-off with First aLdy, Michelle Obama, on his show and lost.
Jimmy is motivated to live a healthy lifestyle so he can stay ahead of his busy schedule.
His green juices contain spinach, parsley, and “God knows what else is in it,” Jimmy joked.
He likes a hearty bowl of salad and getting his omega fats from fish oil supplements.
Jimmy likes golfing.
He often hits the gym with a trainer.
After being the host of the Tonight’s show, he perceives his responsibilities like a boxer on a streak and going on multiple rounds.
Jimmy had to adjust his lifestyle to keep up with the demands of his show. Nowadays, he prioritizes self-care by swapping his night outs for more rest time.
Chris Hardwick – Midnight
A photo posted by Chris Hardwick (@hardwick) on Sep 2, 2016 at 2:11am PDT
He continues to practice abstinence ever since he stopped drinking in 2013.
Hardwick has shed an incredible 40 lbs since his commitment to giving up alcohol.
Being physically active and improving his diet has helped reset his mindset after going through a bump in his life. He no longer tries to make excuses for not being active.
“I humbly place my low point at your feet and tell you that if you’re thinking about making improvements in your life, TODAY IS THE DAY TO START. Quitting drinking, starting exercising, eating better, pursuing your passion, hugging more puppies–whatever it is. Don’t think about it. Just do it. Over-thinking the “hows” and “why comes” will put you in a neverending loop of inactivity. You have the power and ability to change the future with a simple “pro-you” decision” he has said.
Jimmy Kimmel – Jimmy Kimmel Live!
A photo posted by Jimmy Kimmel (@jimmykimmel) on Apr 9, 2016 at 11:44am PDT
Enjoys sport fishing
He multitasks by utilizing his treadmill desk at work ever since 2012.
His decision to get a treadmill desk came after he “read somewhere that sitting all day can cut 15 or 20 years off your life… [which is] worse than smoking.” He believes that “we weren’t meant to sit this much” so he decided to change this by upgrading his office.
Kimmel commonly critiques fad diets and workouts. He doesn’t take them seriously and promotes more sustainable approaches that place a priority on being healthy rather than solely losing weight.
Conan O’Brien – Conan
A photo posted by CONAN (@teamcoco) on Sep 29, 2016 at 7:34pm PDT
In a humorous segment, he did a workout session with fellow actor Kevin Hart and trainer Jen Widerstrom this year. Although he was not as fit as Hart, O’Brien demonstrated his impressive stamina at 53 years old.
He has a love for bikes and biking. In fact, O’Brien supported The Challenged Athlete Foundation and The Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation by participating in an online bike auction. These organizations were both cherished by O’Brien’s late friend, Robin Williams, who also gifted him a Colnago bike worth at least $2,000.
Good music keeps him going. You can find his workout playlist is available on the Rdio app.
Seth Meyers – Late Night: Seth Meyers
A photo posted by @sethmeyers on Aug 8, 2015 at 9:59am PDT
He sticks to a consistent routine of running an average of 4 days a week.
Meyers sets aside 3 days each week to weight train.
He likes to start his day with a refreshing glass/bottle of juice.
Instead of restrictive dieting, Meyers prefers to manage his weight and health by eating once every 4 hours.
Meyers participated in the 2012 Cycle For Survival to raise funds supporting rare cancer research.
He is a firm believer of hopeful perseverance after meeting many inspiring cancer survivors.
John Oliver – Last Week Tonight
A photo posted by Last Week Tonight (@lastweektonight) on Aug 15, 2016 at 6:43am PDT
Oliver has a soft spot for soccer and admits in a Rolling Stone interview that he still dreams of being a soccer player.
Oliver shuns the sugar industry and its unsustainable tactics that are detrimental to health.
In 2016, he bought and forgave $15 million of medical debt.
Despite the limited information currently available on his personal health regime, Oliver has a pivotal role in putting the spotlight on health. He has spoken on nutritional topics such as the chicken industry standards, Dr. Oz’s show, etc.

How Weinstein And The Hollywood Machine Created ‘Good Guy’ Matt Damon
http://fashion-trendin.com/how-weinstein-and-the-hollywood-machine-created-good-guy-matt-damon/
How Weinstein And The Hollywood Machine Created ‘Good Guy’ Matt Damon
Shortly before “Good Will Hunting” hit theaters in December 1997, Matt Damon bought two duffel bags from Walmart. The movie’s buzz had escalated. Its benefactor, Harvey Weinstein, was plotting an awards campaign, and Damon was suddenly spending a lot of time in hotel rooms, with access to four-star room service and fitted suits.
As almost any profile of Damon will tell you, the scrappy 27-year-old from Boston had spent the decade before clawing his way into Hollywood. And then, a short six months after “Good Will Hunting” opened, he would need those duffel bags for more nights spent in hotel rooms while promoting “Saving Private Ryan,” a Steven Spielberg epic that would earn him another ticket to an Oscar ceremony.
This contrast — between Walmart luggage and Spielberg-flanked red carpets ― encapsulates Damon’s archetypal movie-star narrative: a persevering outsider heads to Tinseltown, sleeps in low-rent apartments, works odd jobs to foot the bills and accepts whatever roles he can find, hoping somehow to land a so-called break. It’s the American Dream, fed to the masses in pithy interview anecdotes and packaged for big screens across the country.
And it’s the narrative that, 20 years ago, in conjunction with the Oscar he and Ben Affleck won for their “Good Will Hunting” script, turned the little-known Damon into the primo good guy next door ― an image that defined him, without fail, until Weinstein’s sexual misconduct scandal and a few unwoke gaffes reframed the Matt Damon Persona we’ve long accepted.
The thing is, that persona was heavily produced and reliant on a collective nostalgia for a star who, just like us, totes around duffle bags and dresses in blue jeans. Damon’s rise to fame was so clean and simple that he never needed to update his image even as the times changed — and that’s exactly why now we’re wondering just how much we didn’t know about Mr. Matthew Paige Damon.
To understand the Matt Damon Persona, we have to consider the ubiquity of polished celebrity images. Any well-regarded celebrity embodies a distinct ideal that informs how we relate to ― or at least envy ― them and what makes them a marketable brand. Usually, that image is born out of the thing that first drove the person’s fame, though nothing crystallizes without the help of savvy agents and publicists. An image can be reshaped or refracted with time, but it never escape its origins entirely.
Audrey Hepburn is still plastered on dorm-room walls as the personification of classic, elegant beauty. Viola Davis will forever be the actress who bolted onto the screen in one scene-stealing “Doubt” showdown with Meryl Streep. Even when Tom Cruise makes oddities like “Eyes Wide Shut” and “Magnolia,” he’s still the energetic blockbuster hero. Winona Ryder can star on a Netflix juggernaut, but she’ll always be the edgy outsider we met in “Beetlejuice” and “Edward Scissorhands.” Warren Beatty can settle down with Annette Bening, but only as a commentary on his years of Lothario notoriety.
That said, few Hollywood luminaries hit the mainstream with an image as clearly outlined or as beloved as Matt Damon, which is a large part of why he hasn’t changed much in our eyes over the years. Revisiting coverage of Damon from the late ’90s, every piece frames him as a hard-working tenderfoot who’d determined that if he had any hope of a career in movies, he’d have to write one himself. That narrative of gumption was further solidified with his and Affleck’s shouty, wide-eyed Oscar speech, which they so happened to deliver during the “Titanic” year, aka the most-watched telecast in the awards’ history.
The story goes: After dropping out of Harvard in 1992, Damon hustled for parts, attempting to earn his Serious Actor credentials by shedding 40 pounds for a supporting gig in the 1996 thriller “Courage Under Fire.” Meanwhile, he grew tired of going on endless auditions (“Primal Fear,” “Batman & Robin”) and reading scripts that Chris O’Donnell (LOL) and Leonardo DiCaprio had passed on. Lucky for him, Francis Ford Coppola wanted to cast an unknown in 1997′s “The Rainmaker,” right around the time that such John Grisham adaptations were guaranteed box-office gold. Damon and Affleck had already sold the “Good Will Hunting” screenplay to Miramax, but progress stalled as Weinstein, the distribution company’s tempestuous overlord, squabbled over which director to hire and whether to boot Damon and Affleck in favor of stars like DiCaprio and Brad Pitt.
But the minute Damon booked “The Rainmaker,” everything changed. Weinstein “took a chance” on the “Hunting” boys, and Damon quickly segued into hot projects like “Saving Private Ryan,” “Dogma” and “The Talented Mr. Ripley” (even though DiCaprio had turned down the latter).
Combined, those four movies form one of the most auspicious breakthroughs in modern cinema, a perfect blend of commercial appeal and art-house prestige. Suddenly, Damon was trying on Calvin Klein suits he’d never imagined wearing; eyeing the type of career Ed Harris had (read: not super Hollywood); ogling the fantasy of $10 million paychecks (in 2004, he would be paid a reported $26 million for the first Jason Bourne sequel); refraining from quoting “Forrest Gump” upon meeting Tom Hanks; appearing in tabloids for relationships with Winona Ryder, Minnie Driver and Gwyneth Paltrow; telling Oprah he slept on a Walmart air mattress after his Oscar victory; grinning about how “lucky” he was; and charming the pants off the media, which continually wrote about his killer smile, attractive-but-not-too-attractive looks, down-home wardrobe and exemplary manners.
None of this alone is all that striking. Most Hollywood newcomers arrive with some version of an outsider tale, and there’s no reason to believe Damon’s ingenuity was inauthentic. But Weinstein, who was just finding his own footing as award season’s most cutthroat campaign guru, took Damon’s debut a step further, presenting him as the platonic ideal of an everyman, enterprising liberal who proves just how well the white male celebrity machine can work.
In Peter Biskind’s revealing book Down and Dirty Pictures, Weinstein is quoted as inducting Damon and Affleck into the “Miramax family,” a small stable of talent whom Weinstein ushered to fame and turned into his mouthpieces (other members: Gwyneth Paltrow, Quentin Tarantino, Kevin Smith). Soon enough, Weinstein was carting Damfleck to Camp David to meet President Bill Clinton and first lady Hillary Clinton. (Only the good ones get to meet the prez!)
Later, when Damon felt he’d done enough photo shoots and media appearances to promote “Good Will Hunting,” Wesintein pushed him to do more, despite telling USA Today in 1999 that “to Matt, it’s not about the whole movie-star thing.”
It was the early 2000s when Damon’s cachet became seemingly indestructible. Even a couple of significant misfires ― “The Legend of Bagger Vance” (directed by Robert Redford) and Miramax’s “All the Pretty Horses” (directed by Billy Bob Thornton) ― couldn’t diminish that initial introduction. It didn’t hurt that Affleck, his ride-or-die with whom Damon was still customarily associated, suddenly made him look spotless by comparison.
Between 1998 and 2001, Affleck toplined “Armageddon,” “Forces of Nature,” “Bounce,” “Reindeer Games” and “Pearl Harbor” ― a stellar sequence, popularity-wise. But the attention had an adverse effect: Between 2001 and 2005, Affleck went to rehab for alcohol addiction, endured a tabloid-splashed divorce from Jennifer Lopez, starred in a series of critical and commercial disappointments (including the infamous “Gigli”), hit the cagey celebrity poker scene, and called his life a “slow-motion train wreck” during a “Saturday Night Live” monologue.
As Affleck’s reputation dipped, Damon landed the “Ocean’s” trilogy and headlined the never-ending Bourne series, married a non-celebrity in 2005, and earned another Oscar nomination for the 2009 drama “Invictus” ― all while maintaining a clean-cut media presence. Even though his salary had outgrown Miramax’s coffers, he still subscribed to the Weinstein playbook: Find a sweet spot between serious cinema and wholesale crowd-pleasers, and then schmooze, schmooze, schmooze.
“Matty and Ben are two people that Harvey strives every waking moment of his life to be in business with,” Kevin Smith told Biskind.
The fact that Damon no longer needed to be a member of Weinstein’s “family” made him seem cool, and yet the Matt Damon Persona remained something of a Weinstein production. Miramax paid the actor “a whole lot of money” for a cameo in Smith’s 2001 comedy “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.” Weinstein wanted to splash Damon on the poster and include him in the television ads, but according to Down and Dirty Pictures, Damon commanded him not to. Knowing how to retail his worth, the actor wanted his appearance in the movie to be a surprise.
Weinstein reportedly acquiesced until the last minute, deciding he needed Damon to help drive business. He called Damon, told him the news of his cameo had leaked and added him to the marketing ― building on the idea that this craftsman who wrote an Oscar-winning screenplay was affable enough to appear in something as frivolous as “Jay and Silent Bob.”
So it has continued throughout recent years: Matt Damon is so kind and so famous that being the butt of a bawdy Jimmy Kimmel joke is a badge of honor! He founded a nonprofit to give developing countries access to clean water! He’s a spokesman for a hunger relief organization! His liberal sensibilities let him pal around with Barack Obama!
But in 2015, the Matt Damon Persona started to show cracks, one after the next. During a controversial exchange on his HBO reality show “Project Greenlight,” he interrupted a black female producer to imply that diversity behind the camera is unimportant. The internet erupted with accusations of whitesplaining and mansplaining. Two weeks later, he lightly suggested that gay actors should stay in the closet so as to maintain a certain “mystery.” And a few months after that, he came under fire for misunderstanding the whitewashing accusations lobbed at the bonkers movie “The Great Wall,” in which European mercenaries descend upon China to fight a swarm of monstrous creatures.
That wasn’t enough to shatter him, though. A July 2016 GQ piece still likened him to ultimate nice guy Jimmy Stewart. “Matt Damon is, scientifically, the most liked man in Hollywood,” the first sentence read.
And then Weinstein re-entered the picture in late 2017, and the Matt Damon Persona went from cracked to shattered. After The New York Times published a career-ending investigation detailing allegations of Weinstein’s long-rumored sexual misconduct, former Times reporter Sharon Waxman said Damon had called her in 2004 to defend one of Weinstein’s accomplices, effectively helping to kill her investigation. Even though Waxman corroborated Damon’s claim that he had no knowledge of Weinstein’s misdeeds, the actor couldn’t avoid putting his foot in his mouth.
“I do believe that there’s a spectrum of behavior,” he said in an interview with film critic Peter Travers. “And we’re going to have to figure — you know, there’s a difference between, you know, patting someone on the butt and rape or child molestation, right? Both of those behaviors need to be confronted and eradicated without question, but they shouldn’t be conflated, right?”
It’s not that Damon is wrong, per se, but his flippant tone struck an unwelcome chord right amid the Me Too groundswell. And he took it a step further, going soft on alleged harasser Louis C.K. by saying, “I imagine the price that he’s paid at this point is so beyond anything that he ― I just think that we have to kind of start delineating between what these behaviors are.”
If nothing else, this reflected his wealthy-white-male privilege, something no one was talking about during Damon’s Weinstein-assisted rise to fame. The actor soon found himself apologizing on the “Today” show: “I really wish I’d listened a lot more before I weighed in on this. Ultimately what it is for me is that I don’t want to further anybody’s pain with anything that I do or say. So for that, I am really sorry. A lot of those women are my dear friends and I love them and respect them and support what they’re doing and want to be a part of that change and want to go along for the ride — but I should get in the backseat and close my mouth for a while.”
Closing his mouth for a while was a fine idea. But apologies and clarifications are increasingly hard to live down in the internet age, when an infinite loop of headlines and tweets can redefine a person’s polished image overnight.
Will Damon recover from these blunders? Sure, probably. But now his box-office power is in flux. In October, the misguided racial satire “Suburbicon,” directed by George Clooney, was eviscerated by critics and ignored by audiences. In December, “Downsizing,” the disappointing Alexander Payne dramedy once thought to be an Oscar contender, did so-so business at best. The only forthcoming project on Damon’s docket is June’s female-fronted “Ocean’s 8,” in which he is very much not the center of attention. In fact, nearly 30,000 people have signed an online petition to have him removed from the film because of his comments on sexual harassment.
And therein lies the boomerang that is the star-making machine. Weinstein helped construct the Matt Damon Persona, and he inadvertently helped tarnish it, too. Damon’s signature trait ― being normal, even boring ― became his detriment: He was so middlebrow that he didn’t really think critically about race or gender politics or what it means for public figures to own their sexuality.
For my money, the conversation isn’t about whether Matt Damon’s time in Hollywood should come to an end. We’re all learning how to rework the patriarchal power dynamics that have defined society for far too long. What Damon proves, instead, is how fallible the celebrity engine is. Hollywood images are constructed in implicit coordination among studio honchos, calculating publicists, an ever-evolving media and the public’s appetite for stars who offer some magical blend of the relatable and the aspirational.
No matter how much we think we know a famous person, there is always an artificial quality to what he or she presents to the world ― one that doesn’t fit into budget-priced duffel bags.

Andy Samberg - September 27, 2017
Recent Conan appearances:
September 19, 2016 -
Game of Thrones Spoilers (link)
Kit Harrington was Andy’s co-presenter at the Emmy’s and co-star in 7 Days in Hell.
Andy hated working with Kit because he heard the major Game of Thrones spoiler that Jon Snow had died.
Kelsey Grammer (link)
Worked with Kelsey Grammer in the animated film, Storks.
Sometimes during vocal warmups Grammer would slip into the voice of Sideshow Bob, his character on The Simpsons, which greatly excited Andy because he’s was a huge fan of that show.
Andy says the only work he’s ever done that would generate as much excitement in fans as hearing Grammer do the Sideshow Bob voice is “Dick in a Box.”
Throughout the segment, Andy refers to pictures he brought, which correspond to completely mundane references such as “happy,” “angry,” and a monkey dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow. (OK, that last one wasn’t mundane.)
Bill Clinton Collaboration (link)
The Lonely Island dreams of doing a musical collaboration with Bill Clinton, in which he would play the saxophone.
Samberg was recently at the same charity event as Bill Clinton, so he approached the former president to voice his collaboration dreams, but he broke down and started muttering jibberish.
Bike Shorts (link)
Tour de Pharmacy was a follow-up to his tennis mockumentary, 7 Days in Hell.
Wanted to make fun of biking culture, which Conan says he subscribes to right down to the lycra bike shorts. He even has a paparazzi photo to prove it.
Fire Cop Move (link)
Andy shows off another one of his cool cop moves, designed to show the Brooklyn Nine-Nine staff that he’s capable of doing stunts.
He goes backstage with a gun in order to “follow a perp,” gets set on fire, and re-emerges.
September 27, 2013 -
Transition from SNL (link)
Samberg says he’s adjusting “decently” from his time on SNL.
He finds that the hardest switch to network TV is that he has to be aware of many cameras at all times instead of simply reading cue cards. Because of such, he often finds himself accidentally staring directly into the camera.
Samberg wants to prove to his show’s producers his capability of doing action stunts, so he demonstrates to the audience how to slide on the ground and shoot a gun while “avoiding” gazing into the camera lens.
Wedding (link)
Samberg had gotten married the weekend before (at the age of 35).
The wedding was the “best day of his life” because he “finally lost his virginity.”
Jokingly told Conan he registered at Little Caesar’s.
Samberg invited Adam Sandler to the wedding, but was worried how Sandler would interact with his friends and family.
Sandler showed up at the rehearsal dinner dressed as his character in That’s My Boy, and continued to personally interact with Samberg’s loved ones throughout the weekend.
February 20, 2013 -
Failed SNL Sketch (link)
Drawing on his own experiences, Conan prompts Samberg if he wrote any SNL sketches he thought were hilarious, but didn’t make the cut.
Samberg recalls a sketch in which the main character continues asking everyone in a room if they want to accompany him to the bathroom.
Sketch was derived from the fact that the bathroom was very far away from SNL writer room, and Andy frequently asked for company because he notoriously got lonely very quickly.
Sketch made it to dress rehearsal once but it fell completely flat with the audience.
Samberg performs a bit of the sketch for Conan’s audience, who laugh, which Samberg appreciates as his “Make a Wish” moment.
Patriotic Romance (link)
Samberg was preparing to host Film Independent Spirit Awards, but all he can focus on is not making out with an eagle.
An eagle sitting in the audience approaches the stage, Andy makes out with it, wonders if the eagle has feelings for him, and then finds the eagle was just Brian Stack wearing a giant bird costume.
June 13, 2012 (CONAN Chicago) -
Ken Burns Joke (link)
Last time Samberg saw Conan, they were in Washington D.C. honoring Will Ferrell for winning the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.
Samberg and Conan both wrote jokes about Ken Burns, so Conan scrapped his for Andy, but PBS ended up cutting Andy’s joke from airing because they were afraid of Ken Burns.
Andy’s joke focused on Burns’ appearance, remarking that he looked like the product of a three-way between Rob Lowe, Stephen King, and a goatee.
Had recently announced retirement from SNL after seven seasons.
Samberg and Conan discuss late work nights.
Andy recalls story in which he and SNL writer Rob Klein left the studio around 5am to return to their apartments, which were close to each other. When they arrived at Klein’s place, Klein realized he forgot his keys in the studio, so Andy invited him to stay over at his place. As they both got out of the cab at Andy’s apartment, a giant gay black man emerged from his stairwell, handed them a condom, and in a high-pitched tone said “Have fun.”
Rahm Emanuel Impression and That’s My Boy (link)
Mayor Rahm Emanuel was on Conan the previous night.
Andy was assigned to impersonate Emanuel on SNL because he looked the most like him.
Samberg says the trick to impersonating him is to channel his pent up rage.
Samberg does an Emanuel impression in which he blows a gasket over the idea of someone cutting him in line at The Weiner Circle.
Andy originally found out about That’s My Boy, when he heard there was a role for Adam Sandler’s son if he had a son when he was 15, and Samberg thought it was his birth right to obtain the role.
Samberg called Sandler repeatedly to beg and offer one of his balls for the role, which Sandler said he hoped was not necessary.
Samberg describes Sandler’s role in the film as a “lovable dirtbag.”
Shooting G-String Gun (link)
In order to live out a fantasy of shooting a T-Shirt Gun, Samberg takes it up a notch and shoots a G-string gun into the audience.
Other talk show appearances (sorted in reverse chronological order):
Jimmy Kimmel Live! (September 27, 2017)
Fatherhood (link)
Andy has a baby daughter now!
He knows he’s turned into a father because he purchased a pair of Curry 3 Shoes, which he associates as being dad-wear.
Andy says his daughter has started making fart noises, so he has taught her everything he knows.
The Brooklyn Nine-Nine off-season aligned with his paternity leave, so now that he’s back at work, he’s refreshed to be met with people who will get him food and offer not to pee on him.
Andy comments that while his wife was pregnant, everyone was incredibly enthusiastic about his upcoming child, but as soon as the baby was born, everyone became very pessimistic about child-rearing.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine Cliffhanger (link)
The crew of Andy’s show didn’t find out whether they had been renewed for another season until very late, so they didn’t know if the Season 2 finale would be their final episode.
Season 3 begins with Jake and Rosa in jail.
The show shot in a real retired jail, located next to a warehouse of old cop supplies.
Andy shows a “self-explanatory” clip of a man in a cop uniform doing a sexy dance in an inconspicuous bedroom. He cites this clip from a movie called Cop Guy Dancing.
Taylor Swift vs. Katy Perry Feud (link)
Samberg was recently in a commercial with Taylor Swift, where she kicked him through a wall.
Through SNL, he has worked with both Taylor Swift and Katy Perry, but he chooses not to take a side in the feud because he “heard” Jared Kushner was in charge of mediating a peace accord between them.
Jimmy Kimmel Live! (June 16, 2017)
Oscars, Football, and Golden State Warriors (link)
Asks Kimmel about the Oscars’ Best Picture mix-up and whether he has had to “talk about it a lot.”
Loves the Golden State Warriors, so he’s very excited they won the Final, even though he can acknowledge that their roster is unfair.
He wanted to play football when he was younger, but his mom wouldn’t let him, so he played soccer instead.
Andy takes pride in playing soccer because it is the biggest sport in the world, but Kimmel compares stating that to David Hasselhoff stating to everyone he meets that he’s really famous in Germany. Andy likes to imagine Hasselhoff really says this.
Tour de Pharmacy Penis Jokes (link)
Tour de Pharmacy has a star-studded cast, predominantly including Orlando Bloom.
Andy describes the movie as a “penis heavy project.”
The film begins with Bloom exposing his penis to pee while he’s biking, which the producers believed would be hilarious because of its unexpected and shocking nature. However, a week after they finished shooting, photos of Orlando Bloom paddle boarding naked with Katy Perry emerged, which ruined the surprise of his penis.
Summer Camp (link)
Used to attend summer camp in Yosemite at Bass Lake, and eventually he became a counsellor there.
Because he had no skills, he was assigned to the counsellor position of Campfire Coordinator, which allowed him to pick the songs they would sing around the campfire.
One year Andy grew his hair long and stopped brushing him, which led to him returning to camp with dreadlocks.
Upon seeing his “white dreadlocks,” his camp friends held him down and shaved his head, which Andy identifies as the reason he was able to make out with a girl that night.
Jimmy Kimmel Live! (March 1, 2016) (link)
Andy attended the Oscars Vanity Fair After Party the night before, but he doesn’t remember it.
He had to shoot Brooklyn Nine Nine that morning (the morning after the party) which contributed to his unwell state during the interview.
He planned on not going to the after party due to a lingering illness, but his mom pressured him to go via FaceTime.
Late Night with Seth Meyers (September 12, 2015) (link)
Andy asks Seth to help him with his writing for hosting the Emmy’s because of their strong friendship (Seth was one of Andy’s groomsmen) and Seth’s prior writing help (he helped Amy Poehler and Tina Fey write their Golden Globes Monologue).
Andy frequently dresses up in ridiculous costumes for Seth’s hosting gigs.
Discusses the two kids of people in NorCal, which is where he met Akiva Schaeffer and Jorma Taccone, the two other members of the Lonely Island.
His film collaboration with Judd Apatow was set to premiere in June 2016 alongside the sequel to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie.
In efforts to boost his film’s own popularity, Andy prematurely starts a smear campaign against the Ninja Turtles, by accusing specific turtles of being racist and sex offenders.
Seth quizzes Andy on pronunciations of difficult celebrity names.
Seth relays Tina Fey’s Emmy advice for Andy to “keep it sexy.”
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (September 11, 2015) (link)
Andy Tweeted a picture of himself planking on the writer’s table for his Emmy’s hosting gig because he wants to bring planking back due to the plethora of “floppy cores” he sees on the street.
Andy planks on Jimmy’s desk, and Jimmy planks on top of him to create the especially rare, Double Plank.
Late Night with Seth Meyers (September 26, 2014) (link)
The Lonely Island’s headquarters are in the old office of singer, Babyface.
Babyface left a white piano in the office, so the Lonely Island boys put a signed photo of Babyface on the piano and left it in the office.
Andy has a screening room in his office, where he and the others frequently re-watch movies they’ve seen a million times way too late at night.
NOTE: In this same episode, Andy details a horror camping trip experience. I was unable to locate this footage due to European copyright laws.
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (September 25, 2014)
Mark Zuckerberg’s Facebook Assistance (link)
Andy’s Facebook account was set up by Mark Zuckerberg, and to this day, Zuckerberg is his only friend on his Facebook.
Andy started getting unwarranted emails and friend requests from Zuckerberg’s friends, so he texted Zuckerberg for tech support.
Andy Samberg’s Umami Partnership (link)
Recently won a Golden Globe.
Umami, a burger chain in L.A. approached Andy about designing a burger “because the syllable ‘burg’ was in his name.”
Andy had the idea to put the ingredients of a Chicago hot dog on a burger, partly because of his fellow Lonely Island member, Akiva Schaffer’s Chicago dog obsession. Sometimes this obsession compels Andy & co. to visit Joe Mantegna’s Chicago-style restaurant in Burbank.
Brought two “Samburgers” for him and Jimmy to try on-air.
Jimmy and Andy discuss other potential Umami collaborations including the Whoopiburger.
Late Night with Seth Meyers (March 11, 2014) (link)
Seth spoke to Andre Braugher at the Emmy’s, who solemnly admitted to learning a lot from Andy.
Seth was presenting with Julie Bowen at the Golden Globes in a category for which Andy was nominated.
When Julie saw Andy’s name in the winning envelope, she let Seth read it aloud, who proceeded to show a level of enthusiasm on par to that of a father for Andy.
Andy met Seth’s dog Frisbee when it was two months old and immediately disliked it because he said it looked like a rat. He also told Seth’s wife that he had seen rocks that were cuter than Frisbee.

Jimmy Kimmel's Baby Boy Helped End His Feud With Jay Leno: Jay and I Have Made Peace

Jimmy Kimmel's Baby Boy Helped End His Feud With Jay Leno: Jay and I Have Made Peace

For years, there was no love lost between late-night talk hosts Jimmy Kimmel and Jay Leno. But now, Kimmel says, they “made peace” after his emotional announcement about his baby boy.
In May, the Jimmy Kimmel Live! and 2017 and 2018 Oscars host said on his show that his wife Molly McNearney recently gave birth to their son William John Kimmel and that the newborn had undergone heart surgery for a congenital heart defect. He has since shared positive health updates about the baby.
“Jay and I have made peace,” Kimmel said on The Hollywood Reporter‘s Awards Chatter podcast last week. “After my son had his operation, he called me and he was very nice.”
“What he did was, you can’t argue with his success, his longevity,” he continued. “I will say, when I was in high school, going to college, he was one of my all-time favorite comics.”
Kimmel and Leno’s feud stems from NBC’s infamous 2010 Tonight Show shakeup.
Leno had taken over for iconic host Johnny Carson in 1992 and hosted the late-night talk show until 2009, after which Conan O’Brien was given the job. Leno then hosted the newly created The Jay Leno Show, which aired earlier. After seven months, following lackluster ratings for both his new series and The Tonight Show With Conan O’Brien, as well as a dispute with NBC over a proposed time slot change, Leno returned as host of The Tonight Show. O’Brien left the company and became the host of his own TBS late-night series, Conan.
Kimmel and Leno have traded harsh words about each other since the shakeup. On the Awards Chatter podcast, Kimmel said he was initially a fan of his rival David Letterman, who had famously feuded with Leno over the Tonight Show as well, and had “started off with a negative feeling” about the issue.
In 2010, Kimmel mocked Leno by impersonating him on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Also, two months before Leno returned to The Tonight Show, Kimmel appeared via satellite on The Jay Leno Show and joked about the shakeup. When asked, “What’s the best prank you ever pulled?” Kimmel responded, “I think the best prank I ever pulled was, I told a guy that five years from now, I’m going to give you my show, and then when the five years came, I gave it to him and then I took it back almost instantly.”
Kimmel talked about Leno and the Tonight Show shakeup again during an event at New York City’s 92nd Street Y in 2012, after it was announced Jimmy Kimmel Live! would be moving from 12:05 a.m. to a 11:35 p.m. time slot, pitting it against The Tonight Show.
“F–k him,” xfinity.com reported Kimmel as saying.
“As a comedian, you can’t not have disdain for what he’s done: He totally sold out,” Kimmel told Rolling Stone in 2013.
Also that year, Kimmel told Playboy, “I always feel bad if I hurt anybody’s feelings, but I don’t believe Jay Leno has actual feelings, and he doesn’t seem to be that worried about other people’s feelings.”
In a 2015 interview with TV Line, Leno slammed the Jimmy Kimmel Live! host, saying, “The most element you can have in doing a late night show is kindness. Because the show makes you arrogant. I think that’s Jimmy Kimmel‘s problem. I think he’s a talented guy, I think he’s funny. But he has a mean streak, and it comes across.”
“I never had any problems with the guy, but he chose to go after me,” Leno said on NBC’s Today show a few months later,” Leno explained. “And that’s fine, welcome to show business.”
Kimmel and Leno’s feud had already appeared to fizzle in 2014, when the latter star left The Tonight Show for the second time.
“Issues aside, 20 years at #1 is a remarkable achievement,” Kimmel tweeted at the time. “Congratulations and best wishes to @jayleno on an incredible run.”

8 Times Bill O'Reilly Clashed With Hip-Hop
8 Times Bill O'Reilly Clashed With Hip-Hop
Bill O’Reilly got the boot from Fox News on Wednesday (April 19), after several accusations of sexual harassment from colleagues and former co-workers surfaced against him. The longtime Fox News anchor of The O’Reilly Factor — known for his controversial statements about Beyoncé and, basically, everything else — has also had a history of targeting hip-hop on-air.
Below, we revisit the 67-year-old pundit’s hot takes on hip-hop and most heated moments with both rappers and R&B acts.
John Legend
In March, O’Reilly called veteran MSNBC reporter Andrea Mitchell “unruly” on Twitter after being escorted from a press conference for asking Secretary of State Rex Tillerson a question about Chinese threats of retaliation for U.S. anti-missile defenses in South Korea during a photo opp with Ukranian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkinon.
“She’s not your granddaughter, Billy. She’s a seasoned journalist asking important questions. You should take notes,” John Legend tweeted to O’Reilly.

Killer Mike
During a May 2015 appearance on Real Time With Bill Maher, Killer Mike had some choice words about O’Reilly. Responding to O’Reilly’s claims about hip-hop affecting Christianity (more on this in a moment), the Run the Jewels MC said, “I like Bill O’Reilly the character, but I hate how white people take him so seriously. He’s more full of s— than an outhouse. I’m gonna go in a black club and see Bill O’Reilly with a stripper on his lap, I guarantee you that. He’s as fictional as those books he writes.”
Ludacris
O’Reilly disturbed the peace when he ripped through Ludacris and successfully had his Pepsi ad campaign pulled in 2002. “I’m calling for all responsible Americans to fight back and punish Pepsi for using a man who degrades women, who encourages substance abuse and does all the things that hurt particularly the poor in our society,” the anchor said at the time.
Ludacris — who dedicated a line to O’Reilly on his song “Number One Spot” — addressed the fall of O’Reilly (as well as the recent Pepsi backlash) in an interview with Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club.
“The irony of it is crazy,” the Fate of the Furious star said. “It’s not my place to judge Bill O’Reilly the same way that he judged me. That’s how I feel about it. It’s a lot of maturity and a lot of growth. I’ve moved on past it. I’m thriving in life right now and all I can do is hope that Bill O’Reilly settles these issues and learns from whatever mistakes he may have made and also thrives. But it is definitely ironic that both Pepsi and Bill O’Reilly are both under fire right now.”

Jay Z and Jeezy
After Jay Z and Jeezy targeted George W. Bush at Barack Obama’s inauguration in 2008 and performed their “My President” collaboration that triumphantly states “My president is black” on the hook, O’Reilly and radio talk show host Dennis Miller called the display “low-class.” The Snowman then slammed O’Reilly and Miller on the remix: “Bill O’Reilly, eat a d—, nice try/ You’re really being a racist a–hole in a nice tie/ And tell Dennis Miller his show suck anyway/ And I’d rather watch Jimmy Kimmel any day.”

Beyoncé
There is no place reserved for O’Reilly in the BeyHive. Following the release of her self-titled album in 2014, O’Reilly targeted Beyoncé for promoting sex before marriage to young women within the black community, specifically with the steamy “Partition” video. He said that entertainers like Bey had an obligation to “protect children, not put out exploitive garbage that harms impressionable children.” Luckily, hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons was on-hand and defended the singer by calling her material “art” and calling her “a brilliant artist.” Of course, O’Reilly wasn’t having it.

Questlove
Last July, former first lady Michelle Obama delivered a poignant speech at the DNC about how slaves built the White House. O’Reilly’s reaction? Saying “slaves that worked there were well-fed and had decent lodgings provided by the government.” Cue Questlove, who fired back at the Fox News host (without saying his name) in a lengthy post on Instagram.
“Slavery was inhumane. Slavery was sadistic. Slavery was uncomfortable. Slavery was unjust. Slavery was a nightmare. Slavery was a despicable act,” he began. “I dunno if that man’s (never say his name) point is to troll at any cost whatsoever but his entire existence is 5 steps backwards for any progress made in humanity. My dismay is the percentage of people who get their news from memes/headlines/& sources to whom they have 0 clue is feeding them false information.”
Slavery was inhumane. Slavery was sadistic. Slavery was uncomfortable. Slavery was unjust. Slavery was a nightmare. Slavery was a despicable act. Slavery is the pebble whose ripple in the river still resonates on and on and on and on. I’d like to think most of you have common sense. But there is nothing more dangerous than a man in a suit pretending to be a journalist giving revisionist history on the ugliness that was slavery. What’s so fun and lighthearted about being shackled? being separated from your loved ones? Being molested and raped HOURLY, being branded with hot iron? being property? being castrated? being flogged? being malnourished? living in high stress conditions? forced to lay in your own feces? being sold in a heartbeat? suppressing ANY emotion (with the surprising exception of singing it was illegal —lashes or death–to read, write, “talk back” or “sass”, cry (how many of you heard “you better NOT cry before I give you something to cry about!”), get angry, or even more surprising LAUGHING (a plantation barrel of water was always in proximity to dunk ones head in so one could express emotions and suppress the sound as to not alert your overseer of your “sassing”—deep history I just learned about laughing and the slave period—the first recorded song “The Laughing Song” was the defiant “F%^k Tha Police” of its day (also where the term “Barrel Of Laughs” gets its origin)—I’m getting beside the point. I dunno if that man’s (never say his name) point is to troll at any cost whatsoever but his entire existence is a 5 steps backwards for any progress made in humanity. My dismay is the percentage of people who get their news from memes/headlines/& sources to whom they have 0 clue is feeding them false information. Human Trafficking in any form from today’s underage prostitution, to the private Prison System we exercise here in the US, to the Holocaust to 500 years of Slavery–and all other examples I’ve not mentioned is INHUMANE & Evil. —watch where you get your information from and the company you keep people.

Cam’ron and Damon Dash
Cam’ron and Damon Dash joined The O’Reilly Factor in 2003 to discuss the affects of hip-hop on America’s youth. While O’Reilly was supposed to be a moderator between the rap moguls and an elementary school teacher, who was claiming music like theirs was negatively influencing his students, the show’s host pretty much broke any illusion of impartiality as soon as he introduced Cam’ron as an artist who raps about “pimping and bitches, among other things.”
From there, it didn’t take long for things to fall apart during the nine minute segment. When O’Reilly consistently interrupts Cam’ron and Dash, the two eventually start to target him, with Cam’ron taunting him, “You mad… you mad… Where you get started Current Affair? I got dirt on you doggy!”

Hip-Hop in General
In 2015, O’Reilly blamed hip-hop for the decline of Christianity in the U.S. (yes, really). After a Pew Research study showed that the number of Americans who identify as Christian has dipped since 2007, the conservative talking head pointed the finger at hip-hop, saying, “There is no question that people of faith are being marginalized by a secular media and pernicious entertainment. The rap industry, for example, often glorifies depraved behavior. That sinks into the minds of some young people — the group that is most likely to reject religion.” Insert hashtag: #BoyBye.
