Letters to San-Diego
Cw: Angst, accidental misgendering, talk of abandonment.
No one minded them sleeping on the couch in Small Heath, so since a place to live was sorted out, they focussed on trying to get news to the Walters of their whereabouts.
Rabbit, Jon and Spine all wrote letters of their own, sealed and stamped and sent them to America with the address, hoping to reach Pappy or one of his sons by the same name. When two months passed and no answers or return letters appeared, they sent more.
They sent letters by dove, by eagle, more through the mail and even tried to call the Manor, despite not being entirely sure that the number and address Tommy found was correct or not. The Jon even tried to send a message by bottle but they never got any answers. No return letters or calls coming in for them.
Spine gave up after the first six months passed. He didn't think they would get anything back nor that they would get back to America anytime soon. He thought it a waste of paper and time and instead tried to think of anything else he could do instead. He wouldn't stop Jon and Rabbit from sending the letters, but he just didn't have the emotional will to continue on that fruitless endeavour himself.
The Jon sent letters every week, having Polly or Tommy spellcheck them beforehand, even though they both admitted to not having finished school. It was fine, he didn't mind. They were willing to check and help him when h struggled with a word and the Spine wasn't around to help.
Since the letters weren't coming back and the birds returned without letters attached to them, it was safe to assume that the letters did in fact get delivered but then why weren't they getting replies or even just something to tell them they'd be going home and it would be sorted?
The Jon went as far as sending a couple letters through the river lines or riding with the boats along the rivers until they reached the sea and then throwing the bottles with letters as far into the waves as he could. The men driving the boats would give him a sympathetic look but they never stopped him or said anything against it. They seemed to enjoy his company though, so he was at least happy to be able to make them happy.
After the first year and a half, Jon had a thorough breakdown in Tommy's room one night and hadn't sent a letter since. He felt abandoned and used and sick to his nonexistent stomach that they would just be thrown away like this. Instead, he did as the Spine did and tried to find a job or something to keep himself busy, just to take his mind off it. Soon enough, he forgot he ever tried to write letters home, acclimating and enjoying life in Birmingham.
Rabbit held on the longest. She wrote for three years, every week, and sent the letters through every means possible to her. It broke her heart when Spine gave up, claimed he was just a downer and a dummins and gave up too easily. She kept writing and always added something in her letters back home about how the Spine was doing since he wasn't sending letters anymore.
Then the Jon gave up on sending letters and the breakdown before his decision had shaken the whole house in Small Heath. Several of the humans and both she and Spine came to see what was the matter. The Shelby family at least had enough sympathy to help them console the Jon into the early morning hours until he involuntarily went into a fitful stasis. The Spine had easily moved him to the couch and helped out extra the next day to make up for it.
She had to keep writing, now including a couple sentences about how the Jon was faring and how many friends he continues to make day in and day out. Sometimes she let's Polly or the Spine spellcheck her, but Polly gives her this dreadful face, full of pity, every time she writes, so she stops asking. She's gotten into many arguments with the Spine over the letters, until she eventually doesn't let him read them anymore either.
They were both dummins for giving up. So what if it's taking Pappy a bit of time to reply to them? He's just making a plan to make sure they get back safely. Yeah! That was it! Maybe he's so busy with his plan that he forgets to write them back and Miss Tonia, Ma, couldn't get him to sit still long enough to write back.
So she keeps writing and writing and writing, until she's repeating things in her letters and she's spending almost as much money on paper and ink as the betting shop is, but she can't stop because if she stops she'll have to admit some heavy things to herself that she can't even bare to think of for a split second, let alone accept.
It all comes to a head one day, three years, seven weeks and three days, into writing the letters to San-Diego. She's writing to Pappy about how she's worried about the Spine because he's getting very close with the Shelby clan and their dealings. He's even gone as far as trading his usual hat for a peaked cap that Tommy gave him, razorblade sewn into the seam and everything.
The Spine walked into the living room and sat down heavily on the old couch. She can tell he'd made a trip to one of the car factories because he brings the smell of oil and welding with him. He lets out a heavy sigh of steam and won't look anywhere other than the hearth, ablaze and warm in the bleak midwinter. No one else is home.
"Rabbit," The Spine's voice is tired, exasperated in a way she's only heard him address the soldiers before. "When are you going to stop with the letters?" He has to ask, because of course he does.
"I won't stop until Pappy comes and gets us and we're back home," She says, determined, brows furrowed as she tries to figure out how to spell a particularly difficult word. There's a shift behind her, Spine getting up from the couch. He walks over to her, reads the letter over her shoulder.
There's a gentle hand placed on top of her own copper hand, Spine's silver design contrasting her own in the way it always did, a small attempt at comfort for the words she knows he's about to say. "Rabbit, I think it's time you stopped the letters and face the facts," his voice is gentle, but it riles something up in her core, something angry and in pain.
She gets to her feet, fast and more coordinated than usual. The pen and letter thrown to the side on the coffee table. "Yeah! Give up like YOU and Jon did! Pappy is coming for us! He'd never abandon us in an unknown place with unknown people!" She's outright screaming now, so much so that she doesn't hear the door to the betting shop opening up. Spine heard it though.
"He already abandoned us! Three years ago! Face it, Rabbit, Pappy isn't coming! HE DOESN'T WANT US BACK!" Spine realises a moment later what he's just uttered into the world. It's so quiet you could hear a pin drop from a mile away. Rabbit is shaking, rattling her mechanical bones. His words just broke her heart, and the last of her resolve with it.
An oily tear drops deafeningly loud onto the carpet and he's about to go over and hug her, apologise and try to undo the damage he'd just caused. He gets a step from his position before Tommy, Arthur, John and Jeremiah run past the door, slamming the front door open. Arthur throws a passing, "Finn's in danger!" And that's all it takes for the Spine to be right on their heels and out the door, leaving his sister to wallow in her broken heart.
Polly had watched the three automatons closely from the start, heart aching when she realised just how childlike they act sometimes and just how much hope they still had in the world and humanity.
She'd seen Spine's realism crack into his resolve and stop him from having the hope his siblings still held. She'd seen Jon cracking and then imploding when his youthful resolve finally cracked and he accepted the situation. She hadn't thought she'd see Rabbit give up.
But she was the first one to return to the house once she knew Finn was safe, only to see Rabbit standing by the fire, burning his latest letter with oily tears dripping down his face and staining his clothes and the carpet by his feet, the occasional drop splashing into the hearth and making it flare.
She'd pulled Rabbit against her, ignoring that he was taller than her and that he'd get oil on her clothes, and Rabbit had come willingly, holding onto Polly tightly as he sobbed like a child that had seen death for the first time. Rabbit's knees had buckled at some point and ended up kneeling on the floor, holding onto Polly's skirts and weeping like a broken record until stasis forcefully took him under.
Polly doesn't know what happened to make Rabbit break, but she did know that Rabbit and Spine didn't talk to each other for two months after that despite being almost attached at the hip beforehand. She hopes for them to make up with each other soon because it was starting to strain Jon.

Two hours later and one Caitlyn Ratajczyk had been fitted with a bright pink cast on her broken foot. Ryley had advised that Katie elevated her foot whenever she could, not to get her cast wet and to wear her walking boot whenever she would be on her feet.
“So I can try out for the color guard club?” Katie asked, brightening up at the doctor’s approval. “Awesome!”
“Just don’t overdo it, mo stór,” I warned her in a motherly tone of voice. “You have a serious injury- you need to take care of your body now!”
“Yes mommy!” she agreed with a happy giggle before limping off after Elizabeth as the two girls experienced a massive case of the zoomies with the babies.
“Do you two want me to make copies of everything for Katie’s school file?” Ryley asked Peter and me, removing her glasses to wipe them using the hem of her t-shirt.
“Yes please, my wife and I are not paying a penny towards Katie’s care,” my husband gritted out through clenched teeth. “I swear, parents these days are using their kids’ disabilities as an excuse to get out of shit.”
“I agree wholeheartedly with you, my love,” I sighed as Ryley excused herself to go and make copies of the paperwork.
Giggle giggle giggle giggle
I peeked out the door and was unable to hide the face splitting grin from overtaking my face. The babies were all doodling on Katie’s cast, using markers from the nurse’s station and Elizabeth was overseeing everything, keeping a close eye on all of the babies.
Giggle giggle giggle giggle
“I AM THE GOD OF HELLFIRE AHHHHHH”
Giggle giggle giggle giggle
“Hihi Walter!” I greeted Baby Kit’s father. “Are you in the hospital lobby now?”
Giggle giggle giggle giggle
“Hello, Mary Claire. I just parked and will be making my way up to the hospital in a minute.”
Giggle giggle giggle giggle
“Okay, I’ll go grab Baby Kit and get her ready to hand her off to you!” I hung up and stuck my phone back into my bra before going out and collecting Baby Kit into my arms. “Can you wave goodbye?”
“Bye bye!” she babbled cutely, waving her little baby hand to the kids as I whisked her out into the lobby, where I smoothly passed her off to her father just as he was entering the hospital lobby. “Daddy!”
“Hello there, kitty cat!” he laughed, tossing her into the air and catching her. “Thanks again for watching her.”
“Oh, no need to thank me! It’s always a pleasure!” I laughed, booping the blind child’s nose playfully.
After chit chatting for a few more minutes, Walter and Baby Kit went off on their way and I returned back to the examination room, meeting with Ryley as we both crossed paths.
“Hihi Ryley,” I greeted her with a smile. “Can Katie get a removable cast in a few weeks?”
“It’s too soon to know for certain, but Katie did suffer a serious break,” she took me, pushing her glasses up further onto her nose. “But I would have to say as of right now that the answer is no.”
“Ah, okay.” I took a quick picture of Katie frolicking around the hospital, being certain to keep her weight off of her foot, sending the photograph to Ken Anderson.
KEN THE MAN: oh no, is Katie okay?
MARY CLAIRE: she broke her foot at school today.
KEN THE MAN: oh no, poor baby! what accommodations can I make for her to make it easier for The Nightmare Before Christmas- a Broadway Musical?
I smiled at how sweet the man was.
MARY CLAIRE: no idea what accommodations she’ll be needing. Stay tuned?
KEN THE MAN: absolutely mama!
I giggled before posting the picture to my personal Instagram.
@Mary_Claire_Ratajczyk_Official, well, the good news is that Katie seems to be completely unfazed with her new shoe!#castbaby #mostór #brokenbones #mommysbabygirl #livelaughlove #ratajczykfamilyloveandkisses, at @mercymemorialhospital with @therealpetersteeleoffical and @doctorryleyratajczyk

@petesteele4ever, sending hugs from Portugal!
@Peter_Steele===========8) broken bones are no fun! But at least Katie has a rad colored cast!
@midnightshadowpuppet, OH NO OH NO OH NO NO NO NO
@chocolaterobotchicken, oh no what happened?
@lzziegreen, get better soon!
@MissMittensthemotherlycat, oh no, not my kitten!
I smiled at all of the sweet messages being sent our way before tucking my cell phone back into my bra and reentering the exam room, where I found Ryley providing Peter with four identical folders of X-rays, notes and other such papers.
“I made four copies of everything,” she told him with a smile as the kids trickled back into the room. “If you need absolutely anything else at all, you all have my phone number.”

are you kidding me - peter parker (soulmate!au) part 4
are you kidding me? - peter parker (soulmate!au) - part 4
pairing: peter parker x stark!female!reader summary: during your everlasting rivalry against peter parker, you’re unlucky enough to find out that not only is he spider-man (your dad’s new kid), but he is also your soulmate. god help us all. (soulmate au where you have a mark of where your soulmate first touches you) word count: 969 requested?: yes! warnings: pure teenage angst, a brief mention of smexy themes if u squint, y/n having major commitment issues, sad baby peter a/n: i apologize for the wait! this chapter is highkey garbage but i’m really trying to get back into writing :( shoutout to my girls for helping motivate me ;-; [part 1] [part 2] [part 3]
In the weeks following the patrolling incident, Y/N avoided Peter like the plague. To blame it on trust and abandonment issues, it would never be a fair fight when it comes to her justification. Although she would never admit it, witnessing Peter fall to pieces directly in front of her--half-expecting her to sew him back together--caused her to spiral. She figured, if she never allowed herself to show any vulnerability, Peter would never come to be disappointed with her. The last person she wanted any resentment from, aside from her own father, was Peter. Though this was to contradict their adversarial relationship, Y/N continuously held his opinions to a higher standard than anyone else. Although at this point of their complex relationship, there was truly nothing to hide. Whether it was against his, hers, or the universe’s will, either could hear each other’s thoughts, feel each other’s pain, and understand each other’s sentiments. Despite making it her life’s mission to prevent Peter from ever invading her mind palace, it was essentially impractical to avoid his presence at Midtown. As far as anyone knew, Y/N “Walters” and Peter Parker were “enemies attached at the hip.” Almost enrolled in every AP course possible, participating in the same extracurricular activities, even having the same lunch period made it damn near impossible. Making matters worse, Peter was constantly making an effort to make amends for their less-than-perfect past. Even if their insult guns were cocked and ready, neither party was ready for the cruel and empty words that were thrown at each other. As previously emphasized, the tension that the pair created in the atmosphere was almost overbearing at times. It came to a point in which their peers would create bets on when the “apparent sexual tension” would finally be released--the main perpetrator of such bets being Flash and (at her wit’s end) MJ. Desperately trying to push aside from their individual imperfections, Peter would corner her in the hallways, classrooms, and even her own bedroom to just simply apologize on his own behalf. But that goddamn Stark pride was a worldwide novelty. Y/N, keeping in mind that Peter had already torn into her massive ego, still held her head as high as she could. His criticism fell on deaf ears as she somehow wiggled her way out of every confrontation possible. In school, it was easy to play by the rules of their rivalry. She would always throw the same vicious cycle of signature Stark ™ remarks: “Oh, Pete-y baby, you wanna kiss?”; “Sorry Parker, I’m gonna have to give you blue balls--I have class right now!”; and other snarky comments of the same caliber. However, when it came to the complex--the visits that were few and far between--Peter genuinely had no clue as to exactly how Y/N could avoid him. Usually she would be more than prepared, calling out some sort of security protocol to FRIDAY that would usher him (rather aggressively) out of her room. Sometimes, out of the entire complex until Happy would unlock the door for him. Unfortunately for Peter, once was one too many times for Happy and soon Pepper became his doorwoman. Let it be noted that Peter is a fairly patient person, but when it came Y/N--she tested every nerve in his body. He was never sure why he always felt such animosity towards the Stark daughter, but he physically could not pull the reins on his competitive nature. Mind you, he purely disregarded looks and actual personality (which, trust, Y/N was overflowing in that department) to narrow in on her academic stance compared to his. Now, in the recent turn of events, Peter would take advantage of the rare moments where he could take in her beauty (natural or otherwise). Then, the sudden feeling of rejection would infiltrate any sort of daydream that could possibly gain traction when Y/N would rip herself from his mind. Demanding an obscene amount of space from him, Y/N locked herself away from him--deliberately eliminating any hopes of forgiveness and consolation in the near future. Peter currently sat in his small bedroom, spent from the day’s worth of school and patrolling. Thankful for the lack of crime within the day, he was sprawled on top of his twin-size mattress and still was attempting to catch his breath from the brief altercation he experienced before he finished patrolling for the afternoon. It was yet another attempted robbery, but it was somehow smaller than the encounter from a few weeks prior. Peter stared at his ceiling, trying to devise the best way to confront Y/N and otherwise figure out their soulmate connection.
Please don’t do this right now, Peter.
Wha--I wasn’t doing anything--
How do you repeatedly forget that I can hear you? Even if you think that you are dialing it down, it’s still loud and clear--constantly present in my mind.
Y/N continued as Peter did not respond.
Look, Peter, I want this to work out as much as the next person...but I honestly cannot find it in me to push aside everything that we’ve been through together. I don’t want to damage you, Peter. I don’t know how you are trying to go about this...I’ve always known you to be persistent with seeing the best in people, but I am, honest to God, the last person you should spare with optimism. So, if you really want to care about me, don’t try to talk to me, don’t look my way, and certainly don’t want to come to the compound.
And, in one final sentence, Y/N shattered the last resort of their potential relationship.
I’m sorry, Peter, but I can’t do this.
Without a second to respond, Y/N cut herself out from Peter’s mind.

Far away - P. Parker.
This is an overload of angst, inspired by - and named after - ‘Far Away’ by Nickleback (yes, I’m a nickleback fan, I’m sorry). There WILL be a part two.
No this was not requested, and the gif is not mine. I hope y’all like it!
Original story by sarcastically-defensive17
WARNING: the contents of this story may be triggering to some readers. This story contains: domestic arguing, mentions of familial death and guilt, mentions of violence, mentions of abandonment, pregnancy, Peter and Y/N both being bitches, and all round angst. Please do not read if this may cause you any offense or trigger you in any way
It had been near 2 months since she had seen Peter. In person, that is.
The relationship between Y/F/N and Peter Parker was an odd one. Best friends through middle school, they were like two peas in a pod. Inseparable to the point where Y/N was adopted as an honorary Parker.
In high school, tragedy struck both of them. Y/N’s mother left, divorcing her father and leaving for California. Ben Parker died, shot by a lawless mugger when he was out looking for Peter. Peter blamed himself. Y/N fell in with the popular crowd, looking for any chance to distract herself from her overwhelming anger. Peter became distracted, finding any and every excuse to escape school once he began an internship with Mr. Tony Stark. Peter and Y/N often vied for the attention of Liz Allen, their crushes on the woman making their anger with one another overflow whenever they were in each other’s presence.
In University, they reunited and decided to start over. One thing led to another and they quickly became lovers, with distance between.
Until she fell pregnant. 7 months into their relationship, she found out about the new life growing inside of her. She was ecstatic, but full of nerves. Peter was anxious, worried for his child and the woman he loved.
Life as Spider-Man was hectic. He grappled with the thought of her getting hurt because of him every day. He had seen the danger that had come to Pepper, what happened to Ben, Ned, almost everybody he held dear.
Her first trimester went by with a rocky start. Y/N fought with her own fears, wondering how she could be a mother when her own wasn’t there to teach her. Nevertheless, she loved peter. She gave her all to him, but he was distant, growing more so every day.
She didn’t want him to go. He had risked his life - and their relationship - far too many times in the past year. He knew it was a risk, he knew his life would be in danger every second he was undercover, but he still went.
Then Tony told him to go undercover.
She was in New York, about to hit her third trimester, and he was in Belgium, unaware of the life growing inside of her.
He broke the news to her of his undercover mission with Clint three nights before he left. That same day, he had missed their scheduled appointment to find out the sex of their baby.
To say there was an argument would be an understatement.
She had printed the picture up, gotten a card for him, and left it waiting on their shared bed for when he got home. Spider-Man was only half of his job, the other half was spent with incredibly long hours at the lab with Tony working on whatever their incredible minds could think of that day.
Sometimes she felt as if their relationship had been mostly made up of her waiting on him.
He had walked in the door, moving to gather his stuff together from the spare room they had in their apartment that housed his gear. They were set to turn it into a nursery.
He told her of the mission as soon as he walked in, immediately erasing the excited grin from her features.
“How long is it going to take?” She fought the nerves from building, knowing that the longest mission he had been on before had been two weeks. Tony told her when her and peter moved in together that Peter wouldn’t be expected to go on a mission any longer than that.
Peter sighed, grabbing a large bag. He had to head back for debriefing, and training before the mission began. He didn’t expect to be back home before he had to leave. He didn’t want to leave her, but he had came to terms with the fact that he was Spider-Man before he was Peter.
“I don’t know, Y/N. At least a month and a half-“
“You can’t go!” She interrupted.
Peter chuckled softly, paying no mind to her growing anger. “Yeah, I do. Clint and I are the only ones that can go unnoticed. Nobody has seen my face, and Clint has done so many undercover missions. He’s practically living a new life every month.” He hustled around the room once again, grabbing every box of spare cartridges for his web shooters. “After all, this is what I do.”
Y/N scoffed. Recently, he had been putting everything before his family. He missed their anniversary in favour of working on a new web formula with Tony. Her birthday was spent alone with nothing but a 10 minute phone call from him because he was on patrol. Now, he had missed the day they had both been looking forward to for months.
She didn’t want to be selfish, she loved him fiercely, but his child needed him too. Every time he left the house with his suit, she feared for his life. Now, she had the baby to think about too. It was about more than just her.
She tried to push down her feeling that he didn’t even want to be a father.
Peter rolled his eyes at her scoff. “Y/N. I’m Spider-Man. That means that I need to help people, not just be here when you want me to.”
“That’s not what it is, Peter!” She exclaimed, eyes widening at his words. “I’m due in three months!”
He rubbed his hand down his face, huffing. “Y/N, can you just stop? Please? I need to go, and you’re not going to stop me. This is my job. Tony and May are here.”
“I thought your ‘job’ was spending hours with Stark and forgetting that I exist,” she snarled, making quotation signs with her hands. Tensions had been high between them lately, the past two weeks turning their house into a war zone. She was sure her news would bring a happier note, but the news was all but forgotten at the time. “We are your family, Peter!
His eyes were blazing with anger, his bags in his hands as he slipped past her to the door. He spared a look at her swollen stomach, almost sadly.
“Peter!” She called after him as he ignored her, stomping through their apartment.
She tried a few more times, latching onto his hand as he got closer to the door.
“Please, don’t go. The last mission you were on, you came back with four broken ribs and a concussion. I can’t lose you, we need you,” he refused to look at her.
“You won’t lose me, y/n. I’m an adult, I don’t need you to babysit me. Enough, I need to go. This is about more than just you, so please cut the crap,” he sighed at her, anger pulling his brows down and crinkling his nose in the way she had memorized.
Y/N had struggled with trust issues since before her mother left, and she had used all of her courage to trust peter, but the anger and fear were too much, her mouth working without instruction. “Why don’t you just fucking admit that you don’t want to have a family, Peter? You’ve made it perfectly obvious that the baby means nothing to you!”
That set him off. “Grow the fuck up, Y/N. This may shock you, but this isn’t about you, for once! Don’t you ever say that I don’t want this child.”
She scoffed at him again, spitting, “you couldn’t even bother to fucking show up for the sonogram today. Our baby is fine by the way, not that it matters, obviously.”
His laugh was evil. “You’re so fucking perfect, aren’t you? I’m sorry that I have a job, unlike you. I fucking save people, every day. I don’t have time to hold your hand through fucking everything because you’re a narcissist!”
She was taken aback by his shout, her next words flying out without the filter between her brain and mouth coming into action. “You know what? Fine!” She shoved his arm away. “If you walk out that door, don’t fucking bother coming back. You don’t care that we need you here, so don’t even bother being apart of this.”
“You’re kicking me out because I’m going on a mission?” His laugh was sarcastic, almost full of disbelief. “You really are selfish, Y/N.” He wrenched the door open with his free hand, not bothering to kiss her like he always did before a mission. No further words were exchanged, only a longing glance at her stomach and a fleeting look in her eyes.
She was left in the quiet apartment.
She trudged to their room - her room, now - fighting the tears threatening to fall. The photo of their baby was sitting carefully on the bed right next to the card.
The dam broke, tears streamed down her face and sobs ripped from her chest.
She picked up the photo of herself and Peter from when they announced their pregnancy. He was on his knees in front of her, hands on either side of her small bump, smiling brightly with love in his eyes, and she was looking at him the same way.
She flung it against the wall, watching the glass shatter from the frame and fall to the ground.
She pulled the card up from its spot, reading over the words inside.
‘I have loved you all along, Peter. Thank you for beginning this journey with me. We’re so far from where we began.
I know that our little girl will be as perfect as you are.
All my love, Y/N.”
The two months has passed agonizingly slow. Her heart wrenched each day when she woke to an empty bed. Their baby grew steadily, now a month away from making her entrance.
Her new routine had been to watch the news every morning before her daily run. Her work hours had decreased, but she filled her schedule to clear her head, in order to stop the pain.
She hadn’t spoken to peter since he left, she barely even knew where he was.
Jedd Walters was on the news, his booming voice echoing through her house as she watched from the kitchen.
“This just in,” his voice grew more urgent. “After months of being undercover, we are saddened to report that beloved Avengers, Spider-Man and Hawkeye are missing after a KGB detonated bombing brought down the building they were in. After two days of searching, neither man has been found, but many Belgium citizens have been wounded, with no casualties as of yet. More information will come available as the story progresses.”
The scream that tore from her throat was full of pain, and the tears that fell from her cheeks burned.

“An Injustice Crying Out to Heaven”: Muslim Persecution of Christians, July 2020
by Raymond Ibrahim
A Muslim man broke into the historic Holy Cross Church in Turkey and started crying “Allahu Akbar.”
The following are among the abuses inflicted on Christians throughout the month of July, 2020:
The Slaughter of Christians
Uganda: A group of Muslims beat and drowned a pastor and another Christian for sharing the Gospel with their coreligionists. Peter Kyakulaga, pastor of the Church of Christ, and church member Tuule Mumbya, had begun to sail across Lake Nakuwa, where they would meet and evangelize to Muslims. More “hard-line” Muslims disliked this: “We have discovered that your mission is not to fish but to hold Christian meetings and then convert Muslims to Christianity,” a man told them. “We are not going to take this mission of yours lightly. This is our last warning to you.” On the next day in late June, Christian villagers came knocking on the door of David Nabyoma, a local leader:
They were requesting help, saying Muslims from Lugonyola had invaded the area around the lakeside, and several Christians were reported to have been injured, including my son. Immediately we rushed to the scene of the incident with several Christians. We hired four boats and drove to the lake and found out that two of the Christians had been badly beaten and drowned in the lake and died instantly.
Pastor Peter, 25, is survived by a wife and two children, 2 and 4; congregant Tuule, 22, is survived by a wife and a 2-year-old child.
Mozambique: Islamic militants have been responsible for “escalating extremist violence” in Cabo Delgado Province, where they have been attempting to carve out an Islamic state [on August 14, ISIS captured the port], and “where multiple churches have been burnt, people beheaded, young girls kidnapped, and hundreds of thousands of people displaced by the violence,” according to a July 23 report. More than one thousand have been slaughtered since 2017, when the Islamic uprising began. In one week in June, 15 people were beheaded in the Christian-majority nation. Discussing the situation, Bishop Lisboa said: “The world has no idea yet what is happening because of indifference. We do not yet have the solidarity that there should be.” One of the worst incidents occurred on Good Friday, when the terrorists torched a church and massacred 52 people. After explaining how five or six chapels were torched in just one recent month, the bishop described what happened to the historic Sacred Heart of Jesus mission:
They attacked the church and burnt the benches and a statue of Our Lady, made of ebony. They also destroyed an image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, to whom the parish is dedicated. Fortunately, they were unable to burn the building itself, only the benches.
What is happening is “an injustice that is crying out to heaven” he concluded. Paulo Rangel, a Portuguese Member of the European Parliament, also discussed the situation in Mozabique: “The international community is nowhere to be seen in regard to the problem,” he said:
The people were already living in extreme poverty, facing grave difficulties. [The] problem is that at the present moment these people are facing the threat of death, of losing their homes, of becoming uprooted…. At present we know that there are young girls who have been abducted and enslaved, forced into sexual slavery by some of these guerrillas, these insurgents, these terrorists…We know that the recruitment of boys and adolescents, some of them very young, aged 14, 15, 16, is also happening. It is obvious that these young boys are under coercion. If they refuse to join the group, they could be killed.
Nigeria: In a 35-second video posted July 22, Islamic terrorists executed five men, three of whom were Christians. Blindfolded and on their knees, with the executors standing behind them, one of the terrorists said,
This is a message to all those being used by infidels to convert Muslims to Christianity. We want you out there to understand that those of you being used to convert Muslims to Christianity are only being used for selfish purposes. And that is the reason whenever we capture you, they don’t care to rescue you or work towards securing your release from us; and this is because they don’t need you or value your lives. We therefore, call on you to return to Allah by becoming Muslims. We shall continue to block all routes you travel. If you don’t heed our warning, the fate of these five individuals will be your fate.
Then the speaker says bismillah—meaning, “in the name of Allah”—and the executioners shoot their captives in the backs of their heads.
Additionally, at least 171 Christians were slaughtered by Muslim Fulani herdsmen in the space of roughly three weeks: Summaries of some follow:
On July 10, Muslim herdsmen massacred 22 Christians — “mostly women and children” — and torched many homes. “They killed two of my children [and husband],” recalled Bilkisu James from her hospital bed. They also “hacked another five of Bilkisu’s relatives to death with machetes including a mother and her baby daughter and a mother and her two sons.”
On July 11, a neighboring village was raided: “ten women, a baby and an elderly man were burnt to death in a house where they had taken refuge. Another seven villagers were injured and four houses burnt out.”
On July 19, people attending a wedding celebration were among at least 32 Christians massacred in Fulani attacks.
On July 23, a “horrific night attack [was launched] during a torrential rain storm … [A]t least seven Christians died… as militants brutally hacked unarmed men and women and children to death with machetes.” The report adds that “This was the second attack on the village within days, with seven murdered in an attack days earlier.”
On July 29, Muslim herdsmen murdered another 14 Christians — 13 of whom belonged to one extended family. Only one member of the family remained alive; his wife, all his children, aunt, uncle, brother, and other relatives were slaughtered.
Attacks on Christian Churches
Turkey: A Muslim man broke into Holy Cross, a historic Armenian cathedral in eastern Turkey, and proceeded to recite the adhan—the Islamic call to prayer traditionally made from mosques—while others videotaped him. He repeatedly chanted “Allahu Akbar,” and proclaimed the Islamic creed or shahada. He also wrote graffiti on the church walls: “Raising the Adhan in the church’s sanctuary has brought life back to it.” The July 2 report adds that,
Most churches and monasteries in Turkey have been left abandoned following the genocides of Christian peoples in the early 20th century and the mass emigration of Christians from the country due to decades of persecution. As a result, many churches in Turkey were left to ruin or turned into mosques or stables for animals.
In a separate incident, right before the start of Sunday worship service on July 12, a Turkish man appeared at the Antalya Bible Church and asked to speak to church leadership. He was told to return on the next day, and did so—only to issue death and arson threats to a pastor: “You and Özgür [another church leader] are dead. I broke the window of this church a few months ago, will attack again and, if necessary, burn it.” Security intervened and he was asked to leave before police were involved. Later it was revealed that police had apprehended him when he first broke the church’s windows, but released him because he had expressed “regret.”
Pakistan: A church was forced to take down its cross. Barnabas, a Christian resident of the village, explains:
We constructed three floors of minarets on a church and fixed the cross on top of that. However, it was removed after we received threats from local Muslims. The Muslims demanded we remove the cross and all three floors of the minarets, therefore, we had to obey them. Now, the building does not look like a church. It’s just a room and therefore we are sad.
“With broken hearts,” a local pastor added, the congregation agreed to take the cross down—even though “it was an illegal demand against Pakistan’s constitution, which guarantees religious freedom to all citizens.”
We took this decision for the safety and protection of Christians in the village…. Muslims threatened that if we don’t remove the cross, they will ban the prayer services and take the church property.… The authorities must look into this matter and ensure freedom of religion to all the segments of society.
In a separate incident, police violently interrupted a Christian prayer service. According to a brief July 13 report,
A priest was leading a prayer before providing a free meal for the poor when police officers appeared, and without further notice, they started damaging the stuff for prayer service…. Policemen turned down the meal, thrashed the pastor and people present. They captured the small sound-system, and beat men and women.
Another report offers more details concerning the fate of Raja Walter, the event organizer, who works to “raise funds to help people who are unfortunate or who have been severely affected by the coronavirus”:
[A]rmed policemen without a badge identifying them came to the food point and attacked him. He was beaten and tortured. Agents also smashed the loudspeaker he uses to motivate people and recite prayers before handing out food. The attack began as Raja was handing out food. As they struck him, the agents threw away his heart medicines and mobile phone. When they tried to arrest him, women present at the scene began to cry and pray for Walter, who by then had lost consciousness.
“It is ridiculous to treat Mr. Raja Walter like that,” a beneficiary of the free food said: “He has never done anything wrong to anyone. He is like an angel; he supports the poor and needy.” The attack, notes the report, “was likely caused by the use of speakers for praying.”
Canada: On July 28, a 16-year-old Muslim refugee from Syria pleaded guilty to four counts of terrorism. His schemes—including “a solo operation in the next few days”—were shared with and exposed by an undercover FBI agent posing as a fellow ISIS supporter online. “Churches,” the Muslim youth had written, and other “crowded places filled with crucifix believers” were among his primary targets. “Detonators, containers filled with white powders that turned out to be explosives, and diagrams of improvised explosive devices were among the 95 exhibits they seized. It was a bomb lab,” says the report. His sentencing is set for September.
France: After fire broke out in the Cathedral of Nantes—caused by an asylum seeker—“Muslim [social media] users, mostly of Arab origin, and their leftist fanboys in Central Europe express[ed] their enthusiasm and glee online, according to a July 19 German-language report. Such expressions appeared all throughout social media, but “especially Facebook,” where “the sympathizers of Islamization bluntly celebrated their satisfaction: through laughing or smiley emoticons or ‘like’ clicks they expressed what they think of burning Christian houses of worship.” The report further observed that “this type of expression of opinion … does not lead to the deletion and blocking of the users by social media teams—whereas masses of [other types of] comments are deleted as ‘hate speech.’”
Attacks on Converts to Christianity
Kenya: A pack of seven Muslims beat Fozia, a Christian woman, aged 21, till she lost consciousness. They also broke the teeth of her sister, Asha, aged 19, and beat their 18-year-old brother. Problems began when “Muslims started questioning us why we were not attending Friday worship at the mosque,” Fozia explained. “This interrogation continued for several months.” Then one day, when the siblings went outside their home to restore its water supply, they saw a raucous group of Somalis approaching: “There were noisy shouts calling us infidels,” recalled Fozia:
They said, “We know you do not belong to us. We have got hold of you today – we have no mercy on you people. You need to return to where you came from.” They began hitting me with sticks and a blunt object, which injured my back and my right hand. There I fainted for five hours and regained consciousness at the hospital [where she remained for two days].
“The attackers injured me by hitting my head against the wall,” her sister Asha added. “My two front teeth got broken, and the attack caused the left side of my body to swell…” According to their widowed mother, the family has been “running for their lives from Muslims of Somali descent who have attacked them for nearly 10 years:
[And now we] are receiving threats that my children should withdraw the case from police if we are to remain safe. But we demand compensation for my three ailing children and medication for them. Three weeks have now gone by, and my children are constantly on pain killers.
These are not the first attacks on the apostate family; according to the report,
In 2016 Somali Muslims attacked another of her adult sons, beating him unconscious. Muslim Somalis in Nairobi had seriously injured the same son on Oct. 27, 2011, after they learned that family members had become Christian. The Somali neighbors hit him with a metal bar on his forehead and face, and he lost two teeth and sustained knife wounds to his hand. They left him for dead. Her family has suffered various attacks since embracing Christ. After she filed a police complaint about an attack by Somali Muslims in Kenya in 2014, no fewer than 10 Islamic elders visited her to warn that she was risking her life by doing so. Somalis generally believe all Somalis are Muslims by birth and that any Somali who becomes a Christian can be charged with apostasy, punishable by death.
Morocco: “Converts to Christianity in Morocco have been repeatedly arrested by police as part of a campaign clamping down on the Faith,” says a July 17 report; some have been arrested as many as three times in one week. Jawad Elhamidy, president of the Moroccan Association of Rights and Religious Liberties, elaborated:
Most are released after interrogation—but are often put under pressure to return to Islam, and face abuse when they refuse…. The penal code holds that all Moroccans are Muslims, so those who convert to Christianity face legal problems, beside threats to their security.
As one example, he gave the story of Mohamed al-Moghany, who converted to Christianity, and “whose employer had waved a gun at him and threatened to kill him.”
When Mr. Al Moghany filed a complaint with police, he was told not to speak about his conversion and threats were made against his family. Six months later, following an argument with his employer, he was arrested and sentenced to six months in prison. His wife was interrogated as well…. If a Moroccan enters a church, one of two things can happen—either a policeman sitting in front of the church arrests him or her, or the cleric in charge of the church asks the person to leave, unless the purpose is tourism….Moroccan Christians worship in secret house churches to avoid state sanctions or harassment from society.
The report elaborates:
[I]t is even more dangerous for Christian converts when allegations of blasphemy are made—Christians have been held for several days and there have been incidents of violence…. Unlike foreign Christians, converts do not enjoy freedom of worship under the law…. Foreign clergy are said to discourage Moroccan Christians from attending their churches because of fear of being criminally charged with proselytism. Under Moroccan law, proselytising or converting to another religion is a criminal offence punishable by between six months and three years in prison.
Generic Abuse of Christians
Pakistan: A group of 12 Muslim men, led by one Muhammad Irfan, broke into a Christian man’s household, “and tried to kidnap his [13-year-old] daughter, Noor, who they planned to rape and forcefully convert to Islam,” says a July 26 report. When the man and his family intervened, the Muslims thrashed them. “He often teased and disturbed my daughter in the streets, but we always ignored,” explained the girl’s mother:
Finally, Irfan forcibly entered into my house and intended to kidnap my daughter. However, we resisted. In response, he attacked and beat my entire family who got multiple injuries. My husband and others got injuries in the attack. However, police have not registered the case against Irfan and medical staff have not provided medical aid to the injured.
The report adds that “Local supporters of Irfan have issued threats against the family… [They] have threatened to burn down their house if they pursue legal action against Irfan and the other attackers.”
Yemen: “Christians living in Yemen,” a July 28 report says, “request prayer as they experience persecution amidst ongoing war, food shortages, and COVID-19.”
These challenges have created a significant burden of isolation, both spiritually and physically. The Christian population, which once numbered approximately 40,000, is reduced to only a few thousand. Most live unaware of each other’s existence and in great fear of discovery from their neighbors… [The current] environment has led to persecution that keeps the church underground.
Germany: Two knife-wielding Muslim men attacked and injured a Christian refugee from Syria in the streets of Berlin. According to the July 7 report, the victim, Kevork Almassian, who is of Armenian descent, had started receiving death threats a year ago, after “Syrian Islamist activist” Nahla Osman began accusing the Christian refugee of spreading “hate” through his work at a German magazine, which eventually capitulated to Islamist protests and fired Kevork.
Lebanon/Turkey: As a sign of growing Turkish influence, Neshan Der Haroutiounian, a Lebanese television host of Armenian descent, will stand trial in Lebanon for “insulting the Turkish president and the Turkish people,” apparently in the context of the Ottoman Empire’s genocide of Armenians. At one point during the live show he accused someone (unclear if a caller in or panelist) who was accusing him of being a dishonest troublemaker of being “A son of a million malicious people … Erdogan, the regime, the Ottomans, and the Turks.” Turkey’s authorities responded by calling on the Lebanese Foreign Ministry to take measures against the television host; the Turkish Embassy mobilized protesters in front of the television station. They “raised Turkish flags, chanted slogans in support of the Ottoman Empire and Erdogan and called on Al Jadeed TV and those in charge of the programme to ‘apologise for what happened.’” The Beirut public prosecutor responded by announcing that charges would be filed against Haroutiounian, who is scheduled to stand trial in October. The report notes:
A Lebanese journalist, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that there were no grounds for the judicial charges against Der Haroutiounian. “This is a matter of a historical dispute that has no prospect, knowing that it is about a great crime against the Armenian people — a crime that Turkey refuses to recognise. This in itself continues to provoke Armenians wherever they are,” the journalist told The Arab Weekly…. Some Lebanese Armenians’ harsh criticism of Turkey seems to embarrass Lebanese authorities, who have tried to intimidate them into observing certain ‘red lines.’ There are numerous external forces pressuring Lebanon, starting with Iranian proxy Hezbollah. Turkey is now attempting to curb Lebanon’s hard-fought freedoms, of which its citizens are rightly proud, by also exerting pressure on Lebanese authorities.
Egypt: A Christian wife and mother who disappeared for nearly three months—supposedly because she had willingly converted to Islam and no longer wanted any connection to her “infidel” husband and three young daughters—was finally returned to her family. Ranya ‘Abd al-Masih, 39, a high school teacher of English had disappeared on April 22. A few days after her family contacted state security, she appeared in a one minute video dressed in a black niqab (female Islamic attire). In the video, and in between tears, Ranya insisted that she had finally and formally converted to Islam, which—“praise be to Allah”—she had been secretly following and concealing from her family for nine years. Accordingly, she no longer wanted anyone—her husband, children, family—to bother about her anymore. From the start, her family refused to believe the video and gave compelling reasons why. “We’ve no problem for her to go [to Islam] of her own free will—based on conviction—but not as a person who is threatened and coerced into doing so,” her brother, Remon, explained: “She was definitely kidnapped and forced to make that video, due to threats against her or her husband and children if she refused to comply.” For nearly three months, Ranya’s family and the Coptic Church pleaded with local authorities—even sending a special petition to President Sisi—until she was finally returned, on July 15. A Christian spokesman said that Ranya and her reunited family are currently staying in an undisclosed location, “until calm returns” to the region. Due to the delicate nature of the situation, the spokesman gave no other details concerning her disappearance and reemergence, other than to say that “Ranya remains a Christian who never once converted to Islam.”
Tunisia: A July 21 report sheds light on the “lack of full citizenship” rights and “societal stigmas” surrounding the Christians of arguably the world’s most tolerant Arab nation. According to its abstract:
Although Tunisia is usually presented as ethno-religiously homogenous when compared to other countries in the region, its minorities have long undergone a process of invisibilisation and/or assimilation into the dominant Arab-Muslim identity. Moving from a status of dhimmi [second class citizens] under Muslim empires … is the quest of Tunisia’s religious minorities for full citizenship still ongoing?… [T]he research shows that religious minorities, although having acquired a certain set of rights, still lack full citizenship to some extent and face societal stigma.

About this Series
The persecution of Christians in the Islamic world has become endemic. Accordingly, “Muslim Persecution of Christians” was developed in 2011 to collate some—by no means all—of the instances of persecution that occur or are reported each month. It serves two purposes:
1) To document that which the mainstream media does not: the habitual, if not chronic, persecution of Christians.
2) To show that such persecution is not “random,” but systematic and interrelated—that it is rooted in a worldview inspired by Islamic Sharia.

February 23, 2021: His Girl Friday (Part 2)
Gotta say, I’m loving this movie...but FUCK Walter, holy...
I, uh...I was going to look up a GIF of Walter from Sleepless in Seattle to bring up a point...but then I found this GIF of a gerenuk eating popcorn, and I HAD to use it Because, I mean...look at that shit. That shit’s gold. Also helps that I love gerenuks.
And yet these are the only two GIFs of gerenuks on here? C’mon guys, get on this. They have the longest neck of any antelope species, they’re like stretchy impala, man! AM I ALONE ON THIS? HAVE YOU SEEN THEM EATING???
...Wait...OH RIGHT MOVIE. Sorry...I like gerenuks. ON WITH THE RECAP (Part 1 right here)!
Recap (2/2)
After escorting Mollie out of the room and scolding the men for their conduct, Hildy gets a call notifying her that Bruce was arrested for stealing a watch. Uh oh; looks like we know what Walter told the short guy to do. GODDAMN, WALTER IS A DICK. I get why Hildy divorced him.
Hildy goes down to the jail and convinces the jailer to release Bruce. As they head home in a car, Bruce realizes that his wallet has been stolen, as well as other things from his pockets. Yeah, wow, so Walter’s an absolute asshole...and I’m starting to wonder whether or not Hildy and him are getting back together after all. GODDAMN, I hope not. Because he literally had a dude steal all of Bruce’s shit, JUST to keep Hildy there. Absolute asshole.
Meanwhile, the journalists read Hildy’s article, noting how good it is. And it is good, but it also obviously feels pretty goddamn manipulative, which is accurate. Again, I get why Hildy wants to leave the profession. Hildy returns as the put odds on how long her marriage will last, and calls Walter on the phone.
She says the following to him:
Now, get this, you double-crossing chimpanzee: There ain't going to be any interview and there ain't going to be any story. And that certified check of yours is leaving with me in twenty minutes. I wouldn't cover the burning of Rome for you if they were just lighting it up. If I ever lay my two eyes on you again, I'm gonna walk right up to you and hammer on that monkeyed skull of yours 'til it rings like a Chinese gong!
...HOLY SHIT. That was fucking GLORIOUS. She hangs up and storms out, understandably enraged, and bids her farewell to the newspaper business. Meanwhile, Earl’s being interviewed by a psychiatrist in a prison across the street. He’s tired, but they still have more questions for him, despite the fact that he’s being executed the following morning. He once again states that he’s innocent.
Hildy says a finally poetic farewell to her fellow journalists, and then BANGBANGBANGBANGBANGBANG!!! From across the streets, gunshots ring out and an alarm bell goes off! It’s a jailbreak, and Earl Williams has escaped! With some quick edits, the boys make their calls, and Hildy calls Walter, letting him know that she’s on the job! JUST WHEN YOU THINK YOU’RE OUT
As the journalists (and Hildy) are in pursuit, we quickly learn what’s going on through the reporters on the phone, as well as through a call from Hildy to Walter. She demands more money from him, as she had to spend Walter’s money to bribe the info out of a cop. In exchange, she gives him the scoop.
The doctor was getting Earl to re-enact the incident, but to do that, they needed a gun. So Sherriff Peter B. Hartwell (Gene Lockhart), a bumbling idiot of a sheriff who’s been appearing sparsely throughout the film, gave him the gun. Earl took the gun, and Earl SHOT the gun at the doctor, who will survive.
With that, Hildy’s about to get off the phone and leave in a cab with Bruce. In response to that, Walter sends a woman, Evangeline (Marion Martin) to “handle” Bruce, and I assume he’s getting her to seduce him. HE. IS. A. DICK. He also sends the short guy with the hat, Diamond Louie Paluso (Abner Biberman) over to give Hildy the money in counterfeit bills. GOD I FUCKIN’ HATE WALTER
Bruce calls Hildy once again as she’s about to leave. He’s been arrested. AGAIN. Evangeline’s in the background, and he explains that he’s been arrested for “mashing”. What’s mashing? Well, according to the post-gazette, it’s public sexual harassment. Apparently, in Omaha, you could be charged $5 for calling a woman a “chicken”, $10 for “honey-bunch”, $15 for “turtle-dove”, and $20 for “baby doll”. I mean...bring that back? I genuinely want somebody to go on Judge Judy to contest a $50 fine for catcalling someone on the street, BRING THIS SHIT BACK
Unfortunately, Hildy doesn’t have money to bail Bruce out this time, and needs to get it from Louie first. She leaves, and the Mayor (Clarence Kolb) arrives with the sheriff to talk with the journalists. The journalists basically tell each of them that they’re idiots, and leaves them behind. And as the two talk to each other, another man, Joe Pettibone (Billy Gilbert) comes in with a reprieve for Earl from the governor.
However, nobody else knows about this, and the sheriff’s men find Earl at that moment. They decide to go through with it, and tell Pettibone to claim that he got last as they tell the Sheriff’s men to shoot to kill.
Diamond Joe shows up with the counterfeit money, and Hildy tries to get him to confess his crimes to the cops. He leaves in a rush, leaving Hildy alone...until Earl shows up with a gun. And he’s NOT happy. He holds her at gunpoint, telling her not to try anything. All he wants is to be left alone.
Hildy manages to get ahold of the gun, and Earl gives up without any struggle. Hildy calls both Bruce and Walter to tell them the news, and that’s when Mollie shows up unexpectedly. She genuinely does seem to care for him, and Hildy ends up letting her in. And JUST THEN, some of the other journalists come in Hildy hides Earl in a desk, and Mollie fakes a fainting fit.
And THEN, just as Hildy’s trying to hide Earl from the curious journalists, Bruce’s mother Mrs. Baldwin (Alma Kruger) shows up, angry at Hildy for giving Bruce the run-around, and more than happy to have their engagement called off. However, she also reveals that Hildy told Bruce at Earl was there, riling up the reporters, and ollie distracts them by telling them she knows his whereabouts, then JUMPS OUT OF THE FUCKING WINDOW, but she LIVES, and then WALTER shows up, and
...Ow. OW. OK, where was I?
Right, Walter uses Louie to get Mrs. Baldwin out of there, while Earl is still in the desk. Hildy tries to go save both Mrs. Baldwain and Bruce, only for Walter, ASSHOLE that he is, schmoozes Hildy into going along with him, rather than taking care of Bruce. Goddamn it, Hildy.
Walter calls the paper to tell them to scrap the front page for the story that the newspaper has caught Earl Williams, which is technically true. Bruce shows up, having been bailed out, and is understandably frustrated. Fact of the matter is, Hildy’s kind of all but abandoned him for the story, and he wants to know if she ever ACTUALLY loved him. And honestly...this is NOT how I saw this going down.
He leaves, telling Hildy that he’s going off on the 9:00 train. However, Hildy, now completely lost in the story, doesn’t really hear anything Bruce is saying, and it’s weirdly tragic to me. And when Hildy asks where Bruce went, Walter says that he’ll be back. I...FUCKINHATEWALTER.
Hildy realizes this too late, of course, and that’s when Louie arrives, fresh out of a car accident, in which he and Mrs. Baldwin was involved. There’s a possibility that she’s died, putting YET ANOTHER thing on Walter’s shoulders. He’s genuinely a piece of shit, by God.
And as Hildy’s going to try and find Mrs. Baldwin, THAT is when the sheriff and the other journalists show up, all suspecting that Hildy knows where Earl is. Ever the disgusting shyster, he tries to con the men to carry the desk with Earl in it out f the building, which is something he’d been trying to do to keep the scoop in his grimy hands.
AND THEN, MRS. BALDWIN SHOWS UP. She accuses Walter, rightfully, as having her kidnapped, and he tries to con his way out of the situation once more, while Hildy’s trying to make amends all the while. Cornered and accused, he bangs on Earl’s desk three times to emphasize his point. And, uh...then Earl bangs back.
Jig’s up.
The capture leads to all of the journalists calling the main office, making stories about the capture all the way. They leave, and the mayor and sheriff remain with Hildy and Walter, and the two look finished.
AND THEN THE MESSENGER FROM BEFORE SHOWS UP WITH THE REPRIEVE. See, they told him to “come back later”. Well, it’s later, and he delivers the reprieve RIGHT in front of Hildy and Walter. Learning that Williams was reprieved, and that the Mayor and sheriff knew this and are STILL hanging him (with the Sheriff even about to kill him earlier in front of everyone)...well, it seems we have a predicament, is what I’m saying.
And after that, the two basically mutually blackmail each other, and the Mayor and sheriff leave. And with that, Hildy notes that they were lucky to get out of that scrape. And after all of this, AFTER FUCKING EVERYTHING...she’s still in love with Walter, isn’t she? Which is funny, because Walter reminds her of Bruce, and tells her that he’s the one who wired the bail money to him.
He says that he’s trying to do something noble for once (bullSHIT), and tries to get her out of there before he changes his mind. But Hildy calls him out on his manipulative bullshit, which he denies (BULLLLLLLSHIT). He tries again to push her away, and she resists it, saying the story needs to be finished. But still, he pushes her away, and bids her goodbye with a kiss.
AND THEN HILDY GETS A CALL FROM BRUCE
Jesus. He’s been arrested again, this time for passing the counterfeit money that he got from Hildy got from Joe got from Walter in the GODDAMN FIRST PLACE. And it’s at this point, after promising to take care of it, that Hildy breaks down. Because, GODDAMN APPARENTLY, she NEVER wants Walter to let her go without a fight, and is ACTUALLY REVEALED TO LEARN HOW MUCH OF A DICK HE’S BEEN.
And they decide to remarry. And he tells Hildy to carry her own suitcase. And this is NOT A HAPPY GODDAMN ENDING. JESUS CHRIST.
And yet, AND YET...this movie is fucking fantastic. I mean, FUCK WALTER, and Hildy’s gonna have a TERRIBLE time with him, but GODDAMN do I like this movie! More in the Review! See you there!

Books Read in 2018: The Why
Third year in a row* of answering the self-imposed question: why did you read this particular book?
(*Although 2017′s is presently flagged by the garbage bot and under appeal -- WHY DO U HATE MY BOOK COVER COLLAGES, MR. ALGORITHM)
I am beginning to deeply regret the extra work involved to split them by category, so next year is probably just gonna be a numbered chronological list after the Quilt of Many Covers, but for now they are still divided into adult fiction, YA, middle grade/children’s books, and nonfiction
FICTION
True Valor - Dee Henderson. 2002. Read because: I went hunting for a military romance in which to cast Dalton and Jaz [The Brave]. This one at least guaranteed me Dalton (and included rescuing a female soldier lost/hurt in combat, so).
These Healing Hills - Ann H. Gabhart. 2017. Had this one in my back pocket for a while as a quality-sounding stock romance (nurse/soldier) waiting for players. When my need for a Barbie/Julia [Under the Dome] story reached a new high, I deemed it a match.
Shane - Jack Schaefer. 1949. This is the book Fourmile is based on, so I thought I could get a two-for-one casting thrill out of it.
The Lake House - Kate Morton. 2015. A gorgeous historic mansion hidden within an abandoned estate. A mystery from the past to be solved in the present. What are "things I am here for always."
Crimson Peak (movie novelization) - Nancy Holder. 2015. I LOVED the movie, and the only thing I love more than amazing movies is when I can have them translated into and enriched by prose.
Chasing Sunsets - Karen Kingsbury. 2015. Brush of Wings - Karen Kingsbury. 2016. I was hunting, desperately, for Ben/Ryan-shaped books [Off the Map], and "Brush of Wings" checked all the boxes (young woman who needs a heart transplant volunteers in a third world country, love interest has to find a way to rush her home when the situation turns dire). I only read C.S. first because I didn't want to miss where the romance started.
Rancher Under Fire - Vickie Donoghue. 2014. I was looking for a different book when I casually stumbled upon this title, and listen. I am not gonna turn down a ready-made Barbie/Julia AU* with bonus "single father" angle. (*cowboy/journalist)
Heart Like Mine - Maggie McGinnis. 2016. "Ben/Ryan, Sexy Hookup AU Version please."
The Mountain Between Us - Charles Martin. 2010. The request list for the movie was too long, so I decided to see if it was based on a book. Upon reading the back cover and finding out one character was a surgeon, I immediately forgot the movie cast as my brain exploded with Shondaland options.
When Crickets Cry - Charles Martin. 2006. "Doctor whose wife died young of a lifelong heart condition" sounded like the best book-shaped Ben/Ryan approximation yet, with bonus "watching out for a little girl who is sick in the same way" cuteness as well.
The Woman in Cabin 10 - Ruth Ware. 2016. A woman at work recommended it to me, and I was like, "a well received general thriller? Sure!"
Listen to Me - Hannah Pittard. 2016. Put "road trip" into the library catalog --> picked 70% because "Gothic thriller" made me think of "The Strangers," and 30% because I was reliving the glory days of Derek And Addison and this marriage sounded similar.
The Lying Game - Ruth Ware. 2017. I enjoyed the other book of hers I read so my friend brought in the next one she had.
Hatter Fox - Marilyn Harris. 1973. Read in high school and forgotten until I reread the Goodreads summary, and "doctor drawn to help 17-year-old" set off my radar. Shippy or merely protective/caretaking, my radar reacts the same.
Vanished - Mary McGary Morris. 1988. The trailer for unreleased Martin Henderson film "Hellbent" whipped me into a frenzy so I did my best to find book-shaped approximations of it. (spoiler alert: this failed miserably, but I grudge-matched it out)
Thunder and Rain - Charles Martin. 2012. Former Texas Ranger who is a single dad. Rescuing & protecting a scared/abused woman and child. At his ranch with cows and horses. By an author who has proven his salt in the hurt/comfort and restrained-romance departments.
Before the Fall - Nick Hawley. 2016. Mostly I came for the dynamic between the young orphan and the passenger who saved him, but I also like witnessing the general aftermath of plane crash survivors.
The Perfect Nanny - Leila Slimani. 2018. My work friend loaned it to me with the statement, "This has such good reviews but I don't know if I 'got' it -- I am really curious to know what you think of it!"
The Girl Before - J.P. Delaney. 2017. She loaned me this one too, with a more glowing recommendation.
Everything You Want Me To Be - Mindy Mejia. 2017. Aaaand one last rec from my seasonal work friend before our projects took us in separate directions.
The Dog Year - Ann Wertz Garvin. 2014. Dog on the cover + synopsis was basically a list of tropes I love: a woman (a doctor to boot!) grieving loss of husband and unborn baby; dogs; a new love interest who is one of my favorite professions to pair with doctor (cop)...
Losing Gemma - Katy Gardner. 2002. "So basically this is the victim backstory to a Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders plot? Dude, sign me UP; I can so see this friendship!"
Uncharted - Tracey Garvis-Graves. 2013. The companion novella to a book I loved.
The English Boys - Julia Thomas. 2016. Mom checked it out of the library, "guy in piney unrequited love with his best friend's fiancee" intrigued me enough to open it, and by 3-5 pages in I was hooked.
The Broken Girls - Simone St. James. 2018. Abandoned boarding-school ruins, a murder mystery from the past being solved in the present day, possibly tied to a second murder from the past?? Yeah, give it.
Heart-Shaped Hack - Tracey Garvis-Graves. 2015. White-Hot Hack - Tracey Garvis-Graves. 2016. Proven quality romance writer's latest books feature a professional super-skilled hacker? Sounds right up my Scorpion-obsessed alley. First book was plenty good enough to launch me into Part II.
Shine Shine Shine - Lydia Netzer. 2012. In my continuing quest to find books in which to cast Walter/Paige, I searched the phrase "her genius husband" and this one's summary matched my desires well.
Learning to Stay - Erin Celello. 2013. Ever eager to expand my hurt/comfort scenario stockpile, I went looking for something where a husband suffers a TBI/brain damage that mostly affects their personality. The bonus dog content sold it.
The Fate of Mercy Alban - Wendy Webb. 2013. Came up on my Goodreads timeline. I read as far as "spine-tingling mystery about family secrets set in a big, old haunted house on Lake Superior" and immediately requested it from the library.
Rated PG - Virginia Euwer Wolff. 1981. I was rereading her Make Lemonade trilogy when I saw a quote in her author bio that said, "I did write an adult novel. Thank goodness it went out of print." Curious, I looked it up, and between its age and the fact that it sounded more like YA than a proper adult novel, I was immediately more intrigued by it than her boring-sounding middle grade books.
Someone Else's Love Story - Joshilyn Jackson. 2013. "Young single mom with genius son meeting a possibly-autistic scientist who protects them during a gas station holdup/hostage situation and later bonds with her son" was the exact literary approximation of a Scorpion AU I wanted in my brain. By the time I realized that was not the endgame ship, I had already flipped through it and fallen in love w/ William and his romantic memories of his wife instead.
Driftwood Tides - Gina Holmes. 2014. Cool title + I love the "young adult adoptee bonds with the spouse of their late birth mother" trope.
The Haunting - Alan Titchmarsh. 2011. Title caught my eye at the library near Halloween; I dug the "dual timelines" setup with a mystery from the past to be solved in the present, and hoped for ghosts.
The Lost Hours - Karen White. 2009. I searched "scrapbook" in the library catalog. A family member's formerly buried old scrapbook, an old house, and unearthing family history/secrets? GIVE IT TO ME.gif.
The Etruscan Smile - Velda Johnston. 1977. Slim (quick read), attractive cover painting, an exotic Italian countryside setting in a bygone era, and a young woman investigating the mystery of her sister's disappearance all appealed to me.
Stay Away, Joe - Dan Cushman. 1953. All I could tell from the book jacket was that it was somehow Western/ranch-themed, possibly full of wacky hijinx and had once been deemed appropriate for a high school library. I just wanted to know what the heck it was about!
-------------------
YOUNG ADULT
(I’m kind of guessing at the line of demarcation between teen and middle grade audiences for some of these, especially the older ones -- another reason that I should give up on categories in the future -- but let’s just go with it)
These Shallow Graves - Jennifer Donnelly. 2015. Seemed like a YA version of What the Dead Leave Behind (which itself I was using as a Crimson Peak AU), from an author whose work has always impressed me.
Snow Bound - Harry Fox Mazer. 1973. Always here for survival stories! Also, this is a good author.
The House - Christina Lauren. 2015. I LOVE evil/haunted mansion stories.
The Masked Truth - Kelley Armstrong. 2015. It looked like Criminal Minds in a YA novel.
Things I'm Seeing Without You - Peter Bognanni. 2017. Went googling for stories that sounded like contemporary variations on Miles & Charlie Matheson [Revolution]. "Teen shows up at estranged father's door" fit the bill.
Even When You Lie to Me - Jessica Alcott. 2015. I always turn out for student/teacher stories, given enough suggestion of it being mostly an emotional connection rather than an illicit hookup.
Too Shattered for Mending - Peter Brown Hoffmeister. 2017. I also dig stories where teenagers have to take care of/fend for themselves in the absence of a parent/guardian.
The Devil You Know - Trish Doller. 2015. I enjoyed a previous book of hers, and I always like road trips and teen thrillers.
The Raft - S.A. Bodeen. Terror at Bottle Creek underwhelmed, so I thought I'd try a YA/female protagonist option for a survival thriller, not least because the girl on the cover reminded me of Under the Dome's Melanie.
Ghost at Kimball Hill - Marie Blizard. 1956. Picked up randomly at an estate sale; the vintage cover and incredibly charming first 2 pages won my heart.
A New Penny - Biana Bradbury. 1971. The rare idea of a teen shotgun marriage in this era -- when it would still be expected, but also more likely to fall apart and end in a young divorce or separation -- fascinated me; I was curious to see how such an adult situation would play out.
Marie Antoinette, Serial Killer - Katie Alender. 2013. I mean...it is really all right there in the title and/or the awesful puns all over the cover. ("Let them eat cake...AND DIE!") Pure unadulterated crack, combining my two fave specialty genres of history and horror? Yes ma'am.
Me And My Mona Lisa Smile - Sheila Hayes. 1981. I was looking up this author of a Little Golden Book to see what else she had, found one that suggested a student/teacher romance, and bolted for it.
To Take a Dare - Crescent Dragonwagon/Paul Zindel. 1982. 50% due to the first author's cracktastic name and my full expectations of it being melodramatic, 50% because I was still on my "Hellbent" high and looking for similar teen runaway stories.
To All My Fans, With Love, From Sylvie - Ellen Conford. 1982. The last one from my attempt-at-a-Hellbent-esque-storyline set -- girl hitchhiking cross-country is picked up by a middle aged man who may or may not have pure intentions, by an established quality author.
Be Good Be Real Be Crazy - Chelsey Philpot. Bright cover called out to me; I was in the mood for a fun road trip novel for spring/early summer.
This is the Story of You - Beth Kephart. Kephart's name always gives me pause due to her fuzzy writing style, but I loved Nothing But Ghosts, so I could not resist the promise of surviving a super-storm disaster.
A Little in Love - Susan Fletcher. "Eponine's story from Les Mis" on a YA novel = immediately awesome; I LOVE HER??? Also it's just my fave musical, generally.
Adrift - Paul Griffin. 2015. I've been really digging survival stories this year, and while stories about survival at sea aren't typically my fave, they keep popping up in my path so I keep poppin' em like candy.
Life in Outer Space - Melissa Keil. 2013. After delighting my brain with concept sketches for a high school AU, I set out to find the equivalent of Scorpion's team dynamics/main relationship in a YA novel, and by god I found it.
Everything Must Go - Fanny Fran Davis. 2017. The brightly colored cover drew me in, and the format of being like a scrapbook of personal documents/paper ephemera lit up the scrap-collecting center of my brain.
Going Geek - Charlotte Huang. 2016.
originally I thought it might be like Life in Outer Space, but once I realized the title geeks were all girls I shrugged and went, "Eh, still a solid contemporary YA novel at a cool setting (boarding school)."
Like Mandarin - Kirsten Hubbard. 2011.
By the author of my beloved Wanderlove, I was drawn in by the title, intriguing cover photo, rural Wyoming setting and the concept of a high school freshman girl latching onto/idolizing a cool senior girl.
Sixteen: Short Stories By Outstanding Writers for Young Adults. ed. Donald R. Gallo. 1984. Tripped over it at the library, and immediately wanted to consume a set of 80s teen book content from a pack of authors I know and love.
A & L Do Summer - Jan Blazanin. 2011. In the summer, sometimes you just want to vicariously relive the feeling of being a largely-responsibility-free teen in a small-town location.
The Assassin Game - Kirsty McKay. 2015. Looked like the (Welsh!) boarding school version of Harper's Island. (spoiler alert: it is rather less stabby than that, but still fun)
We Are Still Tornadoes - Michael Kun/Susan Mullen. 2016. "College freshmen? Writing letters to each other? Sure, looks solid."
Nothing - Annie Barrows. 2017. It looked relatable: like the kind of book that would happen if I tried to turn my high school journals into a book. (spoiler alert: dumber)
The Memory Book - Laura Avery. 2016. Contemporary YA about a girl with a(n unusual) disease, but mostly, the title and promise of it being a collection of entries in different formats.
Kindess for Weakness - Shawn Goodman. 2013. LITERALLY AU RYAN ATWOOD.
Make Lemonade - Virginia Euwer Wolff. 1993. True Believer - Virginia Euwer Wolff. 2001. This Full House - Virginia Euwer Wolff. 2008. I reread the first two so I could give them proper reviews on Goodreads, and then realized I hadn't read the last one at all.
Blue Voyage - Diana Renn. 2015. A hefty teen mystery in a unique exotic location (Turkey) -- with an antiquities smuggling ring! - called out to me.
Girl Online - Zoe Sugg. 2014. I was really in the mood to read something on the younger end of YA, something cute and fun, when I saw this at the library.
Wilderness Peril - Thomas J. Dygard. 1985. Reread of a book I rated 4 stars in high school but couldn't remember, which happened to be lying next to me on a morning where I didn't wanna get out of bed yet.
Survive the Night - Danielle Vega. 2015. The cover had a GLITTERY SKULL. Give me that delightfully packaged horror story for the Halloween season!
The Hired Girl - Laura Amy Schlitz. 2015. I've been digging into my journals and old family photo albums lately, really fascinated by personal historical documents (also recently obsessed over The Scrapbook of Frankie Pratt), and when I saw a diary format book set in 1911 -- a housemaid's diary, no less; that must be interesting as far as recording grand house details -- it spoke to me.
Fans of the Impossible Life - Kate Scelsa. 2015. The colored-pencil-sketch cover gave me Rainbow Rowell vibes.
All The Truth That's In Me - Julie Berry. 2013. Someone who favorably reviewed The Hired Girl also recommended this one; the cover caught my eye, and it sounded like a thriller.
Girl In A Bad Place - Kaitlin Ward. 2017. I heart YA thrillers featuring girls.
Facing It - Julian F. Thompson. 1983. I was in desperate need of a book one night and my only option was to buy one off the library sale cart, so I snagged the one that looked like some entertaining 80s melodrama with a fun (summer camp) setting. (Spoiler alert: fun and entertaining it was not.)
A Good Idea - Cristina Moracho. 2017. "Rural literary noir," promised the cover blurb, and as I just mentioned: I heart YA thrillers.
Something Happened - Greg Logsted. 2008. Short/easy read + I was hoping for either a misinterpreted Genuinely Caring Teacher, or scenarios to use in an appropriate age difference context.
In Real Life - Jessica Love. 2016. My shipper radar pretty much looked at the summary and went "THE AU CHRISTIAN/GABBY SETUP OF MY DREAMS."
The Black Spaniel Mystery - Betty Cavanna. 1945.
Adorable cover (and dogs!) from an established quality author.
--------------
CHILDREN’S / MIDDLE GRADE
The Cloud Chamber - Joyce Maynard. 2005. The cover made me think of Under the Dome, and the MC immediately reminded me of Joe McAlister.
Terror at Bottle Creek - Watt Key. 2016. After rereading Fourmile, I got a hankering for more books I might be able to cast with the kids from Under the Dome, and figured more Watt Key + a thrilling survival adventure was the ticket for that.
Swampfire - Patricia Cecil Haas. 1973. One of approximately 100 unread vintage horse books I own at any given time; finally in mood because it was short and sweet.
Baby-sitting Is A Dangerous Job - Willo Davis Roberts. 1985. Reread a childhood favorite in order to give it a proper review on Goodreads.
In The Stone Circle - Elizabeth Cody Kimmel. 1998. Same as above.
Wild Spirits - Rosa Jordan. 2010. Clearly the "Kat & Tommy take Justin under their wing" Power Rangers AU of which I have always dreamed, in my very favorite version of it: the one where Kat surrounds herself with animals.
Claudia - Barbara Wallace. 1969. Picked up cheap at a book sale, standard cute vintage Scholastic about a girl and her school life. Comfort food.
Reasons to be Happy - Katrina Kittle. 2011. The cover and the 5 reasons excerpted in the summary were so cute that I wanted to know what more of the reasons were.
Dark Horse Barnaby - Marjorie Reynolds. 1967. Needed a quick read and I'll p. much read any vintage horse book.
Runaway - Dandi Daley Mackall. 2008. Start of a companion series to my beloved Winnie the Horse Gentler, featuring some favorite themes: foster care + animal rescue.
Wolf Wilder - Katherine Rundell. 2015. Pretty cover, girl protagonist, historical Russian setting, wolves. All good things!
Backwater - Joan Bauer. 1999. Sounded like a beautifully tranquil setting.
The Dingle Ridge Fox and Other Stories - Sam Savitt. 1978. Animal stories + author love = automatic win.
If Wishes Were Horses - Jean Slaughter Doty. 1984. Overdue reread of a childhood favorite because I needed some short books to finish the reading challenge.
-------------
NONFICTION
Junk: Digging Through America's Love Affair with Stuff - Alison Stewart. 2016. I mean, I am definitely an American who has a love affair with stuff.
Keeping Watch: 30 Sheep, 24 Rabbits, 2 Llamas, 1 Alpaca, and a Shepherdess with a Day Job - Kathryn Sletto. 2010.
As soon as I saw my favorite fluffy creature on the cover, I felt an immediate need to transport myself into this (dream) hobby farm setting.
(Side note: this is probably the lowest amount of nonfiction I have read in 1 year for a decade, but I was just so busy hunting down specific types of stories that I could not get distracted by random learning.)

Another FroodPad Update
(I’m sending an email instead of tagging people about this one because the majority of you guys have changed urls.)
For anyone who used the original FroodPad (PiratenPad) teamsite for fic writing, the host is taking down the site next month.
As before with the Mozilla alternative, I have backups of most of the text.
Here’s what I do not have:
Backups of locked pads
Chat logs
Authors / authorship colors
Time slider histories
If you want any of those, you’ll need to grab them yourself asap! If you’ve forgotten a password, the quickest way to grab my attention is to let me know via the tumblr messager (or my Discord, if you have it) and I can help you.
As for the actual text of the pads, I have these saved! I can send them to you whenever you like. Under the cut is a VERY lengthy list of the pad titles I have backups of. I can also do a text search if you need.

Same Old Story (Fringe)
So I couldn’t really decide between the shows which one to dive into fully so I guess we’re going to do another round and then we’ll see from there. Anyway, Episode Two, let’s go!
If this lady is meant to be a prostitute/escort, then this is some silly crap, here. Her putting her underwear back on to lie around in bed and talk her heart out with her John. Pretty sure that shit never happens.
Also, some mad science shit going on in the bathroom.
More lens flairs! Great!
So the… whatever that was growing inside her grew so fast it killed her before they could remove it?
Why is Mark Valley still in the opening credits if John Scott is dead? This isn’t another flashback-heavy show, is it? Because I’m a little tired of those.
Also, why does Nina Sharp get to second-guess the decisions of Agent Broyles? She is, as far as we’ve been told, a private citizen. He’s (one assumes) a fairly high-ranking agent of the Department of Homeland Security. What is she even doing here?
Y’all cut Walter some slack. When he went to the hospital most cars didn’t even have decent heaters and now there’s one just for your ass. I mean, granted, he’s a fringe scientist, so the idea of having a heating element in the seat cushion should be a little more passé to him than it first was to me, but still… let’s calm down.
So the baby was an actual human baby but for reasons yet undetermined it aged with extreme rapidity and died of old age within a few hours. So what are we talking about here? Artificially advancing people to adulthood? Growing soldiers in a vat? Some sort of cellular regeneration testing gone wrong? Did he get the escort pregnant on purpose? Because he didn’t seem prepared for that.
So this is connected to an old case.
Why is Charlie acting like he doesn’t know what Olivia is working on? He’s been to Walter’s lab, he’s even seen the cow. I mean, maybe he doesn’t know about The Pattern or whatever, but he knows she’s investigating weird cases.
I’m pretty sure most human women, even those in sex worker jobs, aren’t going to respond, “Oh, wow! Look at this place!” to some guy they just met taking them to an abandoned building instead of an apartment or a motel. Have these writers ever met a woman before?
Walter’s Station Wagon of Horrors is lovely.
So the pregnancy was inadvertent. He was really after her pituitary gland. To what end? Does his not function due to some science thing?
Soldiers grown in a vat, I guessed it from the outset. So are they harvesting typically functional pituitaries to replace the atypical ones they were born with? If so why this pattern? Why five at a time? Are there only five of them left? And they need a new gland every couple of years?
Or pituitary hormones used as a treatment.
Yeah, there’s absolutely no reason that Broyles needs to know that. Oh, because it’s a nightmare. Okay, then.
Again, with the somehow luring women to a warehouse…
I’m assuming with the way this guy is aging as he runs that he was an imperfect result of the experiment. Walter said they were meant to grow to physiological adulthood in three years. This guy (like his offspring at the beginning) is aging decades in just a matter of minutes. Even if the stress of the chase is exacerbating the situation, theoretically they were meant to be soldiers, more or less constantly under stress.
So Massive Dynamic is essentially a rogue nation? That’s... terrifying.
Peter’s medical condition? Something missing from his file? Interesting…
So I still don’t know about this show. Like the main characters are all well written and I feel about them the way I am meant to feel about them: I like Olivia, sympathize with Peter, have various reactions to Walters swinging moods, suspicious of Nina, etc. Beyond them, however, the writing is still kind of sloppy and haphazard. A lot of the behaviors of the one-episode characters don’t really make a lot of sense if you think about them for more than a minute. How did Pembrose come to think of his experiment as a son if he was constantly having to save him from dying of old age? How did he ever stop being an experiment if the murders/treatments were ongoing? If he (the vat soldier) thought Pembrose should have let him die, why didn’t he just take off and let himself die of old age years ago?

NORTHSTAR
Northstar formerly Jean-Paul Beaubier is an incredibly dashing hero, literally. His incredible speed and energy projectiles make him a great hero and will be getting into how amazing this underrated character really is in this blog post.
Powers and Abilities
First off what he is best at and known for is his speed. He possesses the ability to propel his body at superhuman speed, becoming a living projectile. Through an act of concentration, Northstar can channel a portion of the kinetic energy of the atomic motion in his body’s molecules in a single direction. This can accelerate his body in a velocity in direct proportions to the amount of kinetic energy he has tapped. It was once theoretically possible for him to reach 99% of the speed of light (186, 272 miles per second in a vacuum), although he never traveled at anywhere near that speed since if he did, he would wreak great damage upon himself and his environment. Northstar can also move a portion of his body at superhuman speed at a time.
Bio
He was only a baby when his parents died in a car crash. Though he was adopted, the family had died as well in an accident, leading Jean-Paul to live a lonely childhood. As a teen, he attempted to steal from a man named Raymonde Belmonde, who was himself involved in shady dealings. Belmonde helped the young Jean-Paul deal with his emerging super-human powers and perhaps with his homosexuality as well. Jean-Paul eventually left Belmonde and joined a circus in France as an acrobat. Always fiercely nationalistic, Jean-Paul returned to Quebec and joined a radical Separatist movement called "Le Front de Liberation du Quebec." However, he discovered their terrorist activities and left the group after stopping a bomb on a bus, with no official recognition that he was ever a member. Jean-Paul then decided to turn his passion for skiing into a career, and with his powers of speed quickly became a champion at the Olympic Games. After gaining notoriety as a sports star, he was contacted by James MacDonald Hudson, who had already met Beaubier's twin Jeanne-Marie. Jean-Paul was intrigued to meet the sister he never knew and joined Department H as Alpha Flight's "Northstar." He was present when Alpha Flight first fought the X-Men in Calgary in an attempt to reclaim Wolverine, who had once been Department H's "Weapon X." Unfortunately, Jean-Paul's abrasive personality made staying a member of Alpha Flight difficult. He was increasingly disdainful of Jeanne-Marie's relationship with Sasquatch (an attitude which may actually have been jealousy), and eventually left the team after a fight with his sister over an implied insult to her propriety. (Aurora then had Sasquatch manipulate her powers so that she was no longer identical to her brother.) While he was not officially a member at the time, Northstar later joined Alpha Flight when Loki's Fire fountain opened in Ungava Bay, Canada, because Aurora was suffering from a bout with her schizophrenia at the time. When Phoenix attacked Alpha Flight, blaming them for a psychic distress call she received from her father (Cyclops), Northstar chose Rogue as a target. Rogue kissed Northstar to drain his powers, and immediately became privy to all Jean-Paul's secrets, presumably including his sexual orientation. Interestingly enough, during the ensuing encounter with the Fire Fountain and the people transformed by it, Northstar agreed to touch Rogue's skin to see if Anodyne had cured her. Later, Northstar was forced to rejoin Alpha Flight at the Eye of the World when Talisman issued a mystic summons for help in their efforts to free Sasquatch's soul from the realm of the Great Beasts. Upset at being manipulated, he almost left immediately, but Snowbird used her powers to force him to stay. With Northstar's help, Alpha Flight managed to rescue Walter's soul, though Sasquatch's body was destroyed and his soul was now trapped in the box armor. It was not long before Sasquatch tried to regain a more human form, which led him to locate a humanoid body in another dimension. Unfortunately, it turned out to be the Hulk, and Sasquatch refused to displace his former colleague and friend, so his soul again was lost. When Alpha Flight responded to calls to put down the returned (and rampaging) Hulk, Northstar and Aurora tried to use their gestalt light powers, but instead, their touch shorted each other's powers out, due to the genetic changes Sasquatch had performed on Aurora. Northstar stayed with the reconstituted Alpha Flight for quite sometime after that. Eventually, his past as a terrorist was revealed to all (though Alpha had known for some time) when his former commander began killing off his subordinates and Jean-Paul was forced to save them. Fortunately, because he took part only in very limited terrorist activities, none of them murderous, Northstar was pardoned by the Canadian government.
Northstar remained an active member of a reorganized Alpha Flight for a while, surviving through the apparent abduction of his sister and then finding her again as a prisoner of Headlok. Following Headlok's defeat and Aurora's return to active duty, Jean-Paul discovered a baby abandoned in a dumpster, while in combat with the rest of the team. The child was HIV-positive and had already manifested AIDS symptoms, but Jean-Paul adopted her and named her Joanne. Sadly, Joanne died shortly thereafter, but her life and death catalyzed something inside Northstar, and he called a press conference at which he announced: "I am gay". Northstar remained a member of Alpha Flight while the team was in existence, but left angrily during a suspension of operations due to anti-mutant sentiments.
Northstar spent much of his time in this period searching for Aurora, who had disappeared following her breakup with Weapon Omega/Wildchild. He managed to stop her from killing Wildchild in a fit and brought her back to Canada for treatment, but she was abducted (and later released) by the Brotherhood of Mutants. Northstar eventually found her, half-insane, in the school in which she had grown up and taught. Though she eluded his grasp, Jean-Paul eventually got her treated with the help of his original Alpha Flight teammates, who discovered that Jeanne-Marie's worsened condition was part of a plot by Department H to destabilize certain mutants. The original team was reinstated, but Northstar stayed only a short time. With the "outing" of the X-Men as mutants and the vast expansion of the Xavier Institute, Charles Xavier himself approached Northstar with an offer to teach business and economics to his students. Jean-Paul refused at first but did grant a request by Xavier to support the X-Men field team operating nearby as they collected a new mutant. The mutant, a boy named Peter, turned out to possess an explosive field that decimated everything within a three- to four-foot radius, and Northstar insisted on flying him to a hospital so the Blackbird aircraft would not be damaged. Along the way, the two mutants struck up the conversation and came to accept each other (despite the ten-year-old's uneasiness towards homosexuals), but then Peter's powers flared twice more, and on the second time, Northstar was knocked out and they fell to the ground. Peter suffered severe internal injuries, and despite Xavier's assistance, the boy died. Northstar himself was heavily wounded, but as soon as he regained consciousness he accepted Xavier's offer and transferred to the Institute's faculty. During his convalescence, Jean-Paul found himself attracted by Bobby Drake, although these feelings did not go further.
As his old friends reformed Alpha Flight, Northstar returned to Canada and began living with his husband. He refused to rejoin Alpha Flight at first but reconsidered so he could keep an eye on what he believed to be troubling behavior from his sister.
Significance
Northstar is a great character to certainly means a lot to Marvel as he is to be their first openly gay character. It is important to them due to the fact that they try to stray away from doing so to characters. This, however, was definitely that a lot of people have been wanting and asked for. Now, I understand that it brings controversy and makes it feel like he needs more representation now because of the character’s sexuality but I think that it really doesn’t matter all that much. Granted, it creates a bigger fanbase, but I truly think his powers and backstory alone are incredible enough to show how great he is and underrated a character is which can definitely be shown more.

WORDS: 1174
“Hello, Walter!” I greeted the man with a happy smile upon opening the front door. “How are you?”
“Doing well enough!” His eyes were haggard and tired, I could help but notice. “I decided to try and start dating again- Baby Kit could do with seeing me happier, pun not intended.”
“Ah, well I wish you all the best fortune!” I stepped aside to allow Baby Kit to toddle into the house. “Would you like some coffee before you go off again?”
“If it wouldn’t trouble you too much.” He stepped into the house, going into the dining room and pouring some coffee into his empty coffee cup. He stirred in two spoons of sugar and added a strong swig of Half & Half to his drink, mixing everything with a coffee stirrer before taking a quick sip.
“My baby sister should be by any moment,” I stated casually as Baby Tommy wandered over to give Baby Kit a hug. “She’s dropping off her son for a few hours.”
“Ah, Baby Noah, right?” he smiled. “I thank you for you hospitality, but I must be off now!”
“Alright, bye Walter!” I laughed, taking Baby Kit’s Winter jacket from her and hanging it up in the coat closet.
“Bye bye daddy!” Baby Kit called out before beginning to wave over towards the side of the house. Little girl quickly corrected her as Walter pulled out of the driveway and headed down the driveway, yielding for Sammi’s Pumpkinmobile as the two cars did the cha cha dance trying to maneuver around each other.
“Alright now, sweet babies,” I hummed as I watched Sammi neatly parking her obnoxious orange vehicle, getting out and amusing me with the plunging neckline of her t-shirt. She opened the backseat of her Pumpkinmobile and helped Baby Noah out. As she was shutting the door, the happy little man raced up to the front door, which I opened without a second thought.
“Hey MC!” Sammi looked extremely displeased as I held the door open for her. “Well, I got bad news and even worse news. Which one do you want to hear first?”
“Can I pour you a cup of coffee?” I asked her, half watching as Baby Tommy and little girl introduced Baby Noah to Baby Kit.
“The paternity test done on Baby Noah concluded that one Governor Paul Thomas Grantsville is Baby Noah’s biological father,” she huffed. “And now that he’s been officially listed on the birth certificate as the father, he’s been demanding fifty-fifty custody. I’m trying to fight him, but he has better lawyers.”
“Ah,” I mostly stayed quiet as how I didn’t know quite what to say.
“He already called CPS on me more than a dozen times already,” she continued to complain as I poured her a cup of coffee, adding in milk and holding the sugar- just the way she liked it. “I’ve been telling them to come in when they get a police warrant. But MC-” Here, she looked at me. “I’m scared.”
“Well, you can probably hold those false calls against him, I advised as we watched Baby Noah pressing Baby Kit’s hands to his face. “And show them pictures of your place.”
“I’ve done all that,” she grumbled. “I just don’t want to lose my little man.”
“Sammi, have you ever thought about becoming a respectable woman?” I asked her, halfway knowing what her response would be.
“But I love sex!” she wailed. “Without sex, I’m nothing!”
“Samantha Anne Bradley, look at me.” She gulped audibly before doing as I had just asked her to do. “There’s more to life than being a slut. Now if I were you, I’d go to a doctor to find out why you are so fucking sex crazed, yeah?”
“Easy for you to say, MC!” She shot me a dirty look. “You have eleven inches of steel all to yourself!”
“Yeah, but I don’t want Peter to fuck me raw every moment of every day though!” I scolded her, turning to smile at Peter as he trooped inside with the girls, having been out in the backyard enjoying a rigorous snowball fight. “Hihi my love.”
“Hihi sweetheart.” the outer corners of his eyes crinkled delightfully as he swept my baby sister in for a friendly one armed hug. “Hihi Sammi, how are things going with you?”
“Fuk!” Everyone’s attention was drawn over to where Baby Noah was happily chewing on his hand.
“BABY NOAH!” My husband wore a horrified expression over his handsome face as he promptly had a mid-life crisis. “YOU DON’T SAY THAT WORD- THAT WORD IS A GROWN UP WORD!”
Sammi had been drinking her coffee but started cracking up at my soulmate’s freakout, spraying coffee out through her nose.
“Sammi!” I immediately began to fuss about her, pushing her over towards the dining room table, where I pulled out a chair for her as Peter picked up Baby Noah.
“Oh no, now we have another baby who’s cussing!” he bemoaned dramatically. “I am a bad daddy- my babies are already cussing!”
“My love?” I grouched as Sammi howled and Daisy wandered in, sniffing at the coffee on the floor before abandoning it to offer Sammi a much needed lick on the hand. “Shut up- tend to the babies for me, yeah?”
Little girl skidded into the kitchen, throwing a blanket from the downstairs closet onto the coffee on the floor, Baby Tommy joining her as the two babies quickly worked at mopping up the spilled drink.
“Thank you both, sweet babies!” I cooed as Baby Kit appeared in the doorway, her hand gripping at Mitten’s fur as the motherly cat led the blind child over to the Ratajczyk family patriarch. “Mommy love you both very much!”

Aileen Wuornos, “The Florida Highway Killer” Aileen Wuornos, born Aileen Carol Pittman, was born on February 29th, 1956 to Diane Pratt and Leo Dale Pittman in Rochester, Michigan. Before she was four years old, her mother abandoned her and older brother Keith to their grandparents, Lauri and Britta Wuornos. Her father killed himself in prison in 1969 after he was charged with child molestation. Lauri was physically and sexually abusive to Aileen, while his wife was an abusive alcoholic. To make situations worse Aileen only found out that her grandparents were not her biological parents at age 12. At age 14, she became pregnant and claimed that her older brother Keith was the father. She was sent to a home for unwanted mothers and gave birth to a baby boy on March 23rd, 1971, who was immediately sent for adoption. On returning to her grandparent’s home, Britta Wuornos died of liver failure after years of alcohol abuse. After her grandmother died, Lauri Wuornos sent her and her brother away to foster care. Aileen ran away and began a life of prostitution, hitchhiking, and crime. Within the next few years, Keith would die from throat cancer at age 21, Lauri would commit suicide and Aileen would would head to Florida. At age 20, she would marry a wealthy yachtsman of the name Lewis Fell. However, she was too destructive and unstable to realize what she had. She was arrested again in 1970 for disorderly conduct and assault. Lewis Fell was disgusted and annulled the the marriage after a few month. Over the next ten years, she would continue on her path of destruction, prostituting, hitchhiking and committing various crimes. In 1986, Aileen met a young Tyria Moore in Daytona, Florida at a gay bar. Their immediate, volatile and intense relationship lasted for four years until Aileen was eventually arrested. November 30th, 1989 Aileen was picked up by 51 year old Richard Mallory. He was shot three times with .22 pistol and dumped in a wood next to interstate 95 in Volusia County, Florida. In her defence, she claimed that he tried to rape her and that she was only protecting herself. Mallory was later found to have a criminal record for rape and was often caught up in alcohol and sex binges. From late 1989 to late fall in 1990, Aileen killed 5 other men. Police tracked down Wuornos and Moore from the finger and hand prints left in the abandoned vehicle of Peter Siems. Wuornos was arrested in a bar in Port Orange, Florida and Moore was found at her sister’s home in Pittston, Pennsylvania. To avoid prosecution, Tyria Moore agreed to build a case against Aileen Wuornos. January of 1991, Moore elicited a phone confession from Wuornos and in it, she confessed to killing all six men. In court, she asserted that she had been raped by mallory and that everything that she had committed, was done in self defense. She had said the same about the other five men she killed, but later retracted these statements. On January 27th, 1992, Aileen Wuornos was found guilty of First Degree Murder and was charged with a death penalty for each murder she committed (6 In total). She was outraged and noted for shouting, “I’m innocent! I was raped! I hope you get raped! Scumbags of America!”. In 2002, she was sentenced to lethal injection. However, the debate of Wuornos’ sanity was raging on after comments made by Wuornos left people to believe that she was severely disconnected from reality. Expert Witnesses claimed that she was mentally ill, suffered from borderline personality disorder and was even referred to as a “damaged, primitive child”. In the same year of 2002, florida governor Jeb Bush lifted the temporary stay of execution after three psychiatrists deemed Aileen Wuornos as mentally competent to understand the death penalty and the reasons for its implementation. On the morning of October 9th, 2002 she was executed by lethal injection and her ashes were buried in her town of birth. Her last words were, “I'd just like to say I'm sailing with the rock, and I'll be back like Independence Day with Jesus June 6. Like the movie, big mother ship and all. I’ll be back, I’ll be back.” She declined a last meal and opted for black coffee. The Victims of Aileen Wuornos consisted of: Richard Mallory - 51 .David Spears.- 43 Charles 'Chuck' Carskaddon.- 40 Peter Siems.- 65 Eugene 'Troy' Burress.- 50 Charles 'Dick' Humphreys.- 56 Walter Gino Antonio.- 62 Peter Siems body was never recovered. She was never tried for Peter Siems, even though, all evidence led back to her. Many documents, characters, movies and even an opera were written after her. The most famous movie was “Monster” starring Charlize Theron as Aileen.

How To Leave Define Early Expressionism Without Being Noticed | define early expressionism
Peter Harris Studio
What Is Abstract Expressionism? – Artsy – define early expressionism | define early expressionism
Kapwani Kiwanga’s “Safe Passage” is at MIT.
CAMBRIDGE — Kapwani Kiwanga is Canadian-born and Paris-based, admitting her new exhibition at the MIT List Visual Arts Center tells Boston article about itself. It is, I’m afraid, not flattering. She calls it “Safe Passage,” and the adumbrated alarm — safe from what? — freights the arctic amplitude with an cruel tension.
More so, maybe, because no blackmail seems immediate. It’s an ascetic scene, about clinical, its altar crisply made, their adjustment advised out in accurate proportion: Four blocky forms angle upright, anniversary adapted with a ablaze source, afloat on a even of able concrete; a set of angular, cellophane screens accord the alveolate amplitude a brittle faculty of order; a louvered awning of mirrors, astringent and ominous, stands in back.
To alarm the affectation basal feels like calling the sky blue; as a apprentice of that accurate academy of aesthetics, Kiwanga would absolutely get an A . Or maybe not. “Safe Passage” is an acerb abolishment of the Minimalist credo, in which anatomy was its own end, the simpler the better. In the aboriginal 1960s, artists like Carl Andre and Dan Flavin alleged their assignment algid — as admitting annihilation could anytime be — and Kiwanga calls their bluff.
Art Movement | agneslowpeishan's Blog – define early expressionism | define early expressionism
Those aglow figures, corrective black, are the atomic algid things you can imagine. With them, Kiwanga invokes Boston’s late-18th-century “lantern law,” which appropriate non-whites — “Negroes, Indian and Molatto Slaves,” wrote Boston boondocks agent William Cooper, in 1769 — to backpack lit candles afterwards aphotic if not traveling with a white consort. Anniversary of the four is a anatomy affective through space, safe so continued as their lights abide to glow. The answer here, of Flavin’s ablaze sculptures — Minimalist totems if anytime there were one — seems clear, and so the assize of abolitionist art turns aback on itself.

Any acceptable apprentice of contempo art history would apperceive that Minimalism, and the beachcomber of Conceptualism it begat, advised itself, with a assertive complacent self-satisfaction, to be subversive. For the affable and advantaged few, this was rebellion: the wry presentation of accomplished forms as a counterpoint to Abstract Expressionism’s band of aesthetic ability and the boundless prices it had appear to command.

But into this by-the-book anecdotal Kiwanga levers some shame-inducing context. At about the actual moment that Minimalist artists were cutting their own abolitionist priorities in aboriginal 1960s New York, baptize cannons were allowance peaceful protests in the Deep South as the civilian rights movement dug in. That the best transformative amusing moment of the 20th aeon had around no appulse on the ascendant art movement of the day feels telling, doesn’t it? In literature, in music, and in film, the era’s anarchic and generally agitated amusing upheavals fueled some of the best powerful, enduring cultural expressions of the 2oth century, allowance to ascertain a bearing at a crossroads, and in crisis.
“Safe Passage” captures both an animal moment from the abroad past, and what now feels like a far added contempo abandonment point, area the abreast art apple alone from the blowzy fractures of a apple in anarchy and hived off to accept conversations with itself. The belted breastwork that Conceptualism congenital for abreast art acquainted near-impenetrable for decades, admitting in contempo years the cracks accept started to not alone show, but deepen.
Kiwanga chips away, and does her part. That big louvered anatomy — asperous and ambiguous — evokes bargain window coverings, claiming rooms, and architectural practicalities all at once. It’s that aftermost one that gets you: In the close south, louvered shutters let balmy breezes in, while in the north, they accumulate freezing gales out. Making the journey, hot to cold, promised abandon to those accommodating to abide it; in the soft, reflected afterglow of Kiwanga’s abnormality forms, it instead looks like added of the same.
Ultimately, though, “Safe Passage” is about a moment, not so continued ago, aback aerial art autonomous out of a alienated civic argument. To put a accomplished point on it, Kiwanga fills a aback arcade actuality with an arrangement of unassuming, typewritten pages army in brittle copse frames. She makes a sly affiliation to addition Conceptual art favorite: the typewritten page, accent as a riddle that turns in on itself (the best acclaimed ability be Joseph Kosuth, who in the mid-’60s presented typed concordance entries abutting to both the article it authentic and a photograph of it).
Fauvism and Expressionism Definition, Paintings, Sculptures Artists … – define early expressionism | define early expressionism
Kiwanga’s words instead alive actual abundant in the carnal perils of that actual aforementioned moment: Taken from the “Traveler’s Green Book” — the actual aforementioned as in the Oscar-nominated cine — which listed gas stations, restaurants, and motels accounted to be safe for atramentous motorists traversing the nation, accompaniment by state, Kiwanga’s attenuate dig feels telling, indeed.
The book was adapted annually, and Kiwanga’s best of 1961 is by no agency arbitrary. In bounce of that year, the aboriginal Abandon Rides — blacks and whites traveling calm by bus into the Deep South to analysis the Supreme Court cardinal that allowable bus and alternation stations be desegregated — took place. As they descended into Alabama and Mississippi, commotion ensued. Many were beaten, some jailed; a bus was set on blaze and austere to a broiled husk. In New York, that actual aforementioned year, Walter de Maria congenital a plywood box with a aperture to bead a baby lath brawl central (it was acquired by the Guggenheim), and Judd army a tin baking pan to a corrective copse lath (it was acquired by MoMA). Aforementioned country, two worlds. Kiwanga has redrawn the map so their paths assuredly cross.

10 Most Destructive Person's to American in 8 Decades
The 10 Most Destructive Americans of My 8 Decades
By Frank Hawkins
America has undergone enormous change during the nearly eight decades
of my life. Today, America is a bitterly divided, poorly educated and morally fragile society with so-called mainstream politicians pushing cynical identity politics, socialism and open borders. The president of the United States is threatened with impeachment because the other side doesn’t like him. The once reasonably unbiased American media has evolved into a hysterical left wing mob. How could the stable and reasonably cohesive America of the 1950s have reached this point in just one lifetime? Who are the main culprits? Here’s my list of the 10 most destructive Americans of the last 80 years.
10) Mark Felt – Deputy director of the FBI, aka “Deep Throat” during the Watergate scandal. This was the first public instance of a senior FBI officially directly interfering in America’s political affairs. Forerunner of James Comey, Peter Strzok, Lisa Page and Andrew McCabe.
9) Bill Ayers– Represents the deep and ongoing leftist ideological damage to our education system. An unrepentant American terrorist who evaded punishment, he devoted his career to radicalizing American education and pushing leftist causes. Ghost wrote Obama’s book, “Dreams of My Father.”
8) Teddy Kennedy – Most folks remember Teddy as the guy who left Mary Joe Kopechne to die in his car at Chappaquiddick. The real damage came after he avoided punishment for her death and became a major Democrat force in the US Senate, pushing through transformative liberal policies in health care and education. The real damage was the 1965 Hart-Cellar immigration bill he pushed hard for that changed the quota system to increase the flow of third world people without skills into the US and essentially ended large-scale immigration from Europe.
7) Walter Cronkite – Cronkite was a much beloved network anchor who began the politicalization of America’s news media with his infamous broadcast from Vietnam that described the Tet Offensive as a major victory for the Communists and significantly turned the gullible American public against the Vietnam War. In fact, the Tet offensive was a military disaster for the NVA and Viet Cong, later admitted by North Vietnamese military leaders. Decades later Cronkite admitted he got the story wrong. But it was too late. The damage was done.
6) Bill and Hillary Clinton—It’s difficult to separate Team Clinton. Bill’s presidency was largely benign as he was a relative fiscal conservative who rode the remaining benefits of the Reagan era. But his sexual exploits badly stained the Oval Office and negatively affected America’s perception of the presidency. In exchange for financial support, he facilitated the transfer of sensitive military technology to the Chinese. Hillary, a Saul Alinsky acolyte, is one of the most vicious politicians of my lifetime, covering up Bill’s sexual assaults by harassing and insulting the exploited women and peddling influence around the globe in exchange for funds for the corrupt Clinton Foundation. She signed off on the sale of 20% of the US uranium reserve to the Russians after Bill received a $500,000 speaking fee in Moscow and the foundation (which supported the Clinton’s regal lifestyle) received hundreds of millions of dollars from those who benefited from the deal. Between them, they killed any honor that might have existed in the dark halls of DC.
5) Valerie Jarrett - The Rasputin of the Obama administration. A Red Diaper baby, her father, maternal grandfather and father-in-law (Vernon Jarrett who was a close friend and ally of Obama mentor Frank Marshall Davis) were hardcore Communists under investigation by the U.S. government. She has been in Obama’s ear for his entire political career pushing a strong anti-American, Islamist, anti-Israeli, socialist/communist, cling-to-power agenda.
4) Jimmy Carter - Carter ignited modern day radical Islam by abandoning the Shah and paving the way for Ayatollah Khomeini to take power in Tehran. Iran subsequently became the main state sponsor and promoter of international Islamic terrorism. When Islamists took over our embassy in Tehran, Carter was too weak to effectively respond thus strengthening the rule of the radical Islamic mullahs.
3) Lyndon Johnson – Johnson turned the Vietnam conflict into a major war for America. It could have ended early if he had listened to the generals instead of automaker Robert McNamara. The ultimate result was: 1) 58,000 American military deaths and collaterally tens of thousands of American lives damaged; and 2) a war that badly divided America and created left wing groups that evaded the draft and eventually gained control of our education system. Even worse, his so-called War on Poverty led to the destruction of American black families with a significant escalation of welfare and policies designed to keep poor families dependent on the government (and voting Democrat) for their well-being. He deliberately created a racial holocaust that is still burning today. A strong case could be made for putting him at the top of this list.
2) Barack Hussein Obama - Obama set up America for a final defeat and stealth conversion from a free market society to socialism/communism. As we get deeper into the Trump presidency, we learn more each day about how Obama politicized and compromised key government agencies, most prominently the FBI, the CIA and the IRS, thus thoroughly shaking the public’s confidence in the federal government to be fair and unbiased in its activities. He significantly set back race and other relations between Americans by stoking black grievances and pushing radical identity politics. Obama’s open support for the Iranian mullahs and his apologetic “lead from behind” foreign policy seriously weakened America abroad. His blatant attempt to interfere in Israel’s election trying to unseat Netanyahu is one of the most shameful things ever done by an American president.
1) John Kerry – Some readers will likely say Kerry does not deserve to be number one on this list. I have him here because I regard him as the most despicable American who ever lived. After his three faked Purple Hearts during his cowardly service in Vietnam, he was able to leave the US Navy early. As a reserve naval officer and in clear violation of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, he traveled to Paris and met privately with the NVA and the Viet Cong. He returned to the United States parroting the Soviet party line about the war and testified before Congress comparing American soldiers to the hordes of Genghis Khan. It was a clear case of treason, giving aid and comfort to the enemy in a time of war. We got a second bite of the bitter Kerry apple when as Obama’s secretary of state, he fell into bed with the Iranian (“Death to America”) mullahs giving them the ultimate green light to develop nuclear weapons along with billions of dollars that further supported their terrorist activities. Only the heroic Swift Vets saved us from a Manchurian Candidate Kerry presidency. Ultimately we got Obama.
Dishonorable Mentions! (Just missed the list)
John Brennan –Obama’s CIA director who once voted for Communist Gus Hall for president. A key member of the Deep State who severely politicized the CIA. Called President Trump treasonous for meeting with the president of Russia.
Jane Fonda – movie actress who made the infamous trip to Vietnam during the war in support of the Communists. She represents hard left Hollywood that has done so much damage to our culture.
Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin – Both revered entertainers helped usher in the prevailing drug culture. Joplin personally suffered the consequences. Karma’s a bitch.
Robert Johnson /BET – Helped popularize ho’s, bitches and pimps while making millions on great hits such as “Jigga my Nigga”, “Big Pimpin’”, “Niggas in Paris” and “Strictly 4 My N.I.G.G.A.Z.” Many scholars within the African American community maintain that BET perpetuates and justifies racism by adopting the stereotypes held about African Americans, affecting the psyche of young viewers through the bombardment of negative images of African Americans. Who can disagree?
Arthur Ochs Sulzberger, Jr./The New York Times – Once the gold standard of American journalism, the paper always had a liberal tilt and occasionally made bad mistakes. As the years have gone along, the paper has slid further and further left and today is virtually the primary propaganda arm of the increasingly radical Democrat Party. Still retains influence in Washington and New York.
George Soros – Jewish former Nazi collaborator in his native Hungary who as a self-made billionaire has poured hundreds of millions of dollars into left wing groups and causes. The damage he has caused is difficult to measure, but it’s certainly large. He has funded much of the effort to kill the Trump presidency.
Frank Marshall Davis - Anti-white, black Bolshevik, card-carrying Soviet agent. Probable birth father and admitted primary mentor of young Barak Hussein Obama.
Frank Hawkins is a former US Army intelligence officer, Associated Press foreign correspondent, international businessman, senior newspaper company executive, founder and owner of several marketing companies and published novelist. He is currently retired in North Carolina. [email protected]
Editor's note: the original version of this piece misspelled the names of Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin, and also implied that Hendrix was a drug addict, which the coroner's autopsy after his death clearly stated was not the case. AT regrets these errors.

“Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” (2017)
Drama
Written & Directed by: Martin McDonagh
Featuring: Frances McDormand, Woody Harrelson, Sam Rockwell, John Hawkes and Peter Dinklage
Willoughby: “I’d do anything to catch the guy who did it, Mrs. Hayes, but when the DNA don’t match no one who’s ever been arrested, and when the DNA don’t match any other crime nationwide, and there wasn’t a single eyewitness from the time she left your house to the time we found her, well… right now there ain’t too much more we could do.”
Mildred Hayes: “You could pull blood from every man and boy in this town over the age of 8.”
Willoughby: “There’s civil rights laws prevents that, Mrs. Hayes, and what if he was just passing through town?”
Mildred Hayes: “Pull blood from every man in the country.”
Willoughby: “And what if he was just passing through the country?”
Mildred Hayes: “If it was me, I’d start up a database, every male baby was born, stick ’em on it, and as soon as he done something wrong, cross reference it, make 100% certain it was a correct match, then kill him.”
Willoughby: “Yeah well, there’s definitely civil rights laws that prevents that.”
If you do not know who Martin McDonagh is then you are missing out on a rare talent, he made his name as an Irish playwright, then pivoted to become a film writer/director that concentrated his work on unique as well as individual characters that follow their own arcs, not necessarily following the classic Hollywood plots or emotional beats audiences may be used to. With his first feature, the multi Oscar nominated “In Bruges” (2012) McDonagh gave a glimpse into what kind of film he wants to make, to be fair he has stuck to this through to this new film “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” (2017). This is an original story that has deep emotions running through it as well as its characters, they are real and many of these people have to face demons, they either beat them or succumb to them. The relative merits of each decision is left up to the audience which may or may not satisfy them.
There is no doubt that talented (and well known) actors grab the chance to work with McDonagh as well as espousing his dialogue. In this new film alone there are huge names such as Frances McDormand, Woody Harrelson, Sam Rockwell, John Hawkes and Peter Dinklage who could all be leads in their own projects, but come here to play very different characters than what they have been used to, except maybe Rockwell. As opposed to his other two efforts this new film deals with some weighty issues, as well as having a genuinely unlikeable protagonist at its heart in the character played by lead Frances McDormand.
The film is built around Mildred Hayes (Frances McDormand) who is a divorced mother still grieving the violent rape and murder of her teenaged daughter Angela, seven months prior. Angry over the lack of progress in the investigation, she rents three abandoned billboards near her home, which in sequence read: “Raped while dying”, “And still no arrests?”, and “How come, Chief Willoughby?”
The townspeople are upset over the billboards’ content, including Sheriff Bill Willoughby (Woody Harrelson) and officer Jason Dixon (Sam Rockwell). The open secret that Willoughby suffers from terminal pancreatic cancer adds to their disapproval. Mildred and her depressed son Robbie (Lucas Hedges) are harassed and threatened, but she stays firm, to Robbie’s chagrin.
There are some very real and definite highlights in this film that almost transcend its possible shortcomings. The first factor are the performances by Sam Rockwell, Frances McDormand and Woody Harrelson who all are incredible, as you would expect. The only character that really has any kind of arc that is recognizable is Dixon played by Rockwell who once again proves that he is one of the great character actors of his generation, at times he reminds me of Walter Houston in this mannerisms as well as the ability to fit within almost any film he is cast, as well as his innate ability to steal every scene he appears in. Rockwell gets to play drama, comedy, as well as action and of course show off his singing and dance moves, which now seems like a prerequisite once you cast him. It is a shame that he will not receive awards recognition as there are two other people that will overshadow his own efforts.
The two from this movie that will be in the awards hunt are lead actress Frances McDormand as well as writer/director Martin McDonagh who both are on top form in what they wanted to accomplish, but therein lies the problems with this film, as well as its subject matter which does not feel new or ground breaking – which is unlike what either of them probable wanted. The film revolves around the rape and murder of a girl as well as the repercussions that occur, in particular to her mother and brother. The issues I had with this movie was that there was just one way for her to deal with this devastation, that was to be a horrible person to everyone, even her own surviving child – she blames everyone else but takes no responsibility for her part, even at the end she transfers blame to a third party. The story is never resolved, in fact nothing is resolved, which means all the characters are stuck, while this is a reflection of real life it is not a completely accurate one, as in real life some people will have a resolution of sorts – the closest thing to resolution is the Woody Harrelson character, but that resolution is definitely not a happy one, just a deeply depressing one.
The central premise of the film I did enjoy, that is the attempted shaming of a Sheriff into a perceived action that will bring closure to Mildred, thereby pushing her life forward – she figures if she can have someone tangible to blame she will be alright – of course she is wrong as she was a broken person before the incident, she just did not know it, unlike the rest of her family who gave up on her years ago. The same can be said for other characters within the film with the exception of Dixon who finds some sort of recovery at the hands of someone who actually enjoyed his warped perspective but offers advice on how he can be a better person. In her selfish way though Mildred will ruin that for Dixon as she has an effect on him that will push him away from any salvation.
This is a very good film, made all the better by the dialogue as well as the actors delivering those lines, the threads that run through the plot are interesting but it never really rises above a diversion, that although on the surface seems to be heading somewhere just runs out of story with little regard for the ultimate fate of the family involved, which seems to be a shame as they all deserved much better from McDonagh. I have seen enough films with resolutions that are left up to the audience or are present to make a point, but here my feeling was that it was a little lazy on McDonagh’s part, something that may have worked in an editing suite for me does not work on the big screen. With all that said it is definitely worth seeing, and has to be one of the films of the year.
