I JUST FINISHED COTG AND I AM BESIDE MYSELF. I HAVE DISSOLVED INTO A PILE OF HAPPY GOO. I HAVE WORK IN THE MORNING BUT I CANNOT SLEEP BECAUSE I AM SO OVERCOME WITH FEELINGS.

I just can't even describe the sheer joy I felt at hearing Percy's voice again, after all these years. In some moments, it was like I was a teenager again, reading along and cry-laughing at his sarcastic perspective on how utterly preposterous his life continues to be. (Nostalgia played a huge part in that of course, but it also just was genuinely refreshing.)

However in other moments. I was very aware of the fact that I'm an adult now, and that my life, like Percy's, has only gotten wilder and more exhausting as it has gone on. So it was honestly quite comforting to read Percy say that he still looks forward to living his life fully, despite all the bitterness and chaos and confusion and pain, because joy and love and friendship help to balance out those darker moments. I think that's become clear to both Percy and I as we've gotten older, so I really appreciate how much time Rick spent driving that point home. It's not something I would have valued as highly when I was younger, but time has deepened my appreciation of aging - another theme I adored.

And even though I just tried to calmly offer a few themes I found meaningful, I'm back to screaming, because I CANNOT BE NORMAL ABOUT THE PERCABETH. It was SHEER PERFECTION. It was THEM. Growing together, maturing together, figuring things out together. Being utterly BESOTTED with each other! Teasing each other! Finishing each other's thoughts! Embarrassing Grover! Using a couple of random pet names! Being so COMFORTABLE with each other! Half of Percy's thoughts being how much he loves her? His love for her literally saving his life MULTIPLE TIMES?! Their love destroys me, in every possible good way.

(It was the perfect inspiration for my next chapter of '[conduct] not unbecoming' - Annabeth sneaking in through Percy's bedroom window at 4AM and Percy knowing his mom wouldn't care if she caught the two of them in there together? Fic GOLD. 👀👀 I'm also honestly SO PLEASED that Percy's Senior Year (mis)Adventures have remained essentially canon! 🥳 There are 1-2 tiny, tiny changes I'm going to make so the series perfectly aligns, but I really think Rick and I were sharing a brain cell at a few key moments! 😂)

But finally, let me be real for a second:

I know not everyone is going to love it, for reasons that they have every right to expand on themselves, in as much detail and with as many feelings as they want. Go forth and vent, if that's what's fun for you! But that isn't fun for me, and I want to be pretty clear now that will not be hosting any discourse on my blog, because I no longer have the ability or motivation to engage patiently, kindly, and in good faith with those who do not seem able to offer that same courtesy to others. Once upon a time maybe, but I'm too old and tired for it now.

A thin barrier between two worlds for the fic ask game?

Ah, this is a great one, because there is SO MUCH behind-the-scenes info I could reveal about this fic.

I'm sure it won't come as a great surprise to know that I looked up SO many pictures and schematics for urban water-based transportation systems to try and get my ferry repairs right, and also talked to a fabulous fandom friend who knows more about boats than I do about any details I couldn't quite figure out.

But what maybe WILL come as a surprise is that I 100% expected most of y'all to hate it. 😂 Like, I was ACTIVELY psyching myself up to get hate comments, worried that everyone would be mad that Ms. Lafayette didn't feature, that no one would like Giovanni, that everyone would tell me a slightly cocky Percy was too OOC...I very nearly didn't post it. Now, was this probably my imposter syndrome/internal critic just trying to sabotage my creativity? Yeah! But I was so panicky about not turning out a perfect product for y'all that if it weren't for the timely reminders from friends and Mr. Sky that nothing is perfect but all things can be good, it might never have seen the light of day! I'm not even sure I have words for the relief I felt - and still feel - knowing that y'all have actually enjoyed it 😂

Dear anonymous friend, I did answer this relatively recently, but I will certainly answer again. 💙

As a general rule, I will never abandon anything I have started publishing, because if I have started publishing, then I have the entire fic mapped/plotted out ahead of time, even if it isn't fully written yet. (The one exception to that was the first fic I ever posted, because I got COVID while writing and fucked up my outline, so then I decided to scrap it and reuse part of the outline for a currently-undisclosed fic of another type. But no one was waiting on that fic. 💀)

I will ESPECIALLY never abandon anything without letting you all know, in very plain terms, what is happening.

So, therefore: 'Percy's Senior Year (mis)Adventures' are ongoing! Not abandoned, not on hiatus, just moving quite a bit slower than I originally intended, rip me.

...but here is a little piece of news for you: I am quietly confident that I will have a new chapter of '[conduct] not unbecoming men that [strive] with gods' by the end of this month. 💙

Hello sweet anonymous friend! I'm tired today, but otherwise quite well - thank you for asking!

And thank you specifically for asking about 'conduct'. 💙 I know. It's been forever since I updated. I never thought I'd be that person who took a year to update a fic, but here I am, 10 months from my last update, still fighting with the next chapter. Tbh, I may end up taking some things out and moving them to another chapter, which will make this one shorter, but might help get me unstuck from the one or two plot points that I've really been fighting with. So there's a chance this little snippet won't be in this chapter, but will be in a later chapter! But I'm always happy to give one, so always feel free to ask. 💙 Enjoy!

"There were very few things that Sarah Lafayette missed about the ramshackle little town that had once been her home, but the coming of spring was one of them. 

Up in the mountains, spring had been a process, predictable and steady. Icy patches of snow in isolated meadows slowly melted into equally pale patches of bluets and bloodroot, and the ever-present smell of woodsmoke became less heavy as the sharp, green scent of moss and mud filled the air. Sudden cloudbursts made water pour down the sides of the mountains, turning back roads into creeks and frozen cow ponds into bubbling, roiling cauldrons of algae and tadpoles. And when the sun re-emerged, hot fingers lazily weaving crowns of leaves to drape over the naked trees, people stood in fields and streets, tipping their faces up to try and catch a caress of their own.

There was nothing nearly so idyllic about March in New York City.

The concrete and steel buildings that the city was known for struck her as cold and stark and impersonal in every season, but even the charming brownstones, colorful murals, and glittering, flashing lights that brightened the streets seemed dull and muted in the gloom of heavy clouds and near-constant, biting rain. Instead of welcoming the moisture they needed to thrive, lone plants seemed to shrivel back into the ground, trying to escape the acrid gray water that drove into the hard soil. It seemed to take so much longer for life to re-emerge here than it had at home, and while it huddled beneath bark and branch, the city remained stuck in the grip of winter. 

Even native New Yorkers, who took so much pride in their city that it bordered on delusion, could admit that March was probably the worst month of the year.

And though that had been true every one of the ten years she had spent here, it seemed especially so this year. 

Meteorologists had been puzzling over the bitter cold, howling rain, and the even-more-noticeable-than-usual lack of light for months. Quips about the sun going missing had become common as the newscasters tried to think of more and more creative ways to say what they all already knew: that it was still raining - still storming, really - with no sign of any let up.

But they also continued to repeat an important dictum to their wet and weary watchers: there are a thousand meteorological explanations for why storms form, why they build, and why they devastate - but they do all dissipate in time."

You're absolutely, 100% right - Percy and Annabeth truly are just teenagers who have had to do completely bizarre and horrifying things to survive to this point, and at least in my mind, that means that they're eventually going to need to sit down and try and process that! So that is what I have been trying to give them - space to process and talk and reflect and become the people they want to be! I'm so glad all of that rings true to you, too, because I wanted it to feel real and accurate to their characters. 😌

Lmao, YES, Annabeth could be scary as FUCK if she wanted to (or if she ever snapped), and I really wanted to show that! There are a lot of fics exploring Percy's dark side (of which this is one, lol), but I haven't found nearly as many that explore the what ifs of Annabeth giving in to her fatal flaw. And that really isn't the focus of this fic, but I really wanted to just add in that little moment of her being scary too! Complex female characters, we love them. 😌 Also, another reason why she are Percy are well matched, but that's another point entirely...

Aww, thank you my dear! 😊 I'm so glad you love it! I know I haven't added something new to it in a while, but it still occupies a very fond place in my heart, and always will!

Hmmm....let's see. Okay, this is kind of a big one! In every single installment so far (and in the 2-3 standalone fics in the series still to come after I finish '[conduct]'), there has been (and will be) a VERY subtle Easter egg that points to a very central part of the plot of the sequel fic, which will take place the summer after Percy's freshman year of college! Each Easter egg is so subtle that I doubt anyone will be able to actually predict how they are all going to come together, but I know the internet likes secrets, and trying to figure them out, so I offer you the chance to try! The only hint that I'll offer is that the sequel fic is going to be quite a bit darker in tone and theme and content than the '(mis)Adventures' are...happy sleuthing! 😉
