Lifestyle Holidays Vacation Resort was an interesting resort perpetuating mixed feelings in regards to overall presentation, accommodations, hospitality, and food. It was a beautiful resort as you can see from the pictures above. It was very well-kept, well-maintained, and clean. Housekeeping diligently cleaned our rooms each day, always with a smile and pleasant demeanor, as was the case with all the other resort workers. However, on closer inspection, one can see all the little cracks. In particular, the food was somewhat satisfactory. With some being too salty, too sweet, or wanting in flavor, guests can probably eat better cuisines outside of the white walls. Unfortunately, a $30 taxi cab ride (one way) is the only way to get to Puerto Plata city. Personally, I wouldn’t go back to this resort but I would give it a recommendation. Try it out for yourself- you might actually absolutely love it!

Winter isn’t coming!

So I’ve been doing a little reading as to why we (and by we I mean me) are disgustingly overweight and continuing to become more overweight and there’s this concept that we (and by we I mean the human race) have conquered Winter.

And by that I mean because we have central heating, clothing and an abundance of food we never really experience Winter like other animals do. Which means we don’t ever really get cold. At least not in Western civilisation.

Why does this matter? You ask.

Well, naturally we would spend the Summer running around finding, catching and eating as much food as we possibly could. We’d gorge ourselves silly. We’d aim to put on as much fat as we possibly could, because once Winter came we’d need those fat stores to be able to survive. We’d spend our Winters sitting still and trying to stay warm. Food would be scarce and so we’d go days, possibly weeks without eating anything. But because we ate so much during the Summer we were able to store up a load of fat, fat that we would use to keep us going through Winter.

However, in the 21st Century we never really find ourselves without food. We’re never cold. We’re never hungry. And so the fat we stored by eating so much in the Summer never gets used up. In fact, because we live in perpetual Summer with endless supplies of food we just continue to store up more and more fat.

Fat that we never use.

It’s a really interesting concept and one that I plan to find out more about. Maybe it’s time I created an artificial Winter?
