Okay don't come at me for this but I 100% judge any and all Les Mis adaptations almost completely by their design and characterization of Javert.
Like if he's not on point then I'm sorry, I'm done, I can't.
#i love the other characters but still#and also by how much romantic tension there is between him and Jean Valjean#No hes not my favorite character why do you ask?#les mis#les miserables#les amis de l'abc#Javert#jean valjean#valvert#barricade boys#Les Mis manga#les mis arai#takahiro arai#the brick#phillip quast#russel crowe

And that's a wrap on our second Valvert Week!
Thank you everyone who participated! It's always so fun to do this week with how diverse the fandom is. Both in fan content but in main media. We have people who love Phillip Quast, Les Mis 2000, non-replica musicals, book fans, surprisingly a lot of fans of Les Mis 1978 who awaken to deliver some quality content like a whale fall
None for the 1982 version. I can only hold hope for the next time, I'm pretty sure that's a me-only target audience.
I will keep reblogging things to this blog if you tag it tho! Late works are still good, but I will check the tag less frequently
Thank you thank you everybody!!

you got good ass takes on minos and sisyphus hows The Lady and the Tiger by tmbg as a those two guys type of song ? I need peer review on my song associations lol. also do you have any songs you associate with any ultrakill characters ?
It's a very interesting and spicy song for those two, cause in this song, Minos' opinions is represented by the tiger, the more dangerous choice. I like it!
As for my songs for the blorbos, OH BOI YOU UNLOCKED AN UNSKIPPABLE CUTSCENE
Below is a bunch of songs and who they're for. Some even has explanation
Gabriel
This Is Love by Air Traffic Controller - damn near a gabv1el anthem. A homoerotic AND homicidal lovesong. Literally the third line is 'I'm an idiot for thinking this was anything but blood'
Dear Wormwood by The Oh Hellos - Gabriel to the Council
Kaiserion by Ghost - same vibe as above, with more anti-christianity vibes
Bitter Water by The Old Hellos - Minos/Gabe, in an anticipatory grief, doomed yaoi kind of way
V1
Would That I by Hozier - highly specific Gabv1el with Minos/Gabe former relationship
Stars from Les Mis (Phillip Quast version)
V2
The Plague by the mountain goats - imo V1 was never made to give much of a shit aboyt humans. It's almost vindictively happy at seeing humanity's hubris catching up to them at last
The Toy Soldier's Song by The Mechanisms (Gunpowder Tim vs The Moon Kaiser) - loyalty is a lot to ask of a weapon, the song
Want You Gone from Portal 2 and Still Alive from Portal
Cry for Judas by the mountain goats - 'But I am just a broken machine, and I do things that I don't really mean'
A Sadness Runs Through Him by The Hoosiers - Gabriel/V2. The story of guard dogs who had bad owners
Minos
Sisyphus
Cirice by Ghost - Minos/Gabe that started out as Minos manipulating Gabe into siding with him a la Drowning Man (fic)
The Music of The Night from The Phantom of The Opera - slow, powerful and seductive. If charisma itself is a song
Ferryman by Shayfer James - despite the name, this is a Minos song. There's a certain indifference to shitty lovers and the insignificance of individual humans that fits him well
Run to You by Pentatonix - Minos/Sisyphus post-Prime. The specific amv scene I have in mind is 'Minos finds him bleeding out after fighting V1 and they share a few moments. Sisyphus realizes that maybe, he did regret one thing'
For the Departed by Shayfer James- Minos/Sisyphus, depicting their final moments before Gabriel arrives in Greed
Villainous Thing by Shayfer James - Sisyphus to Gabriel. An understanding between people who care about Doing Right, but hold too much anger to take the respectable route. Plus a bit of flirting <3
Ferryman
The Moon Will Sing by The Crane Wives - Ferrygabe resentment song <33 They fucking hate what he made them into
Obsessed With You by The Orion Experience - self explanatory
Others
Body by Mother Mother - self explanatory 2. That one piece of unadded ferryman lore hakita dropped is the gift that keeps on giving
Cupid by Fifty Fifty - lmao
Bury My Mother Pale and Slight by Amalgemotion - Virtues song. The chorus is directly calling to Gabriel as 'the knight' who will bring them freedom. I like to think that 'the king' mentioned here is God
For Narmer from Warframe- Sisyphean Insurrectionists
Like The Dawn by The Oh Hellos- Hell/Lucifer
Nothing Changes from Hadestown - The Council
Living in The Light by Ridiculon - The Council

What are your thoughts on long-haired Javert? Do you prefer a more historically/book-accurate version?
I strongly dislike ponytail Javert...! ...Though I know saying that may come off as me being a party-pooper of sorts. I genuinely understand why people like it! It's a very attractive look...! I liked it too, initially coming from the musical (Phillip Quast i would die for you, etc)!... But it's not him. I understand that the musical is, in a way, a different sort of type of canon, even if it is an adaptation at the end of the day... and in the musical, that version of Javert has a very specific look that tends to be pretty consistent in all the casting, costuming, and in general appearance (hair, fashion, etc) but... Mm. I won't turn this into a rant about how I feel about the musical, I promise, lol The fandom can do whatever it wants, and I'm always happy to see fanart of any kind, and I hope this doesn't come off as me applying any of this to fanworks at all-- But... tbh, There are a lot of little things about Javert's appearance that just sort of get lost in translation (metaphorically and literally), and I've learned to get used to it, but I can't deny that when I open a new illustrated copy or put in a film adaptation I haven't seen, I get a little disappointed when the Javert doesn't actually look like Javert. The main characters are described so vividly detailed in the book, and I feel it's a shame when all that's discarded, especially for the sake of the characters looking conventionally attractive. To answer your question, I vastly, vastly prefer how he appears in the actual canon-- for various reasons, not just historical accuracy, though that is a big part of it for me. I just... love weird-looking-yet-awe-inspiring-and-scary Javert! I think his, uh, bowlcut is sort of charming... in a way... and shows a lot about his character-- Like how his bangs are so long that they practically fall into his eyes, which is another one of his many 'concealers'... but he keeps the rest of it very neat and tidy and "cropped short", which is another of his many dog metaphors. Cropped ears/tail on a mastiff, etc etc.
#i really dont mean to sound like a snob but hrrrr#THANK YOU for your question!!!! very much!!!#fc consternation tag

I see you mention Les Miz in some of your asks!! Do you like the musical too or just the book? 👀
YES. It was one of the first musicals I developed an affinity for after The Phantom of the Opera (over a decade ago...). I believe most people who decide to pick up the Brick do so due to the musical, and the book has many details and hilarious moments that the musical simply does not have the time for.
I will give you some of my unsolicited opinions complete with links and extraneous details under the cut.
Favourite albums: The 10th Anniversary Concert supplemented by The Complete Symphonic Recording. Some of the songs were shortened or cut in the concert, hence the supplement (such as “Javert's Arrest” with the electric guitar). The symphonic version has full instrumentals and dialogues that typically are not featured. I also think the French album is neat, and I like the different translation nuances.
Favourite concert production: The 10th Anniversary Concert. The cast is phenomenal in general with Colm Wilkinson (the original Jean Valjean), Phillip Quast (one of the best Javerts), Ruthie Henshall as Fantine, and Michael Ball as Marius (I don't like him as Javert in later productions, however), although the Enjolras sounds a tad too American to me. The 25th Anniversary Concert is an honourable mention for its talented cast, including Alfie Boe as Jean Valjean, Norm Lewis as Javert, Katie Hall as Cosette, Ramin Karimloo as Enjolras, and Hadley Fraser as Grantaire (if you are familiar with the 25th Anniversary version of Phantom of the Opera, you may recognise the latter two as Erik and Raoul, respectively). You will hear people complain about Nick Jonas being casted as Marius, but in his defense, he was only 17 years old at the time, and his singing is not that bad.
2012 Musical Movie: My opinion is an unpopular one, but I actually don't dislike the film. The singing isn't as unbearable as everyone says, and it is largely the questionable directing choices that caused issues to be aggravated further. It's nostalgic to me much like the 2004 Phantom of the Opera movie. When I introduce people to the musical, the film is the first thing I show them primarily because the plot is easier to see than from bootlegged stage productions. Also, Russell Crowe's Javert is probably the most pathetic, soggy iteration of Javert (with the 1978 film shortly after), and I think his struggle to sustain notes fits his interpretation of the character. Hugh Jackman's Valjean is a warm-hearted DILF, which I find a lot better than some other non-musical movies/shows that make him unnecessarily violent and aggressive (the 1998 film, and I hear the BBC miniseries). Aaron Tveit as Enjolras is also a fan-favourite, and I enjoy Samantha Barks' Éponine.
My current blog title is actually a reference to "Javert, t'es amoureux" by Jean Vallée. It is not from the musical, but it's wonderfully melodramatic and the fact that the singer played Javert in the original French stage cast is hilarious to me.
#your yandere#aidoneus asks#les miserables#Guess who my favourite characters are?#I can talk even more about the book as well#Or The Phantom of the Opera

The question is, which Javert? Russell Crowe or Phillip Quast?
Phillip Quast! I'm not a basic bitch!! 🤣 I have some standards. Russell Crowe is wish dot com Javert. "We have Javert at home" Javert. Diet Coke Javert.

Full disclosure idk that much about Shattered Glass but I think that a good SG AU of a MagsMegs relationship (either romantic or platonic) would basically be the plot of Les Mis.
SG Megatron seems like he's got that Jean Valjean (tired old man oh whoops I accidentally became a father figure to these eighty random children and if I don't help literally every old woman I see on the side of the street I'm literally the most horrible person alive) energy.
And SG Magnus is basically Javert. (Well, regular Magnus is Basically Javert, but SG Mags seems like he's got the more, There is no such thing as mercy and you filthy peasants decepticons are predisposed towards being filthy criminals and I will personally and happily crack down on you with no restraint the second you take a step out of line, side of Javert.)
Just think:
Megatron escaping prison or the mines or something and starting to become his regular self, but then he meets someone (like the mistress of flame or something idk) and their like, no, you csn still be redeemed (but my fr ie n d, you left so e a r l y!). And he has all of Valjean's Moral Existential Crises while he's in hiding.
And Magnus is like, that damned con, no one escapes my clutches, I'm gonna track him down n o M A T T E R W H A T!
And I really like the idea of them getting along when Megatron is Mssr Madeline under a false identity or something, and Mags being like, you know, he's not that bad actually, Respect.
And then Megs chooses to reveal himself to save someone and goes on the run.
And Magnus looses his shit. And now he's like, that aBSOLUTE BASTARD ILL KILL HIM FOR THIS.
(This I SWEAR BY THE STAAAAAAAARRRRSSSSSS!!!
(I'm totally picturing Phillip Quast as the voice of Mags))
Idk who Cosette or Fantine would be in this scenario. Maybe Cosette would be like, Soundwave.
(I think that might work for SG Soundwave.)
And Starscream would be Marius!
And Eponine would be like, Shockwave, maybe (there's a whole lot of stuff about SkW being secretly in love with SS)
And then eventually the whole Revolution thing happens, though I guess Megs would be the leader of it as well, way more involved than JVJ actually was.
And the Decepticons would be the Les Amis!
And Rumble would be Gavroche!
Oh no
And then Mags goes undercover in the revolution as Minimus, but then he gets caught and EVERYONE wants to kill him but Megs is like, no, I'll do it myself, and then secretly let's him go.
And everything goes horribly and Megs rescues Starscream as well cause he's like, ugh, gotta make my child happy.
And Mags confronts him like, hands up you bastard...wait, why are you helping the street rat....wait, why are you coming with me willingly.
And Megs is like, naw, I forgive you. You're not that bad.
(There's nothing that I blame you for. You've done you're duty nothing more....)
(I'm crying)
And Magnus goes into an existential crisis because 1) decepticons and all criminals are supposed to be self serving irredeemable bastards and 2) no one's ever shown him kindness in his entire life (maybe not since his bro??)
And he still can't deal with this right now and throws himself off a fucking bridge
And Megatron dies because he's a sad, tired old man and his child don't need him no more and he's done all the good he can
And the whole ending and everything is still just as sad except now it's worse.
#I was listening to Javert's suicide by Phillip Quast and then this happened#I would actually read a fic like this#even though i dont larticularly shil Minimegs#i still would this would be great#transformers#maccadam#mtmte#ultra magnus#idw#minimus ambus#megatron#minimegs#Les mis#shattered glass#les mis au#transformers au#musicals#shockwave#soundstar#soundwave#starscream#starwave#shockstar#les amis de l'abc#jean valjean#javert#gavroche#eponine#marius pontmercy#cossette

Where did you first see/hear Philip Quast?
After I first watched Les Miserables (2012) and immediately became obsessed, I was watching every YouTube video I could find about it. When I looked at the comments, most of them were complaining about Russell Crowe's performance, comparing him to Phillip Quast. Now I actually kind of like RC's Javert, but after a month or so of always seeing PQ's name everywhere, I decided to listen to Stars (TAC) and see what the hype was about.
And now I'm here.

It's heartbreaking! 😭 But I still regret I cannot see it
"We bring the wealth of our experiences, losing parents, facing our own mortality, seeing our friends disappearing at a rate of knots. I've found this both confronting and life affirming," Phillip Quast, who leads the expedition in the role of Robert Scott, said.
"There's not a single person that could come to this theatre and not have some experience of what the subject matter is.
"It's challenging the notion of whether or not you keep finding that exploration and discovery in ageing, and the journey towards dying as something interesting.
"It's a deeply personal experience."

#and hear me out - brian stokes mitchell was the first cyrano that followed up phillip quast when he left the show#comes back as le bret....the vision is *right here* at the front of my cortex
@ride-a-dromedary continues to be a genius in the tags, this is genuinely so brilliant, Jemi, why didn’t I think of this before...
#*The answer was there all along* <3#And there's something beautiful about an older and wiser former Cyrano actor playing Le Bret--it gives them that brotherly dynamic I love#and it brings a new perspective of 'been there done that don't want to see you get hurt the same way' to the relationship as well.#*George Lucas voice*: It's like poetry--it rhymes. XD#the fake cyrano musical
