This is like terminal "has only read two stories in her entire life" shit but also like. Elden ring demigod family is so thebes royal family coded. To me
#and i dont say it because oedipus incest ahahaha#i am actually referring more to the whole. precedent stuff#a la cadmos/pentheos/laios where the main patriarchs have sinned in the eyes of those above them#and this caused their family to be giga cursed and doomed to fail from the start#there IS something about the labdaicides cycle in them but its more of the womb motif stuff than incest#<<although one could argue thst the reason why the womb motif is so poignant in the thebian cycle#is *because* of the parent child incest shit

365 Promises of God
Day 355 – You will be Comforted
Blessed [are] those who mourn, For they shall be comforted. (Mat 5:4 NKJV)
Read: Matthew 5:1-12
Today’s promise is one of those ‘Be Attitudes’ we discussed a short ten days ago, from the Sermon on the Mount. As all of those promises found in Matt 5, this one requires something of you.
Mourning is not something any of us want to do. My wife recently lost her stepfather, and it brought back to me some of the grief I felt over the loss of my own father more than a half-century ago. I bawled like a baby, wailing uncontrollably for a few minutes during the service. At the age of 25, I was shocked later at how much my father’s death hit me. And that pain is still present today, though not as sharp and crushing. I know, right? Why can’t I just ‘get over it already’?
If you’ve lost a parent, or a child, a sibling or a close friend, it’s a traumatic event. You don’t just ‘get over it.’ EVER. You get THROUGH it, by God’s grace, and you are comforted by Him IN it, because you realize there is hope beyond the grave, and our Lord has conquered death and the grave. It is no longer the enemy with ultimate power. Because men can threaten us with death, but if there is life after death, even the shortening of this life by evil men simply ushers us into a better tomorrow.
The Greek word used here, pentheo, is an interesting word found 10 times in the New Testament, each time referring to grieving, mourning, wailing. It was used in the Old Testament Septuagint to translate various Hebrew words for mourning. But it was NOT used in Jer 9:17, when translating the ‘wailing women’ or mekonenet (lit qonen) referred to there. Who were these ‘wailing women’? One of the possible jobs a woman could actually get, a paying job, in OT times, and even in NT times, was to be a professional mourner. That’s right, somebody who DIDN’T know the one who’d died, but wailed and cried over them like they did. It’s expected that if somebody impacted your life, if they made a difference in you, you should attend their funeral, and comfort the family. Get closure to their lives and receive a promise of their promotion to glory.
But some people, obviously, had few family and no friends. Like an Ebenezer Scrooge, there would be no love, no family, no standing-room-only crowd at their funeral. In fact, you might only have people in the procession to their grave if you paid somebody to do it. So there was a lucrative business for the mekonenet. To be a ‘fake mourner’.
But you know, for those of you, like me, who legitimately mourn over the loss of someone you loved dearly, someone who was your rock and represented the immovable in your young life, or perhaps a spouse that was your whole WORLD, let me remind you, gently, that there is a God in heaven who loves them as dearly as He loves you, and that there is a hope beyond the grave for all who will call upon the name of the Lord, even if that is in their final few seconds.
You probably guessed, however, that there is another life application to what Jesus said here in the beatitudes. It may even be the application you’ve heard more about from the pulpit, and perhaps more to the heart of what Jesus was referring to. You see, in the beatitudes, All of the other beatitudes refer to a condition and attitude of the heart – to be meek, to be poor in spirit, to hunger and thirst for righteousness, to be merciful and pure in heart. These qualities are not all common to all men, like mourning for the dead is. So why would this beatitude be any different?
The better application of this promise is when we mourn over our sin. You see, the sin that so easily besets us is the same sin that kills us. It’s the same sin that caused a curse to be laid on all of creation. It’s the entire reason death exists at all, and it’s the thing that killed the holy Son of God.
Our sin may provide pleasure for a short season, but it leads to death, and we should mourn over it. We should wail over our condition. We should not treasure it, but stab it in the heart with a cross. Mourning over our sin, getting alone with God and crying out over whatever we are struggling against, is part of our condition as sinners bought with a price. We must meet with God, not just once, but often, to get clean, to get right, to seek forgiveness and find grace and mercy.
Oh dear precious Christian, He is waiting patiently for you to turn to Him, to meet with him, to confess what you’ve kept locked away in the dark in secret, when He knows about it all already. Mourn over your mistakes, and be comforted. Because, He’s already dealt with it. ALL of it. Sure, we stumble. Don’t you DARE think you are alone in this. I am in this with you. And Sister Bertha Better-Than-You in the Amen Pew is just as guilty, just as stained, and just as in need of mercy and forgiveness as you are. And comfort is offered to you if you will just mourn over it? Isn’t it time?
Prayer:
Lord, I know you are waiting in my closet, to meet with me. May I be desperate for you, and come mourning, in search of comfort, today. Amen

rules: tag 9 people you want to get to know better. I was tagged by @peachpulpeuse i feel like a kid again
last song: the last thing i played on spotify was white noise (3 hours continuous) 432 Hz LPF because i need white noise to sleep. i have covid rn so i’m sleeping in my guest room and i don’t have my little fan! last actual song was “…baby one more time” by brittany spears because there’s something about doing anything while listening to old pop that would have played at the skating rink near my house that hits just right
last show: im almost at the end of watching all of king of the hill for the first time. if you’ve never given it a chance, it’s a great show
currently watching: i think i may have to watch “girls” because my fiancé has been watching and he wants someone to talk about it with
currently reading:
(thank u for book recs i’m always looking for more bc i work a very boring job and i listen to audiobooks all day) (also if anyone just wants to send me book recs ily)
i have not been particularly satisfied with my current reads but i don’t know if that’s fair to them bc i’m decidedly scatterbrained atm
the bone orchard by sara a. mueller. framed as a who-done-it mystery of the death of a king but also a type of psychic magic exists within the world. i haven’t reached the end of this, but so far i feel that this story was not benefitted by advertising it as such. it makes me anticipate a very different kind of story instead of appreciating what it is
the memory theater by karin tidbeck this is my second time trying to read this, i can’t seem to stay focused enough to appreciate the nuances of a fey society at this time. 🤧
one i WOULD rec though, “the long way to a small angry planet” by becky chambers. this author writes their characters so wonderfully and with so much care, it’s a motley crew of space fairing adventures and so much more
current obsession: i haven’t settled on one right now but i keep swapping in between making houses in sims and making houses in acnh. i just want to arrange things nicely in a way that i am wholly unable to at home rn
tagged: @pentheos @puddle-of-ashes @jvhdb @remacei @calipsoe @ugetwhatuget @kravicle @golgonooza4fold @den-koon @kaleidoscopicbullettrain do not feel obligated BUT do say that you’ve been tagged by me if you were not but would like to do a lil tag meme bc i would love to read the answers i’m sick and bored pls entertain me

New D&D Campaign
My new D&D campaign has started. Last week in fact. I was too busy with work to post about it until now.
Here’s our Dramatis Personae
Aelfreada Aelwina Malwenda (Half-Elf Barbarian 1/Druid 2 (Circle of the Moon); Outlander Background) Played by Ed. Brogan Ironbeard (Gold Dwarf Bard 3 (College of Swords) Gladiator Background.) Played by Jack
Count Chasiel “Chase” Hartzwick (Variant Human Cleric 3 (Order); Courtier Background). Played by Dave “Fouchard Flamberge” (Changeling (From Eberron) Bard 1/Sorcerer 2 (Giant Soul (Cloud)); Spy Background) Played by John. Pentheo Maenak (Variant Human Wizard 3 (Enchanter). Acolyte Background. Played by Chris.
Each character was in a different starting city. Ed was in Whitehorn, Jack in Calimport. Dave in Triboar, John in Suzail, and Chris in Baldur’s Gate. They got to pick their starting points. Any place except Silverymoon, and they had to be at least 100 miles from their birthplace. (Dave and Ed picked places basically at about the minimum distance limit.)
I had each player roll a D10, and D20, and this was their starting ‘Date’ Jack rolled a combined 6, while Ed rolled a combined 27.
I opened the game with an assassination attempt on each character. I made a custom monster (it was just a punched up human with a poisoned blade), and had them all be attacked in their sleep, but a bad dream/nightmare woke each person up as the assassin tried to strike, thus missing on their attempt.
Ed & Jack each managed to kill their assassins. John, Chris, and Dave, each tried to run, or in Dave’s case tried to trap them without harming them. John & Chris successfully escaped, but Dave could not make good rolls to catch his target.
Each was essentially possessed by a spirit. Tyranthraxus (look that up.) After round 2, if they had failed to kill their targets, the spirit was inflicting 3d8 psychic damage to the host body. None of the hosts made it past round 4.
Each assassin had a knife with an unusual poison on it. Also their blades were made in a custom style and design which no one has used for a century or so. One of them had a tattoo. (Ed’s assassin was randomly determined to have it.)
Each Assassin is a member of a new Fire Knives group trying to become a powerful force. Tyranthraxus is using them as cover. He sees himself ruling as a powerful Lord, and he’s looking to eliminate those who would threaten that. Using his abilities to see info the future, he sees who could challenge him, To that end, he is trying to kill the PC’s before they become strong enough to do that.
The party members all survived as they were expected to. I did not expect 2 of them to essentially run. Basically though, they’ve got the blades as their clues. Jack investigated the poison aspect. And it got him a clue, but he doesn’t know what it means yet. Ed has the tattoo clue, but doesn’t know what it means, and he’s not sure he’s going to check it out yet.
They all tried to investigate the blade angle, and learned that the knife was created and designed to be an assassin’s weapon. It ‘holds’ poison well. It also has some sort of “maker’s mark”, but no one locally knew who it was. The mark will point them to Yulash, where the maker is, and where the Fire Knives are making their Headquarters.
We ended with the individual character deciding what they wanted to do next.
Jack, John, and Chris are investigating random rumors they’ve heard.
Dave questioned his assassins corpse with Speak with Dead and paid a pricey sum to do it, and is heading to Yartar where the assassin told him they were from. (Did you a corpse can lie with regards to Speak with Dead? Especially if hostile to the caster?) So he’s headed in the wrong direction.
Ed hadn’t really decided. He’s in a city, but by barest of margins. He’s probably going to explore more, but he’s not sure.
I’m playing this very ‘Sandbox”-y. I want the characters to come together on their own. But discover the reasons on their own. Or discover each other on their own.
The group can learn more about the marks, tattoo, poison, etc, is they visit a good enough library or sage. So far none of them have done that. Chris and John are close enough to one in the cities they are in, but they have to go there. I’m not nudging them. I’ll probably end up sending a 2nd round of assassins in session 3, depending on what they do in session 2.
Which is tomorrow night.

THE 'NEXT' REVIEW (BEST OF 2016): Redd Lettaz - Pentheo
Written by Jason Andre Roberts aka CONQUEST
Calling an album "CLASSIC" is not something I take lightly. "CLASSIC" is a term reserved for music that is forward thinking, adventurous, culture shifting, a proven masterpiece, a cut above the rest, trendsetting, genre defining etc. etc. "CLASSIC" is also non dependent on sales or mainstream popularity. "Thriller" was a Michael Jackson album that has sold more copies than any other LP in history, "Suburbs" from Arcade Fire won a Grammy but is not even platinum in sales, but the commonality they have is that there is phenomenal & breathtaking material on both records....
Redd Lettaz "Pentheo" is the "Surburbs" of 2016 hip-hop that is Christian or otherwise.
When I started tweeting that I thought this album may be the best on the year, I had one follower remark that he didn't even know that Redd had an album out at all, which, if you think about it, is a crying shame. An album this phenomenal should be the talk of the town instead of the talk of the few, but it doesn't diminish the fact that the rapper born Courtney Kelly has delivered a landmark record. "Pentheo" is the Greek word for 'mourning' and it is an album that not only sticks to that theme, but expands, dissects and challenges the ideology of what mourning means in the biblical context, and he does that with a personal narrative that is brilliantly heart wrenching and redemptive.
This may be a spoiler alert (so skip to the last paragraph if needed), but this album is essentially split in a half with the two subjects that drive Lettaz into deep turmoil, questioning and grief, and still, they both add up to a complete story if you're really paying attention to the conviction behind every bar & every verse. The first half of "Pentheo" finds Redd in a state of grief disguised as confidence & indifference that turns into concern about his place in hip-hop & black culture. "Redd Rumm" is probably one of the best "one verse songs" ever recorded and it's executed over a fierce boom-bap soundtrack that gradually evolves as it moves along. It's a song where Lettaz is taking out mysogny, dumb dances and 'mumble rap' by force with a lyrical tour de force while using 'a blowtorch to record it', and with that, he's questioning the reasons why his work is still underappreciated to the point it leads him to depression. "Invincible" continues the aforementioned sentiment, with Redd defiantly accepting his 'outcast' role as a top tier lyricist in a watered down rap culture over trumpets that playfully dance around the drum programming that knocks with blunt force. On "Pentheo", Lettaz breathes new life into rap music while lamenting the death of its quality control at the same time with a 'me & God against the world' mentality via the slick and thumping "The Mission" ft. the super dope J. Griff & "Myn How Ya Talk". His grief extends to the plight of black folk with "#Revolution" ft. Sha Stimuli, and it's where Redd is critiquing the idea of "All Lives Matter" while Sha is wishing he was a cop to show white people what it's like to deal with oppressive law enforcement, along with his other observations.
During the 1st half of "Pentheo", it's important to consider the interjection of Redd's playful banter with his late wife interwoven within the 1st couple of tracks (along with the phenomenal production that exists throughout the LP). It not only signifies the bond these two shared, but it also speaks to how much of a support system she was for him, even in the midst of her illness. With that being the case, it only makes the devastation of losing her feel more cerebral and punishing as you listen to the 2nd half of "Pentheo", but before we get there, we get "Esrever" ft. Michael White, a technical marvel that's a detailed look at the disintegration of womanhood & humanity.
As we finally hit "Pentheo" second act. "Chapter 16" ft. Jonathan Baker" is terrifying & explodes with anguish, even with its soulful melody, and begins with Redd dealing with loneliness after desperately pleading with his wife to stay alive as she's perilously close to death, and it continues with his skillful take on immediate grief, and then there's "The Voicezzz"....
"The Voicezzz" is the audio equivalent of the absolute worse and heartbreaking emotional roller coaster you could ever be on. It is incredibly hard to listen to, and its finale will make your heart leap out of your throat. It may also be the best song album and the one where Redd is delivering impassioned vocals (instead of spitting premium bars) over a monstrous & melodic beat. From that point, the process of mourning begins with its trials and tribulations and eventual triumph. It's torturous from the jump with "Pentheo" ft. Tommy Rxckit where he examines the idea of abandonment, isolated manhood & creating a facade in the midst of a major loss & how it forces him to seek a quick fix. "The Vicexxx" is where he tackles his lustful desires head on over a groovy Latin vibe. "Dances With Glitches" aka "D@ncez W1t Gl1tch3z" featuring Daniel Steele & Tommy Rxckit is the track where Lettaz is being chastised by the enemy who is using his insecurity to tear his self esteem apart during the worst time of his life.
"Dizzatisfied" is like a lost modern day 'D'Angelo meets Bilal' record where Redd is at the very end of his patience with this season of being a widower and a single father. But then comes the one two punch of "Dealing" ft. Sean C. Johnson & "Alive" that closes the album, with both songs being masterful compositions that show Lettaz coming to grips with mourning and accepting the blessing that comes with it, along with his willingness to allow the process to used for God's glory.
So you see, "Pentheo" is a rewarding listen from a visionary artist who was brave and transparent enough to allow US to take a walk into the darkest time in his life that eventually took us toward the light, and in the journey, he has delivered one of the finest rap albums ever created. It's time to make it the talk of town for the sake of people currently in their "stormy" season who desperately need a record like this.
Rating: 4.8 out of 5 (CLASSIC ALBUM)

MOURN! Do you ever “mourn” for someone or about something? I mean really mourn? I think it’s an emotional outburst that many of us don’t ever think about, but I know of times when we just break into “mourning.” “GOD BLESSES THOSE WHO MOURN!” FUNERALS In the Jewish Culture, when someone dies those in charge would hire women to sit in the back of the room and mourn. They would cry, wail and carry on in such a way that those who came to pay their “last respects” would break into mourning. These women would force upon others, this “mourning or grieving” process to enable others to vent their sorrow, and then get on with life. My cousin related to me recently that when my dad died, she remembered hearing her father (my dad’s brother) just break out in sobs…crying. That wasn’t a “put on” display, it was from the heart of a man who was broken. He truly “mourned” for the death of his brother. During that same time just prior to the funeral, at my mom’s home, many of our relatives came to the house. As they were gathering, (many coming from some distance) I remember going up to my dad and mom’s bedroom, lying on the bed and just sobbing for the death of my dad. After several minutes of this, I got up, washed my face and went down and met my relatives. My time for mourning was over. There is a time to laugh and a time to mourn. Times call for extreme brokenness and mourning is part of that. Do you mourn? Have you ever thought of it? MOURNERS Matthew 5:4 says, “God blesses those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” Who are those who mourn? Surely, we can consider all those who lose loved ones. I have down many funerals for babies and little children, and I don’t think there is a harder moment in time than watching the parents of a child in a process of “mourning.” They truly become broken, with answers that make no sense at all. Long after we have left and resumed our lives, they continue to “mourn.” GOD SAYS, I WILL BLESS THOSE WHO MOURN, BY BRINGING THEM COMFORT IN THEIR STATE. We can know that God desires (in time) to reduce that pain, by comforting them in their loss. DEEPER MOURNING Jesus was aware of a much “deeper mourning.” A grieving or mourning that goes on all around us. The greek word “pentheo” means to “mourn” or grieve…..for the sinful nature that we find ourselves constantly hearing about. This is deeper in that our eyesight begins to see the terrible plight of mankind as we walk our Journey. It is to see with our eyes the destructive nature of mankind towards mankind. Mourn, Jesus says, because of the power of the wicked who oppress the righteous man. Grieve or Mourn for: The prostitute (male or female)–Do you ever stop to think of how they got to this point? Was it a priest/pastor; a doctor or school teacher…who did something to them early on? Was it a father, uncle, brother, cousin or someone who they would have to acknowledge for the rest of their lives? DO YOU MOURN FOR THEM? The disabled–Do you ever stop to think of the destruction of their body in some way to make them unable to function like you can? Was it sin that caused it? Was it something (medicine) taken during formation? DO YOU MOURN FOR THEM? The products of war/crime–Do you ever think of all the Vietnam Vets who are still hiding out in the “jungles” of Washington/Oregon/Idaho states or other places who are still fighting the war? Do you ever think of the man or woman who has seen war up close in Irag/Afghan. and comes back shocked into a new and different life? See the movie “Brothers” and it gives you this picture. DO YOU MOURN FOR THEM? The victims of scams–Do you ever think of the scam artists in our land (Bernie Madeoff, etc.) who take advantage of others in order to make themselves richer…than when someone looks him in the eye and says, “Is my money safe?” He says, “Yes!” All the while knowing it has disappeared? DO YOU MOURN FOR THEM? Victims of crimes—Do you think of all the innocent victims which have died at the hands of those who just want to hurt someone? DO YOU MOURN FOR THEM? CAN YOU GO ON FROM HERE…CAN YOU TAKE A MOMENT AND CONSIDER THE PLIGHT OF THE HUMAN BEINGS AROUND YOU AND SEE THE CONDITIONS OF THIS WORLD, AND “MOURN FOR YOUR FELLOW MAN/WOMAN? JESUS MOURNS FOR US Luke 19:41-44 Jesus mourns for Jerusalem. He literally “WEEPS!” He comes toward Jerusalem, and looks over it, and “WEEPS!” As we came into JERUSALEM FOR THE FIRST TIME, our bus driver stopped and we got out. As I looked over the heart of that great city, I remembered the emotion Jesus had for the city. HE WEPT! He could see the distruction that was to take place, and it broke his heart. Have you ever looked out over the group of a people such as: prostitutes, alcoholics, drug users, teenagers who commit murder, those who ravage the lives of children, those who scam old people, those who keep the poor, “impoverished.” Do you ever think of the gays and mourn? Do you ever think of all the people who are kept in jobs with no hope for tomorrow while the people on top get richer at their expense? The victims of natural disasters? HOW MUCH DO YOU MOURN FOR YOUR FELLOW JOURNEY MATE? HOW MUCH DO YOU STOP AND THINK OF THE PLIGHT OF A CHILD WHO HAS BEEN MOLESTED BY A GROWN-UP AND NOW HAS TO FEND FOR THEMSELVES? DO YOU MOURN FOR THOSE WHO CANNOT FIND THEIR WAY ON THE JOURNEY…THOSE WHO ARE LOST? Look deep into the eyes of a person and consider how their life would have been different if only………? How much would have changed if they had been shown the compassion of a man or woman who wept for them? GOD BLESSES THOSE WHO MOURN, FOR THEY SHALL BE COMFORTED! MOURN FOR THOSE WHO ARE LESS BLESSED THAN YOU TODAY! CONSIDER THE JOURNEY OF ANOTHER WHO IS LESS FORTUNATE THAN YOU! MOURN FOR THOSE WHO NEED AND YOU WILL BE BLESSED BY BEING COMFORTED.
