One interesting aspect of looking at the evolution of internet slang is how so many abbreviations were dropped the minute people didn't have to worry about paying messager or chat services.
Back when an extra glyph, or even just an extra punctuation mark meant you had to pay more, many people just got accustomed into shortening their words, and it had become such a common internet stereotype that, to this day, when someone not familiar with how the internet works tries to talk like a "native" internet dweller, they still talk like "HLL HW R U DW C U L8R" or something like that.
Yet, now that social media and messaging services are free, internet slang is no longer so common in shortening words. (It is, instead, now more common when you need to get around not saying certain words, like saying "unalive" for instance)
It could be a nice study to understand how what was perceived as "modern youth slang" was, in reality, just a way to make conversation cheaper, and, once that was not needed, it was dropped.

Now that 2022 is over, I want to say thank you for being a part of why I have enjoyed this year.
Somehow, I keep getting notifications concerning my posts every time I check my Tumblr, every day.
I feel like you all welcomed me in here, despite the fact that I only joined Tumblr in 2020, during the pandemic. (Or maybe shortly before, but that is not the point)
I wonder what else the future will bring, and, as I am typing this final post of the year, I wish you can all end the year with a smile, and that the new one will bring you a reason to be happy.
Enjoy what's next, because, even if they will not go down in history, every day deserves to be remembered.

I wonder how much of the trend of setting so many movies and shows in the years between the early 1980s and the early 2000s can be attributed to the fact that this era is recent enough to be depicted as close to modern day, yet far enough to not have our current technological devices.
I bet there are some movies out there that act like they want to "homage" the 80s or the 90s because "this is a tribute to that era" is ten times less awkward than "we needed to set this movie in a time where the plot wouldn't be solved within the first 5 minutes by using a smartphone".

I’ve seen multiple instances of someone trying to shoehorn the “Mayan End of the World” after 2012 to make it seem still relevant, but I feel like one of the funniest ones has to be when posts started circulating about how the calendar is set 8 years later than what it should be, so 2020 was actually 2012, meaning that the Mayans were right.
Now, why is it funny? Because the reason why this post exists is that, according to the Ethiopian calendar, 2020 corresponded to 2012-13, which means that the whole “2020 is actually 2012″ would only make sense if you use that calendar. This implies that, somehow, the Mayans knew about the Ethiopians so well that they based their own calendar around them, and I feel like trying to figure out and explain how would that work is much funnier than making conspiracy theories about the end of the World.
