ATLUS remade the iconic FES Opening with new visuals from the Reload version of the game and all it really does is reveal how sauceless the new cutscenes are.
youtube
And also the mixing on those trumpets in the Lotus Juice sections are atrocious, even the new Reload mix of "Persona 3 FES" (that's literally the name of the track, FES' OP is technically unnamed) is just slightly worse by trying to be new.

Persona 3 Portable Essential Mods
Here's a list of mods that will improve your experience with the PC port of Persona 3 Portable:
Fixes/Improvements:
Persona 3 Portable: TrueHD Reloaded by TrueHD Team: WIP mod that replaces a number of the AI upscaled backgrounds with high-resolution screenshots of Persona 3 FES (running the HD Overhaul mod).
P3F Model Port Project by Pioziomgames: Replaces the low-poly PSP character models with the higher-poly PS2 character models from Persona 3 FES. (FeMC's model has also been modified to fit the style of the FES models.)
High Quality Music Pack by ARandomGuy231: Replaces the compressed low-quality music with higher-quality CD rips. Also features a toggle to swap the Male and Female protag's battle music.
HD Cleaned Up Bust-Ups by MadMax1960: WIP mod to improve the resolution of character sprites.
Improved Title Screen Logo by TheNXTCypher: Replaces the upscaled logo on the title screen with a new, better-looking logo. Comes in both Blue and Pink variants.
Kenji and Junpei Spelling & Grammar Fixes by MadMax1960: Fixes typos in Kenji and Junpei's social link events.
Controller UI Overhaul by Pixelguin: Replaces the button prompts with new ones, and can be tweaked to match the controller you're using.
Useful Descriptions by yukiyoneko: Rewrites the skill descriptions to give a better indication of what they actually do and how effective they are.
HD Audio SFX by WXNDER: Replaces compressed audio for battle sound effects with higher quality audio.
Simple No Ken Romance Mod by MadMax1960: You can no longer date a child.
Tweaks:
P3F Dungeon Camera by Pioziomgames: Changes the dungeon camera to be like Persona 3 FES.
Colorful Skills+ by Pixelguin: Changes the colours of skill icons.
P3 Opening Movie by Pixelguin: Swaps the original Persona 3 opening with the P3P opening, so Burn My Dread plays when the game is booted up and Soul Phrase plays as the attract movie.
Classroom Cheat Sheet by WXNDER & MadMax1960: Let's be honest, you were going to use a walkthrough for this anyway. Might as well cut out the middle man.

You do not have to play Persona in order! Each is a standalone story, with occasional vague references to other games. The exception is Persona 1 and 2, which can still be played independently of each other but are more closely tied together in terms of character appearances.
For LGBT friendly games, Persona 2 Innocent Sin* or Persona 3 Portable** are your best bets. The Persona 2 protagonist and P3P female protagonist both have gay romance options. These games have very different playstyles, however, as the first 2 Persona games were more like Shin Megami Tensei (the series that Persona is a spinoff of) so it's just a straight RPG. Persona 3 is where Persona established its iconic calendar system and switching between school life and monster fighting.
Other than that, Persona 1 doesn't, I believe, really address anything on the LGBT front. Persona 5 is back and forth on that front with a pair of homophobic scenes (luckily easy to button mash through) but the storyline itself is very resonant with a lot of LGBT folks. Also there's a drag queen named Lala and she rules.
Persona 4 is just straight up homophobic/transphobic, as it sets up arcs to reveal that some of the player characters are gay/trans, only to pull their punches and make occasional jokes at the idea of these characters being LGBT. Also its gameplay sucks and is boring.
I personally recommend Persona 2, Persona 3 Portable (use a PSP emulator and ROM, though. the port versions of P3P suck ass), and Persona 5 Royal.
*Persona 2 is actually a duology. You play Persona 2 Innocent Sin, followed by Persona 2 Eternal Punishment. The stories are intrinsically tied together.
**There's multiple versions of Persona 3. Vanilla, FES, Portable, and the upcoming Reload, which is a remake of the vanilla game without the added content from FES or Portable.
Damn that's a lot of words

P3Reload Content. What's in and out? My opinion.
Ignoring most of the controversy, here's what I think will be included and what won't with some evidence.
INCLUDED:
Elizabeth's Quests and dates ARE likely in the game. Elizabeth's quests and dates were not in the original release of Persona 3 but became a staple after FES. We're all highly aware of how important Elizabeth is to Makoto's story in the grand scheme of things, excluding her is highly unlikely.
Evidence: QUESTS can be seen in the main menu.
(UPDATE: Quests were in game but the dates and additional quests were not)
Tumblr media
P3P Rescue Missions ARE likely in the game. These were not in the original release of Persona 3 or Persona 3 FES but was added in portable.
Evidence: The billboard can be seen in the mall and intractable on the map since it matches the other intractable map icons.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aigis's social link is likely in the game. I have no evidence other than the fact she gets a major focus at the beginning of the trailer. Aigis did not have a social link in the original release of Persona 3, but was added into Persona 3 FES and continued into P3P
Walking Koromaru is likely still in the game. Yes surprise, walking Koromaru alone or with your teammates was not in the original release of Persona 3, but was continued in FES and P3P. My evidence for this is the fact that they will be adding character stories, not removing them. Atlus is Atlus, but I don't think they would remove the only way for Makoto to interact with Koromaru in a meaningful way in FES and P3P.
Taking your team out to see films during the Summer Film Festival is likely still in the game. Again, this was not originally included in the release of Persona 3, but was continued in FES and P3P. My evidence for this is basically the same as the previous point. They are adding onto existing content, the film festival is one of the few ways Makoto can interact with his team in FES and P3P.
The Surveillance footage is likely still in the game. Once more, this is a feature that wasn't in the original release of Persona 3, but was added in FES and continued into P3P. Though I hope they change some of them to be a little less weird and more on the funny side and I have no definitive evidence that it will be included, their removal seems highly unlikely.
(quick add) Weapon Melding will likely be in the game. The Antique shop in the mall was added in FES and can still be seen and intractable in the trailer. This was not in Persona 3 vanilla.
(UPDATE: This shop was in the main game but not weapon fusion)
Tumblr media
MISC: The weapon shop includes accessories now and the old jewelry store is now a perfume shop, both were changes made in P3P and are not in FES or Persona 3 vanilla.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now for what's NOT INCLUDED (and why):
Makoto using all weapons will probably not be included. This is a carry over from P3P to save on animation costs I believe. They didn't want to animate Kotone using all the weapons so Makoto was nerfed to using a 1 handed sword. It appears this is still the case since the weapon shop specifically says "For Yukari" on the bows. I believe the original trailer had no problem showing Makoto with different weapon types, which they did not show during the reveal trailer. As weird as this sounds to say, I actually think this is a point in the favor of FemC eventually being included. P3R has taken a LOT from P3P from a glance.
The Answer will likely not be included. While I think it's no that hard for them to reskin a dungeon with Aigis as the MC to create The Answer, that's not the problem I think. Based on the same statement that mentioned excluding FES and P3P content, they are adding a significant amount of new content and character stuff.
Pretend we will see everyone's flashbacks from The Answer in the main game in their new and improved social links or through new story moments in base P3R. Can you see how that might make half of The Answer kind of pointless?
I think including The Answer won't be as simple as redoing what we already have. They will have to reformat that to fit the NEW Persona 3 and all that entails. If this is how it's going to play out, I don't mind waiting for DLC, as long as I'm not paying $60-$70 bucks a second time. With the Unreal engine and all this new tech, they should be able to update their methods like Kingdom Hearts did. No more releases at full price, just offer DLC for half price.
Kotone will likely not be included. Again, maybe not for the reasons you think. I'm aware they initially had ideas of having a female protagonist from the getgo when they were creating the original Persona 3, but that's not how things panned out. They created Makoto Yuki and based most of the story around him.
Now they're redoing his story and adding and changing a bunch of stuff. The story of Persona 3 is no longer the same. Just like with The Answer, they can't just copy and paste Kotone's story from P3P into P3R.
Just like The Answer, I would prefer if they took their time perfecting P3R and then at a later date, repaint the game in her image... PROPERLY THIS TIME. This means Kotone can be treated right this time, with custom cutscenes and all. I know people love FemC and her characterization OUTSIDE of P3P, but I would like to see that characterization properly in game this time. If they take their time to adjust the story in a way that will suit her as well, then sure. They should take that time.
ULTIMATE CONCLUSION
I think The Answer and whatever it becomes should be a package deal with a Kotone DLC. Why? Because not only is it a lot of content, but the then The Answer will apply to Kotone as well.
This also means The Answer can be tailor fitted to include Makoto and Kotone depending on which protag you selected.
Or, they could go buck wild P3P style and find a way to mix the universes given Makoto and Kotone's fate (if you know you know).
So there's my thoughts. I needed to get it off my chest because all this doom and gloom was just... not it. Not saying you can't be disappointed obviously, but the writing was on the wall for a while now.
I also want a definitive version of the game, but with the leaks, it became clear weeks ago that that wouldn't be the case. No amount of copium or rage is going to change that, the game is likely 90% complete now and putting on the final touches for launch. Atlus wouldn't delay it either, not after what happened with Persona 5.
I believe with my full chest that P3R is the definitive version of the game. Or rather, I believe with my full chest that P3R will eventually have a DLC that includes Kotone and The Answer, at last bringing the Persona 3 "definitive" debate to an end.
I also wish people would be kinder to each other no matter which side you land on. There's no point in making fun of people saddened by the lack of Kotone. Like wtf, how would you feel if Makoto was suddenly excluded from everything??? Bad right? Just stop, things would be so much better if you chilled out and consoled your fellow P3 fans instead. Kotone fans are P3 fans too. Though I can say the same about Kotone fans pissed that she isn't there and turning their anger on Makoto. Makoto is a perfectly good protagonist. No, his social links weren't great, but that's partially why people wanted a remake in the first place. This isn't a 1 to 1 game and those poopy social links will probably be improved. The arguments are pointless.
Phew.
The statement "There is no FES or P3P content" has been proven false by me, a random internet user. P3R is clearly a combination of all the games, I think the only major missing things are The Answer and Kotone and that's it right now.

Note
have you played fes or portable? it would be interesting to hear your thoughts on how they differ from reload to you!
oh i grew up playing FES & p3p!!!! i would love to go off
i won't lie, persona 3 is an extremely nostalgic and comforting game for me, so i was honestly terrified about a lot of p3r's changes. i remember reading articles months before the game came out about how all of the voice actors for SEES were new and how all of the tracks were gonna be remixed and i was legitimately terrified. i grew up with the original cast and got so attached to them/their careers that i looked up other media that they were in. to this day they are voice actors i can recognize and name right away!
the original soundtrack for p3 is so iconic too and i thought it'd lose its charm when it got remixed, but boy, was i wrong. the new battle theme (it's going down now), the lyrical changes to burn my dread - last battle, even the exam music and changing seasons. UGH, changing seasons has to be my absolute favorite of all of them... adding lyrics to the most catchy part is the best thing they could have done.
i will say (and this might be nostalgia talking), i am still really sad that yumi kawamura got replaced as the singer for nearly every song. i think the main songs that mess with me are the ones where her iconic vocals are replaced ("deep mentality" Specifically doesn't sound right with the new vocals imo), but on the whole, i like a ton of the new songs and the remixes.
onto things that aren't surface-level changes, lmao-
i absolutely adore the screentime they added for strega. they played a part in persona 3, but they were always in the background. chidori got 90% of the screentime. seeing takaya have a crisis over his feelings for the protag & jin being super codependent with takaya was SO good. hearing more about their reasoning and their backstory being more fleshed out ugh;;; the bit with the prototype evoker fucked me up especially. and seeing takaya eventually resort to using an evoker in his boss fight? HURTS
(aigis vc) RYOJI RYOJI RYOJI, DEATH DEATH DEATH. the original game (while playing as the male protagonist, at least) did not focus on the relationship between him and the protag, like...at all. which is so funny because they made it a highlight in the manga AND the movie! i've always loved ryoji to bits, but i've also had to rely a lot on the femc's route and the movie to think about how they could have bonded in the original :( thank god reload gave my boy more content because he NEEDED it. ryoji's connection to the protagonist should really be emphasized in every piece of media, and they FINALLY did it. also just about every day before i reached november, i would rant to my husband about how "there needs to be more ryoji/protag content. it doesn't HAVE to be on the level of "i'd love you even if you were a boy" but i need SOMETHING." and then atlus smacked me with "i want to be something more" and i LOST IT. THEY DID THE THING. atlus embracing the romantic tension between them MY BELOVED. (in case it isn't obvious, ryomina is my favorite ship)
SHINJIRO. the first time i played persona 3, i really didn't care for him (i've never liked characters who are stand-offish and constantly push people away without apparent reason). it was only after i realized the greater backstory that i learned to appreciate and sympathize with his character, and imo, one of p3r's greatest additions was the ability to interact with shinjiro and ken before shit goes down. shinjiro's plotline where you try to convince him to go back to school is devastating, especially when (spoilers) you find a re-enrollment form filled out in his room. absolutely fucking HEARTBREAKING. i already cried during his death (way more than i did in the original game, which is kinda crazy), but damn, they got tears out of me AGAIN with that one. i also noticed that there's a lot more foreshadowing and it is SO effective. i already went off about this on my shinjiro blog, but damn, they fucking nailed it with him.
FRIENDSHIP ROUTES!!! i can't tell you how frustrating it was trying to balance social links between all of the girls. it made me lean more into focusing on yukari (best girl) and nobody else lmao. one of the points of persona 3 was that social links were near-impossible to complete, and they really realized that goal with the girls imo. however!! getting to see the protagonist opt for friendships is really sweet. i love seeing a good rejection where neither party holds a grudge or feels humiliated. it's a really nice touch, especially because i've always wanted to see how friendships would pan out between the mc and the Gorls.
general quality of life changes & the addition of theurgy. i love that theurgy had more depth to it than just a "super move;" looking at the personality conditions is so nice and adds more to the characters than they already had. seeing that shinjiro's resolve deepens when his hp is less than half made me so :'))))
those are big things i love about p3r's changes. aside from the protag not being able to change weapons (my favorite part of original p3), i think the biggest complaint i have is that they left out the answer (p3p has been ported to modern consoles, so you can still experience the femc's route, but the answer is ONLY on ps2 to this day), and even then, i've read that they're planning to add it as dlc.
i've said this before and i'll say it again: i know people have gripes with the answer, but i absolutely adore it. it's the most realistic portrayal of grief among the dorm, which hits differently for EVERYONE. every single change to their personalities makes sense, especially taking their reliance on the protagonist into account. it's made so much more obvious in p3r (which i love), but everyone cares deeply about the protagonist. losing him is a devastating blow. and then aigis gaining his power? yukari is SO justified for being distraught and jealous. that's the realest shit i've ever seen.
also the fights between them because they can't decide whether to go to the past or look to the future...the entirety of the answer is heartbreaking because it hits so hard. yukari, who (aside from aigis) was hit the hardest by losing the protag, obviously wants to go to the past, back to a time when he was alive. the others either want to compromise or move on. the answer is about accepting life's hardships and finding a way to move on and that's beautiful. it's always hit so hard for me.
that's not even delving into metis and aigis UGH... i could go off about the answer forever.
as for p3p-
i played p3p nearly every day when i was in middle / high school. i'd bring my psp to school and play it religiously. i still remember blasting "heartful cry" on my ipod and playing p3p on the bus, lmao.
it's not my favorite iteration of persona 3 now (p3p was good for travel + when i was in school and needed something to get me through the day), but i do have a soft spot for how much effort was put into the femc's route. i will say that i'm not as devastated as a good chunk of the fandom that the femc isn't in p3r or even p3d, but i do love her character and i hope she's also eventually added as dlc (if they're gonna add the answer, then why not add femc again?). i'm really glad she was included in pq2 though, ESPECIALLY because there were so many validating twin moments between her and the male protagonist :')))
i will say, as a final note, that p3r REALLY nailed the feeling of original p3, but i think it made me way more emotional with how it was executed. i've PLAYED the game a million times! i knew every plot detail, i knew exactly how the game would play out (aside from the new additions), and i STILL sobbed several times by the end of the game. i've said this to my husband, but p3r was so well-executed that i felt like i was playing the original game for the first time!! and as someone who has experienced the game MANY times, that's such an incredible feat. i adore the remake. i'm so glad that none of my initial fears were warranted.
for once: thank you, atlus.

Okay, wow. So I just found out the news that Persona 3 Reload (in addition to not having FeMC or the Answer) will replace all the entire English Voice Cast with new actors. …Yeah.
Protagonist will be played by Aleks Le (replacing Yuri Lowenthal)
Junpei lori will be played by Zeno Robinson (replacing Vic Mignogna)
Yukari Takeba will be played by Heather Gonzalez (replacing Michelle Ruff)
Aigis will be played by Dawn Bennett (replacing Karen Straussman)
Akihiko Sanada will be played by Alejandro Saab (replacing Liam O’Brien)
Fuuka Yamagishi will be played by Suzie Yeung (replacing Paula Tiso in Persona 3, Persona 3 FES and Persona 3 Portable and Wendee Lee in the spin-off games Persona 4 Arena, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, Persona Q and Persona 3 Dancing in Moonlight)
Ken Amada will be played by Justine Lee (replacing Ken’s uncredited voice actor in Persona 3, Persona 3 FES and Persona 3 Portable and Cindy Robinson in the spin-off games Persona 4 Arena, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, Persona Q and Persona 3 Dancing in Moonlight)
Mitsuru Kirijo will be played by Allegra Clark (replacing Tara Platt)
Shinjiro Aragaki will be played by Justice Slocum (replacing George Grant)
Don’t get me wrong, I love the new actors from their other works (Suzie Yeung as Yuffie in Final Fantasy VII Intergrade; Alejandro Saab as Yuri in Fire Emblem Three Houses and Three Hopes; Dawn Bennett as Female Shez in Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes; Allegra Clark as Dorothea and Shamir in Three Houses and Three Hopes, "Boss" in AI: The Somnium Files and Iori and Chihiro in 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim; and especially Zeno Robinson as Hunter in the Owl House, Goh in Pokemon Journeys, Fogado in Fire Emblem Engage and Hawks in My Hero Academia) and am so glad they’re getting more work in what are some major roles.
It’s just that the voice cast of the Persona games are so intrinsically linked to each game due how they the performances so much focus, which will make it be hard to get used to; especially because a lot of the performances from the original Persona 3 are so iconic to their actors as some of their best work, namely (for me personally) Liam O’Brien as Akihiko, George Grant as Shinjiro, Michelle Ruff as Yukari, Tara Platt as Mitsuru and Karen Straussman as Aigis.
Again, this is good news; I just feel sad about saying goodbye to the original Persona 3 cast after having them for so many years since 2007 and getting so attached their work. But, after so long, looks like Akihiko’s “I’ve been waiting for this” will finally be gone.

What is the most effectively used leitmotif in the series and why is it I’ll Face Myself
Ooh I’ll Face Myself is amazing. The Battle Version from Reincarnation is really good. I’m not a music theory person so I couldn’t tell you any specifics about why it’s a great Leitmotif lol but I do think it’s a great representation of Yu as a character
youtube
However I think you neglected to consider that Maya’s Theme exists and Maya’s Theme is by far the most iconic Persona leitmotif in existence, with a banger remix in Persona 3 FES
youtube
I’m assuming you’re talking specifically Persona and not MegaTen as a whole because I don’t even know where I would begin with MegaTen as a whole, especially as someone who doesn’t really understand how leitmotifs work lol
