I've been thinking about how the Amell Warden and Hawke are related, and that house Trevelyan is technically distantly related to house Pavus, with a number of distant relations spread all across Thedas (Phillam, Lord Albrecht, Lady Osher...), and now I can't shake this feeling that I really, really want house Trevelyan to also be related to whatever the human Rook's last name is going to wind up being.
It just really tickles me to imagine my Inquisitor shrugging, like "Yeah, their family and us Trevelyans have about as much to do with one another as the Pavus and the Trevelyans. Or the Couslands and the Trevelyans. Or the Bayarts and the Trevelyans. The De Ghislain and the Trevelyans. Us Trevelyans have had fingers in a lot of metaphorical pies, so to speak."
(and then Dorian can have a cute moment, and say a little quip about how he's not surprised that his amatus comes from a long and prestigious line of heartbreakers, heyoooo)
#squirrel plays datv#oc: raymond trevelyan#oc: verbena mercar#i think it would be really funny if Ray's family was just full of complete and utter panty droppers#who have successfully fucked their way into every single family line of thedas#in a way that Ray himself; while handsome; is not even that remarkable#his brother is a tall and scrawny mage who looks a lot like their orlesian mother so he's kind of an outlier#his sister is pretty but severe and also looks a lot more like their mom#but his dad is a big burly salt-and-pepper gentleman whose younger son is his split image and he smells like hay and vetiver#and there's a portrait of grandpa trevelyan in the foyer that; yeah; looks like a man who has fucked and sucked his way across the marches#oh the inquisition's coffers are so bloody lucky that their inquisitor is gay#i reckon if he were interested in having sex with people who could get pregnant my dear boy would have been paying child support three ways#by the time he stumbled out of the Breach#actually let me just#dragon age#dorian pavus

Tall Mountain, Deep Canyon / Mountain and Valley (Translate, 20191111) [Phil Lam]
Standing in the woods like there is no oxygen, in the sunset, I feel lonesome – yet I have no rights to see you. I lost empathy as I knew the tall mountains and deep canyons separate us two. My voyage at the corner of street was your aristocratic game. I was too innocent to believe our relationship was sincere – and it was a child’s play.
You live happily while I survive at all cost. So many people are at the top of the mountains looking over my weariness. Yearn for approval – I strive to be a better person restlessly. Who would be afraid of shortness of breath? But the destination is hanging at the horizon. You defined the meaning of “to live”, I insulted the meaning of “existence”, It is only fitting for me to be held up in the valley to organize my mess. Though I thirst for a major reunion – the path under my feet seems too difficult to cut short. I cannot see the end nor your mercifulness – we are extremely far apart.
The more I look, the more hopeless I am – I am not part of the future. Under the cliff, at the terminus – I realized that I never had a paradise. It seems when the darkness of the sky turns to light, it volatilizes farewells – I only see people fall. Although your pleasure continues to spread, you still show no sympathy to me. You are too clear-cut when distinguish things involved us – that’s too harsh.
You live happily while I survive at all cost. So many people are at the top of the mountains looking over my weariness. Yearn for approval – I strive to be a better person restlessly. Who would be afraid of shortness of breath? But the destination is hanging at the horizon You defined the meaning of “to live”, I insulted the meaning of “existence”, It’s only fitting for me to be held up in the valley to organize my mess. Though I thirst for a major reunion – the path under my feet seems too difficult to cut short. I can’t see the end nor your mercifulness – we are extremely far apart.
Yet I still have to live. I secretly subsist in the valley and wait until someday – the day where my soul ends. You continue to go around in circles and I continue to bury my love. There is no end. Never was there a destination. Forever is extremely far.

Covert Affair
Setting: Ostwick, 9:39 Dragon Character focus: Seigfried Trevelyan
Seigfried rushed in the stairs of his small, personal estate in Ostwick. He took the steps two at a time, sometimes even three. He was racing against time and he knew it. He heard the distant knocking on the main door and pushed himself to go even faster. He hoped the servants would be able to detain them for a while.
He slid to a halt in front of the chamber door, slamming his fist on it.
“Maxwell! You better make sure she’s covered because I’m coming in!” Without any further warning, Seigfried slammed the door open, shutting it quick behind him. He took his jacket off and threw it on a chair, making his way further into the chamber and looking up. Maxwell stood beside a bed, disheveled and nude while the brunette elven woman was still in it, the covers up to her chest as she stared with wide violet eyes at Seigfried.
“They know you brought Eirlana here.” Seigfried moved to look out the window, still seeing them waiting outside. “You need to get dressed and meet them.” Seigfried moved across the room, picking up Maxwell’s trousers and throwing them at him.
“And what will you be doing?” Maxwell demanded, catching the article of clothing and putting it on. He caught his shirt, throwing it over his head.
“I’ll be playing her paramour, instead of it being you.”
“Seigfried, you can’t—”
“Maxwell, let him,” Eirlana interrupted. “With the tensions and everything lately…It would be for the best.”
Maxwell gazed at her for a moment before nodding his head in agreement, turning to Seigfried. “Alright.”
With that, Seigfried rushed to help him get dressed in his uniform, praying to the Maker the stalling was still working with the knight-commander. As fast as he could, Seigfried pushed Maxwell out of the room, closing the door with haste. He quickly removed his own top and his boots, tossing them to the side and making his way to the bed.
“Just so you know,” he began, climbing into the bed by her, “as lovely as you are with the dark hair, fair features, and big enchanting eyes…I’m not interested.”
“I am well aware, Serah Seigfried.”
Seigfried adjusted himself in the bed, under the top cover but a bottom blanket keeping a respectable barrier between himself and Eirlana. He heard the footsteps nearing in the corridor, the muffled voices getting closer and closer.
“My sincerest apologies,” Seigfried muttered, “but may I kiss you?”
“If it’ll make it more believable.”
“Trust me, it will.” With that, he leaned closer to her, cupping her cheek with his hand. “Maker, I hope Maxwell forgives me.” He heard the door creak open and placed his thumb on her lips before he pressed a kiss to her lips. The door slammed open, causing him to jump back and look to see who stood there. Eirlana pulled the covers up more and Seigfried felt relief at her ability to act.
Standing with a stern, hard glare was the Knight-Commander. It was a look Seigfried was accustomed to; after all, the knight-commander had been the trainer to expel him from templar training in his youth. And so, while others might wilt until the glare, Seigfried met it with an easy grin.
“Knight-Commander! Ever heard of knocking?”
This lacks-a-daisy attitude only caused the commander’s brow to furrow even more as he glared at him in contempt. Seigfried kept his expression, though, not allowing it to falter as his nerves grew. Did the Knight-Commander believe his own eyes? Did he doubt? It was a gamble but one Seigfried knew he had to make for Maxwell and Eirlana’s sake.
“Trevelyan,” the knight-commander barked, and Maxwell jumped to his side.
“Sir?”
“See that your brother and Eirlana get dressed then return Eirlana to the Circle.” The knight-commander kept his glare resting on Seigfried and Seigfried kept his uncaring, defiant smirk. “I must speak with your father.” The commander turned on his heel, everyone in his entourage save for Maxwell following suit.
Well, that remark never held promise for Seigfried. The trouble was nobility was his father still held a leash on him. Any funds, any money, or any property were tied strictly to his father. Sure, Seigfried made a bit on the side here and there, but not enough. Considering social implications of this matter, Seigfried knew this would go badly.
Later that day
Seigfried sat in his father’s study, slouched back in his chair. His fingers tapped impatiently on the intricately carved arm of the chair. He hated waiting and his father knew that. Seigfried knew damn well his father was forcing him to sit on pins and needles to further his punishment, whatever it may be. His mind raced with the various possibilities. He quickly ceased that, though, knowing his father expected that too. He was torturing for some sick amusement, Seigfried was sure of it.
The door opened and Seigfried began to rise to his feet, only to collapse back into his chair as he realized it was not his father, but Maxwell. He let out a sigh of relief, slouching back again. He motioned to the chair beside him and Maxwell joined him.
“So. Father dragged you here as well?”
“Are you surprised?”
“No.” Silence fell between them as they waited, Seigfried shifting a bit in annoyance.
“Why did you do it?”
The question broke the silence and Seigfried glanced at Maxwell.
“What do you mean?”
“You didn’t have to play her lover. Something else…”
“They wouldn’t have sent the commander with that many cronies unless they had a suspicion. One of my messengers informed me a rat suggested she was with a Trevelyan. So, I had to erase any suspicion of you.”
They fell into silence again, waiting for the inevitable arrival of their father. After what felt like an eternity, the door opened. Maxwell rose to his feet and Seigfried remained seated, not even bothering to stand out of respect. He had none.
In strode their father, every bit the authoritative figure he was. While not the Teryn of Ostwick, he may as well have the same power. The Trevelyan family had orchestrated marriages and connections through the centuries with various countries, nobilities, and organizations. Like a spider’s web, it wove through the bloodline of nearly every country and his father, the family patriarch, carefully pulled the web’s threads and any deviance within the main family was deeply frowned upon. (Phillam! The bard, had a luxury of not being in the main branch of the family.)
And Seigfried was that deviance.
“The Commander informed me of the occurrence this morning,” he began, sitting down in the large chair behind his equally large desk. Maxwell sat down and Seigfried rolled his eyes, finding the painting of Andraste more interesting to look at than his father. Bann Trevelyan folded his hands atop the desk and leaned slightly over the surface, his gaze on his youngest child. “Maxwell, did you sneak Lady Eirlana out this morning for her affair with your brother. Under the pretense of her healing someone?”
“I—”
“No,” Seigfried interjected, his tone bored as he kept his gaze on the painting. “I ran into them when they were done at Lady Dummond’s estate and lied.” He glanced to his father out of the corner of his eye, almost daring him to interrupt. “I said Beatrice at my estate was ill and asked of Eirlana could examine her.”
Bann Trevelyan waited a beat before looking back to Maxwell, a warning look in his eye. “Is this true, Maxwell?”
Maxwell glanced to Seigfried, who’s own gaze was similar to his father’s yet was on the elder Trevelyan. He turned back to look at his father, nodding.
“Yes. It is.”
Their father put his hands flat on the desk, pushing himself up to a stand. Heated green eyes glared the pair of them down before focusing on Seigfried. Seigfried, in response, lifted his chin up a bit higher, straightening his back and squaring his shoulders. The pair did not falter as they glared the other down, pride not allowing them to do so.
“Do you enjoy making our family a mockery?” His voice was dangerously low, a quiet threat lurking beneath his words. “First, your expulsion from templar training, then your refusal to enter the Chantry, your affairs, your drunken escapades, running about with elves, need I go on?!”
“Do you recall that one time Cousin Antoinette was here,” Seigfried muttered in an aside to Maxwell.
“This is not a joke, Seigfried!” His father snapped, slamming his hand on the desk. “Do you wish to drag us all through the mud with you?! Think of the consequences for your brothers due to your actions. While Henry is married, Maxwell hasn’t taken those vows and could eventually wed. Not to mention when Henry becomes Bann, who will take him seriously with the likes of you? Or if Maxwell were to be promoted? Would they look at his actions with you here and decide not to?! You may destroy all chances of—”
“We’re not your pawns to play in weaving a web!” Seigfried roared, jumping to his feet. “Are we your sons or tools?!”
“That is enough!” His father bellowed, marching around the desk. He stopped in front of Seigfried, the two glaring each other down. “I don’t know why I put up with you. You obviously don’t care about anyone but yourself and your own revelries. In fact, it may be beneficial to diso—”
“Father!” Maxwell leapt to his feet, a pleading sound in his voice. He drew his father’s attention and the pleading, guilty look on Maxwell’s face gave way to sinking realization for Bann Trevelyan.
“Disable you from using that estate for a time,” he finished, his tone much quieter and tired, shocked to some extent. “It would be better for you to be here. Perhaps then you might learn responsibility and accountability.”
With a long, defeated sigh, Bann Trevelyan walked out, his shoulders slummed and shaking his head. Seigfried and Maxwell watched after him, uncertainty etched on their features.
“Well,” Seigfried began, “looks like you need a new place for your rendezvouses with Eirlana.”
“Seigfried, I’m so sorry you were dragged into all this,” Maxwell said, turning to him.
“Hey, it’s okay. It’s better for me to get in trouble than you. It’s expected of me, not of you. I’m used to it by now.”
“But—”
“Stop worrying!” Seigfried laughed, putting an arm around Maxwell’s shoulders. “Think of it as Father and I having bonding time.”
“Hopefully you won’t be at each other’s throats. That’s the last thing we need.”
“Not even a little bit?”
“No,” Maxwell chuckled, shaking his head. “Not even a little bit.”
