‘ AIN’T MET VERY MANY REAL MEN , THEN . ’ it’s said with a grin , a chuckle , but she’s not joking all that much . phil’s met plenty of men , and by her reckoning she’s a great deal braver than the lot . too many have run at the first sign of a monster—even more at the first sign of their being wrong . she knows she’s proud , and stubborn , but phil also knows when to accept that she’s incorrect and learn from it . ‘ they like to talk a big game and then faint as soon as somethin’ ugly rears it’s head . and then i gotta deal with it . ’
her grin widens as she takes a peanut from the bag in her hand & tosses it into the air , catching it in her mouth . with the well-practiced trick accomplished , she turns her piercing gaze back on him . ‘ well , damn , maybe i’m the real man ! ’
