My mind wants to keep busy and be creative where my body wants to take it easy and relax. It’s interesting finding a balance in these situations. Most of the time caring for my plants has been the perfect solution, enough attention to keep my mind busy but also relaxing and a perfect way to unwind. A lot of our plant collections started this way. Needing that type of hobby that wasn’t necessarily a craft but rather something that you needed to tend to and keep pouring work and love into. That base need also turned into wanting to collection rare plants for me as well. Here I have my Philodendron 'El Choco red' which I originally thought was just a different type of Verrucosum🤦🏻‍♀️ but it has really taken to the apartment and put out this new leaf recently! The veins are a glowing green and the back is a beautiful red😍 there is some stubble on the petiole that are also brownish greenish red in color. Which is why I’m guessing it was thought to be a Verrucosum. I’m constantly fascinated by Philodendrons and their many forms, colors, patterns and textures. I would even say this is one is one of my favorite philos as of late🤩 Which is your favorite Philodendrons? • • • • • #apartmentbotanist #apartmentplants #apartmentliving #philodendronelchocored #apartmenttherapy #plantstyling #iplanteven #houseplantclub #houseplants #urbanjungle #urbanjunglebloggers #plantsmakespeoplehappy #plantsarefriends #plantparenthood #plantobsessed #plantcollection #plantcommunity #nyc #newyorkcity #livingwithplants #plantssparkjoy #indoorplants #indoorjungle #indoorgarden #philodendronfanatic (at New York, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/BwmwpNUA8D7/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1f9rrdxkc98nc

Got some bucket list plant babies today!!! Pics 1 and 2 are philodendron melanochrysum, or melano. They originate from Colombia. They have velvet leaves and climb. Younger plants have copper colored leaves and older plants will have large, black-green leaves with cream colored veins. Pic 3 is a philodendron rubrijuvenile, or "El Choco Rojo/Red." It comes from Ecuador and Colombia. It has large, pillowy, velvet top, heart shaped leaves with vibrant red undersides of the leaves. Pic 4 is a philodendron Paraiso Verde. It has elongated, heart shaped leaves with a marbled variegation. I cannot wait for these babies to grow more!! #plants #plantmom #plantbabies #philodendron #philodendronelchocored #philodendronmelanochrysum #elchocored #melanochrysum #philodendronparaisoverde https://www.instagram.com/p/CiL_vPdM_GA/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Are these philodendron el choco red? Isn’t the the red back the distinctive feature for them? via: https://t.co/9epUziljfy

My Philodendron Rubrijuvenile, aka El Choco Red, is finally putting out decent growth and I’m so happy about it. Although I think this is my problem child when it comes to the gnats so once this leaf is done hardening off I’m going to repot it into a different pot with fresh soil and hopefully that solves the problem. If not I have some mosquito dunks as a backup.
It seems to love the self watering pot I made though so before I repot it, I want to see if I can find a slightly larger self watering pot that I actually like the look of and that doesn’t take up too much space.

My Philodendron El Choco Red is finally putting out normal shaped leaves! This plant really struggled when I first got it and I considered getting rid of it but I’m so glad I didn’t. I’m now finally excited to really start seeing new growth from it!

My problem child. For whatever reason the roots just don’t get any stronger and it just pushes out these little leaves. I’m trying a self-watering pot now to see if I notice any difference. This Philodendron El Choco Red (or Rubrijuvenile) is on my list of plants I might get rid of.

More plants because why not?!
Alocasia Dragon Scale, Philodendron El Choco Red, and Philodendron Majestic.
I’m super excited about the Philodendron but even the Alocasia is super cute. However I think these will be the last plants I buy for some time as I’ve officially run out of space again.
Although I do want a Fanny Moser Begonia eventually haha!

TheGreenEscape on Etsy restocked Philodendron El Choco Red starter plants so of course I had to order one in the middle of the night.
But you can’t just order one plant so I also ordered a starter Philodendron Majestic and starter Alocasia Dragon Scale because why not?
Now I have to make space and buy some more pots before they get here. 🥴
