Litsy’s Jellicle Family Headcanons
A few disclaimers before we get into this:
These are based on my experience and opinions after seeing the tour in May 2021. I’ll include a cast list at the bottom if you’re interested. Most of these were approximately formed at the time (I recently reread my thoughts from immediately after seeing the show), but are being finalized and articulated over a year later, so some of it is a bit more recent.
Obviously I went into seeing the tour already with strong opinions and ideas from the 1998 film, so as long as those weren’t contradicted by the tour, or the tour inspired new ideas, I’ve often defaulted to my original ideas. So this is mostly to compare the two productions to each other in terms of my thoughts on the relationships between the characters.
You are not immune to backstage shenanigans.
I’m picking and choosing which “chorus cats” for featured performers are included in the canon.
I didn’t include romantic relationships unless they resulted in a child.
I’m gonna go through the 1998 headcanons pretty quickly because I’ve shared these before.
Feel free to ask questions if you have any, I’d love to share more thoughts and discuss!
1998 film family tree headcanons:
Old Deuteronomy and Grizabella are the parents of Macavity, Munkustrap, & Rum Tum Tugger. They are former mates; she left the tribe when their sons were still young. They still resent her for it by the time of the canon Jellicle Ball.
Macavity and Demeter are the parents of Plato. Mac and Dem were never mated.
Munkustrap and Demeter are the parents of Jemima. Munk and Dem are mates. Munk is also a father figure to Plato.
Coricopat & Tantomile are twins. They have no other family in the tribe.
Exotica Wallflower is Cassandra’s mother. She is also mates with George, but George is not Cassandra’s father.
Gus is Asparagus’s father.
Asparagus and Jellylorum are the parents of Tumblebrutus, Etcetera, & Pouncival, who are littermates. Asparagus and Jelly are mates.
Jennyanydots is the mother of Bombalurina.
Skimbleshanks’s deceased sister was the mother of Mungojerrie & Rumpleteazer, who are littermates. He took them in when their mother died, as their father is unknown.
Skimble and Jenny are the adoptive parents of Mistoffelees and biological parents of Electra. Skimble and Jenny are mates.
Jellicles with no blood/familial relationships in the tribe: Alonzo, Bustopher Jones, Victoria.
2021 tourverse/revivalverse family tree headcanons:
Old Deuteronomy is the father of Macavity, Rum Tum Tugger, and Munkustrap. They are half-siblings.
Macavity and Demeter are the parents of Plato. Mac and Dem were never mated.
Munkustrap and Demeter are the parents of Jemima. Munk and Dem are in a relationship but not mated.
Bombalurina is Demeter’s mother.
Coricopat & Tantomile are twins. They have no other family in the tribe.
Gus is Peter’s father.
Peter and Jellylorum are the parents of Tumblebrutus. Peter and Jelly are mates.
Skimbleshanks adopted Mungojerrie & Rumpleteazer, who are not littermates and whose biological parents are unknown.
Skimbleshanks & Jennyanydots are in an open, unmated relationship, and are the adoptive parents of Pouncival.
Jellicles with no blood/familial relationships in the tribe: Alonzo, Bustopher Jones, Cassandra, Grizabella, Mistoffelees, Victoria.

Preben Lerdorff Rye in Ordet (Carl Theodor Dreyer, 1955)
Cast: Henrik Malberg, Emil Hass Christensen, Birgitte Federspiel, Preben Lerdorff Rye, Cay Kristiansen, Ejner Federspiel, Gerda Nielsen, Sylvia Eckhausen, Ove Rud, Henry Skjaer. Screenplay: Carl Theodor Dreyer, based on a play by Kaj Munk Cinematography: Henning Bendtsen. Production design: Erik Aaes. Film editing: Edit Schlüssel. Music: Poul Schierbeck.
As a non-believer, I find the story told by Ordet objectively preposterous, but it raises all the right questions about the nature of religious belief. Ordet, the kind of film you find yourself thinking about long after it's over, is about the varieties of religious faith, from the lack of it, embodied by Mikkel Borgen (Emil Hass Christensen), to the mad belief of Mikkel's brother Johannes (Preben Lerdorff Rye) that he is in fact Jesus Christ. Although Mikkel is a non-believer, his pregnant wife, Inger (Birgitte Federspiel), maintains a simple belief in the goodness of God and humankind. The head of the Borgen family, Morten (Henrik Malberg), regularly attends church, but it's a relatively liberal modern congregation, headed by a pastor (Ove Rud) who denies the possibility of miracles in a world in which God has established physical laws, although he doesn't have a ready answer when he's asked about the miracles in the Bible. When Morten's youngest son, Anders (Cay Kristiansen), falls in love with a young woman (Gerda Nielsen), her father, Peter (Ejner Federspiel), who belongs to a very conservative sect, forbids her to marry Anders. Then everyone's faith or lack of it is put to test when Inger goes into labor. The doctor (Henry Skjaer) thinks he has saved her life by aborting the fetus, but Inger dies. As she is lying in her coffin, Peter arrives to tell Morten that her death has made him realize his lack of charity and that Anders can marry his daughter. Then Inger is restored to life with the help of Johannes and the simple faith of her young daughter. Embracing Inger, Mikkel now proclaims that he is a believer. The conundrum of faith and evidence runs through the film. For example, if the only thing that can restore one's faith is a miracle, can we really call that faith? What makes Ordet work -- in fact, what makes it a great film -- is that it poses such questions without attempting answers. It subverts all our expectations about what a serious-minded film about religion -- not the phony piety of Hollywood biblical epics -- should be. Dreyer and cinematographer Henning Bendtsen keep everything deceptively simple: Although the film takes place in only a few sparely decorated settings, the reliance on very long single takes and a slowly traveling camera has a documentary-like effect that engages a kind of conviction on the part of the audience that makes the shock of Inger's resurrection more unsettling. We don't usually expect to find our expectations about the way things are -- or the way movies should treat them -- so rudely and so provocatively exploded.

Beyond the Gold Rush: Barrick Gold's Ethical Predicament
by: Alejandro, Amank, Aubrey, Edwin, Shardul, Shruti
Company Overview Known for its diversified collection of gold and copper assets, Barrick Gold operates in 13 countries and owns 16 active sites. It was founded by Peter Munk who made it a global mining giant. Its production history is quite impressive while its market value is close to CAD$40 billion thus making it one of the kings of the game. Notwithstanding these achievements; however, Barrick Gold has encountered great moral, human rights and legal problems which has led to its bad name.
Ethical, Human Rights, and Legal Challenges

The corporation’s Porgera Joint Venture mine has faced challenges accusing it of employing too much violence towards surrounding populations and causing significant harm to nature. Furthermore, Barrick Gold has also been charged with polluting water bodies and invading animal territories. Such claims have raised doubts regarding its true commitment towards sustainable mining operations hence resulting into a host of lawsuits in addition to public investigations.
PESTEL Analysis
To gain a deeper understanding of the external factors influencing Barrick Gold's operations, a PESTEL analysis is essential:
Political: In nations where Barrick Gold operates, political instability has the potential to introduce unpredictability and impede the company’s operations. For instance, the company’s past encounter with challenges attributed to government regulations and taxation in Tanzania indicates that political landscapes should be navigated with care. Economic: Barrick Gold’s profitability can significantly be affected by economic factors such as exchange rate fluctuations and prices for commodities. Therefore, it is important for the company to mitigate the effects of economic risks in order to adapt well to changing market scenarios that will enable it survive at long-term. Social: Social issues are critical in Barrick Gold´s operations like community relations or indigenous rights. The firm must balance between its economic goals and the fulfillment of its social obligations with regard to respect as well as collaboration when dealing with local communities. Technological: Enhancements in technology can help an organization increase its effectiveness and productivity in the mining sector. Barrick Gold has invested more funds into technology to boost its profitability while minimizing adverse ecological effects. Nonetheless, the firm must be aware of such issues as job losses due to automation or other adverse effects on neighboring communities that may arise from new technologies. Environmental: The mining sector faces numerous challenges due to serious environmental problems including climate change, water shortage and extinction of species. To ensure that it survives for long; Barrick Gold should adopt sustainable methods so as reduce its impact on environment. Legal: The operations of Barrick Gold can be fundamentally affected by legal regulations on mining, environmental protection and human rights. For this reason, it needs to observe the law in order to avoid any legal proceedings and build a good image.
Conclusion Barrick Gold Corporation is in a difficult position trying to balance between making money and being responsible. They earned a good sum of money anyhow they also face different problems such as human rights abuses, ethical and lawful problems arisen from their operations. Another strategy which can help Barrick Gold in minimizing reputational risks and boosting trust among its partners is enhancing responsible corporate conduct through more engagement of stakeholders and sustainable development initiatives.

8 Scientific Studies That Prove Whiskey is Good for You
Mark Twain, the man praised as the dad of American writing, is associated with numerous things, yet maybe his most broadly utilized discourse is on a subject we hold precious — bourbon liquor. Twain broadly expressed the immortal words, "A lot of anything is terrible, however an excess of good whiskey is scarcely enough."
Regardless of whether he knew it, Twain wasn't simply being saucy. As it works out, there are some genuine medical advantages to plentiful bourbon utilization:
Screw Disease, Drink Bourbon
With all of the nutrient enhancements or fix-all crude food counts calories, sorting out what's genuine and what isn't is hard. Indeed, ends up, bourbon works. Similar enemies of oxidants found in red wine that assist with battling the body's helplessness to disease are similar ones tracked down in bourbon — yet in more prominent sums. In 2005, Dr. Jim Swan gave a discourse at the EuroMedLab gathering in Glasgow discussing how there are extraordinary medical advantages to the people who drink single malt whiskies, as a result of its high ellagic corrosive substance (which is a similar enemy of oxidant in red wine).
Bourbon is Perfect for Weight watchers
Losing that colder time of year weight or keeping that late spring body in shape is an amazing endeavor — particularly during top bar-b-que season. Fortunately, a solitary shot of bourbon has zero carbs and zero fat, and as per LiveStrong.com it's quite possibly of the best liquor one can consume while on a careful nutritional plan. In the event that you're attempting to cut calories without cutting tomfoolery, bourbon is really a great decision!
Bourbon Can Assist with forestalling Strokes and Keep Your Heart Solid
As per a Harvard study — indeed, that Harvard — on the advantages of liquor utilization, a solitary beverage of bourbon daily might assist with forestalling ischemic strokes. The review starts with, "Most would agree that liquor is both a tonic and a toxic substance" which we believe is damn lovely. It likewise proceeds to say that the association between moderate — we rehash, moderate — liquor utilization and a brought down hazard of cardiovascular infection, including coronary failures, ischemic (clump caused) strokes, heart passing, fringe vascular illness, and demise from all potential cardiovascular causes is genuine. So tip one back, tap your heart, and thank the sky for one more day here on the planet. Cheers, Harvard!
One to Six Glasses of Bourbon Seven days Can Assist with bringing down Chance of Dementia
Ain't it interesting? A beverage that will in general cause us to fail to remember what we did the prior night is only what could assist with saving our recollections later on down the line. As per a 2003 contextual investigation, grown-ups who drank 1 to 6 beverages seven days were close to half as prone to endure dementia than non-consumers and individuals who polished off 7 to 13 beverages per week. All we're contemplating is whether those 6 beverages should be scattered more than seven days, or on the other hand in the event that we can do them across the board sitting! Yee haw!
Bourbon Can Quiet Your Nerves
We have hardly any familiarity with you, yet in the wake of a monotonous day at the workplace, in some cases the main thing that can quiet us down is a decent solid beverage. At long last, we have the science to back up our self-treatment. As per scientists at the peter Munk Cardiovascular Center in Toronto, Canada, one beverage of either red wine or liquor daily isn't only really great for the heart, yet additionally assists with blood course, oxygenation, and so on, and in this way, assists consistent your nerves and lower your heart with rating. Yet, hold it to one beverage, as the group likewise found that different can be, and we quote, "unpleasant." Yet we envision bunches of things are upsetting assuming you're a ninny.
Bourbon Will Assist with relieving Your Virus
The Hot Drink began in eighteenth century Scotland to make Scottish scotch taste less Something truly awful (clearly, the stuff was unpalatable). Scots would blend their "scotch" with home grown tea, honey, cinnamon, sugar, dates, and whatever else was helpful to veil the awful taste. It got on and, even after the Scots got everything in order and sorted scotch out, the Hot Drink stuck. Since bourbon expands the vessels and assists with dissemination, it fills in as a great decongestant — when not indulged, that is. Liquor is likewise great at killing microbes, and when combined with the tea and honey, it's really a boozy remedy.
Bourbon Works With Your Diabetes
Diabetes is one of those sicknesses we wouldn't wish on anybody. Beside the conspicuous wellbeing suggestions, it likewise denies you of the relative multitude of things in this world that are delectable — pungent meats, desserts, broiled chicken skin, bacon, chocolate, all the nibble food sources that don't suck, and truly each and every thing we can imagine that we really appreciate eating. Fortunately, bourbon is the ideal beverage for diabetes. Zero sugars implies zero glucose, with the expansion of zero carbs and zero fat, as well! Normally, assuming that you experience the ill effects of diabetes, it's foolish to over-make it happen, however basically your drinking profession doesn't need to altogether end
Bourbon Helps in Assimilation
It doesn't take a researcher to let you know that bourbon is viewed as one of the most outstanding digestifs on the planet. What's a digestif? It's precisely very thing it seems like. Bourbon's higher liquor content animates the stomach's development of pepsin, the essential chemical in absorption that separates proteins into polypeptides — anything the screw those are. It likewise uplifts discharges in both the pancreas and nerve bladder.

[Podcast] Theater: Das kalte Herz in Gießen

Cats US Tour 2023
I’m going to go through each Cat I felt was really amazing in this performance and then go through my thoughts on the piece as a whole under the cut :3
TLDR: It was great, see it if you’re able to.
Not going over the parts I didn’t feel as strongly about because it makes me feel bad even though they’ll never see it.
Bombalurina (ERICA LEE CIANCIULLI) - Amazing, really embodied the sexy, jazzy vibes I think of when I think of Bomba. Really kept her character the entire show and was a joy to watch with Demeter in the Macavity duet. 10/10
Cassandra (LEXY BITTNER) - Slinky, mysterious everything you want in a Cassandra. Loved that she’s lit upas well when she’s Misto’s assistant. 9/10
Demeter (NORA DEGREEN) - She was great, I felt her worry with macavity and her safety with munk and bomba. Loved watching her interact with the kitties.
Grizabella (TAYLER HARRIS) - NO NOTES she’s perfect. 10/10
Mungojerrie (BRIAN CRAIG NELSON) - This man kept his character the entire time. Not once when I looked a t him did he not have a stupid ass grin on his face. 10/10
Munkustrap (KADE WRIGHT) - LOVED HIM AS MUNKU. Great presence. He knows who the hell munk is. Would be GLAD to have him as the ~new munk~ in a new movie. 10/10
Peter/Bustopher Jones/Asparagus (JOHN ANKER BOW) - adorable as Gus and hilarious as Bustopher. it’s giving very much rumpus cat. 9/10.
Plato/Macavity (SAM BUCHANAN) - THIS BOY IS HELLA THICK. The fight between him and munk was great. threw him like a rag doll. Didn’t over play it, which is great. Was very cute with Vicky in the Jellicle ball scene. Baby 9/10
Sillabub (SAM BELLO) - beautiful voice and paired excellently with Griz, their short duet give me goose bumps. 9/10
Skimbleshanks (JOHN ZAMBORSKY) - Great, loved him, gave me train cat on a mission, no notes, would trust him to make sure I wasn’t bothered by mice. Also gave me orange cat one braincell. 10/10
Victor/Old Deuteronomy (CAMERON SCHUTZA) - IF A NEW CATS MUSICAL VIDEO COMES OUT I WANT HIM AS OLD D!!! 100/10!!
Victoria (YUKA NOTSUKA) - Graceful, beautiful, also baby. 10/10
As a whole: I really loved that they went back to most of the original choreography but the changes make a helluva lot of sense and I enjoyed some of them a lot more than the original, tbh. Overall a totally great time and I loved it. If you have a chance I highly suggest you try to see this cast if you can. This cast is amazing. Not once did I hear them out of breath the entire 2 hour show. All of them were SUPERB dancers. Sound production was also excellent and the live band never missed.

The charitable foundation organizing a controversial debate featuring Steve Bannon is also one of the biggest funders of Canada’s network of right-wing think tanks.
The upcoming event, pitting the alt-right Donald Trump advisor and former head of the racist, far-right Breitbart.com against former George W. Bush advisor David Frum, is being organized by the Munk Debates, a “charitable initiative” of a shadowy group called the Aurea Foundation.
The Aurea Foundation was established in 2006 by Peter Munk, the billionaire former CEO of Barrick Gold – “the world’s largest gold mining company” – who passed away earlier this year.
According to its website, the Aurea Foundation “supports qualified institutions and affiliated individuals involved in the study and development of public policy,” giving “special attention” to issues like the “economic foundations of freedom” and “the strengthening of the free market system.”
In practice, the Aurea Foundation is one of the biggest funders sustaining a network of right-wing think tanks in Canada.

Toronto-based mining company Barrick Gold, whose abysmal record of human rights abuses and environmental degradation are documented at ProtestBarrick.net, is the largest gold mining company in the world. In April 2017, two women affected by Barrick’s Porgera Valley mine in Papua New Guinea visited Toronto to attend the company’s annual general meeting (agm). They came to speak directly to shareholders about sexual violence and murder in their community, to implicate mine employees and security, and to demand compensation and justice.
Everlyn Guape and Joycelyn Mandi of Porgera Women’s Rights Watch Association have been organizing around sexual violence perpetrated by Barrick as well as working in their communities to shift the legal and cultural barriers that prevent women from sharing their stories of sexual violence. Everlyn and Joycelyn were interviewed by Ellie Ade Kur (co-founder of Silence Is Violence, an organization that aims to radically alter the culture of institutional violence on university campuses across Canada), for the program #WeAreUofT on ciut 89.5fm in November of 2017. They invited Sakura Saunders of ProtestBarrick.net and Mining Injustice Solidarity Network and Catherine Coumans of MiningWatch Canada to join the conversation and help connect their experiences at home with the University of Toronto, Peter Munk, and Canadian politics.
After the interview, Joycelyn and Everlyn attended Barrick Gold’s agm, but their applications to speak as proxies were denied. Instead, they had Catherine Coumans read their statements as they stood next to her. Security tried to push them to the back of the room, to prevent them from sitting near Catherine, but this strategy of silencing these survivors backfired as media covered the incident.2 Today, we are talking about Toronto-based mining company Barrick Gold. It is the largest gold mining company in the world, founded by University of Toronto alumni Peter Munk, whose name appears on the university’s School of Global Affairs. We’ve got incredible women in studio from the company’s mines in Papua New Guinea here to discuss their organizing around sexual violence at the hands of Barrick employees and mine security, as well as their work in their communities, from gaslighting tactics to the legal and cultural barriers that prevent women from sharing their stories of sexual violence.
