So I just read the first Darkenblot story (finally. only took me more than 10 years) and God DAMN does it go hard.
Tumblr media
(ignore that this cover is for the second story)
Like Blotty in the prologue is basically just Iron Man if he was in prison instead of held captive by terrorists and if he was actually way cooler because Tony is nothing compared to the absolute swagger this guy just oozes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Amd tehen he iust
Tumblr media
lLIKE LOOK AT HIM AND TELL ME THAT HE ISNT COOL AND INWILL TEL YOU YORURE LYING
Im not gonna spoil the rest because its a detective story so you know spoilers kind of ruin that. SO YOU SHOULD READ IT IF YOU HAVENT ALREADY
Tumblr media
It even got an American release so you have zero excuses. If you have the time to scroll tumblr you have the time to read Darkenblot. So read Darkenblot. We’re making this phase one of the Phantom Blot propaganda coming this year i want everyone to spread the fucking sick design he has in this story like the plague.
Tumblr media
Darkenblot has good shock value for a Mickey Mouse thing so it’s perfect to kick off operation blot brain wash. People gonna look at this and go whaaaa and then you grab them and take them with you into the inescapable Blot hole.
But for you to be able to do that you must have first read Darkenblot so GO GO GO

Dreaming of a Mickey Mouse movie (pt. 1/?)
Alright, the conversation in this post encouraged us to share our ideas for a comic-based Mickey Mouse movie. And so we decided we're gonna post them here with a special tag you all can follow if you're interested: #dreaming of a Mickey Mouse movie
(We're not sure about its title yet)
(Also, we gotta point out that one of us dreams of being a screenwriter for animated movies!)
These are just gonna be our ideas, and you may have a different direction for a movie like that in your head, but we think we're all open for sharing our ideas, being inspired by each other and maybe even making different visions of this hypothetical movie? You know, like the "Wish" rewrites!
Either way, we just wanted to have this little disclaimer that our vision may not completely align with your own, which is completely fine! But yeah, we hope you will all still like what we're coming up with. Also, screenwriting is a very "jumpy" process, and we may change many things during it. Anyway, onto the interesting part.
This movie is going to be based on "Mickey Mouse Outwits the Phantom Blot"! However, several changes will have to be made due to the nature of film structure (this is a lesser reason), as well as due to the other specific goals it aims to achieve (this is a larger reason).
This movie is going to present the changes in Mickey's life and in Mickey himself in a way that introduces the larger audience to the mouseverse comic version of Mickey.
Because of this, Mickey will start out as a guy with an idyllic, almost perfect, but largely uneventful life (so as to reflect the way he's not being currently used by Disney). This will also mean that he would not have had these big detective-style adventures beforehand, and this one would be his first. Hopefully the contrast between the peaceful-slice-of-life-shenanigans Mickey Mouse stories and the first Phantom Blot story would be stark enough to catch people's eyes, while not being too out of left field for the character. Instead it should still feel natural, like in the comics.
This is also why changes will be made to the original comic plotline, specifically the beginning: O'Hara wouldn't have invited a random guy he doesn't know who has no history in stopping criminals... or would he? Why? What would motivate this decision? That's what we're currently writing out.
We have way more thoughts, but that's the gist of it. We'd be happy to hear your thoughts on this!

For some reason my father really likes this one.
He always says a black ghost that could make the entire sea disappear really frightened him as a kid. I think it’s really mid, (even when I was a kid i found it meh) but it’s something else than outwits and double mystery.
Because obviously the first PB story is everyone’s favorite. Duh. It’s a masterpiece I love it to bits. Genuinely one of the greatest pieces of detective fiction ever made. The best Mickey Mouse comic ever made. Even INDUCKS agrees with that. It’s rated 18th place out of 43715. But that’s boring to say so I’ll go and say…
Euhm.
Idk actually all my favorites are everyones favorites.
Euhhh i like
And
Is very good.
Though the latter not so much for Blotty. So.
I think Phantom Blot is always good. Even in a bad story. I looked through all Phantom Blot stories I own, and not many of them I find very good aside from the obvious ones. But still somehow I have loved the Blot so much since I was a kid. He was always my favorite Mickey villain, even if most of his stories weren’t my favorite. I think that does show how great the basis of the character itself is. That no matter the circumstances of a story, no matter the writer or artist, the characters itself will almost always be a stand out no matter what story he’s in. As long as you get his basics right, the Phantom Blot will make an impact.
He can be used for comedy, for thrillers or for horror, because no matter the type of story, the very soul of his character is so powerful and efficient that it will just work like with the best of Barks’ characters.
You may have known him through the nail biting double mystery, or through the sillier golden age of Paul Murry, but even if those versions were wildly different, you would undoubtedly recognize either version as PB.
Because The Phantom Blot transcends genres, he is beyond always fulfilling the same role, all the while always fulfilling the same role. He’s always Mickey Mouse’s arch nemesis, but he’s always a different kind of arch nemesis. And still rarely would you call him out of character.
I’m going to be honest here. I don’t even know why I like the guy so much (aside from a few great stories, the FACT that he’s hot, idk do i just like the colour black?). He does something that a character like Pete doesn’t do for me. Even if he has a better track record for great stories. I just like the Blot guy more. I don’t know why. I can’t explain it. He’s magic, basically.
So to get this party started, why don't you guys share your favorite story, moment, and/or thing about the Phantom Blot?

Okay alright guys. It's two thousand twenty something, new year, Mickey Mouse is in the public domain, doctor who is starting from season 1 again and the Marvel Cinematic Universe is probably on fire right now(not in a good way). Disney is distracted and we must plague them into making their best villain into a big thing outside of comics.
This year we must infect the English speaking world with Phantom Blot propaganda as much as we can. We need them unknowing Americans to see the light.
Tumblr media
Everybody has been complaining these days about there not being enough real good villains. Everybody wants the Phantom Blot. They just don't know it yet.
Blah blah Disney and their emotional trauma is the real villain, Disney and their terrible twist villains, etc etc. They have the solution right here
Tumblr media
Look at him doesn't he look like a great solution?
There needs to be more Blot demand. I demand that he is actually the big bad in that stupid mobile game that now also has a manga. You will like the phantom blot I swear you will hes cool And cOOl aNd yOU WILL LIKE HIM WHY ARE YOU RUNNING AWAY
Tumblr media
That picture is me, i stabbed them for not liking the phantom blot.
Anyways. Phantom Blot propaganda. That was it. By the end of the year I want everyone to know the guy. Soon he will be on the big screen, on the small screen(not as a magica hating loser smh ducktales) and they should sell black cloaks in Disneyland. Make the people aware that they need him because they do. Fantagraphics you can help where is the Nucci/Casty volume of Disney masters containing their three Phantom Blot stories
Tumblr media
So here I declare 202? as the year of Blotty, ignore that it's Donald's 90th anniversary.

Everybody this is required reading for catching up with Doctor Feather and Phantom Blot lore. It will be important later. Google translate works perfectly fine. This is incredibly necessary for understanding what is coming up for the Blot. I think. No one knows what Nucci is cookin
It makes a good point about Vertigo as well. I hadnt thought about that yet. I really really hope theyre able to keep him interesting. Dont want yellow mask guy but now its supernatural.
Non so quanto l'utenza tumblr (e internazionale) conosca del dottor Piuma (o, in generale, delle storie scritte da Marco Nucci), ma consiglio di approfondire.
I don't know how much the tumblr user base (which is pretty international) knows about dottor Piuma (or the stories written by Marco Nucci in general), but it's worth dive into it.

I think a big reason is that usually he is such a standout in many of his stories. One part of it is that he is a core Mickey Mouse's villain (arguably his main arch enemy outside of Pete) so he tends to go against the big mouse himself. But I would argue a much bigger reason is that in his best stories he tends to steal the scene by being so intimidating or so fun.
The original honestly does a brilliant job balancing both as he is genuinely pretty threatening nearly killing Mickey multiple times, but still has a fun wit to him.
Tumblr media
And then in stories "Black and White", "I am the Phantom Blot", "Coral Island Nightmare", etc. He is portrayed the most seriously and threatening in a way that we don't normally see in Disney Comics. But in a way that doesn't feel overly edgy or out of place. So that definitely helps him stand out compared to other villains.
Tumblr media
And in the stories where he isn't overly threatening. The best ones still have him be so charming and fun to be around that it is so entertaining watching him come up with plans and try to get them to work. He never gives up (for better and for worse), he has such a diverse skillset that results in a variety of fun schemes, and he fully plays into the villain role and having a blast while doing so (as long as he is winning)
Tumblr media
I also think that some elements of him are just interesting on a meta level such as him being a caricature of Walt Disney, which makes his fights against Mickey even more interesting and funny.
Tumblr media
So I think that is why he tends to stick in people hearts. I see time and time again where people have no idea who is the Blot is. Read a comic because they heard him mentioned in a youtube video or from friends. And then instantly get attached once they realize how fun and cool he is. I can even say from writing him, he is just so fun to write with his cocky attitude and seeming sense of control over the situations.
But you are right in that he still is pretty unknown. Again he is mostly popular among those who actually know who he is. I think part of that is due to his limited appearances outside of the comics. He has had animated appearances before but they tend to be pretty small or not that great imo. And even outside of that he hasn't really show up in games (Epic Mickey is a different guy), merchandise, etc. And when it comes to the comics, depending where you live, are either a core part of your Disney experience or not and again as an American they really aren't (which is a shame imo) so some people may have not grown up reading about him, resulting in him being a bit obscure. Which is why some of us are trying to spread the word of the Phantom Blot #Blot Propaganda
As I learn more about Disney comics, I'm surprised at how much love I see for the Phantom Blot. Not that he is a bad character, just that you have characters like Glomgold, Magica, The Beagles, and several other great villains I haven't met yet, but I consistently see so much love for Blot and I just found that very interesting because he feels like one of those villains you would think not everyone knows.
Tumblr media
Also, I see a lot of love for the many interpretations of Phantom Blot too. Be it as a criminal mastermind who keeps his identity a secret, an almost eldritch menace, and even when he's your classic bumbling goof. People just seem to really love this guy and that's awesome.

This whole year of the blot thing started with my stupid half joke post about Donald ducks 90th anniversary and now people are making music playlists for phantom blot propaganda. Im so glad i joined this site
So I found out the Micjey Mouse comics fandom and the Topilino fandom by extenstion are trying to make this "Year of the Blot" (the comics version not the EM version or DT17 version) so here's a playlist I'm working on. Feel free to vibe, get art ideas, etc.

This story has actually officially been deemed non-canon by Disney (probably the only comic for which that ever happened) SO THIS MEANS ALL EVIDENCE AGAINST THIS THEORY HAS ALREADY BEEN ERASED.
Okay thats lame and i’m very good at overcomplicated workarounds. Cause’ i have read this drug trip of a comic. So look at this.
Who’s not to say that the Phantom Blot we see in these comics is actually the PB from the main comics universe? The Darkwing Duck/Ducktales universe is a completely separate alternate universe anyway (ignore Rightful Owners we dont talk about rightful owners). We can actually find evidence for this in the comic itself if we look too much into it.
PB makes people evil with his weird evil slime thing in this comic series. The evil slime stuff is revealed to be made out of the remnants of Negaduck who got split into a a bajillion pieces. Negaducks consciousness though, is revealed to be trapped in an alternate universe together with Morgana (it’s like a really weird comic)
Tumblr media
So like you know alternate universe. One of the previous stories (crisis on infinite darkwings)(masterpiece by the way) is literally about the multiverse. The Phantom Blot was completely absent from Darkwing Duck the entire time. How come he suddenly appeared after a multiverse event hmm? Bro slipped through the cracks to start some havoc in another world.
At the climax of the story, our favorite character decides that all the villains should become one with Negaduck and so they all merge with him (like i said its not normal. That panel you showed makes just as much sense in context)
Tumblr media
And then they all get banished to that alternate universe
Tumblr media
BUT GUESS WHO ISNT A PART OF ALL THIS BULLSHIT? Liquidator of course. He gets defeated a buncha pages earlier and doesnt participate in all this becoming one with Negaduck stuff.
Tumblr media
I dont know why i brought this up because its not like it proves anything but like uh Liquidator stays in his own universe and doesnt go with PB so this means they must be the same person from alternate dimensions or something
So after this we can theorize that PB somehow managed to escape back to our main comics timeline and with the multiverse experience did all the multiverse things he does in the comics. Then with all that experience he creates Twisted Wonderland and becomes crowley. I see no problems or flaws with this theory.
BUT THATS JUST A THEORY
A GAAAAAAAME THEORY (its related to epic mickey)
Thanks for reading and have this picture of the Phantom Blot talking to himself cause we proved it
Tumblr media
The Liquidator is a liquid-themed dog villain in the "Mickey Mouse and Friends" world whose main crime tends to be burglary or getting revenge on the heroes who have stopped them in the past ... This also perfectly describes the Phantom Blot.
Do I have something here? 🤔

I mean he’s the Phantom Blot. He almost has 900 comic appearances. He’s 2 different people at the same time because of international editorial and translation issues. He’s an eldritch monster from epic Mickey that is actually not him. He’s simultaneously the Disney version of Iron Man, The Phantom, Batman and whoever you want him to be. He’s a merciless murderer who’s heart is too soft to actually see someone die. He turned himself into paper. He is an incredibly well crafted but completely insane character, and somehow he is still lasting as Mickey’s greatest foe, even after 85 years.

Yeah outside the comic space Blot isn't really well know, but the moment people reads mickey outwits the Blot, be immediately becomes a favorite. That isn't to say Mickey other villains can't be as threatening but Blot really does stand out as being the one closest to actually offing the mouse.
It also helps good amount people find hot with or without the mask
