anybody else feel that being human is like being a long-time syndicated cartoon character watching the world get more complex while your own design stays the same until youre incongruous with the reality around you??

To clarify:
Using your phone while waiting: nobody minds if the volume is down
Using your phone to set reminders for appointments, medication, etc while still in the consult/clinic: great actually
Using your phone to show us photos of your pet’s bowel motions, urine colour, breathing effort or other behaviour that they won’t demonstrate in the clinic: wonderful. I promise it’s not weird to have a photo reel full of dog poop. (If it’s your dog)
Using your phone to type notes: totally fine, but you know most of us will type up notes or discharge instructions to print or email for you if you ask
Using a video call or putting the phone on speaker to allow someone who can’t be physically present to still contribute: completely fine, we did this all the time during lockdown. Just please introduce us to the person on the phone
Making a voice or video recording of instructions or an explanation: generally will be fine if you ask first
Filming the vet or nurse just doing their job: might be okay if you ask, but expect a No
Filming the pet while they are distressed, suffering or dying: probably not a great idea, are you really sure you want to keep that footage?
Filming someone else’s pet during the euthanasia: I’m going to politely suggest you don’t
Not to be all ‘old woman complains about phones’ but honestly somebody needs to say something to the (mostly) younger generation about using phones in the vet clinic.
If you’re in a consult room with your pet, we mostly want you to be handling or comforting that pet. We definitely want you to be telling us what’s going on with that pet.
I understand and ignore people taking one or two pictures of their pet on the exam room, but it is Not Polite to photograph or film me, as the vet doing my job, without asking. It’s frankly unnerving and weird.
I don’t mind people filming an explanation while I point at diagrams or whatever, if they’ve asked. But some people will try to film the whole consult, which is not the done thing. Firstly a consult room is meant to be private, secondly I want the pet owner to be involved with the pet, not their phone, and thirdly I don’t know what the things they’re filming are for. I assume it’s for Instagram content or something.
Particularly unnerving are people that try to film euthanasias. Firstly, I’d really prefer those people be present in the moment, for the pet’s experience. Secondly, what is anyone going to do with that footage? Rewatching it over and over won’t be healthy and won’t offer any additional closure, and deleting it will feel weird when it was such a significant moment.
Don’t get me wrong, phones are super useful for filming pet behaviour at home that they won’t display in the clinic, or showing me all the many colours that your dog has pooped out this week.
But the continuous, almost absent minded filming through a whole consult is not something that should be normalised.

Screen Suck
Featured Photo by Chris Yang on Unsplash A few weeks ago, I posted my intention to decrease my social media use. Thankfully after deleting many social media apps from my phone I have significantly decreased my social media use. However my overall screen time has not changed much. Around the time that I downloaded an app called Forest that is intended to help you focus by blocking access to most…

Ah thinking about the time someone said I sounded very against smartphones thinking about how apperanltly I can sound very anti technology even though my actual opinion is these things have both upsides and downsides, we should not structure our society to depend on them if it can be avoided, and with phones, specifically, the upside that you can have so many things in one Glowly Rectangle comes also with the downside that you have every thing, which leads to distractions and a lack of intentionality. If I'm watching a show on tv I'm sitting down and planning what I'm doing and thinking about what spending of my leisure time will bring me joy. If I'm messing around on phone I'm messing around, and so often afterwards it will feel like my time was neither productive nor relaxing, like the time just got wasted and slipped away like sand, and I think, wait, I didn't want to do any of this.
And yes I am typing this on my phone in bed before I even had breakfast because I may be aware of the problem but I haven't been able to fix it in myself.
(I've done things that helped somewhat but the problem is far form fixed)

This is a subject that really interests me because I (28 years old) had computer classes in grade school where learning how to efficiently type was a big focus. As a result I have a very high WPM (words per minute) count and am an excellent touch typer.
However, I've heard that they started phasing out computer classes in a lot of schools because it's assumed that kids/teenagers already know how to use a computer in this day and age. But smartphones are more popular than computers now, and as result a lot of Gen Z/Gen Alpha kids are able to text very quickly but their typing skills aren't as good.

[Toon x Mobster] Sir toon and his loyal men.
Tumblr media
This comes WAAYY way after Gavriel and Jack's relationship really takes off.
The other members were initially very against Gavriel and Jack's relationship, Gavriel Huffman included. However, Jack is eventually able to earn the respect of the other mobsters after proving himself able to protect both their boss [Gavriel] and the other members of their group, time and time again.
They swore to do him favors and other errands as a compensation for his benevolence. Jack himself didn't mean for this to happen, he just didn't want anyone to get hurt and his kind heart has won the group over in turn.

btw if you borrow dvds or cds from library you can rip them onto your own blanks or onto your hard drive or whatever. librarians don’t care and they won’t know if you do it or not
