i know peter is not my personal friend and companion but he sort of is. do you know what i mean? i know what i am thinking of is like a version of him that's made up by my own experiences but i also love all poets that way so it's not that different. how do i say this? it's like i am working in a restaurant or supermarket and i go out back to smoke a cigarette. and a scrongly cat saunters in and stays with me in the alley, and makes the world go a bit quieter.

Alley doesn’t feel well, and I have no idea what to do. I’ve already talked to a vet over a virtual appointment who said she needs the ER, but she also said she can go tomorrow.

Yet I’m wondering if I’m wrong, and not because of Alley or the vet, but because I’m living in an abusive household where everyone is apparently supposed to not receive medical care because it’s the devil or something, so I have to fight, and I get questioned, and questioned, but Alley’s pain is real. Her symptoms are so real. But am I going to get manipulated into dropping this or believing otherwise? Is Alley going to get ignored?

For further info: we only have one car, which only my abusive mom is allowed to drive (I don’t have a license, and wouldn’t be legally allowed to drive if I did anyway), and we’re too sick and tired to do pet uber rn. This is a mess.

Feral cat is still in the basement (as of 5 am 9/9). I opened the basement door and sat on the deck watching it for about 4 hours tonight but it got too chilly for comfort and the cat was not appearing, so I decided to put some mackerel by the stairs to the door (inside) and shut the door - if the cat finds the mackerel, it will be inclined to go to the stairs again looking for food, and I will be sitting out there tomorrow afternoon with the door open again. This afternoon, it knocked over a container of laundry pods, so it may be active again tomorrow afternoon and perhaps will take the offered chance to LEAVE.

In other, deeply interesting news:

While I was sitting on the deck, at about 11:20 I saw a black cat (not the feral, obviously) crouching just outside the half-shut yard gate. I had seen what I thought might be a cat in the snapshots from the backyard security camera this past two nights, but the camera takes really bad photos so I wasn't sure. But it was a black cat - I shone my flashlight on it. I also said "kitty kitty" and moved a little and this startled the cat into leaving.

BUT at a quarter after 4, it came back! and ate the dish of mackerel I had put just outside the gate in case it came back. Then it walked into the yard and up onto the deck!!! It almost immediately turned around and walked back down, as if it had been checking to see if the door was open. This is the door that Marcus escaped from, where my brother saw a black cat about 2 weeks after Marcus disappeared. I ran downstairs and opened the slider - the cat was already out past the gate, and I called "kitty kitty" again, which again startled it and it left. So I decided to stay up and watch the live feed from the backyard camera the rest of the night. I've turned off most of the lights in the kitchen. If the cat comes back, I will open the slider as quiet as I can and then stand back and wait to see what happens. If it doesn't come back by daylight (about 2 hours or so I think - it's 5:10 am rn) then I will try to get what sleep I can and tomorrow night, put out more mackerel and leave the slider a little open starting around 10 pm. I also had my trail cam out and aimed at the mackerel dish, so it should have several videos for me tomorrow of this cat. I won't say 100% it's Marcus for sure, but it's really, really looking like I might just have seen my babycat.
