Iron "Sagaris" Battle Axe from Northern Syria dated between 480-380 BCE on display at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, England
The archaeological site of Deve Hüyük in northern Syria was excavated by local villagers and the artefacts were bought by C.L. Wooley and T.E. Lawrence before World War 1. The objects show the Achaemenid Persian Empires connections with the wider world, especially Phoenicia, Mesopotamia, Scythia and Egypt.
The Sagaris style battle axe was an example of this. It was commonly used by the Steppe cavalry of the Scythians. It became common amongst the cavalry of the Persians, Parthians and Medes as well.

Prince's Gambit Erasmus
I wanted to give him some jewelry, inspired by "gift to favored servant from master" Roman archeology finds. Because I think Torveld would gift him things. Unfortunately, it was an major afterthought.
The outfit was inspired of art works from Moroccoan servants. I'm trying to figure out Patras. Right now, my major influences are North Arab African, medieval Spain, and Perisan.
I also wanted to remove his cuffs, but when I was reading the sections, I didn't see anything mention about them being on or off.

i wanna hear you go off about alexander, idk anything about him but i love how passionate u are about him
SISSY..... already i know you didn't follow me back in 2017 which is a good thing, because that's when i got passionate about ancient history and when "classics tumblr" began to be a thing and a niche out here and it was p wild... and for everyone who doesn't know, i am actually talking about the real historical person alexander the great and that's a part of ancient history that's always been my favorite for numerous personal reasons, just so i make it clearer im not talking about some hogwash book or series or whatever because god knows there's plenty of them
and the reason hes more popular is that there's no direct historical account of him, everything comes from the roman empire era and the ones we got from them have a very... mythical aura to them, and generally alexander is more like a legend, since nobody really knows what went down...his life had a very spiritual basis and his perisan campaign had personal reasons even though his dad didn't start it with that intention, and he didn't really want to conquer persia but to unifiy it with greece which was............ not accepted by the greeks so it didn't work out. and it's just so interesting to see someone step out so much of the normativity of that time...
i cant really explain why im so passionate about this topic, it's probably a combination of factors... when i was reading the existing sources it just came so easy to me to understand what went down and what the mentally was. i also disagree with a lot of modern takes ive read in academic essays n stuff but that's ok, i understand that often they base their opinions on the general ancient greek ideas and norms, i mostly understand alexander from his relationship with spirituality because that's where i come from, but back then i used to get sooo angry at random academic article sjjsjdjsksks i was just 18 lol
also another thing that got to me was that he was rlly young and hes gay lol i forgot to mention so that's cool. because ancient greece wasn't actually that open about gay people despite the popular opinion and modern historians dont agree to this either, and they get p mad and argumentative if you say this and i never understood why it's such a bad thing but anyways. ive been hetsplained abt this before and it's not great. it's really not that deep
i mean i guess it kinda weird to be this interested and relate so much to an actual historical figure that surely wasn't a saint but wouldn't be the weirdest thing ive done. i mean how can i read about an actual psycho twink and not feel represented, im sorry we deranged gays must stick through the millennias and learn from eachother ✌️😔✌️i dont wanna make an ask response too loong but u called it ok. i anyway blog most of the time abt these freaks so.... i just get so emotional about this, but his love life and by extension his actual life end in tragedy and it's always really, really painful to remember/reread that part so i mostly pick out the good that inspires me and usually express it through my art. such is the artists life i guess.
but lol it's nice hearing that you're interested in whatever stupid shit i say on here, that's really sweet man 💖💖💖💖 love u
