update:

i found out the identity of the offleash dog who killed my beloved duck, splitzø, and that dog's owner. that dog is dead, which? 🦀🦀🦀🦀

i wanted to lay all the updates out here bc no one knows me IRL!

the dog's owner is an absolutely massive piece of shit, too. absolutely evil woman. that same dog has a history of issues with violence/aggression, and has also killed a flock of 8 chickens before.

the dog actually died giving birth to a litter of puppies. bc ofc she wasn't spayed, and the owner was NOT a breeder or professional of any kind. not even qualified to have a dog, period.

she worked for my neighbor, who she also withheld the incident from. she's since been fired, and he was delighted to get rid of her. she's caused him a LOT of problems.

my neighbor was absolutely distraught to hear about splitzø being killed, and even offered a duck from his own flock (politely declined). he really wants to meet me and offer his condolences in person. he understands disability and autism, too!! and he's trans-supportive!! he genuinely seems like a wonderful, compassionate man, and he understands how hard the loss has been.

i'm just so glad to have a fraction of closure and for the warmth and care we've been shown.

i'm just so glad that dog is dead, and can never hurt anyone ever again. afaik her puppies are fine, too.

Eden shakes her head, but the voices remain, haunting, reminding her that she's failed once again. Someone else is dead, because of her. Edmont, the man who graciously took her in after a banquet soaked in blood, is left grieving his son, because of her.

She couldn't stay there. She didn't deserve to share in his loss, as painful as it was. She had left, ignoring Alphinaud's calling after her, striding out of Ishgard and whistling for Paprika, taking to the sky upon the Bennu to go somewhere, anywhere, that would be far away from that man's agonized sobs.

Anywhere, as it is, has become the Chocobo forest in Dravania, where Paprika dropped her off before taking to a cliff where he could perch and rest with little worry of getting harrassed by a wyvern, leaving Eden alone with her thoughts.

And so she has wandered the woods for the last two days, staying out of reach of outside contact, human or otherwise, lest she be discovered before she's ready for company again.

She can't face anyone as she is now, struggling to contain her emotional state. They need Eden Azalea, Warrior of Light, the woman with wit and charm and always a joke to bring a smile, with the confidence to fell primals effortlessly, not the pensive, self-loathing woman hiding in the woods at this moment.

Eden leans against a tree, folding her arms and closing her eyes as another wave of shame and hatred washes over her. She refuses to let a tear fall; to cry would be to open the floodgates, to give in to everything she's been holding back all this time...

...to let her escape.

There will never be another Whitebrim incident. She will keep that part of her locked away, forbidden from seeing the light of day ever again. As will be this fresh blow to her soul, once she can contain it and return to Ishgard to greet her companions with nothing less than the smile they deserve.

So lost is Eden in her thoughts, her eyes shut to the world, that she barely registers the footsteps approaching her.
