When they were done with the tour, she was left to clean up and wash the scent of the plane off her since she was sure she smelled of salted peanuts and stale air. As the young woman walked around the large master bath, Suyoung's footsteps trailing along the perimeter, she gazed down to the city below, never having been so high up prior. The skyline of Las Vegas shimmered beneath her in a ravishing array of buildings and the green of the palm trees could be seen dotting the streets. Such a view stretched to the plains of the desert and back, the vastness of it all creating a blunt sense of dread if this was a mistake or not ─ that customary knot in her stomach tightened, but choosing to stifle it all together, the woman went ahead to pick out a fresh pair of clothes.
Padding out to the rest of the apartment to find her fiancée, that short sense was soon replaced by happiness as she saw the other woman there, waiting for her, could there be anything better than that? Someone actually waiting for her, and for it to be Astrid of all people made Suyoung's heart sway. "Hi," she uttered, the corners of her lips cracking into a wide grin, "so, we can stay in and order delivery, or go out, or I think there was some talk about the kitchen counter? Because I am surprisingly a very good cook." She deadpanned, aware that was not what either meant, but determined to bait her lover. "Do you have anything to cook here? Or should I go grocery shopping tomorrow and pick up a few things?"
She was in the midst of snooping in Astrid's fridge to appraise the contents before she lit up as if she had an idea, "oh I have a gift for you," she said, hurrying back to the room to find it in her suitcase, the one thing she took care to remember. When she returned, Suyoung was carrying a small box with a leather passport holder, that she had Astrid's initials engraved on. They had stumbled upon the leather working studio back in Montréal, and ever since, Suyoung wanted to get a gift for the older woman. "It's not much, but as a keepsake, from our time in Canada. It was either this or one of those gift shop keychains of the Canadian flag and your name on it," Suyoung quipped.
astrid enjoyed watching her fiancée walk around their penthouse apartment. she loved seeing her reaction and followed behind her from a distance. she chuckled at suyoung saying they had ninety days to figure it out. "i've already got it figured out though." she said as she leaned against a white wall as she observed her lover. "i know that i want to marry you and that i am certainly not straight. i just need them to... accept that, which i think will be easier now that you're here and you won't be this abstract concept any longer." she spoke.
she kept on watching suyoung explore the living room area which was very large and open - with also a dining area and a kitchen. the other rooms were a bathroom, three bedrooms, and a study/library room, which were all hidden behind various doors. they'd just walked through the foyer which also had a toilet.
she wrapped her arms around suyoung's waist and almost giggled at the affection she received. "hmm, alright." she reacted and then watched her soon-to-be wife hop on the counter and she licked her lips at that comment. she couldn't deny that even the least bit of flirtation from the other woman had a massive effect on her. "and how do you suggest we do that, hmm?" she teased as she went to place her hands on either side of suyoung, leaning in to kiss her soundly. "i'd love to show you around and then you can tell me what exactly we all need to wear out..." she grinned and decided that she couldn't wait to get that romantic evening started.

The penthouse, let alone the whole framework left Suyoung feeling out of place since she had never been in a venue as fancy as this (save for a few hotels the pair had met up in prior); the young girl left to wonder if she stuck out like a sore thumb as much as she felt, but powered through aware it would just take some time to get used to the new residence. She sat her carry-on in the foyer near her shoes that she took off, as she padded in, drinking in the elegantly decorated place, just as she imagined it to be, a light smile etching across the canvas of her surface. "Well," Suyoung started, going back to Astrid's earlier thought, "you can tell them sexuality is a very fluid thing, and that's why we have these ninety days, or I guess eighty-nine, to figure these things out."
Walking further in, she gravitated towards the pictures her fiancé had, some hanging, some in frames of presumably her husband ─ ex-husband now, children, and other friends and family. A part of her could not wait to fill some memories with the older woman so that someday she too could be on that mantel. Lissome fingers traced a photo of Astrid, the silver cool under her touch, Suyoung lost in her own world for a moment. A laugh spilt from her lips as she ambled over to lace her arms around Astrid's neck, pressing her forehead against the other's. "I suppose... I mean my open side, the feelings part of it all." The young woman mused as she stuck a feather-light kiss to Astrid's cheek before whisking her away into the kitchen. "A new counter, eh? Does that mean we'll have to wear this one out?" She quipped, hopping up on the counter. "It's stunning here Ace, do you want to play tour guide before I do a little unpacking and then we can have a romantic night?"
astrid squeezed suyoung's hand as they drove. "it's just... my ex-husband and my sons. they all... have very little belief in both my interest in women, being able to make it work with someone so much younger... oh, and my sons also think i'm a hypocrite because i was so upset when my ex-husband left me for a younger woman. they don't appreciate the fact that i'm not married and he was." she sighed and shrugged. "they'll warm up to you, i'm sure." she told her.
"what do you mean with your receptive side? it sounds sexy but i don't think it is." she joked slightly, not exactly sure what her fiancée was trying to tell her or in fact warn her for.
she chuckled. "well, i already want a new bed. our bed. oh, and a mattress of course." she spoke. "and well... i just mean that i decorated it, so if you want... different chairs, decorations, or pictures somewhere... or even a whole new... counter, just... just tell me. i really want to make it our home." she told suyoung and then drove into the underground parking space underneath the building that housed her penthouse.
"come on, let's go up." she said excitedly before she leaned over and kissed her cheek before getting out of the car and plugging it in to charge, before she went to unload the trunk.

There was a time that Suyoung was working as a temp in an office setting and she would sit in her plastic cubicle, day in and day out, eyeing the time pass and the days tiptoe on in an endless routine, but one day when she came back from lunch, she had noticed that the workers she had been watching for sometime now put up an ad, two baby blue eyes staring back at her. It was for some sort of luxury purse or watch, nothing she could come close to affording, and it featured Astrid who at the time might have been the biggest supermodel in the world, but Suyoung wouldn't know it, never having seen this woman prior. That gaze greeted her every morn when she got into the job, and after three months of wondering who that was, was she was instantly fired, not daring to go back to that area until weeks later and the ad was torn down.
She bit the bottom of her lip as she settled into the passenger side, pondering who had been despising their impending nuptials, and though she only had an estranged older sister on her side, she could not help but feel Astrid was lucky to have people that cared that much about her. Of course, she knew very little of the matter, only what the older woman had told her in their whirlwind courtship but Suyoung wished she could somehow comfort her, instead opting to take the other's hand in her own as they drove. "I am sure they will, and any problem we face, we'll face it together, yeah? You don't have to go through this alone." She wanted Astrid to know it was okay to come and talk to her about things, even if they were not happy things if they were going to have a healthy marriage.
"Look, I am a huge ball of insecurities, trust me, I just... I have a difficult time showing anyone I care for a more... receptive side in me since my mother always told me there was no point showing that part to people you like. I know it's not true, and it might have caused some of the downfalls of past relationships, but I won't let it deter ours, or I will try not to okay?" Such an impetuous admission coloured Suyoung's cheeks a red hue as she glanced out the window to the scenery around them, wholly new terrain and a feeling at the pit of her stomach that this was just the start.
Brimming with a sense of activity at the thought of going to their new place, Suyoung made a list of some of the things she did not feel the need to bring from Canada, such as shampoo and the like, but then she was sure she could just borrow that stuff from Astrid, which left her unsure of what they might need, or what would look good since she never felt she had a key eye for those sorts of things, but a day shopping with Astrid would be nice. "A day with you, even just doing taxes sounds fun, so I am definitely in. I'm afraid I'm not too good with interior design, but I do like to look at the colours and see if they go together."
astrid loved walking hand in hand with suyoung, even though some looks - and stares - made her nervous. in the past, it was generally people looking at her because they recognized her from a glossy magazine cover. now, it was either homophobia or ageism. "i just get insecure, especially with what people around me say about us. it's been tough the past few weeks... but i'm sure they'll come around." she assured her partner, not wanting her to worry or regret coming. she helped suyoung with her suitcases and then blushed at the elaborate compliment that followed. she had been showered in compliments as a model, as well as criticism - but she rarely got to hear that anymore. it made her feel great to have suyoung express just how gorgeous she thought astrid was. "i wouldn't marry anyone else." she told her and was now very eager to get home. she just couldn't wait to be alone with suyoung and just have a romantic evening, dreaming about their future - in person. not over the phone.
"as you wish." she said and pushed the cart toward the exit and her polestar electric car. she helped load up the car and then put on her sunglasses. it was, as on most days, way too sunny to drive without. she started up the car and made her way to what would now be their apartment. well, penthouse. "i have a furniture shopping trip planned, by the way." she started, "this weekend. so, take a look around the apartment, make a list of things you'd like to replace with items of your taste and we can replace them as soon as possible." she spoke as she drove towards her home. "i really want the place the feel like yours too."
astrid had always visited suyoung in canada, finding it too hard to have her here with her sons always stopping by, her ex-husband even dropping in to vent about work still and it was just great for astrid to get away from her life to suyoung. that meant, however, that her fiancée didn't really have anything here in america yet.

Hearing Astrid's worries voiced seemed to soothe the ones housed in the back of Suyoung's head; the warm nickname bringing another smile to her features, this time more subtle as her hand came down to thread in the other woman's. They walked in unison to the baggage claim area, though whilst packing, Suyoung realised her entire life in Canada fit into two large suitcases and a carry-on, perhaps a pitiful concept she took into her thirties, but that's why she was here ─ to start a new life. "Of course I would come," she stated, as if it was a fact, her thumb gently rubbing the curve of Astrid's hand to comfort her. There was no family waiting to hear if she got to America safely, no friends to text that she was okay, only a one or two from her university days in Asia, but for the most part, she was alone. Until now.
Her brow furrowed at Astrid's comment, when they weren't together, they video messaged when they could, but that could not compare to the real thing, the other a goddess before her eyes. "I think the only other option is to marry someone who will tell you how stunning you look when you inevitably age like fine wine, which you are." The last part uttered into Astrid's ear before she pulled away with a smirk. "Home... yes, I suppose so, unless we want to stop to see some sights." She teased, there was plenty of time for that, and in truth, she had been to Las Vegas once when she was visiting some distant cousins in Henderson, but that was before she was of age and couldn't do really anything, not even sit in casinos since the stafff was worried it looked like a child gambling. A rush of heat from the desert clime greeted them as they stepped outside and to Astrid's car. "Take me home Ace."
astrid pulled back and raised her hand to move the other woman's hair out of her eyes. "hey, su." she said, breathing a sigh of relief as she said it. she was here, she chose to come, they were going to get married... "i was just worried you wouldn't come, changed your mind..." astrid admitted, a bit embarrassed that she'd even considered that her fiancée wouldn't come. at the compliment, she blushed and chuckled. "i sadly think the only option is to get less attractive as i age, sadly - but i'm glad you think i look good." she told her and leaned in to give her a kiss, feeling herself melt a little. "ready to go home?" she asked, thrilled at the prospect of sharing a home with her partner from now on.

For your safety and comfort, please remain seated with your seat belt fastened until the Captain turns off the Fasten Seat Belt sign. The overhead briefing awoke Suyoung from a light sleep, attempting to get at least a couple hours in on the long flight over, but her anxieties did nothing to calm her down; swallowing one sleeping pill and then another so she did not look like a complete wreck when she arrived. A force of light seeped in through the cracks of the window as she opened it to see her new location, her lungs expanding as she inhaled a sharp breath.
Stopping in the bathroom on her way out to fix her appearance, Suyoung put her hair back with a clip and took off her jacket, draping it over the carry-on. Was it too late to turn back? And leave Astrid to wonder why she did not show or even tell her of her worries? That would be too cruel, and Suyoung was not a cruel person. Dark eyes peered around the sea of patrons, a blur of nameless faces until she caught sight of the other ─ just as enchanting as she remembered, the corner of her lips curved upward. "Hey there Ace." She stood there for a moment in a coarse aspect, her hands at her side and unable to process the warmth in the action, before she slowly wrapped her arms around Astrid's hips and pulled her in. "Sorry, it took so long, the person in front of me was travelling with children, and said child spilt their Legos all over the aisle at the last second, right as I was getting up." Her disdain for kids was evident in her story, but her soon to be wife's were grown which led to fewer worries on her part. "Is it entirely possible that you got more stunning since last I saw you?"

astrid hadn’t been this nervous in a long time. she was still not sure whether they’d actually show up. the doubt probably came from all the people in her life who were telling her she was completely mental for doing this. she had traveled to see her partner only a handful of times and now, she was getting married to them within the next 90 days. both her ex-husband and sons told her that she was just being used, but deep down, astrid really didn’t believe that. the connection they had couldn’t be faked, could it?
people were coming out into the arrivals hall and she searched the faces. after a few minutes, her face was falling… they weren’t here. she could have cried... when finally someone appeared that she knew. she grinned, her eyes filling with tears as she ran over to them and hugged them tightly. “finally.” she breathed, so happy to be near them once again - and now forever.
