The Cicada-Song Solstice is absolutely peppered with little Kagepro references and callbacks. This formed a large part of the fun designing it!

An offering candle I made on the full moon last night for Magwayen, Philippine goddess of the sea and the underworld. She is depicted as a beautiful woman carrying a budyong (conch shell) to help her shape shift into creatures, and is said to ferry the souls of the dead to Sulad and Saad, the lands of the ancestors 🌊🐚🖤

choose your fighter! (ibong adarna vers.)
Tumblr media
Choose to play as:
Don Pedro, the eldest prince of Berbania. Certified dad pleaser.
Don Diego, the second prince. Plotting a coup as we speak.
Don Juan, the youngest prince. Dad's favorite - also The Narrative's.
Doña Maria, princess of the Crystal Kingdom. Unhinged sorceress.
These are the premade PCs for Ballad of the Princes Three, an Ibong Adarna ttrpg. In Ballad, you each play as one of the brothers + Maria, acting out different versions of the Ibong Adarna story.
Parallel to this, Saints (higher-existence beings with meta influence) spectate and comment on the royals' performances. They are:
Tumblr media
Plata Panata, the Saint of Devotion. A bloodied automaton of pure silver.
Nining Matsing, the Saint of Wit. A crafty monkey always in a rivalry with her friend Turtle. Cheats to get ahead.
Lerong Sinta, the Saint of Fortune. Her luck alternates between good and bad. Likes papayas and hates falling down.
Prinsesa Blanca, the Saint at the Gates. Gatekeeps the universe's secrets. Doña Maria is her self-insert.
In case y'all were wondering, Doña Maria is a character that shows up in the second part of Ibong Adarna - schools usually only cover the first part. For her design, I was inspired by Utena + gave her snail motifs as a reference to being cursed to crawl like a snail in the Ibong Adarna story.

It just started one day. You couldn’t sit still, or suddenly your energy was sapped. You became attuned to the ebb and flow of creation, the push and pull of the Heat Haze Boy and the Monsoon Girl. You became a swellbloom kid.
SWELLBLOOM KIDS is a ttrpg set within the various eras of Philippine history. Here, you play as a superpowered individual blessed by one of the gods of Philippine mythology. Involve yourself in revolutions, political intrigue, clan wars, and magical happenings, from the creation of the world to its eventual end. You'll meet various reimagined figures from folklore and myth, such as Mariang Makiling (here, a goddess of time and tradition) and the personified summer heat Apolaki (here, a deity of sun and war also called El Niño or The Heat Haze Boy).
Tumblr media
Swellbloom Kids is a love letter to Philippine culture, the gods in our beliefs, and to being neurodivergent in a world that may not always understand us.

PRINSESA BLANCA, SAINT AT THE GATES
Holds the key to the secrets of the universe, which she doles out carefully to those she finds deserving. Her royal resembles her greatly, as she made practically no changes when she inserted herself into the story. Delights in stories with extensive lore and worldbuilding.
+
Prinsesa Blanca is the Saint version of Doña Maria from my Ibong Adarna module, Ballad of the Princes Three. Maria is technically her self-insert, which is why they look practically identical. I wanted to retain the snail theme I had going with Maria, but at the same time still make them distinct, hence the change in hair and outfit. I would say Blanca's a bit more whimsical and unhinged than her human version!
Her title, Saint at the Gates, was originally meant for another character I conceptualized but ended up scrapping. I do think it still fits her character, since she presides over keeping the greater truths of the universe a secret. It's also a bit of a reference to St. Peter the Apostle, who guards the gates to heaven.

Ballad of the Princes Three is set in the larger Swellbloom Kids universe. Check out the ttrpg here:

Tale of Mischief
With gangly limbs and the head of a horse, you're a wild trickster inhabiting clumps of bamboo deep in the forest.
Lose Your Way: You can alter a target's perception of space so that they become hopelessly lost in whatever area they are in, provided it is not one they are extremely familiar with such as their own home. The target can break free with a successful Wits roll against your Heart.
Wedding of Tricksters: Once a scene, you can turn the weather to rainy when it is sunny and vice versa for (Heart roll) minutes.
To Tame the Horse (Weakness): If someone successfully plucks a hair from your head, you owe them a forfeit and are cursed on contested actions against them until the next dawn.
