Convention/Event Review Master List
Because now that I can, I am definitely going to gather these all in one place. It’s a good excuse to go back and edit things. I’ll be adding reviews as I find them in my archives or as I add them in the future.

Overdue Post: Peoria GeekFest 2018 (Prose and Cons)
Another overdue post this week! (It’s really the week for them!)
Peoria had a mini-con last month! It was arranged by the Peoria Riverfront Museum, and took place on the evening of Saturday, July 21, 2018.
$18/person got you into the event as well as admission to the museum's normal offerings, though not into the screening if Spirited Away in the Giant Screen Theater, sadly. So @lechevaliermalfet and I did have to pass on that. But there was more on offer, not to worry!
Right away, walking in, there was signage to indicate that the 501st Legion were on hand, a Super Smash Bros. tournament, and of course, cosplay events later in the evening.
The artists’ alley was small, but full of good variety.
Tabletop gaming was provided by a local game shop, Just For Fun, and seemed to have a decent variety as well.
Looking at the schedule of events, it was clear that guests were expected to spend at least a chunk of their time enjoying the museum itself. So...we did!
In addition to the museum’s usual local history offerings, they were playing host to the Mythic Creatures: Dragons, Unicorns & Mermaids exhibit. It was an absolute blast to explore, and I highly recommend it if you get a chance to see it.
The planetarium was also open for the evening.
On offer in the planetarium that evening were a Pink Floyd laser show (which is what we took in), Star Wars trivia, and the standard planetarium show.
The museum also has sporting and river exhibits on hand. We didn’t enter the river exhibit, but there apparently giant games set up in that area. We had more fun goofing off in the sporting exhibit.
There was a Cosplay Q & A panel followed by a Cosplay Contest, both of which were hosted by La Vie Cosplay. I’ve mentioned them previously on this blog, since they hosted the same events at the HLPD Nerd Con and they’re also panelists/staffers/people of many hats at AnimeCon.Org events.
I was sitting at the back of the room, and didn’t think to move up when the contest started, so I didn’t have the best view for photos...
Still, this event was super fun and I was glad to see it draw an all-ages crowd. I do think that if it had just been the panels/artist alley/gaming on its own, $18/4 hours would have been a bit steep. But since access to all museum exhibits was included, it was a very fair price. Museum staffers said they had met, and possibly doubled, their attendance goals for the night. Hopefully that means the event returns next year!
