I'm gonna be contrarian here for a minute and rant about "cats aren't even good pest control."

Which, one study that found cats don't do well against rats is not the be all end all of reality. A cat may not go after Norway rats, which are large and aggressive, no. An adult male wild Norway rat is large enough to give almost any cat a run for its money.

But Norway rats aren't the only thing that exist and get into houses and barns. It is very cold where I live, and while I see mice and packrats and voles, I have never once seen a wild RAT. Wild RATS don't get into my garage. Deer mice do. Bushy tailed pack rats do.

And you know what fixed it?

My cat. He's not even an outdoor cat. He's 100% indoors, or in the garage but only with the door closed so he can't leave.

He single handedly removed my packrat problem. I didn't need to resort to poisons and while I did set traps, none of them had even half of his success rate. Cats were domesticated primarily because of how good they are at catching small rodents. Their success knocked other animals such as trained ferrets off the popular spot for the task. Claiming a cat is useless as pest control is just plain not true.

Cats are decent pest control WITHIN CERTAIN PARAMETERS. They're good for certain types of small pest, and cats need ro be CONTAINED. Much like poisons, you can't just throw cats around willy nilly because they'll kill a shitload of non target animals.

A barn or shop cat is a good option for long term mouse control *if* it is actually confined to that barn or shop and not free to just leave. A semi feral cat that lives in a large warehouse and is vaccinated and desexed and vetted and kills whatever tiny pests get in to chew on stuff is the best case scenario for an adopted feral.

What I do NOT get however, is the insistence that terriers are better and you should just get one of those.

A dog is not an easy animal to keep and nor is it one you should go purchase because you want long term pest control in your barn. If you want a pest control solution call an externinator. If you want a dog that's intelligent and driven and needs dedicated training and care and you're happy to put in the energy to actually focus its chaotic energy into something useful then go get a ratting terrier.

These little dogs do not fill the same niche as a barn cat and their care is quite a bit more intense in general especially if the dog is going to be a house pet as well as a worker. They're intense and destructive and can and will pick fights, often fatal fights, with other animals. Stop telling people to go get one when all they need is to get some squirrels out of a shed. Buying a dog and buying pest control are not the same thing.

You could *hire* a ratter to do a sweep, but unless you're also removing the conditions that made your property popular with rats to begin with you're going to have to keep bringing them back.

I am so sorry for how this man originally treats your fear. In his mind, it’s something to make a joke about. He probably has evil plans to put fake spiders in your locker and will laugh anytime you spot a spider and freak out.

However this does eventually change when his feelings for you grow. Many of the South Park Kids have no issue with helping you out by killing/removing the bug, and Eric has never thought to step up.

Until Kyle does it for you, with a stupid smile and a gentle, “don’t worry about it.”

It’s jealousy, but also, Eric has grown a soft spot for you and no longer finds as much amusement in tormenting you like he did in the early days of your friendship.

Eric will not let anyone kill a spider for you. It’ll prolong the process, but he is your knight in shining armor. No one else gets to save you.

He makes a grand deal about it, as he uses a tissue to grab the bug. It’s a better alternative to the cruel pranks. Eric also expects a thank you for his work (often, a kiss or some other type of affection. Occasionally, he wants you to buy him a snack.)

One time, he was too slow grabbing the bug. And he’s not too afraid of insects, but after that he was also screaming and Kyle had to step in again which was a heavy blow to Cartman’s ego.

After that he buys bug spray. Unlike Stan and Kyle, Eric is apathetic to spider’s and what they do for the ecosystem. He prioritizes your safety and his appearance over the bug.

He doesn’t get the severity of it until he draws out the process a bit too long and you’re hyperventilating and sobbing.

Eric is super awkward with comforting others, and will need you to guide him if you want affection or proximity. Giving credit where credit is due, he is very good at hugs and will keep you close, helping ground you. Don’t expect a lot of sweet words or an apology, they are not his area.

However, the next time you encounter a spider, he doesn’t kill it in a drawn out way. It is swiftly removed. He still expects a kiss and hug for his troubles, though.

Kenny McCormick

Kenny does not understand your fear at first.

Due to the messy nature of his house, he has grown used to bugs and spiders. He never cared to remove them, and like Stan, is a big believer in not killing them since they aren’t typically bothering him.

That’s not to say he’s an asshole like Cartman! Karen used to be scared of bugs, and as her older brother, would remove them carefully. He’s not super sympathetic to the spider, either, and may try to save them, but in most cases he’s using a paper towel.

He probably doesn’t make it as big of a deal as the other boys. He doesn’t see a need to go out and buy bug spray, and whenever it is needed, will use a napkin or his shoe. If you have bug spray, and would prefer he’d use that, he will listen to your request. He just won’t go out of his way to buy it.

If he isn’t fast enough at getting rid of the bug, and you are severely panicking, he will be a little lost. Again, he’s not that afraid, and Karen probably wasn’t either. He will try his best!

Will probably use physical affection as a way of comforting, if you are comfortable with that. Pulls you in close, and will just be quiet until your sobs have quieted down. May run his hand through your hair, or up and down your back. Won’t pull away until you do.

When you are okay, he’ll make a joke about how he knows how to handle bad guys due to his superhero alter ego to try and make you laugh. It’s often a lame joke, but it’s enough to ground you back down after a panic attack.

Kenny might not get it, but he won’t ever make you feel bad.

It started after you two began dating. It wasn’t unlike Miko to occasionally take a human lover every few centuries but what was baffling to most people was that it was someone like you. Your presence, which used to go unnoticed by plenty of people, intrigued those who learned of your relationship. We’re you really human, or just a Yokai in disguise? All this unwanted attention has attracted many sorts of people, but the most irritating we’re the ones who tried to test their luck on asking you out.

At this point of her life, Miko was adept in terms of her patience. But these pests who are vying for your attention were certainly testing her resolve. Her busy work schedule doesn’t allow her to visit you often during the day yet she can practically sense the amount of unwanted guests you entertain all the way from the top of Mt. Yougou.

She’s on the verge of snapping when yet another one of your sudden “suitors” interrupts one of your many late night strolls through the city with the promise of a romantic, candlelight dinner by the sea. Since words can seem to get through to these dense idiots, she’ll opt to putting her arm around your waist and pull you close to her chest. If you don’t shut down the conversation immediately, she’d start twirling her finger in you hair and whisper downright filthy remarks in your ear as if the other person weren’t still there. Yet the man is still unfazed, as if he isn’t intimidated by the Yae Miko.

Finally having enough, she moves him out of the way by the shoulder and “accidentally” slips a current of electricity through him. Taking your hand, she practically drags you to your shared apartment before anyone else can try to get their hands on you.

If the people of Inazuma can’t seem to take the hint that you’re taken, she’ll have to make that fact much more obvious by biting at your neck and in places that would be hard to cover up. She’d mark your boobs, stomach and thighs, anywhere she can get her hands on really. All this pent of frustration is getting to her and she needs some form of release soon.
