If you want to save time, take a flight from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh. It takes only 45 minutes, a great way to escape the traffic and long-hour journey.
But if you want to get the most out of your holiday in Cambodia, a journey via land transfer is the best way to see the authenticity of the country landscape.
Whichever way you take, ASIA For Holiday will arrange per your request: https://asiaforholiday.com/

Day 32: All vacations must come to an end
Today is the final day. We depart Phnom Penh at 11:30AM, which meant I had to be at the airport around 9AM ish.
While I thought I had my last meal the night prior, I was mistaken. My aunt had woken up at 4AM to make me one of my favorite dishes before leaving today.
Nom pajok namyah
In addition to this, my cousin had purchased the night prior some grilled beef sticks for me from my favorite place called Yey Saht Saw (grandma’s white hair). It was a perfect meal before leaving Cambodia. After breakfast, I ate fresh fruit my aunt had purchased from the market: mangosteen and rambutan. This was a heavy breakfast, but shit I don’t care. It’s like dinner time in America, so I treated it like that.
When we got to the airport, my mom and I checked in and went back outside to hang out with our family before it was time to go. We talked a lot and my cousin was nice enough to buy us some blizzards from DQ because it was hot. It was very nice gesture. Sadly, I couldn’t eat much because I was full.
I was surprised to see that even though we are not in America, my mom is a popular person. She happened to run into a friend of hers from Oregon at the airport. Her friend’s daughter lives in Seattle. My mom’s friend network keeps growing.
I look like a boater! Long hair don’t care
As that time approach, we said our final goodbye to my cousin and aunt. We profusely waved goodbye to them as we entered the airport. In Phnom Penh, only customers with passports are permitted to enter their airport. Everyone else must wait outside.
When my mom and I arrived at our gate after security, we sat there and reflected on our time in Cambodia.
We both were very happy about our trip. No issues. No fights. Great food. Great fruit. Great family. Nice weather. Lots of travel. Great experiences. We are going to miss Cambodia. Our next stop is Hong Kong where we have an 18 hour layover, then to LA where we have a 4 hour later, then my mom goes to Seattle and I go back to Oakland.
Bittersweet, while I miss my friends back in the states. I’m going to miss my family in Asia.
I am so happy to have kept this blog during my journey. I want to remember this experience my entire life. It was the trip where I learned about my mom’s life before the genocide. It’s the trip where I learned I come from a large family. It’s the trip where I gained a lot of perspective. It’s a trip where things started to become full circle. It’s a trip where I became closer to my mom. It’s a trip where I feel very fortunate to have experienced it with my mom.
Growing up, we never took a vacation together. The best we did was attend a wedding out of state together. But I would be reclusive and introvertive. I would stay quiet and keep to myself. It took 26 years for me to finally have a trip like this with my mom. If I have to wait another 26 years for something like this, I would wait. This trip was very special to me.
BUT, I hope it’s sooner than that. Maybe in the next year or two, we can do another one!
Until then, I’ll relive my experiences through this blog.
Joom reap leah Srok Khmer. Leah houwy and Aw kun ch’ran!
