A quick Seattle trip, and the sort of return of the Pentax IQZoom 928, 15-16 October 2024
Sloop Tavern, Ballard. 16 Oct 2024. Pentax IQZoom/Espio 928, Kodak Ultramax 400 The great thing about Seattle is its relative proximity to Portland, just about 200 miles to the north. It’s easy to pop off to The Emerald City when I want to go to another actual city,1 just a three-ish hour drive or Amtrak trip. But the drawback is that ease makes it easy to make all my trips to Seattle a quick…

Of course after I got rid of the Pentax, I…

Goodbye, Pentax IQZoom 928: The Exit Interview
Another camera leaves the stable, this time the compact superzoom Pentax IQZoom (Espio) 928. I got this camera back in July, and was initally impressed by its charms. Charmed enough that I got rid of the sleeker and zoomier IQZoom 170SL. But over the course of the last half year, I realized that I didn’t care that much for this camera. I will say that the 928 was a decent machine, with a really…

A season of personal sunset/moonrise rides
A season of personal sunset/moonrise rides
Over the past several years I’ve led Sunset/Moonrise rides during the warmer months. On the night of full moon, sunset is roughly around the same time as moonrise, so I’d choose an end spot with both a good west and east view. When I lived up in Woodlawn, I usually ended up going to Broughton Beach on the Columbia River–it has excellent views, and was only five miles from my house. Now that I…
